This chapter is purely about Baggs and Aylin getting to know each other because I needed them to interact under pleasant circumstances.
First, Previous, & Next Chapter
The Nightmare of Apathy: Chapter 7
Word Count: 4,300
You stared unblinkingly at the glass bulb that illuminated the refrigerator. The cool air that wafted out caused goosebumps to break out all over your exposed skin but you barely noticed.
You slowly closed the door until the light went out before opening it again. Peering through the crack, you repeated the motion a few times. How did it work? No one had to come and light it like they would a lantern everytime the door was opened. Could it be magic?
Being this close to the appliance, you also noticed an audible hum coming from inside. It didn't exactly sound like magic, although you weren't an expert on the subject so maybe you were wrong. Actually, the sound kinda reminded you of a violent waterfall or even like a swarm of droning Drillroaches.
Your stomach suddenly decided to remind you why you were in the kitchen in the first place and with a tired groan you reopened the fridge. You weren't in the mood to make anything, so you just shoved a piece of bread into your mouth and left the door open for light while you got a glass of water.
The sound of someone scuffing their shoes against the tiled floor made you turn sharply, only to make eye contact with none other than Baggs. Illuminated by nothing but the light of the refrigerator, you stood there in your nightgown like a deer frozen in headlights.
For a moment, the two of you just stood there and stared at each other. Baggs' mismatched eyelights briefly flicked over your form before he sauntered over to the other side of the kitchen.
Your cheeks felt like they were on fire and you nearly inhaled what remained of your snack, intending to make yourself scarce as soon as you could. It was awkward enough that barely a few sleeping cycles ago he'd seen you at your most vulnerable and combined with what had happened last time, made you really not want to socialize with him.
You were glad that he hadn't said anything about your disheveled appearance, rather his focus had apparently been on acquiring a "pick me up" of some sort. His movements seemed rather sluggish and a part of you wondered if he'd not had enough sleep or something. He deliberately measured several heaping scoops of a dark powder into a small appliance that you remembered was for making coffee before pressing a button to turn it on.
Trying not to make too much noise, you eased the fridge door shut, plunging the kitchen into darkness once more as you set the glass you'd used in the sink.
"still can't sleep, huh?"
You froze at the sound of his voice and when you glanced over, you saw that he was watching you again.
While waiting for the coffee to brew, Baggs had leaned up against the countertop and pillowed his skull in his arms. His eye sockets were half-lidded and the corners of his normally perfect smile had fallen ever so slightly. He seemed almost lethargic, which was a far cry from the last time you'd spoken with him.
You shook your head. "No, but I've been taking the melatonin regularly," you answered.
He hummed thoughtfully. "it can take a bit to get into your system," he murmured.
You found the soft glow from his magenta and white eyelights oddly pretty. At the moment, they were the brightest light in the kitchen and you couldn't help but admire them.
"Are you also not able to sleep?" you asked after a moment.
He blinked before straightening up again, as if your question had reminded him of something. He glanced over at the coffee machine as it burbled and began to pour the coffee into a mug he'd placed underneath it earlier.
"i just lost track of time," he said. "it's nothing new for me..."
You shifted your weight from one foot to another and glanced around for any excuse to leave. You didn't really want to have a whole conversation with him, let alone in the dark like this.
Before you could think of anything, Baggs chuckled and looked over at you. "it's funny, but i feel like i should be used to the days being dark like this..."
His tone suggested that he was trying to make a joke but you barely registered any of it. Well, except for a specific word he'd used and, now that you thought about it, he'd used it a few times before too.
"When you say 'days', what do you mean exactly?" you asked carefully.
A few things happened as soon as you had spoken. The coffee machine announced that it was done brewing with a little beep. At the same time, Baggs' eyelights completely disappeared and his body jerked like he'd started to move towards you but physically stopped himself.
Your eyes widened and you unconsciously took a step back. You could see that you had upset him but you didn't know why.
Both of you stood there staring at the other. You were poised to flee at the slightest hint of danger while he stood as stiff as a statue, frozen mid-action while trying to figure out how to respond. After a moment, his posture relaxed and he closed his eye sockets, taking a shaky breath. When he looked at you again, his eyelights had returned although they seemed slightly smaller than usual.
"there's not really a good answer," he muttered under his breath.
You frowned slightly. "Did I say something wrong?"
"no, no, you're fine." He rubbed the back of his skull and sighed before adding, "this is why i can't go long periods of time without resting."
You raised an eyebrow at that. After a beat, you pressed him again, "So... Do you want to explain why?"
He looked defeated and couldn't seem to look directly at you right now. "i suppose there's no point in lying at this point..."
You nodded when he finally made eye contact again. "Baggs, where are you actually from?"
He seemed reluctant to answer at first but when you didn't back down, he relented. "how do i put this delicately?" He hummed thoughtfully before adding, "i'm not from this world, but another that, while similar, is also rather different."
You raised an eyebrow, giving him a slightly confused look.
He grimaced and started to say something but stopped himself. "how much do you really know about nightmare?" he asked.
You didn't like the implications behind his question. Everyone knew who he was and the things he had done. Of course, there would be some things that weren't common knowledge, but those couldn't be super important, right?
"I know pretty much the same things as everyone else. Lord Nightmare rules over this world and any time there's been talk of uprising, he immediately squashes it. He took control around four hundred years ago and no matter how hard people have tried, there's no weapon or magic that can hurt him. He also takes great pleasure in inflicting nightmares on us because he can feed off of our negative emotions."
Baggs raised a bonebrow but notably, didn't disagree with anything you said. You weren't sure if that was a good or bad thing.
"i can't exactly confirm or deny any of those things, but i can tell you that there's a bit more to him than that." He paused for a moment to think before continuing to speak again. "do you know about the multiverse theory?"
When you shook your head, the corners of his permanent smile quirked up slightly. "maybe i can explain it in depth sometime, but the basis is that every choice we make has its opposite and by extension, a reality where we made the other choice instead. i come from a reality, or a universe, where the choices people made in the past were vastly different from this universe. does that make sense?"
You thought you understood what he was saying although you weren't sure how this was related to your master.
"Yeah, I think so."
"good. now in my universe, monsterkind were trapped in the underground by humanity..." He paused for a moment before asking, "there are monsters in this world, right?"
You nodded.
