Stress Less with These 5 Calming Yoga Poses
Sometimes life may feel more than one can handle, but luckily, yoga has solutions for such problems. For stress, anxiety, or just getting some much needed rest from a long, busy day, these five yoga poses will calm you down instantly. So let us get into these straightforward yet useful poses and see how they assist you!
1. Easy Pose (Sukhasana) with Deep Breathing
Tumblr media
Sukhasana (Easy Pose) Along Deep Breath-Drawing Techniques Regarding Breathing Control
The beginner yoga poses explain how to sit without feeling tired while inhaling and exhaling. It's a technique for controlling one's thoughts and feeling the self at a more concentrated spot.
What you have to do:
Use a mat, cushion or rug and sit down in the floor with your legs crossed.
Losing focus and starting to hunch over is not an option. One can either put hands on the knees or somewhere in the lap.
Rest the eyes and inhale thoughtfully through the nose and out through the mouth, engaging in slow and deep breathing.
Helpful for:
The reduction of stress and anxiousness
Mindfulness and concentration engagement
2. Child’s Pose (Balasana)
Tumblr media
Child’s Pose is a gentle stretch that’s incredibly relaxing. It helps you let go of tension and feel grounded.
The step involved in doing it :
Without the use of any form or equipment, start on your knees and sit comfortably on your heels.
You bend from your waist and stretch out your torso. Some rest their arms on their side while people who don’t rest their arms extend them forward.
Lie on the mat and place your forehead there (on the mat) then take deep and long breaths.
The Benefits Include:
Reducing stress in the back and the shoulder areas.
Quieting the thoughts and relaxing the body.
3. Corpse Pose (Savasana)
Tumblr media
Savasana is the ultimate relaxation pose. It allows your body and mind to completely unwind.
How to do it:
Lie flat on your back with your legs slightly apart and arms relaxed at your sides, palms facing up.
Close your eyes and take slow, natural breaths.
Stay in this pose for 5–10 minutes.
Helpful for:
Relieving stress and fatigue.
Improving sleep quality.
4. Supported Shoulder Stand (Salamba Sarvangasana)
This is a more advanced pose, but it’s excellent for calming the nervous system. If you’re new to yoga, try using props or practice a gentler alternative.
How to do it:
Lie on your back and lift your legs toward the ceiling.
Support your lower back with your hands, keeping your elbows on the floor.
Hold the position for a few breaths, then slowly lower your legs back down.
Helpful for:
Reducing anxiety and stress.
Boosting circulation and calming the nervous system.
Alternative: Legs-Up-the-Wall Pose (Viparita Karani) is a simpler option with similar benefits. If you are a senior or aged person please don't do this lonely or without another person's support or guidance. You can do these Yoga for seniors exercises.
5. Legs-Up-the-Wall Pose (Viparita Karani)
Tumblr media
This gentle pose is perfect for relaxation and letting go of tension. It’s easy to do and works wonders for your body and mind.
How to do it:
Sit sideways next to a wall and swing your legs up onto it as you lie back.
Adjust your distance so your hips are close to the wall.
Rest your arms at your sides and take deep, calming breaths. Helpful for:
Relieving tired legs and feet.
Promoting relaxation and reducing anxiety.
Tips for Practicing These Poses
Create a quiet space where you won’t be disturbed.

Balasana is an easy yoga asana for all age groups and can be easily performed by those who have started doing yoga. Balasana is often the first asana/pose for people learning yoga. This is a very simple yet very effective asana which helps in making the body flexible and improves digestion. The name Balasana is derived from the Sanskrit words "bala" meaning child and "asana" meaning posture. This asana resembles the position of the fetus. It is a relaxing pose that also helps in reducing back pain. Balasana, also known as child's pose, is a relaxation pose that calms the mind, relieves stress, and stretches the hips, thighs, and legs. 𝐂𝐡𝐢𝐥𝐝'𝐬 𝐏𝐨𝐬𝐞, also known as 𝐁𝐚𝐥𝐚𝐬𝐚𝐧𝐚 in Sanskrit, is a resting yoga pose often used as a counter pose after more active yoga postures. This pose is done by kneeling on the floor with the knees spread hip-width apart, the big toes touching, and the hips resting on the heels. The torso is then draped over the thighs and the forehead rests on the floor. The arms can be stretched out in front of the body or extended back alongside the legs with the palms facing up.
