I don't want to overstep with your story, but if you're still free for character suggestions, something that's been going through my head is one of Kyukis human friends bringing a new friend of theirs along to a meet-up and Kyuki immediatly recognizes said new friend as a banshee, I assume considering fea are bigger travelers in your lore they'd be familiar with what they get up to
It's tense because the banshee just keeps sticking around and it's not like he could ever confront them about it because the human friend is still there, but having a harbinger of death lurking around your friend doesn't make you feel particulary secure
Less serious, I don't know if Kyuki is a jealous person, but do you think there'd be a slight undercurrent of "Hands off, that was my friend first" to it as well?
I absolutely encourage other people to make characters or propose myths they want to see because I highly doubt I’ll ever make this into a proper story.
I still need to answer Tavi’s ask about the fae, but considering how widespread and intelligent fae tend to be, I think they’d spread all over the world.
I feel like fae and trickster demons like Kitsune would generally be wary of each other since they kind of operate on the same wavelength. Buuut if they’re a friend of Kyuki they give him food and that’s a good reason to stick around.
Really both Banshees and Kitsune can be seen as good and bad omens. Banshees have been known to sing out of love, kind of existing to make sure their families are safe.
There would be a lot of indecision until Kyuki could figure out their deal.
I do think Kyuki’s response would vary depending on how close they are with the person. They would only really show possessiveness if they’re really close to someone.

I swear, some of these "goth is whatever you want it to be" people act like telling them they're not goth means the Federal Bureau of Goths is going to break down their door and confiscate all their black clothes.
Loves, no one is gatekeeping what you wear. No one is even gatekeeping goth events! You can still go to goth clubs as a non-goth--you just may not enjoy it as much if you don't like the music. All we ask is that you not use the label, which is shorthand for "fan of goth music," to describe yourself if you are not, in fact, a fan of goth music.
We love seeing your cool outfits and gorgeous makeup and flawlessly-dyed hair, and we love sharing aspects of our subculture! But the second you try to redefine it and take away the ONE requirement, we get protective. Darkly-inclined is a wonderful label--use it! Use alternative! Don't use goth, emo, punk, or grunge if you aren't fans of the corresponding music genres. Can you imagine if I, who's never listened to K-pop, only heard of two K-pop bands, and couldn't name a single member of BTS called myself a K-pop stan? (Punk is probably the only one here that's a little more flexible, since it's also rooted in a political movement and protesting, but it still found its birthplace in the music--music which then led to post-punk and goth rock, might I add).
Subcultures have to have a barrier of entry to be a subculture. There has to be a way to set apart the people who are in it and those who aren't. Saying someone isn't goth is not an insult! We don't look down upon you. We get annoyed with poseurs, but not someone who's just into the fashion and makeup aspect and doesn't try to redefine what a goth is. I guarantee there's probably a spooky, black-clad non-goth that I've followed a makeup or DIY tutorial from, and I think that's wonderful. I love that we have this shared interest, even if we have different taste in music.
We're not trying to be mean when we enforce the one rule to be a goth (there is a second unspoken rule, to not be a bigot, but that's a rule that goes without saying for most groups--please know that when you see a so-called "goth" spewing racist bullshit or other kinds of hatred, the rest of us are NOT in agreement with them and want them evicted from our subculture). We love welcoming new people in, and we love seeing the goth scene thriving. It's just that our subculture means a lot to us, and although fashion is a big part of it, it has always truly been about the music. The music came first (watch old videos of 80's goth clubs--hardly anyone there looks recognizable as a goth today!), and it's the backbone of goth. When you call yourself goth, you're telling fellow goths "we like the same kinds of music." I want to get music recommendations from you, dang it, and share some of mine! I've had so many people insult the music I like and tell me my taste is shit, so it's nice to find someone who likes the same sounds and connects with the same lyrics, you know? Music is the strong glue that holds us together and unites us all. It brought us together in the 80's and has kept us together up until now. So when you try to take that away, to mold the goth label into whatever it takes to fit you because you didn't fit it, that's when we've got a problem.
