❝ i know it’s just     ❞ a million thoughts run through her brain, all of the too harsh to say, but there is so much anger inside her, welling up, she’s terrified to speak. she swallows, trying to push down the anger. doesn’t nikki understand that it’s not her job to protect her mother? she can’t tamper down on her temper much and the words come spilling out, harsh but hopefully less harsh sounding then they sound in her head, ❝ you could’ve gotten injured. you could’ve died. nikki, it’s my job to protect you, if you were to get injured or died because you were protecting me, i’ve failed in my job as your parent.  ❞ she pauses again, looking down. ❝ i could’ve lost you sweetie, i don’t think i can deal if i do. ❞

53. Our muses in a zombie apocalypse.

her daughter was her first priority when the news broke     when people started coming back from the dead     nothing else. her husband could handle himself, that she was sure of and he knew where to meet them. but nikki was her first and main priority. with a safe house far from people, hidden away in an area that was dangerous for conscious and alive humans to traverse, she had grabbed her daughter from the bustling city and started forth, hopeful. but then again, bartons never had much luck and so their car had broken down miles from where they were supposed to be at in an area that was far to dangerous to be traversing on foot. though, if she was honest, at least they weren’t in georgia, she had heard that it went to shit there.

           ❝ futz, nikki, hide! ❞ she whispered loudly, before running behind a tree, bow held in her hand, the soft sounds of moaning and groaning growing from the left of them. she had hoped her daughter had climbed a tree or something; anything but what she did.