"i figured as much since you didn't seem afraid of me when we first met but i couldn't be sure since there was a lot going on at the time," he remarked. "now, where was i...? oh right, there was a war that monsters lost and then they were sealed underground by humanity. i took on the role of the royal scientist and my goal was to find a way to free my people."
"I thought you were a doctor?"
He cocked his skull slightly to one side and hummed. "monsters have little need for physicians as healing magic tends to be rather common. i have done extensive studies on magic and souls in general, so i suppose in your case, nightmare deemed me the most qualified to care for you." His eyelights seemed to flicker with amusement as he added, "not to say that i don't know what i'm doing on the medical or psychological side of things, alright?"
You nodded again. It was rather awkward to be holding a conversation in the dark since you couldn't really see Baggs' face, just his eyelights. He didn't seem to be having any trouble, other than being overtired, but you chalked it up to the fact that Monsters tended to have better vision in the dark compared to Humans. It was enough to make you feel slightly envious.
You cleared your throat and shifted your weight from one foot to another. "I'm sorry, but what does this have to do with Lord Nightmare?" you asked.
"well, i don't know much about him but from what i've gathered, i do know that at the very least he influences many universes. i don't know how involved he is with each of them but i don't think it's to the same extent as he is with yours."
You weren't sure what to think about this. You hadn't even considered that other universes existed before now and the realization that your master was potentially much more powerful than you thought was terrifying. It also had you wondering why your world was any different from all the others and why he was seemingly fixated on making your life miserable. Could there be other versions of yourself who were potentially better off? It almost hurt to even think about.
"aylin?"
You nearly jumped at the sound of Baggs' voice and you realized that you had zoned out. He seemed slightly concerned if the way he scanned your face was any indication but then he looked away, rather than ask what you had been thinking about.
"I'm okay, it's just a lot to take in..." you murmured.
He nodded wordlessly and retrieved his coffee from the machine. After a moment's thought, he made eye contact with you again.
"can i make a deal with you?"
You felt a chill run down your spine. "What kind of deal?" you asked slowly.
He took a sip from his mug before answering. "i am rather curious about how your world differs from mine. if you'll tell me about it, then i will tell you anything you want to know about nightmare and the multiverse, provided i know the answers of course."
You narrowed your eyes suspiciously. It seemed so simple; just an exchange of information and not even regarding sensitive topics. So what was the catch? What could he possibly gain by making this deal with you?
くコ:彡 ~ ~ ~
"have you ever seen the sun?"
You were sitting cross-legged on the chaise lounge in Baggs' office holding a pillow in your lap while he had pulled up his office chair to sit across from you. He was on his second cup of coffee while you had opted for another glass of water since you were technically supposed to be sleeping right now.
You tilted your head and gave him a confused look. "I don't know what that is," you answered.
"really?" His tone of voice sounded surprised but also intrigued. "so it really is dark all the time like this..."
"Do you mind explaining what 'the sun' is? Or would it count towards my questions?"
Baggs chuckled and winked at you. "it depends how badly you want to know," he teased.
You pursed your lips as you considered it. You were certainly curious but you had more important questions that you really wanted answers to.
Of course you had agreed to his proposed deal. You just couldn't say no to the opportunity to make some sense of the insanity that your life had become. Baggs had suggested playing a game called Twenty-one Questions and you agreed purely because you liked the idea. So that was how you both ended up lounging around like you were having a sleepover or something.
You shrugged and hugged the pillow a bit tighter. "Alright, I'll bite."
Baggs gave you an approving nod. "i'll keep it simple for now, otherwise we could be here for hours. you know the stars?" He waited until you nodded before continuing, "the sun is one of those, except it's much closer and so it lights up the world a lot more."
You wanted to ask how much more but decided against it for now so you wouldn't use up any more of your questions.
"do you know why it's dark all the time?" he asked.
You thought back to what you'd learned in history class. There was only one reason, or rather one person, who was responsible for why this world was cursed.
"There is a story about why." You paused for a moment to gather your thoughts. "No one can agree when it actually happened or what the world was like before, but around four hundred years ago, Lord Nightmare appeared. He possessed magic and knowledge beyond what anyone had seen before, so they revered him as a god. You can probably guess how well that went though..."
Baggs raised a bonebrow but said nothing, letting you continue speaking.
"Some historians estimate that he slaughtered half the population alive at the time and permanently altered the environment as a result. Plant and animal life alike became twisted to survive the corrupting effects of his negative aura. Pretty much all of our written history before he took over was also destroyed."
"i hadn't realized nightmare had been around that long," Baggs mused quietly.
You nodded and took a sip of water. "I don't know how he does it but every time there's ever been talk of rebellion, he immediately squashes it. Then he raises the taxes and punishes everyone just so he can have a nice castle."
"your turn then."
You sighed and let your head fall back against the backrest. You'd never liked history since nothing good ever seemed to happen and now you felt rather bummed out.
"Why does he need so many worlds if he has this one?" you murmured, your gaze still fixed on the ceiling.
Baggs hummed thoughtfully. "probably because of greed. he's the type that's never content and must always have more, conquer more, and consume more..."
For a moment, neither of you said anything. You were content to follow the lines in the ceiling tiles with your eyes, rather than dwell on the unpleasant thoughts that this conversation had dredged up.
"how about a lighter question?"
You glanced over at the doctor and shrugged. "Go ahead."
He tapped his chin and his smile widened slightly. "you mentioned that plants and animals changed because of nightmare's influence, so what would you say is your favourite one?"
You paused to think for a moment. "My favourite plant is called the Winter Brittlebush since it's one of the few plants that can actually grow during the cold season and I always loved when my grandmother made her Brittlebush pie. As for my favourite animal? I think the Foxen are my favourite even though most people think they're pests."
"you'll have to show me what those are sometime," Baggs chuckled.
You smiled a little at that. "I'd love to, although I can't quite replicate my grandmother's recipe since she kept it a secret from everyone." You fiddled with your fingernails for a moment before you thought of another question. "What is your world like?"
He got a bit of an odd look but it vanished as soon as it appeared. "my world is peaceful, all things considered, although we've been trapped underground for so long that it's hard to keep everyone's hopes up. i'm working hard to find a way to break the barrier so that eventually we'll see the surface again."
"Well, I wish you the best of luck," you said, giving him a small smile.
