Short Gossip!
So today, April 25th is the festival of our hometown, The Bahaghari festival, in English, Rainbow festival. There's a history on that.
Anyways, 6 schools compete in a street dance competition, also my school and guess what? WE GOT IN 2ND PLACE! It was the first time that our school had competed and was introduced in our town, the fact that we're the smallest school among the other competitors. My cousin was a part of the dance and he was a good dancer, the fact he's on the front (proud cousin moment). Plus, our props and costumes are colorful and bright.
Also a couple of dancers from other schools fainted because of the heat of this country, I think it's about 37°c, even my phone got hot while filming the dance.
Plus their props and costumes were overboard which makes it hotter, also I heard they never slept while practicing at the previous days b4 the festival, day and night. I hope they're doing ok - :3

10 official entries for MMFF 2020 revealed
#PHnews: 10 official entries for MMFF 2020 revealed
MANILA – The 10 entries to this year’s Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF) has been revealed, all available digitally through streaming beginning Christmas Day, December 25.
In a statement on Tuesday, the Metro Manila Development Authority (MMDA) said instead of the usual eight entries, the MMFF will showcase 10 movies this year.
These 10 official entries are Magikland (fantasy adventure), Coming Home (family drama), The Missing (horror), Tagpuan (romance), Isa Pang Bahaghari (family drama), Suarez, the Healing Priest (biopic), Mang Kepweng, Ang Lihim ng Bandang Itim (comedy), Pakboys Takusa, (comedy), The Boy Foretold by the Stars (romantic comedy), and Fan Girl (drama).
The entries, it said, were chosen based on the criteria of artistic excellence (40 percent), commercial appeal (40 percent), Filipino sensibility (10 percent), and global appeal (10 percent).
Danilo Lim, MMDA and concurrent MMFF chairperson, noted that while the pandemic prohibits the screening of these films on cinemas, the tradition of watching MMFF films will continue through streaming services such as Upstream and GMovies.
“MMFF 2020 will not be limited to Filipinos residing in the country but will allow overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) to enjoy the festival on a legitimate platform, anywhere they are in the world. We are grateful to our partners for making the MMFF 2020 possible. We urge everyone to support the film festival,” Lim said.
The Parade of Stars and ‘Gabi ng Parangal,’ both part of the annual MMFF, will also be streamed online in compliance with health and safety protocols for Covid-19, he said. (PNA)

Plan Your 2020 Trip To Philippines At Bisitahin Ang Pinakamagagandang Waterfalls Nito
Tumblr media
Plan your trip to Philippines
Hagimit Falls
Tappiyah Falls
On your trip to Philippines galugarin ang Tappiya Waterfalls na sa Banaue, Ifugao.
Tinuy An Curtain Waterfalls
Tumblr media
Tumalog Waterfalls
MMFF, OMB file criminal charges against digital movie pirates
#PHinfo: MMFF, OMB file criminal charges against digital movie pirates
MMDA Chair Danilo Lim leads the filing of criminal charges against those involved in digiral piracy of film festival movies. (PIA NCR file photo)
PASIG CITY, Jan. 6 (PIA) -- Criminal charges were filed on Monday against 54 individuals caught by the Optical Media Board (OMB) in coordination with the Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF)’s Anti-Piracy Task Force for illegally streaming, downloading and distributing film entries of the on-going film festival.
Violations of Republic Act 8293, otherwise known as Intellectual Property Code of the Philippines, and RA 9239 or Optical Media Act of 2003 were filed against four persons who were taken into custody by agents of OMB in separate operations in Manila City and Quezon City.
Same charges were filed at the Department of Justice (DOJ) against 49 persons behind social media accounts for illegally streaming, downloading and commercially distributing MMFF movies online.
Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) and concurrent MMFF Chair Danilo Lim said they will keep on working together with members of the task force to make sure that violators are caught and brought to justice.
“Remember: Piracy is a crime. We shall pursue these violators to the full extent of the law and we shall keep a close watch against film pirates,” said Lim.
He also thanked OMB Chairman Christian Natividad for their swift action in going after the violators as he looks forward welcoming him in the Execom in the MMFF 2021.
“Let us not watch or buy pirated copies, not only that it is illegal but patronizing them would discredit Filipino filmmakers' hard work, talent, money, tears and blood put into their projects,” Lim added.
The MMFF Anti-Piracy Task Force, headed by Executive Committee member Congressman Dan Fernandez,  coordinated with the OMB, Philippine National Police, Department of Information and Communications and Technology, National Bureau of Investigation, Globe, Upstream, and movie producers.
In line with this, Lim also ordered the creation of a permanent working committee for MMFF to work with law enforcers to arrest and prosecute violators of the anti-piracy law.
Lim also urged the public to watch all entries only at the MMFF’s official partner.  All 10 MMFF entries can be watched exclusively via Upstream.ph until Wedenesday, Jan. 7.
“The best way we could help our local moviemakers and producers is by not engaging in movie piracy. We urge everyone to report cases of piracy or anyone caught recording and selling MMFF entries,” said Lim.
The 10 official entries are: Magikland, Coming Home, The Missing, Tagpuan, Isa Pang Bahaghari,  Suarez, the Healing Priest, Mang Kepweng, Ang Lihim ng Bandanang Itim, Pakboys Takusa, The Boy Foretold by the Stars, and Fan Girl. (PIA NCR)

