Resident Evil 7: Frisches Blut

Nach dem überlangen Actiondebakel Resident Evil 6 kommt Teil 7 angenehm frisch und kompakt. Hier weicht unkoordiniertes Zombie-Chaos dicht inszeniertem Backwoodshorror – denn neuerdings geht’s aus der Ego-Perspektive ins Texas Chainsaw Massacre-Hinterland, statt ins ausgelutschte Racoon City: Im vergilbten Horrorhaus der kannibalistischen Baker-Familie sucht Held Ethan nach seiner verschwundenen Frau – und löst dabei simpel-motivierende Rätsel, ballert dank spärlicher Munition behutsam oder geht dem Feind Clock Tower-style aus dem Weg. Die ganz neue Sicht und die betont cineastische Präsentation bringen derweil effektiv den Terror näher – dafür zickt im Actionfall die Steuerung, während ein uninspirierter wie nerviger Gegnertyp etwas auf die Stimmung drückt. Die Frischblutinfusion geht übrigens auf Kosten des Wiedererkennungswertes: Trotz zahlreicher Retro-Anspielungen wirkt Resident Evil 7 nämlich wie ein völlig neues Game. Das schreckt vielleicht alte Spieler ab, holt aber neue ins Boot – und frisches Blut können alle Seiten gebrauchen. 8/10

THE X-FILES episode "Home" (Season 4, Episode 2) still stands as one of the creepiest, most unsettling episodes of TV ever created. Beware of SATAN'S BLADE! A forgotten gem, shot in 1980 but unreleased until '84, this is a bloody, nasty, & at times surreal little horror. Arrow's release is fantastic. Just beautiful transfer! Comes with a nice booklet & some decent features. - Trivia: Director L. Scott Castillo Jr. doubled for another actor for the scene in which the killer cuts a woman's shirt off with a knife.