"thank you, i could definitely use all the luck i can get."
You nodded but when he didn't say anything else, you cleared your throat to get his attention. "You still have a few questions left..."
"yes, my apologies," he responded wearily. He rubbed the space between his eye sockets and you couldn't help feeling a bit bad for keeping him up like this. However, before you could suggest that you could wait until another time to finish this little game, he asked another question.
"were monsters ever trapped underground in this universe?"
You shook your head. "As far as I'm aware, Humans and Monsters have always lived together, although we don't always get along so they tend to keep to themselves. I've met a few Monsters when they passed through town, but they never stayed long so unfortunately, I have limited knowledge on them."
"interesting... i wonder if nightmare's takeover prevented the war from happening since that seems to be one of the few constants between universes."
"I wouldn't know," you responded with a shrug. "Can I ask how he convinced you to leave your world?"
Baggs grimaced and glanced away. "he made me an offer... one i couldn't refuse," he muttered.
He seemed reluctant to elaborate further which only made you even more curious. What could your master have offered? He could definitely afford any price Baggs could've named, unless he had offered him something else than money? How much was your life even worth to the bitter god?
"do you have any family back in your town?"
His question caught you by surprise but you quickly recovered. "No," you answered and shook your head. "It's only me now..."
His bonebrows furrowed with concern. "ah, my condolences then."
"It's alright, you didn't know."
Your rather flippant response caused him to give you an odd look and he opened his mouth to say something, but you stopped him with a raised hand. "You only have one question left..." you murmured, hoping he wouldn't press any further and ask why.
He narrowed his eye sockets but mercifully didn't argue with you. "and so do you," he hummed.
You frowned and glanced down at the carpeted floor. He was right of course, so you'd have to choose carefully what else you wanted to know.
After a few moments, you came to a decision. "What about you then? Do you have any family back in your universe?" you asked.
"yes actually," he said with a smile. "my brother is the head of the royal guard. he trained really hard for years and i'm proud of everything he's accomplished."
You noticed he'd brightened up while talking about his brother and his perfect smile seemed less strained than usual. He seemed genuinely happy and you made a mental note to bring this topic up again in the future.
"He sounds amazing."
"yep, he's the coolest." Baggs had a bit of a faraway look in his mismatched eyelights, although he soon met your gaze again and you felt a pang of anxiety flare up in your gut. If you were lucky, he'd ask an easy question and you could end this game on a good note.
"aylin, can i ask you a more serious question?"
No dice.
You took a deep breath to try and calm your nerves before nodding. Had this been his plan from the very beginning?
He studied you for a moment, as if he wasn't sure if he actually should or not. "can i ask how you ended up in service to nightmare?" he asked quietly. "i understand if you would rather not say but i worry about you..."
It felt like you'd just gotten whiplash. You hadn't been expecting that question at all and to hear that he was concerned about you? Well, you weren't sure how to respond. Was he being genuine or was this another ploy to trick you?
"Well," you started to say. "Lord Nightmare demands taxes each Spring and since my town couldn't pay, they decided to send me instead."
You weren't prepared for the frankly, horrified look Baggs gave you, although he quickly tried to hide it by covering his mouth. He frowned and averted his eyelights, choosing to look anywhere else but at you.
What should you say? What could you say anyways? Maybe you shouldn't have even answered in the first place...
"i... i'm sorry, that's awful..." he finally managed to say.
You shrugged, "Thanks, but you don't need to apologize. It's done now and I can't do anything about it..."
"i didn't want to assume he'd straight up abducted you or anything like that, but as i'm sure you understand, he doesn't have the greatest reputation..."
You said nothing. Maybe it was because he was the first person you'd talked to since arriving but it felt strange to have someone sympathize with your situation. It almost hurt...
"aylin?"
Baggs seemed to look almost fuzzy when you looked at him and no matter how many times you blinked, your vision didn't clear up.
"oh darling..." he murmured under his breath.
You were crying? You must be. Why else would your chest hurt like this?
You felt him press a tissue into your hand but you didn't have the strength to even try to wipe away your tears. If anything, you were just crumpling the tissue into a ball with how tightly you were holding onto it.
The couch dipped slightly and then you felt a gentle pressure on your back as Baggs began rubbing slow circles into your shoulders. He didn't say anything, opting to just silently comfort you instead. He didn't stop either until your tears began to finally dry up.
"i'm sorry, i didn't mean to make you cry."
You shook your head and blew your nose with the tissue that was, surprisingly, still in one piece. You didn't know what had come over you. The last time you'd actually cried like that was...well, before your soul had changed.
"i know we had a rough start, which was my fault, but i don't like seeing you hurting like this." He hesitated for a few seconds before adding, "my offer still stands, darling. if you want to talk about this, or anything else for that matter, i'll be here."
You took a shuddering breath to try and compose yourself again. You still weren't sure if you should trust him after what he'd done, but deep down, you had been longing to have someone to confide in. You twisted the tissue in your hands and sighed. Decision making had never been your strong suit and you were starting to feel anxious the more you thought about it.
Baggs placed his gloved hand on yours, although he waited until you looked up before speaking. "as a medical professional, i am obligated to keep any and all sensitive information to myself. if you'll allow me, i'll help you however i am able."
"You will?" you managed to croak.
He nodded seriously. "yes, as long as i'm in this universe, you can count on me for anything. not even nightmare himself could make me break this promise."
You hesitated a second longer before nodding. "Alright then, I might have to take you up on that."
"of course, just let me know when you're ready."
"Thank you..."
くコ:彡 ~ ~ ~
You stayed with Baggs for a little while longer before the exhaustion from crying so much started to become too much to bear. You didn't want to be a bother by falling asleep in his office, even though he insisted that he didn't mind. So eventually, you excused yourself to return to your room, although he called after you before you got very far.
"oh, before i forget, there's something i wanted to tell you, aylin."
You paused in the doorframe and glanced back at him. "What's that?"
Baggs hesitated for a second before he crossed the room and approached you again. "i think you should try talking to nightmare," he said quietly.
You physically balked at the very notion. "What? I can't just... Do you have any idea what he's done?!"
He shook his skull. "i don't know anything beyond the fact that he went out of his way to save your life. he wouldn't have done that if he didn't have a good reason, right?"
You frowned and averted your gaze. Truthfully, it had been bothering you ever since you found out.
