Do you own a supermarket business in New Zealand and want to manage it efficiently? If yes, then investing in a POS system is one of the best things you can do. These days, most businesses are connecting with point-of-sale systems which are specially designed for efficient business management. These systems are apt for various business segments that deal directly with customers. These softwares are designed with a varied range of features and functionalities to elevate businesses from ordinary to extraordinary level. These systems are perfectly suitable if you are running:
Retail clothing store
Fruit and vegetable supermarket
Liquor shop
Retail chain of consumer products
Point-of-sale systems are state-of-the-art technologies to make the day-to-day business processes streamlined. They can be used for a single retail store or for a chain of supermarkets. So, whether you are looking to upgrade your business or want a system to attain the technological advantages of these systems, you can search for POS NZ. These systems are also referred to as EFTPOS in New Zealand. They are seamlessly configured with the facility of electronic funds transfer at the point of sale. It refers to the machine which can accept debit and credit card payments. Therefore, the systems are focused on processing cashless payments paid by buyers and accepted by sellers. If you own a retail supermarket, your business would depend significantly on regular customers. They will know your place as the most convenient business to find household goods easily. As an owner or manager, you will be adhered to use pen and paper to make bills and for maintaining records for purchases. Thus, it would take a sheer amount of your time and effort to make the offline payment processing and recording on board.
The working of POS systems is centrally focused on making your business process online. It works to take care of the billing of your supermarket business so that you can focus on customer service. What’s more, by saving of more energy and time, you can focus more on expanding and improving your business.
Know the importance of a point-of-sale system
A supermarket eftpos will be in the charge of accepting payments from your customers online. They can pay just by swiping their debit/credit cards in the machine. It enables you to input the prices for every item into the machine. Though, it may seem a time-consuming process in the initial phase. Once the prices for products are stored in the machine, it makes the billing process faster. As a supplier of products, you can easily import the price list of various products into the Point-of-sale system. Consequently, it will eliminate the process of entering the prices for products manually. The POS NZ will also have functioned with a computerized monitor and barcode scanner. Thus, the price of the product can be entered automatically into the system. This makes the billing process faster and more efficient and buyers have to wait for less to pay for the stuff they have bought.
In addition to this, the point-of-sale system can record the details for each product in the shopper docket. This means that the final price will be computed after discount deduction and special offers to tally with the total. Moreover, the price for each item going through the scanner will be displayed to the customers through the customer-facing screen. The software completes the payment processing automatically which turns to the satisfaction of your buyers. Your staff also don’t have to worry about the calculation of prices for multiple items bought by customers. The system will improve their efficiency to make the tedious process complete smoothly in a few minutes.
Use supermarket eftpos for back-office operations
Supermarkets not only deal with customers for selling products and making payment clearances. But these businesses often deal with back-office operations which are challenging to execute. It is the most laborious task for supermarket managers and owners to keep track of stock, invoicing, maintaining records of suppliers, and re-ordering processes. Surprisingly, a POS system can also deal with these tasks online to make the back office work managed and streamlined. The point-of-sale system will subtract each product from the stock which is going through the online payment system. Thus, the record or stock of products will be automatically tallied and managed. Therefore, with a few clicks of the mouse, the stock of products in the supermarket can be viewed. You can check the stock in hand and can re-order it as needed.
Apart from this, the advanced software of POS NZ can make the re-ordering process automatic. Once the stock has decreased from the set limits, the machine will automatically intimate the supplier with automated mail to send the stock. This functionality of EFTPOS can be used even if you have multiple locations of business.
How to set up the point-of-sale system?
As you can see that enabling a POS system in your supermarket business can transform business operations. Therefore, you should not compromise the quality and efficiency of your business. It is vital to consult with experts who deal with a wide range of point-of-sale systems. They can bring the solution to your table as per specific business types, needs, and goals.
Once you have mentioned your needs for the online payment system, it will be configured with your merchant account. Thus, the payment processed will be directly credited to your account. So, it will save a large amount of your time and let you focus on core business aspects. The team of experts will establish a countertop or portable POS NZ machine as per your convenience. So, it will boost up your business efficiency and also aid facility for your customers.

Working life in Nz part 8.1 “I’m back! Cherries girl!”