And if you're into the fashion but don't like goth music now, do not despair, because that doesn't mean you'll never be a goth! Give it a listen. Check out different subgenres and bands. You might like what you hear. Synth and EBM were what bridged the gap for me. I started off being super into the fashion, but would be hard-pressed to name a goth band other than Bauhaus or Siouxsie and the Banshees. I was listening to Halloween Vocaloid songs and Lady Gaga, for the most part. I tried a few goth rock songs and didn't like them. And then I found The Birthday Massacre, and suddenly, those goth rock songs didn't sound so bad anymore. They sounded beautiful, atmospheric, ethereal, melancholy in a way you can still dance to. It wasn't long before I was devouring every subgenre of goth music I could get my hands on and making an ever-growing list of bands to check out and songs I liked. I was digging goth music like a grave, and all it took was a band that fit somewhere in the middle of the upbeat, techno dance-worthy music I was used to, the spooky lyrics I liked, and a gothy sound that got me craving more. Sometimes that's all it takes. Goth music is noticeably different from other genres, and hearing the unfamiliar sometimes results in dislike. It's an acquired taste for some, kind of like coffee, but once you get into it, you'll wonder how you even hated it at all in the first place.
Goth is my home, my family, and although I welcome all who show an interest, there's a difference between someone who actually wants to get involved in the subculture and those who wear a mask so they can pretend to be because they like the sound of the label, the allure, how cool it makes them feel, and insist they must be goth and all who tell them otherwise are just elitists. We call those people "poseurs," friend--don't be like them. If goth music just isn't for you, but you love the fashion, that's cool. Just don't call yourself "goth" if you're not a fan of goth music, since that's what the word means in the first place.
#so this unexpectedly turned into a rant#but I've seen some nonsense recently and it's annoying so--#goth#gothgoth#goth subculture#goth music#goth rant

criminal minds characters + music tastes because you all are boring
i just am clawing at the walls if i have to read about taylor swift songs one more time
jason gideon: i think the show got this one right. big band/crooner music. a bit jazzy now and then. maybe a touch of folk if he’s in the mood but nothing crazy hippie-like. i could see gideon learning the guitar and playing it up at his cabin.
derek morgan: i think morgan has the most diverse music taste of the bau and he’s constantly listening to music so that makes sense. 90s r&b is his SWEET spot, and rap from that era is a close second. but he’s listened to a ton of different stuff: blue-eyed soul, modern hip-hop, classic rock/hair metal when he’s breaking shit in his houses, even alternative rock and poooooossibly some nu-metal influences
aaron hotchner: another one i think the show got right. dad rock to the extreme. sadly probably does actually listen to the beatles. had a ramones/sex pistols/britpunk phase when he was younger but would never admit it. also a fan of older country rock like waylon jennings on occasion, especially in the car
emily prentiss: definitely a big punk kid, even beyond the picture we were shown. prefers the cure to the smiths but siouxsie and the banshees to them both. nowadays listens to a lot of female singer/songwriters and girl bands like the indigo girls, the bangles, the go-gos, etc. but still loves the music of her youth.
penelope garcia: anything bright and loud. it doesn’t necessarily have to be happy; i know that we joke about emily being emo but penny is far more likely by timing to have actually had an emo period. i think she definitely listened to evanescence sometimes and had a bit of a hard rock phase as the black queen. now she leans hard into 80s music and glam rock; loves kate bush, bowie, mr mister, and can get down with emily’s girl bands as well
spencer reid: again, show was pretty accurate, but i think he’d also have a wide music taste because he’d listen to whatever people suggested (like derek telling him to listen to nas). if left to his own devices he’ll just listen to classical and opera though. he’ll talk you through his dream cast of whatever opera you ask
jennifer jareau: definitely had a nu-metal phase where she listened to a ton of like linkin park, breaking benjamin or whatever when she was in college (“i rock” as stated in unknown subject). canonically listened to rage against the machine. for sure leans more towards soft alternative/indie now but plays music from high school when she’s alone and has been known to scream along to a female country kill your husband song when drunk.
