riki was born kitagawa serika in kobe japan, to a ghostwriter-- her mother. she never knew her father, and to be frank, she barely knew her mother either. she was five years old when her mother got very sick and was hospitalized, and six when her mom passed away. 

she doesn’t remember much from around that time, but she remembers meeting jinkyung. she remembers whispered conversations in a language she didn’t know. she remembers playing with jinkyung’s kids-- goeun specifically-- but being confused as to why her mother wasn’t there too. and then, out of the blue, she remembers moving to south korea.

from what she’s pieced together since, serika think that her mother used to ghostwrite for majesty back in the day and was friends with jinkyung. and when her mom fell ill, jinkyung came in and adopted her. and she wishes she knew more, but she’s been too nervous to ask. not because she doesn’t think jinkyung will tell her, but because she’s kind of scared of the answer. she’s fairly fragile as it is, and serika isn’t sure if it’s something she wants to know.

she’s lived with her new family ever since, and has been well taken care of. she loves her parents and her siblings, and has never once felt alienated. once she was old enough for social media, though, and read comments about how she was only adopted for ratings, it really fucked with her. she doesn’t think it’s true, but how can she be sure? and that too-- she really doesn’t want to ask. what if the answer is something hard for her to hear?

serika never really had any intention of being an idol, but when she was thirteen, she was scouted directly from liberty, who got in contact with the reality show producers-- something about an international group and wanting a japanese member. and serika said yes. she’s still not sure if she thinks being an idol is for her, but it’s familiar. it’s what all her siblings are doing. and if she needs advice, she can always ask her mom. or well.... maybe. she might not ask. she might not like the answer.

“seri, my love, you don’t need to try to hide it. you look very not-okay,” jinkyung said, trying to soothe. serika and goeun were probably tied as jinkyung’s most introverted children, both with anxiety issues of their own, but goeun definitely knew how to manage hers better. from what jinkyung could tell, seri more just felt shame and tried to hide it instead. “come here-- wrap up on the couch. i’ll make you some tea.” @hasikrv​