I have applied as a cherries picker position 4-5 months before cherry season start. There were 3 cherry farms acceptances me back. I got a picker position at Cherry land, Blenheim and Suncrest , Cromwell and got a grader position at Central pac , Cromwell .
I postponed to work for Cherry land and Suncrest because I didn’t want to leave Ginny, my super boss even I was waiting this job for a year. However, Data collector job had done after cherry season already started for a week and Cherry land can’t wait me anymore. Thus, I had only Suncrest which grant to reschedule and let me start the end of December. Moreover, Central pac also sent email and asked me to start at mid of December …Lucky me!.I didn’t have to wait so long for making money.
》》Starting as a cherries grader《《 I drove from Blenheim to Cromwell directly. Central pac paid 3 nzd per bucket for grading so that mean I have to do more than 45 buckets, then I will get more than a minimum rate. Anyway, the good point of this farm is we can rent space for a tent / car very cheap price. The pack house is also located in the farm as I can sleep longer and go to work with in 5 mins. Furthermore, all workers stayed here. So, we are so close … every day play pool- pay card together, enjoy eating, sharing laugh, hiking and swim in the lake. I was so joyful and happy BUT talking about JOB… It is shit. Freaking cold in pack house. We put overcoat in summer and use eyes to looking for spoil and defect on cherries many hours. I were more tired than climbing the ladder and picking cherries. I NEED THE SUN!. Even thought I was the one of top 5 in pack house but I can do only 30 buckets per day. I decided to quit this job after a week and followed my second plan “Picking cherries in Suncrest “
Tumblr media
.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
》》 Starting as a cherries picker(again)《《 I moved to stay in the hostel of Suncrest . There are 16 persons in one room. It is very clean and nice facility here. From a hostel to an orchard is only 15 mins by walk and there is a transportation to pick up – drop off from campsite but It is too bored for me. The hostel rule is No party – No alcohol – No outsider – No and No …We’re under control by Hostel manager. Well, I feel like I am in the international boarding school.
Nevertheless, the working day is certainly here. There is a work every day. Sometimes I worked 10 days non-stop. They paid 5-7 nzd per bucket but mostly it will be 5-5.5 nzd. Their system is different with Omahuri orchard that I had worked last year. Every pickers will get own barcode sticker. We must to put this sticker on the bucket and walk to scanning point. There is a record book which show how many bucket we made per day so, we can check it next day. Sometimes my record is incorrect but I can’t object to their record because they said they did double checked before put in the car and enter to the pack house. Their system is acceptance!
In addition to their working system , one picker take care one cherry tree. If a picker is finish first tree, they have to carry the ladder and walk pass many pickers to another trees which is no one (by manager’s order). We were losing time to find a scanner and carried the ladder all over the orchard. Example. We are picking at block1 after finishes block 1 we have to move to block 9 and then back to block2 again. Most of the time is finding block and carry 3.5 m ladder. (This is excluded time when we get lost in the orchard) . Moreover, This orchard won’t allow to wear gloves and also work in breaking time.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Don’t pick too much leafs! Because Heap of spurs on these leafs and the supervisor will call you climb down the ladder to see theses leafs on the ground, even though you are on the top of the ladder and they might let you go home suddenly if they saw again. Sometimes a supervisor will let you re-pick the last cherry tree again if you left cherries on the tree as well.
I worked here 3 weeks until I saw a job announcement that said Cherry crop is looking for pickers. I heard some people gossip about this orchard is really bad and uncertain… They said there is no work every day and always let people go home or lay off workers .. Anyway, I’m a kind of curiosity person. Finally I applied this job and I got called and they let me start a job next day….

REC*CLE IT
Tumblr media
Rec*cle is an app which will help anyone from NZ, especially younger people, to understand and guide them how to recycle properly. Recycling can be tricky and time consuming if you don’t know what you’re doing. It is also very hard to distinguish where to throw away certain materials as not all recyclable materials can be thrown in the same place, another part of Recycling is that sometimes you have to deconstruct items to recycle them properly. From the survey we did we found that a lot of New Zealanders agree that recycling can be confusing and they would use our app to help with that process. Our app aims to help ease this confusing process by using a barcode scanner to identify the product and advise the consumer on the correct way to recycle. Additionally we have included a section where the app will tell you simple and creative ways to reuse that product. The app will also have a special feature, which will encourage people to recycle thanks to the rewards program. The more the user recycles and does it properly, the more rewards will be earned.