"I'm scared..." you murmured. "I'm afraid that he's going to hold this over me...like a debt that I have no hope of repaying..."
Baggs placed his hand on your arm and sighed. "then tell him that. ignoring the problem won't make it go away and if there's any hope of moving forward, you can't keep avoiding him," he warned.
"Yeah, I've noticed..."

RuDony AU - Hotel Transylvania Plotbunnies
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
So some of you might’ve seen the HiJack AU - How to Train Your Dragon  plotbunny series I’ve posted awhile back. Well, for the same reason, now I’ve been thinking of a RuDony fic with a spoof piece of the Hotel Transylvania plot.
And as I said, I have too many WiPs, not to mention an ongoing Multichap of said ship, a ‘The Little Vampire 2017′ and ‘Hotel Transylvania’ Crossover.
Which, updating it recently, made me consider, what if I’d gone with a Hotel Transylvania AU with this pairing.
Hotel Transylvania 1
Castings would go like...
Hotel Transylvania 1
Dracula - Gregory
Mavis - Rudolph
Johnny - Tony
Frankenstein - Dracula
Eunice F. - Martha (yes she would be alive here) and Mavis
Dracula’s friends - As is
Quasimodo - As is.
Hotel Transylvania 2
Dennis - An OC
Winnie - Dennis
Johnny - As himself
Vlad Dracula - As himself
Hotel Transylvania 3
Erika - Maney
Abraham Van Hellsing - Rookery
Tinkles - The Cow (haha, if you know, you know)
Hotel Transylvania 1
Tumblr media
Rudolph - 300 vampire years, Physically 13 years old.
Tony - 13 years old
The entire Sackville-Baggs clan were wiped out because of the Rookery monster hunter group.
Gregory - 309 vampire years, Physically 19 years old
Tumblr media
Only Rookery and Rudolph survived. Rudolph being a baby at that time. Freda had been the one carrying Anna at that time, so when she perished, so did Anna.
Because of this event, Gregory becomes fiercely protective of Rudolph. Which is understandable, since they were the only ones from their clan that survived the hunt of the Rookery group.
Ever since, Gregory and Rudolph lived with the Draculas, the closest family friends of the Sackville-Baggs.
Rudolph snuck out on his birthday, much to Gregory’s annoyance and started to frantically search for his brother.
While flying out, Rudolph saw a human tourist separated from his group and was starting to attract wolves, and not the werewolf kind.
Against his better judgment, something compelled him to rescue the human.
Instantly, after a successful rescue, the two felt a special connection towards each other. (Zing, lol)
It was dismissed at Tony’s excitement of meeting a vampire and Rudolph’s bewilderment that the human didn’t start panicking or trying to kill him, like Gregory said all humans would go for the kill.
He didn’t think it was just because Rudolph was the reason the mortal still lived. Rudolph thought the human was nice and he liked him.
Rudolph brought him back to the hotel but quickly put him into a disguise.
Even in his disguise, Rudolph had Tony hide in his closet when he heard Gregory coming to scold him.
Tony ended up up overstaying, adding his ideas to make Rudolph’s incoming birthday celebration more “within the times”
Gregory didn’t know what he was more puzzled about; how there’s a young vampire unsupervised and that there was a vampire clan known as the Thompson without never hearing of it, or that Tony seemed to use a lot of expressions he’s never heard of.
Hotel Transylvania 2
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Rudolph - 307 vampire years, Physically 20 years old.
Tony - 20, 7 vampire years
Gregory - 315 vampire years, Physically 26 years old
After the reconciliation that humans ‘aren’t so bad after all’ with the situation of Tony and Rudolph, Mavis met Johnny as one of the first human guest once Hotel Transylvania opened up to humans as well.
Long story short, they Zinged.
The conflict is hiding the fact that Rudolph and Tony are mated from the vampire king, Vlad Dracula, who declared that no more humans be turned to a vampire as vampires can populate by themselves now.
“Dennis” for Rudolph and Tony will be an abandoned and dying baby boy that the two found in a wolf (not werewolf, regular wolves) wrecked campsite.
The baby was found beside the dead body of a woman, possibly its mother, and a similarly dead wolf. The woman’s last act alive was possibly killing off the wolf before it could get to the baby.
Tony desperately wanted to save it and ended up biting the child to turn it to a vampire.
The two had to rush it back to the hotel though because the baby started crying up a storm, possibly now hungry for blood.
Luckily, Martha was the first one they encountered and she gave the infant blood beaters branded “milk” for vampire babies, what Mavis took as a baby.
Gregory had been furious. But the baby had cooed and giggle when first looking at Gregory, and then he was less furious. It had reminded him of Anna's laugh.
That said, Tony and Rudolph decided to name him "Anthony"
The baby was blond like Tony. So like Tony, after being turned, his hair color started going silver. Vibrant hair color change upon being turned. (e.g. blond to silver, ginger to light purple, etc.)
Combined with changing an infant to a vampire, their speed of growth is faster than a human’s until they completed the five bite cycle, so by the time it reached the fifth day of Anthony’s stay with them, he had the maturity and appearance of a six year old human.
So the additional problem is making sure that it doesn’t get out that Tony had turned a baby into a vampire.
Hotel Transylvania 3
Tumblr media
Rudolph - 308 vampire years, Physically 21 years old.
Tony - 21, 8 vampire years
Gregory - 316 vampire years, Physically 27 years old
Maney is adopted into the Rookery family, because of his inventions.
Maney is the one who created the schematics of the monster cruise ship.
Gregory Zinged with Maney.
Unlike Erika being the one resisting it in the movie, it’s Gregory. Because while he has definitely accepted Tony into the family, he is still not completely trusting over humans.
Plus, he does find him suspicious that Maney carries the Rookery last name. Even though Tony did explain that over the years, people tend to have the same last name even if they aren’t related at all. And it’s been centuries since they last saw any from the Rookery clan.
The only thing that made Gregory give Maney the benefit of the doubt was the fact he was a redhead. He remembered that all Rookeries had dark hair, except their elders which had grey hair due to the old age.
Meanwhile, Maney started feeling uncomfortable at prospect of soon using his more harmful monster inventions on the monsters, especially Gregory.
He found the vampires concern and care over his family, especially Rudolph, endearing.
