I MET SAM!!! AGAIN!!!
Yesterday was a fever dream. I didn’t think I’d get to see him let alone talk to him but it happened! Here’s the whole story:
@suikamelon6 found some info saying the base camp for the Newsreader filming has been set up. I decided to go check it out after work since my office isn’t very far away. It was raining all day and I had no clue if Sam was even filming that day but I decided to take the chance anyway. And I’m SO glad I did!! turns out Sam was filming and I found out the actual filming location (it was a completely different place from the base camp). I made my way there.
They were mainly filming inside a venue so I couldn’t see anything, but there was going to be an outdoor scene too so I stuck around. I was there for around 15mins and then a crew member came over to tell me that Sam and Anna would be arriving soon. Then a car pulled up right in front of where i was standing on the street and Sam was inside!!!!! Thank god I was given a heads up beforehand because otherwise l would’ve had a complete meltdown if Sam in full costume just got out of a car right in front of me 😭
I said hi and Sam looked at me like he recognised me and was like “you were at the Newsreader premiere!” HE RECOGNISES ME!!!! he knows who i am!!!! This is the best thing that’s ever happened to me!!! Anyways, I asked for a photo and he said yes as long as I don’t post it until the season is out. We took some selfies and i’m short so he bent down to fit in the photo 😂😂 I’m sorry that I can’t share the pics yet because OH MY GOD HE LOOKED SO FUCKING GOOD!! He was in full costume, Dale wig and all. He was ✨glowing✨ !!!
He then filmed inside the venue and in the meantime i met up with Suika and another friend as we waited for the outdoor shoot. It was a short scene of just Sam, it was done in 4-5 takes and we saw the whole thing! He was so focused during the entire shoot, it was evident that he puts a lot of thought, effort and concentration into his acting.
Afterwards we talked to Sam some more. He’s so down to earth and easy to talk to! For someone who’s supposedly introverted he’s actually very chatty, he jokes around and makes you feel at ease. It’s like talking to a good friend! I asked him if he’s going to the Newsreader event on the Gold Coast and he said he’s not sure yet and then he was like “wait, are you going?” Gold Coast is like a 2hr flight away from Melbourne, it’s kinda far! I said “I’ll go if you go” and he was like “haha you can just see me here”. He’s so right, i’d much rather not spend all that money on flights and accommodation if I can just keep seeing him in my hometown.
Anyways ahhhh Sam is so lovely and engaging in conversation! And so humble and hardworking too! He grabbed food immediately after he stopped filming, he probably didn’t get to eat between takes. i was like “you must be exhausted” and he just shrugged and smiled. What a sweetheart!!!!!
I had such a wonderful experience, Sam was amazing and all crew members were incredibly lovely, telling us where to go and what was happening. I had the time of my life!! Forever grateful to my crazy good luck about being at the right place at the right time. Sadly I didn’t take any pics of the set, I didn’t want to get in trouble. Maybe next time they film in public (IF there is a next time!!) i will have more pics and things to share with you! 🥰

AFL
I worked out the average of every AFL team from 2012 (when the 18th team joined the competition) to the final 2023 ladder, this is based on W-D-L (final ladder based on wins) not based on who won what grand final.
My statistics for anybody who cares:
position - Team - Average Placing Last 12 Years
Geelong - 4.9
2. Sydney - 7.45
3. Richmond - 7.73
4. Port Adelaide - 8
5. Hawthorn - 8.45
6. Collingwood - 8.64
7. West Coast - 9
8. Freemantle - 10.36
9. Adelaide -10.55 (tied w/ WB)
10. Western bulldogs - 10.55 (tied w/ AC)
11. Melbourne - 11
12. Brisbane - 11.18
13. GWS - 11.27
14. ST Kilda - 11.73
15. Essendon - 11.9
16. North Melbourne - 13.27
17. Carlton - 13.82
18. Gold Coast - 16.36
These are based on statistics (I recorded the ladder from 2012 to 2023 and then worked alphabetically writing down the number the respective team came each year. Once I did that I divided that by 11 - the number of seasons played since then - and got the average.)
I'm a little nerd but I rlly wanted to see this. And now if anybody goes "Collingwood suck" I can pull this out. (<- I'm kidding about that)