Our main purpose for this project is to help people understand how to properly recycle and to keep our planet green and free from trash. From our experience we have realized that there are many hidden rules regarding recycling that not many people know about such as having to take the lid of the coke bottle as it is a different plastic than the bottle itself, or that you can't recycle a pizza box with grease stains. Overall we hope this will make the job a lot easier for people that work at the collection points as they will receive less no recyclable items or items that have not been properly recycled coming through. This hopefully will in turn reduce the amount of waste and rubbish New Zealand puts out and decrease the costs of transporting and housing this rubbish.
The aim of this app is to educate the public on an issue that some people may not be properly educated on. We are motivated and determined to help people successfully recycle as well as encouraging people to reuse their recyclable materials.
Our project is to create a tool to educate and guide New Zealanders' to recycle effectively and correctly; something that we believe should be common knowledge amongst us Kiwis'.
We identified the demographics and users that we would cater for. Whilst designing our app to be inclusive to all public in New Zealand, the specific demographics that we will prioritize are New Zealand’s youth and Millennials, aged between 15 and 40 years. We decided this based on research that indicates this age range is the least likely to recycle.
Upon doing research on how New Zealand recycles we discovered that different councils have contrasting views on how to recycle in their regions. Previously, our waste was sent to China and Malaysia, adding to landfill there instead of in New Zealand. In early 2018, China decided to stop taking other nation’s recycling due to concerns regarding their own environment, this included New Zealand's recycling. In response the New Zealand government proposed a plan to ‘recharge recycling’, including a campaign to educate New Zealanders’ on recycling correctly. From what we’ve seen, we feel as though this promise to educate the public has been forgotten and left unfulfilled, and we are going to do something about it. Our group decided starting with Auckland would be best, since we are already accustomed to the protocol, branching out nationwide in the future. We began to research different countries’ methods of recycling, looking at countries with the best rates of recycling globally, such as: Germany, Singapore, Austria, Taiwan and South Korea.
To enhance our knowledge and understanding on how people feel about recycling, we created a survey and shared it across social media and our classmates. The information shown was that the majority of people believe they have a decent understanding of recycling but think it is often confusing and time consuming. Another piece of information we found was that few people considered reusing the product instead of recycling/binning it. This gave us the idea to add fun and simple ways to reuse products/materials, in addition to how to properly recycle the item. Through this survey we established that people would like an app that provides a fast and easy guide to recycling. We next considered apps we have used in the past as inspiration for the layout and design for our app, such as the NZ COVID Tracer app. A lot of the decisions that we had made regarding our app were based on feedback we received from this survey.
Before this project, I have been very involved in a zero waste lifestyle. With this preexisting experience, we had insight into how difficult it is to conform to this lifestyle. As a team, we decided that the movement we wished to induce would have to come slowly, teaching the public how to recycle one item at a time. We designed our app as simple as possible, knowing how tedious and overwhelming recycling can be. The basic structure of our app is for a user to scan the barcode of an item and have the app tell them the correct method to dispose of it, additionally providing information on ways to reuse the item instead. As different regions have different recycling plants and subsequent regulations, the implementation of a location feature was necessary to provide information unique to the region.
To actualize our idea, we knew focusing on the research and concept of our project was critical. Ensuring that each group member is confident regarding their knowledge at the basis of our project, as well as having the same view and direction for the project. To plan our steps ahead, we researched the shortcomings and advantages of other countries' processes and systems in regards to effective recycling, comparing them to New Zealand’s. We then identified what features we would have available in our app, using pre-existing apps such as: MyFitnessPal, NZ COVID Tracer, and Gaspy, as references. Developing the app, we created different potential layouts, using both digital and physical methods to prototype. Integrating features to scan barcodes, select their location, as well as a reward system to encourage regular use of the app. Whilst we have not completed a functioning prototype for our product, we are confident in our ability to apply the research we have conducted along with what we have produced, to complete our project if we pursue it further.

Is this what future travel looks like? Face scanners and the end of check-in
Check-in as we know it could become a thing of the past at Kiwi airports, according to an aviation expert.
