John's Passion narrative has a never-ending fascination for me, because it's where you get Jesus at his most divine--knowing everything that was going to happen, making the guards fall to their faces when he speaks the name of God--while the people around him are at their most human.

There's an entire political drama going on. Pilate the Roman pagan getting dragged into this provincial Jewish religious dispute. These Jewish leaders and Jesus providing different visions of truth to a politician who doesn't care what the truth is. There's extremely sharp political back-and-forth between the Roman and the Jewish authorities--the Pharisees trying to force Pilate's hand by saying that everyone who makes himself a king opposes Caesar, then Pilate backing them into proclaiming Caesar as their king and twisting the knife of pettiness by labeling Jesus as the Jewish king in four different languages while He hangs on the cross.

Petty, personal, political human drama taking up all their attention.

And meanwhile, God is dying.

is it weird to out of nowhere get spammed with anon hate about xyz person who you blocked months ago & then seeing xyz's alt (that you didn't know existed until now) out of nowhere all over your dash in the exact same time-frame?

having a category 5 ribbons and aimilios event rn (that i will soon take care of with an art idea i had in mind for a while..) and in the midst of it i thought about how much i shortened their names for the funsies. stuff like 'aimilly'. 'ribs'. 'bibbsy'. it's like im talking about these two like they are my friends while im 70% certain they'd beat me up if they saw what i said about them and their dad.

now that we've all established none of us remembered that backbiter could open portals (including rick apparently cause he never used it again after tlt) can i just ask

how are they gonna justify the whole fourth book? why would luke need the labyrinth?

maybe i'm missing something obvious like "the fleece would never allow him passage" or something like that, but if he can open portals by the mere slash of his sword, why would he need the labyrinth?

also, given that this power/feature is never mentioned nor used again, we never got the portal-opening "rules", meaning we do not know how that whole thing works, so the writers can literally do anything, right?

which brings me back to "how are they gonna justify the whole fourth book?", just a thought

its such a cool choice for luke because hes a son of hermes and all that. but this is an INSANELY impactful and convenient plot device. did anyone in that writer room consider the repercussions???

why does luke need the labyrinth if he can just hashtag portal to camp?? why does he even need the princess andromeda to get the fleece when he can swish swosh and go straight to Polyphemus' Island??? what are the limitations to this thing can an army go through it???? is kronos gonna use it????

also backbiter being a half celestial bronze half tempered steel is like the whole point of why its luke's weapon of choice. its crucial to his character as someone who has lost hope in both humanity and the gods.

It‘s funny, seeing a lot of people on here argue about, how backbiter being able to open portals makes the entirety of the labyrinth in book 4 irrelevant, when a major thing, that is emphasized multiple times in Percy‘s dreams in that book is, that Luke doesn‘t have backbiter at the time, he and his army enter the labyrinth, because it is being reforged into Chronos‘ scythe

also we should bring back Luke with a golf club because we only get that in Demigod Diaries but it is severely underappreciated. Give Luke back his lame dorky golf club weapon!