It was the kind of care he longed in his own family, and the Rookeries who took him in, but never really received.
Maney’s original family abandoned him as a baby in an orphanage. He chose to believe that they must’ve cared for him a little, because he was abandoned at one of the better orphanages anyway.
The Rookeries only took him in when they saw his potential after seeing one of his inventions in the science fair his public school was holding.
In all his attempts to try and capture a random monster, because part of the plan was to use one of those monsters as bait later on, Maney always ends up running into Gregory instead.
In his efforts to dissuade the vampire from furthering suspecting him of something ulterior, they would end up chatting and getting to know each other bother.
That’s how Gregory learned of Maney’s history, at least the part of being abandoned and adopted.
It would’ve raised alarms for Gregory, that the Rookery family that Maney was apart of could be the same Monster hunting clan since they just adopted the redhead but it hadn’t occurred to him because at that point, he was giving in to the Zing more and more.
Additionally, Gregory started finding one of the things he liked about Maney was the color of his hair.
Maney almost dies standing up against Rookery to save Gregory. Gregory turns him then to save his life, Tony flies him out along with Mavis with the kids as the rest of the Sackville-Baggs and Draculas deal with the monster hunters.
Maney was surprise, he knew he had turned when he sees his red hair had gone purple. He was a bit upset that he could no longer do things he used to do, like go out in the sunlight. But he supposed he preferred living and it was a minor inconvenience.
Plus, he gets to live with Gregory forever so really, it was a big win either way.

(LOS ANGELES) — The pilot of the helicopter that crashed in thick fog, killing Kobe Bryant and seven other passengers, reported the aircraft was ascending when it actually was heading for the ground, federal investigators said in documents released Wednesday.
Ara Zobayan radioed to air traffic controllers that he was climbing to 4,000 feet (1,220 meters) to get above clouds on Jan. 26 when, in fact, the chopper was plunging toward a hillside where it crashed northwest of Los Angeles, killing all nine people aboard.
The report by the National Transportation Safety Board said Zobayan may have “misperceived” the angles at which he was descending and banking, which can happen when a pilot becomes disoriented in low visibility.
“Calculated apparent angles at this time show that the pilot could have misperceived both pitch and roll angles,” one report stated. “During the final descent the pilot, responding to (air traffic control), stated that they were ‘climbing to four thousand.’”

John Cox, an aviation safety consultant, said the helicopter’s erratic flight path — the aircraft slowed, climbed, then banked to one side while sinking rapidly — are telltale signs of a pilot becoming disoriented in conditions that make it hard to see terrain or the horizon.
“He is not the first person to experience it,” Cox said. “It’s a significant cause of accidents.”
The 1,700 pages of reports do not offer a conclusion of what caused the crash but compile factual reports. A final report on the cause is due later.
The NTSB said there was no sign of engine failure in the Sikorsky S-76 and the rotor was spinning just before it hit the ground at about 184 mph (296 kph). The impact caused a crater and scattered debris over an area the size of a football field in the Calabasas hills. Flames engulfed the wreckage.
Bryant, his 13-year-old daughter, Gianna, and six of their friends were killed, along with Zobayan.
About 45 minutes before takeoff, Zobayan had texted a group of people overseeing the flight that the weather was looking “OK.” Richard Webb, owner of OC Helicopters, which booked the flight, agreed.
Zobayan took off from John Wayne Airport in Orange County at 9:06 a.m. with the eight passengers he had flown the day before to the same destination: a girls basketball tournament at the retired Lakers star’s Mamba Sports Academy in Thousand Oaks.
When the helicopter hadn’t landed within an hour, an executive of the company that operated the aircraft began a frantic search for it on tracking software and had another company chopper dispatched to look for it.
“The weird thing, though, is that the tracker had stopped at 9:45 a.m. which is not normal and we were trying to reach Ara over the radio,” noted Whitney Bagge, vice president of Island Express Helicopters. “I kept refreshing the tracker praying that it was just broken.”
Four current and one former pilot for Island Express were interviewed by NTSB investigators and while some praised the company, others said the safety culture could have been better, according to the reports.
One pilot said Zobayan, the company’s chief pilot, didn’t discuss safety policy or the minimum visibility needed to fly in certain weather. Another comment said the company didn’t have a real safety management program.
The company, however, said it had no problem canceling flights if weather was poor. It cited six flights it canceled for Los Angeles Clippers star Kawhi Leonard and one for celebrity Kylie Jenner that would have used the same helicopter.
Cate Brady, a personal assistant to Bryant, told NTSB investigators that he never complained or pushed back if his flights were canceled.
Island Express reported 150 flight cancellations due to weather last year. There were 13 cancellations due to weather for 2020, all logged in the two days before Bryant’s fatal flight.
The afternoon before the flight — after returning the Bryants and their guests to Orange County — Zobayan had texted that he had just checked the weather for his next flight and it was “not the best day tomorrow but it is not as bad as today.”
The flight departure Saturday morning had been delayed by weather by 15 minutes, Brady said.
Brady said the original flight time for Sunday was 9:45 a.m., but Bryant had it rescheduled to 9 a.m. because he wanted to see another team play before his daughter’s game.
Bryant’s widow, Vanessa, has sued the pilot, Island Express and the owner of the craft for negligence. In the lawsuit, filed in February as a star-studded public memorial was held before 20,000 people at Staples Center, where Bryant played most of his career, Vanessa Bryant said the pilot shouldn’t have flown in those conditions and should have aborted the flight.
Zobayan’s brother responded in a court filing that Kobe Bryant knew the risks of helicopter flying and his survivors aren’t entitled to damages from the pilot’s estate. Island Express Helicopters Inc. has denied responsibility, calling the crash “an act of God” beyond its control.
Autopsies released last month showed Zobayan did not have drugs or alcohol in his system at the time of the crash. The coroner’s reports said all nine aboard died from the impact, not the fire that followed.
The others killed were Orange Coast College baseball coach John Altobelli, his wife, Keri, and their daughter Alyssa; Christina Mauser, who helped Bryant coach his daughter’s basketball team; and Sarah Chester and her daughter Payton. Alyssa and Payton were Gianna’s teammates.
One of the 40 documents posted by the NTSB includes a 215-page safety report that concludes with an article written by the former president of the Helicopter Association International titled “Land the damned helicopter.”