@dress-and-impress i watched the trailer for ncis sydney because you love ncis and also i am nothing if not a patriot (i realised how little aussie tv i watch and plan on rectifying that)
prediction i made before watching:
this is defo gonna have a dumbass subplot about the conflict between the top dog big guns american cavalry and our true blues. because ofc the americans our saviours know so much more than silly little rural country larrikins and are much better equipped to deal with australia's problems than australia is
reactions:
I WAS RIGHT ABOUT THE SUBPLOT
why does the music make it sound like a girlie coming of age movie with a mild supernatural twist. sleepovercore and they accidentally summon a ghost but this is a light-hearted family comedy so it just ends up with silly ghost prank shenanigans and a bittersweet ending
"most venomous snake in the world" ofc we gotta have Australian Themed Crimes. couldn't use a damn knife like everyone else. had to be special and not like other girls (countries) smh. i actually laughed out loud at the snake thing
the real reason the first aussie ncis is based in sydney is because non aussies would butcher the pronunciation of any other city. "ncis: wollongong" "ncis: parramatta" "ncis: melbourne" "ncis: geelong". and then anything that isn't brissy in queensland would sound too silly to be a crime show cause like "ncis: gold coast" "ncis: TOWNSVILLE"??? like yeah i'm really on the edge of my seat rn
they should have set it in the literal MURDER CAPITAL OF AUSTRALIA. but actually ignoring murder literally nothing happens in adelaide ever. big news is OMG HEAVY TRAFFIC THE CITY IS GRIDLOCKED and then it's just like 5 cars at a red light instead of the usual 2. no one could possibly suspend their disbelief enough to accept that interesting things could happen there even in the realm of fiction
#ncis sydney#if i actually liked tiktok i would defo make an acc where the sole gimmick is slandering places in aus#ik i've slandered like everything about the show but i SWEAR it looks interesting i just show my love by being needlessly vicious#not to be mistaken for when i show my hate for something by being adequately vicious

its round 0 and footy is back in less than 4 hours and I haven't even made any predictions yet so lets do them here so that at best I've recorded my oracle abilities for the annals of history OR if I fail at least only two people will see it
Sydney Swans vs Melbourne. Look. I know Melbourne has been controversial BUT Trac and Gawn are two of my favorite players in the league and I really don't love Sydney's play style. Plus, to not base this purely on vibes you've gotta take a look at the lineup - Sydney has a few outs
Brisbane Lions vs Carlton. I'M SORRY I'M BIASED. Also I'm going to this one so of course I want Brisbane to win. Carlton also has a few major players out with injury which really sucks. That being said, our round 1 record Is Not Good. Good thing this is round 0 instead!
Gold Coast Suns vs Richmond. I'm pretty 50/50 on this one. The thing is, the Suns managed to wallop us in the second half of last season. I also want the suns to go well this season so I can go back to hating literally everything to do with the Gold Coast without feeling bad and needing to stick up for an AFL team north of the Barassi line. Also Dusty is out :((((
GWS vs Collingwood. lbr if the finals were umpired like the H&A season (I'm not saying they should be - it's a different kind of game) then GWS would have made it to the grand final. But again, this is another one that could go 50/50. I don't mind if Collingwood win, but it is funny to wind up my younger magpie-supporting brother.
#afl#brisbane lions#gws#gold coast suns#collingwood#melbourne demons#sydney swans#carlton#richmond tigers#bro i am not kidding when i say i hate everything about the gold coast. its so fake. plus the better beaches are north on the sunny coast#any other AFLblr peeps wanna put their hat in the tipping ring?