MMFF to go after digital piracy, illegal streaming of festival movies
#PHinfo: MMFF to go after digital piracy, illegal streaming of festival movies

MMDA Chair Danilo Lim warns filing criminal charges against those involved in digiral piracy of film festival movies. (PIA NCR file photo)
QUEZON CITY, Dec. 27 (PIA) -- Amid reports of digital piracy of Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF) movies, Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) Chair Danilo Lim on Sunday warned that they will go after and file cases against those involved in unlawful distribution or illegal streaming.
To recall, this year's edition of the film festival allowed for movies to be watched anywhere, in any device, through digital streaming, in compliance with the health and safety protocols for COVID-19.
Lim, however, also warned the public against any attempt to download the streamed copyrighted digital content as it also violates the intellectual property law.
Also, Lim encouraged the digital movie patrons and the public to not to engage in piracy and to report illegal streamers and streaming sites.
Now on its 46th year, the MMFF features a diverse line-up of movies like comedy, romance, drama, horror, action, thriller, biopic, and fantasy adventure.
The 10 official entries include the following: Ang Lihim ng Bandang Itim, Coming Home, Fan Girl, Isa Pang Bahaghari, Magikland, Mang Kepweng, Pakboys Takusa, The Missing, Tagpuan, The Healing Priest, The Boy Foretold by the Stars and Suarez.
The MMFF is an annual event held every Christmas organized primarily to promote Philippine cinema, proceeds from the film festival go to a number of beneficiaries in the film industry. (PIA NCR)

Duterte, in his aired message for the MMFF, acknowledged the annual film festival as the “pioneer and foremost industry event that showcases the best Filipino filmmaking, and how it compares with the rest of the world, and described the event  as 'a beacon of hope'.
“The Metro Manila Film Festival has given us memorable films that convey the richness of our culture and heritage. This year, festival entries will be shown online so that you can see them with your families in the safety of our homes,” said Duterte, in a pre-recorded speech aired over MMFF’s official Facebook page.
“May the festival continue to be a beacon of hope for the advancement of the Philippine cinema and for the growth as a nation,” he added.
The annual tradition, which began in 1975, has given the Filipino audience a time to enjoy the holidays with their family and friends at the cinemas, said Duterte.
Now on its 46th year, the MMFF features a diverse line-up of movies, ranging from drama, comedy, romance, horror, action, to thriller, biopic to fantasy adventure.
The 10 official entries are: Magikland, Coming Home, The Missing, Tagpuan, Isa Pang Bahaghari,  Suarez, the Healing Priest, Mang Kepweng, Ang Lihim ng Bandang Itim, Pakboys Takusa, The Boy Foretold by the Stars, and Fan Girl.
All 10 official entries will be streamed online beginning December 25, Christmas Day to January 7, 2021, via Upstream.ph.
Meanwhile, MMDA and MMFF Overall Chair Danilo Lim expressed gratitude to the President’s message of support, saying it is a big boost to the annual film fest, which is part of the Filipino Christmas tradition. The MMFF is in partnership with Globe, Upstream and GMovies.
“We thank President Duterte for his words of encouragement for this year’s MMFF. His message is a morale booster to the local film industry that has been trying to survive amid the uncertainties brought by the COVID-19 (coronavirus disease 2019) pandemic,” he said.
Though MMFF movies can be watched anywhere, Lim also said that anti-piracy safeguards are in place to keep off illegal streaming through Globe’s #PlayItRight campaign.
“The best way we could help our local moviemakers and producers is by not engaging in movie piracy. We encourage everyone to report illegal streamers and streaming sites,” he added.
In compliance with the health and safety protocols for COVID-19, regular activities such as Parade of Stars and the Gabi ng Parangal will also be streamed online.
To recall, the MMFF is an annual event held every Christmas organized primarily to promote Philippine cinema. Proceeds from the film festival go to a number of beneficiaries in the film industry. (PIA NCR)