The late Matt Zuccaro wrote the commentary in 2013 after becoming frustrated reading NTSB crash reports and noting that most could have been prevented by a pilot deciding to land as fuel ran low or weather deteriorated.
“Why don’t pilots exercise one of the most unique and valuable capabilities of vertical flight — namely, land the damn helicopter!” Zuccaro wrote. “In a high percentage of crashes, this simple act would break the chain of events and prevent the accident.”
The article was included without any comment from investigators.

New top story from Time: Pilot of Kobe Bryant’s Doomed Helicopter May Have Become Disoriented in Fog, NTSB Says

Baggs after losing to Nightmare in the Sexy Sans contest:
Tumblr media
He will never emotionally recover from this.
I really wanted to try doodling him again and I don't really hate it? I'm not going to look at it for too long...
Oh hey, Minty is here too! I like to think she became a multiversal therapist after Have Some Empathy, Dear and since Baggs is already a doctor, they sometimes work together.

This writing request comes from my friend @gamemasterofscratch who requested Dr. Baggs being comforted as he's always so stressed and busy. I decided to try my hand at writing in third person for the first time in a while and chose the Reader-Insert character from the Bad Sansuary challenge I wrote, "Have Some Empathy, Dear." (I hope you like it, even if it isn't how I usually write!)
Dr. Baggs belongs to @/megalommi
CW: Mind control against an unwilling person. Nothing explicit happens though.
Doctor's Orders
Dr. Baggs & Female!OC
Word Count: 3,397
Careful...this next part was especially sensitive.
His phalanges trembled ever so slightly as he started to pour the contents of one beaker into another one. He only needed a drop, any more would ruin the experiment and mean the last twelve hours of work had been wasted.
He had taken the necessary precautions of course, just like he always did, even if his bones weren't as frail as many other's bodies were. He had thick black rubber gloves on that covered his entire forearms, a white lab coat that was specially treated to be fireproof, and he was even wearing safety goggles in case there was an explosion.
He narrowed his eye sockets as he scrutinized the bright pink liquid that he was trying to add to another beaker that contained an ashy powder. There was no guarantee that replicating it was even possible. He still had to try though. It would change everything if he could successfully make a synthetic version of that peculiar substance that humans produced naturally. There was no limit to how useful their own version of Determination could be.
Why, he would never have to worry so much about monsters losing hope and falling down. The Guard could have stronger soldiers that could evenly match the most competent human ones, not they weren't already capable in combat that is. He could even break the barrier and reclaim the surface for Monsterkind if he so chose. Not that he was sure that was even feasible in the first place.
A drop of the pink liquid landed on the small pile of ash and...nothing...
He held his breath and studied the beaker closely for several long minutes. When still nothing happened, he finally caved and added another tiny drop, just hoping that it was a fluke. He couldn't have messed something up, he just couldn't have!
A small puff of smoke curled up from the ashes, flooding his nasal cavity with an acrid stench that forced him to take a few steps away from his desk.
He clenched his fists, the rubber material of his gloves crying out in protest, and grit his teeth so harshly that he felt a small jolt of pain in the back of his skull.
wonderful job, sans... you've failed again...
As soon as the thought entered his skull, he frowned and tore off the goggles. He hadn't gone by that name in years, so why had it returned to him at a time like this?!
With a huff, he threw the eye wear at the far wall. The action wasn't nearly enough to placate his growing frustration and with a growl, he turned his attention to the desk. He swept everything to the floor and pounded a clenched fist onto the metal surface, hardly registering the pain from doing so.
Now he'd made a mess of his work area that he'd have to thoroughly clean up. It was a pain to get Monster dust off of anything, let alone that synthesized mixture his assistant had invented. The only good side was that this room had been constructed from easily sterilized materials.
He was so tired.
Yet no matter how hard he had tried to find a remedy in the past, he couldn't sleep. While having more time to dedicate to his work was helpful, it was also detrimental for his health to constantly be burning the candle at both ends.
Dr. Alphys had called him a workaholic once and he'd laughed. She was right though. He couldn't leave well enough alone or stop working for a moment, lest he fall behind some unseen competitor.
He took a few deep breaths and counted backwards from ten. It was such a simple technique but humans certainly knew what they were talking about when it came to psychology. Now if only they had information in their books on how to counteract magical insomnia...
Rubbing small circles over his sphenoid bone, or where his temples would approximately be if he had flesh, he did his best to ease the tension and stress that had built up inside his soul. His frontal lobe felt sensitive too, like he was about to get a migraine, which he really didn't want to deal with right now.
Something set his instincts on high alert. It was a soft sound, like someone had scuffed their foot against the tiled floor when they'd taken a step.
His skull whipped in the direction of the intruder.
His eye sockets widened when he realized they weren't a Monster at all, but a Human. One he'd never seen before either, which was impossible, what with all the surveillance systems scattered around the Underground that he personally oversaw.
They appeared to be a woman with shoulder length dark hair that had loose ringlets at the ends. She had a lighter complexion compared to some humans he'd interacted with and striking eyes that seemed like a mix of green and blue. She was dressed causally in a simple striped cardigan and a pair of black jeans. Interestingly, she also seemed to have some sort of thin plating poking out from her clothes that kind of resembled armour.
She was also taller than him, by at least six or seven inches. Granted, most people were taller than he was, but it was another factor he found concerning about her.
The weird thing was that she was just watching him. All other humans had at least tried to attack him or flee on sight. So why wasn't she?
Forcing himself to relax, he let his arms hang loosely at his sides in an attempt to appear non-threatening for the moment. "can i help you?" he asked, his clear baritone voice easily carrying across the room to her.
She shook her head, although he didn't fail to notice the glimmer of curiosity in her eyes. He could also tell that she was a little nervous, although she was trying to seem relaxed like he was. Her shoulders were rather stiff and with the way her feet were spaced apart, he could tell she was readying herself to flee if he made any sudden movements.
"I was about to ask you that same question," she responded. She let out a bit of an awkward chuckle but made no moves to approach him.
He shook his skull. "i don't need any help you think you can provide, human." He didn't really mean to sound hostile but he couldn't help it.
She seemed completely unfazed though. "That's okay then."
"who are you?" he asked.
She got a strange look on her face and the corners of her lips quirked up slightly. "Well, I have a lot of names, but you can call me...Minty."