Meanwhile, headcannon combining Hanna-Barbera funtastic goodness with Wisconsin Dells
Over at the new Elm Street Stage just past downtown, who could imagine The Banana Splits and/or the Cattanooga Cats pulling off free performances of warm Wisconsin summer nights, followed by jam sessions galore overnights--and plenty of "meet-and-greet" to be had especially Downtown and at Outlets at the Dells, with much in the way of selfie opportunities?
Plenty of cheesy Wisconsin goodness to be expected as well, especially with many of your favourite Funtastics (notably the old standbys) patronising the likes of Carr Valley Cheese and Market Square Cheese and stocking up on Wisconsin's Finest when it comes to cheeses and sausages. (Oh yes, and snack crackers for to complement said cheeses.)
For good measure, there's also bound to be some attention directed at the fudge and candy shops of Wisconsin Dells, especially with Undercover Elephant enjoying his beloved Coconut Cashew Crunch--and getting some sent off to "some close friends" as well.
Though the Tommy Bartlett Show may be no more, picture a bucolic Saturday or Sunday afternoon on Artificial Lake Delton with no less than Wally Gator, Lippy the Lion and Hardy Har Har, and Touché Turtle and Dum-Dum kicking back on jet skis and just letting the wake dominate. Followed, perhaps, with a cookout over non-alcoholic beer or ale.
Recording podcasts at no less than Pizza Pub, with the odd tourist interview thrown in as well: Crazy Claws (and no less than), inviting tourist types to sit alongside him for pizza or maybe even pasta (especially considering that $1 from each spaghetti dinner Pizza Pub serves supports the music programmes at the local schools). Not exactly Amanda's Hot Tub or Desert Island Discs, but just give Crazy Claws a booth and let the conversation begin.
Unlikeliest of tourist distractions to be found, as if the presence of The Banana Splits and the Cattanooga Cats in walkabout wasn't distracting enow on The Broadway: Kwicky Koala, off on a side-street parking lot, having a food truck with blatantly Australian icons featured (among them Uluru, the Sydney Opera House and Harbour Bridge, the Twelve Apostles along the Great Ocean Road, some Melbourne trams, New Parliament House in Canberra, the Gold Coast skyline and the Aussie flag as well) selling Australian grocery staples including Arnott's biscuits and crispbreads, Bushell's and Nerada teas, Freddo Frogs, Cherry Ripe bars, Minties, Kool Mints, Jaffas, Fantales, Gravox gravy mix, ETA Barbecue Sauce, frozen Aussie meat pies and sausage rolls--and Vegemite, obviously.
Honey and Sis pulling off a season of surprise shortwave worldcasts from their motorhome-based worldcasting station parked at an isolated site beside Lake Delton, talking things up in their own unique way over warm Wisconsin summer nights. And imagine the QSL responses including some enquiries about the Wisconsin Dells region, even Wisconsin cheeses.
Oh, and how about the Hair Bear Bunch making their way "up north" for bear mating season for a mix of "meet-and-greets," at least one steak supper and getting some frozen steaks as well for grilling during their Camp Volkswagen sessions?
And plenty more where they came from ...

Toot toot! To all fans have subscribed Luke Arnold's mailing list from his official blog, check them out! There are good news are awaiting for you!
I will share the letter down below here
From Luke Arnold's letter:
A few things on the horizon…
Hello to all the beautiful people who have asked to be kept in the loop regarding my work (but have found the loop largely non-existent). I write you this brief but hopefully exciting message as I sit in an airport lounge on my way to the Gold Coast for Supanova (an Aussie convention where I’ll be signing books and photos and hanging out with other lovely creative people). Supanova will also be in Melbourne next weekend so any Melbournians out there should come along.
Though I’ve been quiet on the "mailing list" front, rest assured that I have been keeping myself busy. All last year I was shooting the new Disney+ series Nautilus which will be incredible, but I'm not allowed to say anything else about it until the time comes to unveil what we've been up to. Soon, I hope! I also just finished filming Scrublands, a 4-part crime thriller based on Chris Hammer’s best-selling novel. That will be coming to Stan in Australia, and Sundance Now in the US, with more networks surely announced soon.
I have a few writing projects that I’m forced to keep secret for a little longer, but this big news is… Fetch Phillips is coming back for another book!
It seems people are so used to trilogies that many assumed One Foot in the Fade was the end of Fetch’s story. These books were always supposed to feel more like detective stories than fantasy epics (at least to begin with) and though I never intended things to end at book 3, I did want to make sure that each instalment was satisfying on its own. I’m happy that, for some people, I succeeded to the point where they thought Fetch’s adventures were over for good. Please be rest assured that he still has a few miles to walk, a few mistakes to make, a few punches to take and more monsters, secrets, and magical rumours to uncover. I love writing Fetch and I’m grateful that Orbit are happy to continue sharing him with the world.
I’ve been rereading the books myself recently - making sure my maps and wikis are up to date, and taking note of any loose threads that have slipped my mind over the years – and I must say, I quite like them. Though I have been tough on poor Fetch. Not letting him off too easy. Not rewarding him wins he doesn't deserve or allowing him grow too quickly. But the scope of his story is really about to open up. I enjoyed keeping Fetch's world and mind contained for a while but he's kicked over too many stones and now some dark and mean things are ready to crawl out.
Okay, that’s enough blather. I’ll go put my words where they belong - in the middle of Book Four of The Fetch Phillips Archives!
I do plan to occasionally look up from the laptop and finally do some events, talks and signings this year. Some in Australia but probably a few in Europe too. I’ll let you know how that goes as I lock in dates.
Thanks for being interested. Stay tuned!