tara lewis: we know she listens to classic rock and like, when she says classic rock, it’s everything she can get her hands on and about as broad as it gets under the umbrella, folksy to funk and everything in between — stones to chicago, heart to the commodores, simon & garfunkel to hall & oates.
alex blake: rap. like, the tightest flow, most wordy rap possible. either that or classical instrumental; there’s like no in between, except she’ll also cede to folky 70s stuff (bonus points if it tells a story).
kate callahan: 90s girl pop is the BESTTTT to her. also enjoys a lot of no doubt, avril lavigne, all that good stuff. 70s music (disco mostly), the kind she was raised with, is what she puts on cleaning the house.
luke alvez: i feel like luke is the most into classic metal and rock and roll out of everyone. there’s nothing like a car ride with music blaring and roxy hanging out the window while he sings along. he does listen to some big band music while cooking, though, and his singing voice is way better than he’d ever let on. works out to modern rap playlists on spotify
matt simmons: in my mind matt probably has the “coolest” music taste because he listens to a lot of current alt rock and indie rock. i think matt and kristy would probably enjoy going to concerts together. sometimes they like to embarrass their kids by singing pop songs from the early 90s at the top of their lungs.

Hiya ^__^! I was in the middle of writing a thirst/emo ask when I saw your "medias/entertainment the LIs would be interested in." post, and I have some HCs & thoughts about Robin, Kylar & Eden:
Robin- They like MMO games, but since they financially can't afford subscription games, they stick to free MMOs like Neverwinter, Guild Wars 2, Old School Runescape (even though you have to pay to access the game's best content, lol, but w/e), etc. They enjoy listening to light-hearted podcasts where participants are chatting about the mundane. On youtube, they mostly follow cooking channels to find simple, affordable recipes to try out & share w/ PC. When it comes to social media, they're more of a lucker than an active user. I also kinda see them having a hard time grasping internet culture/memes. Uses let's-play videos as background noise when they're studying.
Kylar- they like movies such as Eyes Without a Face, Don't Look Now, Rosemary's Baby, V/H/S anthology, From Beyond, etc. Watches true-crimes docs & series. When it comes to video games, they're very big on any game that requires a shit-ton of reading, so their fav genres are mostly VNs, dating sims & text-based games. Sometimes they like to mess around w/ dungeon crawlers & FPS games. They listen to popular gothic rock bands like The Cure, Joy Division, Bauhaus, Siouxsie and the Banshees, etc. Def a veteran mod in some obscure anime forum. Their internet persona is diametrically opposite to their IRL personality. Has a blog where they journal their daily life & dump their writing & drawings. Literally pirates anything they could get their hand on. Occasionally surfs & posts in /lit/, /adv/, /x/, /ic/, and /r9k/.
Eden- If they ever used the internet, it's just to pirate books, read news & op-ed articles; they wouldn't care about anything else. Has a great collection of books that centres around political & economic theories. I don't think they have a specific favourite music artist, but when they were young, they might have listened to Alice in Chains, Rage Against the Machine, The Smashing Pumpkins, System of a Down, Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds, etc. Because of K*rk*t, now I'm legally obligated to assign any remotely grumpy character as a rom-com enjoyer whether it fits or not :v, so yeah, Eden's guilty pleasure is shitty rom-com movies, w/ The Notebook being one of their favorites. (But they're def not ashamed of reading & enjoying romance novels.)
I agree with a lot of this, anon.
Robin falls for Joe mama-style set ups everytime. Probably has played every Final Fantasy and has a few ideas for a TTRPG character they want to play as but never found a group to play with. Also, when it comes to YouTube Robin strikes me as someone who would have enjoyed Jenna Marbles (I miss her so bad).
Kylar seems like the type of person to have one of those Yandere blogs you see. Updates it with every look you give them, posts pictures of their shrine in their room (with you censored, they don't want anyone getting any ideas) and talks about how they can't wait for your future together. I also think Kylar is emo as hell and may have been a scene kid at one point - yes even listening to absolute trash like Simon Curtis. Which brings up a theory of mine - Kylar dyes their hair black. It's naturally something else. They could also enjoy films like The Boy, and openly roots for Brahms.