Check-in changes at Air New Zealand which removed the straight-to-gate option for domestic travellers this week led to a handful of furious customers missing their flights.
But aviation expert Irene King told Stuff the move was likely just the start of what’s to come in the future as technology changes – and we could see traditional check in counters dropped altogether.
“I think it’s a prompt to get everyone to check-in electronically… rather than at the counter area,” said King of Air New Zealand’s move. “I think they’re trying to push them to pre-check-in because that obviously speeds up the boarding processes.”
READ MORE: * Irate passengers caught out by Air New Zealand check-in change * Straight to the gate no more: Air New Zealand changes domestic check-in process * Air New Zealand reduces domestic capacity by 2 per cent, reviews fares * Biometric boarding on a JetBlue flight raises privacy questions
BRITISH AIRWAYS
British Airways’ purely biometric boarding system which it first trialed in January 2018.
Air New Zealand discontinued its straight-to-the-gate check-in process on July 1.
It had previously allowed domestic travellers without a bag to go directly to the boarding gate and check-in there by scanning the e-ticket barcode on their phone as they board (if they’ve not already checked in online or via the mobile app).
Now, customers will have to check in online, via the airline’s app, or in person at a counter, at least 30 minutes before they fly.
The move was a “generational thing” as more people become comfortable using smart phones to check-in and travel, King said.
But as technology advances, King said there will likely be some more “pretty significant changes” at our borders.
She predicts that current check-in processes will eventually be abandoned as more advanced biometric technology is able to be used in airports.
123RF
Biometric scanning at airports is the way of the future. International tests are already being carried out. (File photo)
Biometric technology, such as face or hand print recognition, is already in use in international terminals which scan the passenger’s face and passport photo.
“In 5 or 10 years time, I don’t think there will be any of that back-end process. You’ll just drop your bag at the gate… and you will be biometrically scanned.”
The technology is currently being trialled in the US and King says once it’s up to speed, “you’ll see it move round the globe really quickly”.
“What it’s doing is reducing airline operating costs by not having so many employees, and secondly by not having the large areas in the terminal that they may presently have to have.
“I’m confident that things will really ramp up once they are comfortable with the technology. You may not actually ever see an airline employee until you’re on board the aircraft,” she said.

Will the standard check-in processes be abandoned once face recognition technology is good enough. One Kiwi aviation expert thinks so. (File photo)
IS STRAIGHT TO THE GATE STILL AN OPTION?
Air New Zealand said it removed the straight-to-gate option because only 0.07 per cent of customers used it. Its removal also would help make sure services departed on time, it said.
“Accepting customers in this way has meant our teams haven’t always been able to complete all necessary final pre-departure procedures on time.
“Very few customers are using this tool, and its removal will mean we can deliver better on-time departure performance for all our customers,” a spokeswoman said.
STUFF
From July 1, Air New Zealand has changed the check-in process on domestic flights.
An Air NZ gate agent at Whangarei Airport told Stuff that there would be some leniency for customers in the coming weeks.
“For the next three weeks we’ll be showing a bit of lenience, especially if your documents have 20 minutes still listed, but from then on 30 minutes will be enforced if you’re travelling with baggage. If you arrive late and don’t have a flexible ticket, there will likely be charges.”
A spokesman for Jetstar told Stuff domestic passengers who had checked in online or via its app and had no bags to check-in at the counter, could go straight to the gate.
There were also no upcoming changes to its check-in processes, he said.

WHAT ARE THE CURRENT CHECK-IN AND WAIT TIMES?
For passengers travelling domestically with Air New Zealand, final check-in is no later than 30 minutes prior to departure. Online check-in is available from 24 hours prior to departure via the app or website.
International wait times vary. Final check-in information for these flights is available on each passenger’s e-ticket, on the app, or in the information provided by a travel agent.
The airline spokeswoman said the wait time recommended was to allow for customers to process through immigration and security.
Online check-in is not available for flights departing Niue so passengers need to check in at the airport. Check-in and bag drop for flights departing Niue close 120 minutes prior to departure.
For Jetstar’s domestic flights, online check-in opens 28 days before the flight is scheduled to depart, and closes 1 hour before the scheduled departure time.