He could only look at her blankly. Someone was messing with him, surely. Where had this odd human even come from? She hadn't popped out of nowhere, right? He needed to buy some time and maybe get an idea of what was happening.
Folding his arms behind his back, he drew himself up to his full height and briefly regarded the woman in front of him. "my name is dr. baggs and if you aren't interested in a fight, i have some questions for you..."
She smiled in a more genuine way which was slightly reassuring. "Of course, so long as you let me ask a few of my own."
Baggs nodded and gestured to a rolling chair next to another desk. "feel free to sit down and make yourself comfortable." When the human did so, he pulled another chair over and sat down, although he was careful to stay just out of her reach.
"how did you sneak past all the cameras and get into my lab?" he asked.
She laced her fingers together in her lap and fiddled with her fingernails. Her posture still seemed tense but she appeared calm at the moment.
"You wouldn't believe me if I told you," she said with a slight chuckle.
He raised a bonebrow suspiciously. "try me, i've seen a lot of things that many would consider unbelievable."
She seemed concerned and her eyebrows furrowed as she considered it. After a moment, she made up her mind and looked up at him again.
"Alright, if you say so. The truth is that I'm not from this world and...a friend dropped me off here."
He understood why she didn't think he'd believe her. In the past he'd theorized about the existence of alternate timelines or even a multiverse, however it hadn't been feasible to explore such theories. He still didn't have the ability to properly do so and even if he did, it could prove dangerous to his own timeline. Who knew what entities existed beyond the veil of reality?
He tapped his clavicle with a phalanx in a thoughtful way. "i see...then why are you here? what do you want from me?" he asked carefully.
She opened her mouth to answer but shut it again with a frown. After a couple seconds of contemplation, she tried again.
"I'm here because of you..."
"why is that?"
She took a deep breath and made eye contact with him. "I can sense how stressed you are and...how your soul is crying out in pain," she stated.
Baggs was a little surprised at how frank she was being right now. Still, he couldn't help but remain on edge. He knew how dangerous humans could be, even without magic, but he was a bit curious how she could sense his emotions.
"how do you know this?"
She pursed her lips as she tried to figure out the best way to answer his question. "It's a little complicated to explain but I've always had a talent for reading how people are feeling. I wouldn't exactly call it magic but it has similarities."
He wasn't sure what to think about how vague her answer was, but he didn't like this situation at all. She was pretending to act casual but he could tell that she was just as, if not more, on edge than he was. Yet she had been polite and actually had tried to relieve some of the tension between them. There was one thing that wasn't sitting well with him though and that was the fact that she seemed to want something from him.
Her gaze shifted from him and towards the discarded experiment on the floor. "I'm guessing whatever happened is why you're so stressed right now, huh?"
"you would be correct."
"Did you want to tell me about it?"
When he didn't answer immediately, she glanced back over at him and tilted her head in a questioning way.
"no, i wouldn't tell anyone, let alone you."
She didn't react to his harsh tone and simply nodded in an understanding way. "That's fine, we don't need to go into details. I can see you didn't get the results you wanted though. How many times have you tried to do this?" Her tone of voice was soft and she seemed to be choosing her words carefully so as to not upset him.
Baggs sighed and shifted in his chair uncomfortably. "nine times now," he muttered under his breath.
She inhaled sharply and he could feel that she was studying him. "I don't think I would've tried again after failing three times. It's impressive how persistent you are, at least in my opinion anyways," she remarked.
She asked a few more casual questions about various topics and he responded in kind. However, the longer the conversation went on, the more uneasy he began to feel. It was like she was trying to get him to feel more comfortable around her. The whole situation felt familiar and he knew why.
It was something he'd often done in the past.
If she was planning to do something, getting him to feel more at ease was the perfect first step.
He hated it.
Before she could ask another question, he interjected with one of his own. "i might be wrong here, but you have experience as a therapist, don't you?" He'd kept his tone even and leaned forward while speaking to express interest in what her answer would be.
She seemed surprised but soon smiled warmly at him. "Yes, I-"
No sooner had she responded did Baggs do what he should've done from the beginning. His magenta right eyelight expanded until it filled his entire socket and the pink swirled with blue to create a hypnotizing array that couldn't be ignored.
She fell easily under his control, just like everyone else before her, but in the split second it took to do so, she seemed to realize what he was doing. She had a look of shock but there was also a strange glint in her teal eyes. She lunged for him and while he tried to move away, her hand closed around his left forearm in a vice grip.
His mind was suddenly flooded with an overwhelming sense of compassion and empathy. However, the feelings weren't his own and for a moment, he was paralyzed from the shock.
He was stronger though.
A simple thought was all it took for the feelings to fade.
Baggs leaned his skull back against the chair and let out a heavy sigh. He'd never had anyone react like that before. Violence sure, but never using...Intent. It didn't make any sense...
He looked down at her, half sprawled on the ground where she'd collapsed and half sitting up almost leaning on top of him, all the while she was still clutching onto his arm. She was stronger than he'd first assumed and he was lucky she hadn't had a chance to go for the kill. But...that wasn't what she'd even tried to do in the first place...
why didn't you follow through and attack me? he asked, using his own thoughts to communicate.
Her expression remained passive and her body didn't move at all, meaning she was still completely under his control. He wanted an answer though and used his magic to gently prob into her mind.
"...I only wanted to help you," was her silent response.
how does any of that help? he pressed further.
"I could feel how much you were hurting. I want to help you with shouldering it, if you'll let me..."
how is trying to influence my mind and emotional state supposed to help?
"I wasn't trying to control you... You didn't believe that I truly wanted to help earlier...so I had to show you."
Baggs narrowed his eye sockets suspiciously. He knew she was telling the truth as no one could lie to him when under his direct control. However, he was a bit intrigued as to what her goal had been.
what else would you do to help me? he asked.
"..." Her thoughts were silent, although he could sense that she was struggling to come up with an answer. "...Anything you allow me to. Although earlier I was thinking of trying to comfort you if you don't mind that," she finally answered.
He decided to give her a chance and relaxed the hold his magic had on her mind. He didn't release her just yet though.
She was still for a moment before she let go of his forearm and sat up properly on the floor. Her eyes never left his and she remained docile, not making any sudden movements.
"May I hug you?" she asked in a soft whisper.