Eden strikes me as someone potentially leaning anarchist politically. Probably has Peter Kropotkin and such in their book stack. But also could lean into conspiracy theories a bit too much. It may just be because of the town, but Eden has a line where they say they'll never go to the hospital - if they're that injured then they'll die. And I don't blame them, knowing Harper, but it does make me think Eden could be an illuminati/lizard person believer. If Eden ever had electricity put in at the cabin I would bet they'd like How I Met Your Mother and other rom-com shows. Doesn't even flinch when you watch Bambi together and it reaches that scene, which is a little concerning.

What are some of your favorite musicians/bands?
Nice, this is the first real anon question I’ve gotten that wasn’t some weird twitter wannabe in like a year and a half so I’m gonna be really extra in answering it.
Music was a really important part of my growing up, I played the piano for many years, but I never really figured out how to talk about it in technical terms, only emotional ones. I can only say I like a song for how it feels to me and what kind of visuals I get in my head while listening to it, but really nothing about the use of particular musical elements. I’d say most of my favourite music is the stuff that I think of as pretty timeless and which has stuck with me for whatever reason. R&B and women in hip-hop were my first musical interests, so I made a lot of tapes of Eve, Missy Elliott, Aaliyah, Erykah Badu, Sade, when their songs came on the radio and I listen to all of it still (not on tapes obvi).
When I got a little older and I spent a lot of time watching MuchMusic (RIP) I started gravitating towards punk, metal, some emo stuff, and when we got the Internet a couple of years later I would spend all my time on forums trying to find new music. (Fun fact: the first song I ever downloaded on Limewire was Every Time I Die “I Been Gone a Long Time”.) The stuff like Crass, Crisis, Misfits/Danzig, Subhumans, it stayed with me for a while but I probably haven’t listened to most of it in at least 4-5 years. Some of it stayed, though, particularly I still get a lot out of listening to many Converge albums, even if I haven’t followed them much since All We Love We Leave Behind (2012? Jeez….), but I don’t think I’m alone there. Jane Doe is possibly one of my favourite albums forever, certain parts of Caring and Killing, Petitioning the Empty Sky, Unloved and Weeded Out. I care about those very much.
All of Björk’s music has been really important to me for a long time, because it’s always felt like a sort of mirror, like she’s able to word certain feelings in ways I wish I could. If I’m going through something, i can find a Björk song for it. Also her videos often evoke the same sort of imageries I have in my head (the best example being Jóga). The same goes for Sigur Rós.
This question is actually really hard to answer other than that, though, since I’ve noticed my attitude toward music changing significantly in the last 5 years or so, but especially in the last 3. Nothing I could ever write here would fully encompass my many relationships to music. I’ve become less of a genre purist. I’m no longer embarrassed to admit listening to certain kinds of music like when I was a teenager. I’ve mentioned it on here before, but in my metal forum days, I was really roped into the boys club and into believing that acts with women were not as good. I just didn’t listen to any music by women for a long time and I’m really sad about that internalised misogyny period of my life now. So, I’ve let a lot of that shit go. But I’m def not at the forefront of anything and I really never know what’s going on in music. I have a lot of 1-2+ hour mixes saved on SoundCloud that I like but I don’t even know what the tracks are (but source obscuring is a whole other issue altogether, so).
Right now I listen to a lot of Alva Noto, Cremation Lily, Andy Stott. I love what I’ve heard from Diane Valence a lot and I hope there’s more sometime. I go on Lana Del Rey kicks all the time. I have a collection of Chinese orchestras that I listen to a lot. I still enjoy the piano pieces I learned how to play when I was a kid. I live for Cirque de Soleil soundtracks. Portishead, The Knife, Siouxsie and the Banshees, Swans, Tschaikovsky, Mr. Oizo, Einstürzende Neubauten, The Cure, Mogwai, J Dilla, Biggie, Fever Ray, Glassjaw, GY!BE, Radiohead, and everything else I mentioned, are all long-standing staples of my music listening habits.