Ross Giblin
Jetstar says there are no upcoming changes to its check-in processes. But will that stance change with the technology? (File photo)
Passengers are encouraged to arrive early for flights and to consider things like traffic congestion on the way to the airport or security queues at the airport when planning their journey.
Passengers are expected to be at the boarding gate 25 minutes before departure for domestic flights, and 40 minutes beforehand for international flights.
A spokesman for Qantas said passengers who check-in online and have a boarding pass on their phone, can go through security and go straight to the gate.
Qantas final check-in times vary from 60-30 minutes, depending on domestic, international or codeshared flights.
The spokesman said it was important passengers remembered to allow enough time to check-in and get through security, particularly during peak holiday times.

Tech high achiever flies under the radar
Steven Wild, founder of Wild Software
Wild Software is 30 years old and has clients in 16 countries despite rarely marketing its products and services. The secret to its success? Great software and lots of happy customers keen to refer them.
When Steven Wild began to tinker with computer programming back in the mid 1980s, he never imagined it would be the start of one of New Zealand’s oldest business software development companies.
His firm, Wild Software, is about to celebrate 30 years in business, and has come a long way since Wild, then a theological student in Auckland, taught himself to programme. Today the firm’s clients including several leading New Zealand companies such as Pacific Flight Simulators, Meridian Energy and ThermaTech, with its Chreos business management software systems used in 16 countries.
Director of ThermaTech, George Kear, has used Chreos for all the companies he has owned over the last 25 years.
“Each time I get involved with a new venture I immediately talk to the team at Chreos. Their system has proven diverse enough to tackle many applications and has continued to evolve as new technology becomes available.”
The company’s first international sale was into Australia over 10 years ago, with its global fan base growing steadily.
Chreos is popular with specialty bookstores such as CLC International in the UK which uses the systems to manage its warehouse and a couple of websites, and is currently rolling it out to their 20 bookstores.
The firm’s latest international client is an ex-pat Brit running a high level tourist venture on the Mediterranean coast in Spain.
Wild says he has rarely advertised and there has only been a couple of stories written about the firm in all those years.
“Our business has simply grown through word of mouth.”
It seems incredible that this small Christchurch firm with a global reach has managed to slip under the radar for so long despite its many successes.
The unassuming Wild says the company is far better at raving about its products from a features and functionality perspective than promoting itself.
“We are technically a nerdy company that thrives on partnering with clients to provide solutions that will enhance and improve their business operations.”
The genesis of Wild Software dates back to 1987 when Wild, then a theological student in Auckland, needed to pick up some extra work to feed his family.
“Bayley’s Real Estate asked me to write a trust account software package. I knew a little bit about computers but had never been taught programming. I took the job on because it sounded easier than washing dishes.”
He borrowed some hardware, gave Bayley’s a fixed price and spent time teaching himself to do it. It was such a success that this contract led to him developing a property management system for Bayley’s, which saw him through the rest of his student days.

In 1990, Wild moved to Christchurch to become a pastor and continued programming work on the side, launching the first version of Chreos, a basic debtors package that took him three sleepless days to write.
He lectured and later became Head of Computing at Christchurch Polytechnic (now Ara) while employing staff to run Chreos, but left in 1999 to manage the business full time.
These days, he and five employees run the office in Leslie Hills Drive, Riccarton, where they provide 24 hour backup and support.
Wild says clients choose the firm’s software and business management tools because of their functionality, benefits, and the relationship they are able to build with the Chreos team.
“Our clients know we will work with them to overcome hurdles and maximise their business potential while offering around the clock support.”
Chreos is particularly well suited to retailers and wholesalers given its flexibility to handle inventory, orders and customers either online, or in brick-and-mortar stores.
“We can keep track of stock, customers and financials. We also keep their integrated websites up to date with the latest offerings and stock levels, and pull down orders straight to their despatch departments.”
The Chreos team has also introduced a range of mobile apps that work on cell phones attached to barcode scanners for stock-takes and various warehouse activities. Other apps are in design.
“The rate of change in the technology sector is amazing and in order to keep ahead of it we need to grow the company and attract some additional capability to the team. Along with celebrating our 30 year milestone, we’ve decided we had better start talking about what we do.”
