Once in 60 years blooming and people says this is the bad sign. Not the most spectacular flowers, but I was very surprised to see that the old bamboo produced them! The clump was here when we bought the place (36 years ago) and has never done very much. I really thought it had died over summer, but it's got new growth, which is why I tackled weeding the grass out of it and came to notice the flowers.