Meet Ali Strachan: The woman behind Logan's first pride
New Post has been published on https://qnews.com.au/meet-ali-strachan-the-woman-behind-logans-first-pride/
Meet Ali Strachan: The woman behind Logan's first pride
Ali Strachan is inspiring a creative and queer movement in Logan. She chatted to QNews about her work with Assorted Grains, her queer family and the city’s first pride event.
There are a lot of things that Ali Strachan is passionate about.
Art, her family, the queer community and the place she is from, Logan.
In a tribute to her drive and can-do attitude, she has managed to find a way to combine all of those into one incredible project.
Ali is the President and co-leads the Cultural Programming for Assorted Grains Inc.
Assorted Grains is a Logan-based not-for-profit working with local artists to create distinct programs and events for the community in Logan.
This year the group is putting on Logan’s first pride event Loud and Proud Logan.
Where it all began
Her passion for the arts and community started young.
“I suppose I’ve always been kind of creative kid and I came from quite a religious and conservative family and I don’t think I really fit into that now,” Ali tells me.
“I had a trip to Melbourne with my sister and having grown up in Logan my whole life, I just felt I was missing some of that culture and being creative I thought, ‘how do we make that happen?’”
Ali’s first creative outlet was an arts and culture podcast with her husband Grant, but they wanted to do something more.
After the pandemic began to subside the idea of Assorted Grains began to come to life when Ali met Jimmy Watts and they began to brainstorm how they could build the local creative sector.
‘It started at Jimmy’s kitchen table with a bunch of Post-it notes on what we wanted to achieve,” she explains.
“Logan is full of creatives, and that’s something I really learned through the work that I did throughout Covid, but there’s no infrastructure here.”
“There aren’t enough accessible venues or spaces for local creatives to perform for and engage the community in Logan. The professional creatives here go to Brisbane and the Gold Coast, they go elsewhere. And so, what we wanted to do was kind of change that culture.”
Ali and Jimmy put their respective talents and experiences in music, arts and marketing together to found Assorted Grains Inc.

Queer visibility
Supporting the LGBTQIA+ community in Logan is important and personal to Ali.
“After Covid, my eldest son, who is trans masc/non-binary, started to come out and say,’ I’m not really comfortable in my own skin, I feel like I identify as this,’ so we kind of all went on this journey together,” she explains.
“He found really amazing friends and the school was really lovely, they switched to their preferred name, and always made a great effort to support him.”
Even with the school’s support, Ali’s son did face some issues from a small group of students.
Ali explains he managed these challenges extremely well.
“He always felt comfortable in telling us what was going on, but also just enough to say to them ‘Is that all you got?’, like, somehow I’ve raised this confident kid,” she says with pride.
Through this experience and connecting to the community, Ali and Assorted Grains co-founder Jimmy wanted to help increase the visibility of the queer community, and for both their families.
“We kind of embed ourselves into communities and really learn what they need and then build on that,” Ali explains.
“I guess that’s sort of where Loud and Proud has come from because I’m a bisexual woman, and Jimmy is a gender non-binary man / man. So given my family story and the fact that Jimmy now has a daughter he’s raising, we wanted to make sure that there was a culture of visible acceptance here that didn’t exist before. Because all of the great stuff that happens in Logan has been done behind closed doors.”

Logan’s first pride
Ali and the Assorted Grains team are behind Logan’s first-ever pride event: Loud and Proud Logan.
It promises to be a vibrant, multi-arts festival at the Kingston Butter Factory on Saturday 12 October.
Creating the event with the community involved has been a learning experience for Ali.
“It’s actually been kind of a journey to realising how important it is for people because having invited the community to come in and be a part of how we shape this event, we’ve heard so many stories from people,” she explains.
“Stories about growing up as a queer person in Logan and that it was not a safe space for the longest time. We should be able to feel comfortable in our own community, to be ourselves and I think this is what Loud and Proud does.”
However, with Logan’s diverse population, Ali is also acutely aware that being “Loud and Proud’ may not be for everyone… yet.
“One thing that we’re really conscious of is in the experiences that we’re representing, all experiences, CALD communities and refugees and asylum seekers who have trauma around being LGBT, we just want to make sure that there’s a space for them.”
“They don’t necessarily have to come out and be loud and proud about who they are, because that can potentially be very challenging, but our hope is that they can still find community, and that they can still feel like there is a safe space for them at Loud and Proud.”
Community call to arms
Ali is bringing new life to Logan’s art, culture and queer life despite the many challenges it poses.
The countless hours, the shoestring budgets and finding funding grants are just some of the obstacles Ali and Assorted Grains have to overcome.
However, her immense passion is palpable when she speaks about her work and family.
She is also uncomfortable taking the credit and insists on acknowledging everyone involved.
“I couldn’t do any of this work alone,” she continues to explain.
Before taking up any more of her much-needed time, I ask her to give a final message to the community ahead of Loud and Proud.
“Just come and support the community, come and have a great time and get involved. Don’t be afraid to come along, even if you feel like you’re a bit afraid to connect, or you’re a bit afraid to put yourself out there!”
“Come and experience the love and joy our community has to offer.”