#PHnews: 1st Metro Manila Summer Film Fest to kick off April
MANILA — For the first time ever, another round of the Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF) will be held this summer, with its eight film entries to be screened after the Lenten season.
In a press launch of the event dubbed the Summer MMFF (SMMFF) in Makati City, MMFF and Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) chair Danilo Lim emphasized that the event will not be a minor festival and will be equal compared to its December counterpart.
“Lahat ng pwede gawin ng (Everything that could be done by the) MMFF executive committee ibibigay natin para maging successful ito (will be done to ensure its success). This is the first summer film fest na gagawin natin (that we’re doing),” Lim said.
Aside from awarding prizes to winners of the festival’s several awards categories, he said winning entries will also be given the same incentives as those in previous MMFFs.
“I-sponsor natin sa international film fests yung mga awards na ibibigay natin -- kung ilang daan libo yan for this award, ganun din. Ayaw natin masabi na itong summer film fest ay second class kumpara sa ano, dapat pareho yan (We’ll sponsor the winning entries in international film fests -- if we give out this much for an award, we’ll do the same here. We don’t want anyone to say that the summer film fest is second class compared to another, it should be the same),” Lim said.
Featured films
During the event, Noel Ferrer, MMFF spokesperson, joined by actress-beauty queen Kylie Verzosa, announced that the eight films will be screened beginning April 11 (Black Saturday) up until April 21.
These films, chosen out of 24 submitted entries, include ‘A Hard Day,’ an action film starring Dingdong Dantes; Tagpuan, a romance film starring Shaina Magdayao, Alfred Vargas, and Isa Calzado; ‘Love the Way ϋ Lie,’ a romantic comedy and fantasy film starring Xian Lim; ‘Isa Pang Bahaghari,’ a family drama featuring Philip Salvador and Nora Aunor; ‘Love or Money,’ starring Coco Martin and Angelica Panganiban; ‘Coming Home,’ a family drama starring Jinggoy Estrada; ‘Ngayon Kaya,’ a romance featuring Paulo Avelino and Janine Gutierrez; and ‘The Missing,’ a horror starring Joseph Marco and Ritz Azul.
According to Quezon City Mayor Joy Belmonte, the SMMFF will officially kick off on April 4 through its Parade of Stars which will feature floats themed after the festival’s eight film entries as well as carry several of the films’ stars.
The parade will begin at 3 p.m. from Welcome Rotonda and will run for seven kilometers via Quezon Avenue eastbound straight towards Quezon Memorial Circle.
To give way to the parade, the eastbound lanes of Quezon Avenue, from Mabuhay Rotonda up to Quezon Memorial Circle, will be closed to vehicular traffic from 12 p.m. to 8 p.m.
The MMDA said its traffic enforcers as well as those from the Quezon City government will be deployed along the parade route to assist and regulate traffic.
It added that an hour before the parade’s start, the entire stretch of Quezon Avenue’s eastbound lanes will be cleared and illegally parked vehicles will be towed. (PNA)

Works of 1st Ibaloi UP Fine Arts grad on display at Ibagiw fest
#PHnews: Works of 1st Ibaloi UP Fine Arts grad on display at Ibagiw fest
BAGUIO CITY -- The works of a former La Trinidad councilor, educator, historian and artist who belonged to the group of original settlers of this summer capital are currently on display at the Ibagiw Festival exhibit at the Diplomat Hotel here.
Geoffrey Carantes' masterpieces are on exhibit as part of this year's November Arts Festival.
Baguio received an accolade from the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) as among the creative cities in the world, specifically on folk arts and crafts, in 2017. The city's inclusion in the list led to the institutionalization of arts-related events in the month of November.
“Finally, he got the recognition he deserved,” Carantes' daughter Lybet Carantes–Bibal, who showcased her father's ink on paper drawings featuring locals in their native attire.
One of those on display is a 2 feet x 5 feet drawing on the history of the people of Baguio and Benguet which was the cover art of the History of Benguet People publication in the mid-'80s.
A 2.5 x 6 feet work again on Baguio’s past practically dominated the wall of the exhibit which was opened during the grand launching of the festival last Nov. 16, kicking off the two-week event that will highlight the city’s status as a Creative City for Crafts and Folk Arts.
The holding of the exhibit entitled “Pengsasan: Drawings and Prints of Geoffrey M. Carantes” is the fulfillment of Bibal's “overdue promise" to her late father.
It is also a tribute to Carantes, the first Ibaloi graduate of the University of the Philippines – Diliman Fine Arts school who “rendered his time and talent to further promote, explore and document Cordilleran culture and history through his visual arts and writings,” Bibal said.
Carantes' youngest son Bahaghari said, “My dad’s works are on the life of Ibaloi folks and how it evolved in the past 500 years. He had his own version of the Battle of Tonglo, the bloodiest battle waged by the Spaniards against the usually docile Ibalois in search of gold.”
The exhibit was opened with nephew Bobby Carantes singing an original Ibaloi song entitled “Ajuran”, meaning hammock.
Bobby, a Philippine Military Academy professor who founded with his siblings the band Bagiw in the late '70s, continued plucking the guitar as his uncle’s achievement was read and offerings were made to the gods consisting of boiled camote, boiled pork, tapey and gin.
Carantes died on Feb. 22, 1998, just before he finished his second term as councilor of La Trinidad, Benguet.
In his first term, he authored the “Panaspulan Ordinance” which institutionalized the celebration or meeting that is now the La Trinidad Strawberry Festival, said George Babsa-ay of the office of La Trinidad Mayor Romeo Salda.
“The festival was first staged in the late 1980s and way ahead of Baguio’s Panagbenga,” he added.
The late Carantes also taught at the University of Baguio, the Cordillera Career Development College and Benguet State University.
Cartooning was a sideline that helped send his four kids to school, recalled Bahaghari, who was named after his great grandfather Kustacio, who the late Carantes said was known among the circle of Ibaloy resistance fighters against Spanish rule.
Carantes was the contemporary of Mateo Carantes and cousin Cuidno Carantes, who were honored by the Baguio Centennial Commission in 2009 as builders of the city. (PNA)