"you may."
She dragged herself to her feet and shuffled towards him. Her movements were slow and unsteady, likely from the effects of the hypnosis, but she managed to stiffly wrap him in a hug.
Baggs let her hold onto him for a couple of minutes before gently pushing her arms away. It felt rather odd allowing a stranger to touch him like that but it wasn't entirely unpleasant either.
Her eyebrows were slightly furrowed with concern and she tilted her head. "I can sense that you're still tense. Would you like it if I tried something different?"
He gave her a curious look. "what else can you do?"
"Well, I know how to use magic to absorb negative feelings."
"i know most humans are incapable of using magic, so could you explain your magic and who taught you how to use it?" he asked.
She nodded and sat down on the ground again, although she crossed her legs this time so she could be more comfortable. "I've always been good at empathizing with people but I can do two things with my magic. I can transfer my own positive emotions to someone else by touching them or I can replace their negative emotions with my own positive ones, absorbing them into my own soul."
She paused for a moment and, sensing that she wasn't willing to reveal who had taught her, Baggs focused his magic again to probe her into telling him.
"His name is Nightmare and...he was also the one who brought me here..." she whispered.
Baggs felt a wave of annoyance flicker over him at the mention of the god of negativity. They'd only met in passing before and it hadn't been a pleasant one.
"Are you okay? I can try comforting you again..." She asked quietly, having apparently sensed his change in demeanor.
He shook his skull and sighed. "no. tell me why he sent you."
Her passive expression faltered and her eyebrows knit together with concern. Still, she was powerless to refuse a direct command in this state.
"Nightmare can sense your negative emotions and he's become very interested in your work," she muttered. "However, I'm not here to convince you to make any deals... I just want to help you."
He knew she was telling the truth and yet he couldn't shake the feeling that Nightmare was using this situation in an attempt to establish good relations. It didn't sit well with him at all.
Baggs fully released his hold on her soul and mind, his right eyelight returning to its usual size and magenta colour as he did so. He could take back the control at anytime and she wouldn't even be able to notice if he did, but he didn't tell her that.
She inhaled sharply and her eyes flicked around the room before settling on him again. As she did so, her body jerked backwards as if to instinctively get away from him but she stopped herself. It was incredibly apparent to any outside observers that she was struggling to remain calm and not freak out, which was commendable.
Baggs stood up and offered her one of his hands to help her stand up as well. "i should apologize for being such a poor host. would you like something to drink?" he inquired.
She grimaced and shook her head but still accepted his help. "Please don't take this the wrong way, but I don't trust you after...that." She looked away from him and dusted her clothing off.
"i understand your concern, but i have no intentions of harming you." He smiled and tried to change the subject with a different question. "may i ask how you came into nightmare's service? you don't seem like the type someone like him would select for his...work."
She smiled while recalling the memory before answering. "You're right, I actually met and befriended his henchmen first. He saw fit to rescue me when my own world collapsed."
He raised his bonebrows in surprise. "I'm amazed you're still in one piece," he remarked dryly.
She chuckled and waved him off. "Well, I have a few more scars now compared to before, but those are mostly from learning self-defense. I'm not deployed for the usual missions so I haven't had to kill anyone yet."
"what missions are you usually deployed on then?"
"I am tasked with the missions that require more tact than what Nightmare himself is able to perform."
It seemed he'd been right from the beginning.
Neither of them said anything for several long seconds. Finally, she put her hand on his shoulder and gave him a gentle smile.
"Is there anything else I can do to help you? I don't know about you but I'd like to at least end this meeting on a pleasant note," Minty commented.
Baggs nodded slightly. "i suppose i can afford to take a break for a little while..." he hummed.

And the winner is... Writing Requests!
Thank you to everyone who voted! \(^o^)/
So, I will be accepting up to five requests, depending how many of you are interested of course. (I may accept a few more though.)
Classic Papyrus Oneshot [Completed]
Doctor's Orders [Completed]
A Gentle Soldier [Completed]
[Open]
[Open]
I will write for any existing Undertale character, preferably those who have been in the fandom for a while or have easily accessible information so I can research them. I usually write Reader inserts (second person pov) but I can write OC's too.
The drabble will be at least 2,000 words but probably less than 3,000 words, depending on how much detail I end up going into.
I will not write:
Smut/graphic sexual content (I know a few of you are minors and I'm not comfortable writing that anyways.)
Anything endangering minors such as graphic violence or anything sexual.
Gore (Blood and injuries is fine, just nothing intense like torture.)
Incest, Sanscest, Papscest, or Fontcest. (You can ship what you like but I don't like any of these and I will not be writing them.)
Obvious kinks (I shouldn't have to list them all here but if they make me squirm, I am not writing them. Liking teeth or claws, pulling hair, or being slightly dominant in a situation are fine though.)
These are basic guidelines and I may add onto them if I realize I forgot anything. As much as it pains me, I cannot write everything and I have the right to reject your request if it makes me uncomfortable.
That said, I will write:
Reader x Character or OC x Character (I would prefer to write F/M as I am a female but I can write gender neutral too.)
Fluff (This is easily my favorite thing to write!)
Spicy (I also love writing this but I'm still new at it so no promises. Sex will be treated as a fade to black if you want that still.)
Frans or Soriel (I do ship these so long as everyone is consenting adults. I may consider other ships but no promises as I don't really ship any other non-canon pairings.)
Angst (I do like writing this, however, I can't promise it will be good. I prefer happy endings but if you want to see a character suffer, I can do that.)
I may also add onto this list if I remember something else. I have only ever written the Underfell brothers, some of the Classic brothers, G!Sans, and the Bad Sans' including Nightmare, Horror, Dust, and Killer.
I'm interested in writing Cross, Dr. Baggs, Dream, Ink, Error, Fresh, the Swapfell brothers, the Mafiafell brothers, the Underswap brothers, Farmtale, or various other interpretations such as cryptids, sirens, or different settings like a Western.
Have any questions about something not listed here? Please shoot me a message!
I'm doing this for fun but I want you to enjoy the process as well. No promises how long these will take to write as I'm generally pretty busy. I will update this post as the requests come in and unless you don't want me to, I will be posting these requests on my AO3 as well as on here.
Here's to a fun year! Thank you for reading this far if you did! (つ≧▽≦)つ
