After the Empire was born and till nowadays, the main legislative body is the Earth Senate, which is divided into two Houses: Lower House (includes elected deputies) House of Lords (includes representatives from all planets of the Empire) The number of representatives depends on the population of the planet. Each star system has its own House of Representatives which deals with local affairs. The highest representative power belongs to the Council of Equals. The Emperor is the head of the representative branch and the supreme commander in chief. The Emperor is elected for life until he is overthrown by the Council of Equals and the House of Lords. The Emperor chooses his heir among the candidates (proposed by the noble houses) whom the Council of Equals and the House of Lords can either approve or reject. Then a new heir is selected. Then they vote again to approve the heir as the Crown Prince and Grand Duke of Mars. From this moment the prince loses all ties with the family. Refuses all other titles, standings, and heritage. Since that moment the Empire is his life. The Emperor's children can only become heirs if they are worthy. The title of the emperor is not inherited by children. The overpopulated Earth released hundreds and thousands of large and small colonial ships into space. They established thousands of colonies on various planets. However, limited resources, unreliable routes, and lack of decent communication have left some colonies stuck in development and some even degraded. Only a few centers have become powerful enough to have their own cultural and economic capacity. The Earth has remained the most powerful social and economic center of humankind. After the social crisis that led to the so-called Restoration of Democracy, the Empire was formed on Earth. Despite its name, the human state is more a confederation than an empire. Colossal distances means make it impossible to maintain a strongly centralized power system.
