ive unexpectedly gotten way back into overwatch 2, heres some observations:

im frankly annoyed to say that the game has really gotten to a good state of balance in terms of the meta. there's very few weak points in the roster, some heroes still suffer from really doing well in certain situations and not very well in others, and i genuinely love a lot of the changes that have been made to heroes. i used to absolutely hate orisa and now i love her, i find myself even playing more symmetra and brigitte and so on. i suppose the biggest critique is that sombra is now extremely fun to play but extremely not fun to play against

the battle pass is annoying but easy to ignore, and now that there isnt the constant chase for lootboxes my god the game is so much more rewarding and healthy. its no longer "i gotta play more to get more gold" its "im gonna play a few rounds and then call it a day" like thank goodness

theres still plenty of chodes in quickplay who treat it way too serious even tho comp is right there for them

"mystery heroes" always seems to have the most positive and fun players

ive gotten way worse at deathmatch which makes me sad

"hero mastery" is a fucking joke unless youre really into speedruns

i dont know what the "missions" mode is and i dont care enough to find out

for me personally i do not miss the lack of PvE, i always hated every PvE event so no skin off my back but it does feel lame that they completely backtracked on that promise for those who did want it

i think we can officially declare the lore to be absolutely pointless beyond letting the team make heroes with unique abilities. like they went "heres a healer with sun powers cuz shes the last warrior from a group that had solar threads augmented into their bodies so they could harness the power of the sun." sure, fuckin whatever, shes fun to play so thats all that matters. we're never gonna get lore for zenyatta at this point so im checked out of that. its like that graph someone made that was like "star wars is aesthetically sci fi but materially fantasy" its the same thing, it works i guess

very suspicious of this person i just played a bunch in tekken. like he was on my friends list, whatever, quickplays dead, im like Hey wanna spar and hes like sure. Hes lower rank, which doesnt mean a whole lot but it generally gives me an idea of how the other person plays. I beat him pretty handily for about... 6 games straight, but all the sudden his game crashes and hes like ahh shit. one sec. restarts the game, it crashes when we enter the game for him. hes like give me thirty minutes. he comes back, still not great, but all the sudden hes doing a lot more like whiff punishment fantastic punishes REALLY on the dot whiff punishes like hes punishing my whiffed jabs gang. he starts beating me pretty handily, but its not super typical its almost exclusively thru counter hits and these unrealistic whiffs. im like ggs i take the L and look at my replays like normal. and theres such a marked difference in his inputs, what REALLY makes me suspicious is how he would back, then downback, and back during my wavedash pressure in our last game. i WHIFFED the hellsweep but he reacted to it, ducked it, and stood up extremely quickly and jab punished me. i checked the other replays and after he crashed the same quick input (back, downback, back) during all my other mixes, between jins 123 and 124 string, and he never fell for any of them. i think he turned some shit on because otherwise he wasnt great but it was getting any of my mixes off that just didnt work.

rivals quickplay is the most toxic cesspool imaginable, comparable to overwatch 2. everyone plays magik/spider/hulk/thor and sweats their ass off hard diving supports. diamond level comp is surprisingly laid back, very chill. team comp is well balanced, people don't get salty very often. strange game

i want to know about your league main(s?) , what do you usually play?

Back in the day when I still played summoner's rift God intended me to be a talon main but talon is such an awful pick into almost every team comp/match up that exists in the game I almost always ended up playing something safer instead, usually lux/annie who are plenty of fun too tbf but very vanilla.

I also became very fond of Lillia and tried to dip my toes into jungle since that was somewhere I could theoretically play Talon too but before I could really get into it the interest I had for SR evaporated from my body and I became an ARAM-only overnight lol. Once quickplay comes back I might return to the rift but for now I don't know what an objective is and I don't want to know.

I like to think I'm fairly flexible in terms of ARAM. I'm always happy to roll Talon/Lillia/Lux/Annie but otherwise my preference tends to go long range mages with 1000 years of poke (except zoe she scares me) > low-brain power ADCs (favs are jhin <3 <3 who isn't exactly brainless but i love him, jinx, twitch, miss fortune) > basically any champ with reliable CC that are good in team fights (neeko, leona, braum, veigar, malphite)

I've been a big fan of varus recently cus he's kind of a combination of all my favourite things, but I've played him like three times tops.

I've also got a soft spot for enchanters with damage builds, my favs are probably AD lulu and AP sona rn but I've had a lot of fun with AD soraka in the past too. he's not a support but I also almost exclusively play AP ezreal unless our team is in desperate need of a tank-killer.

I'm probably least comfortable on divers or just bruisers in general which might contribute to my hatred of bruiser talon lol.

Your post about faggot and tranny basically being your name at this point got me thinking, about slyrs and associated contexts, and heres where it led:

I think the introduction of mictos woukd fix alot of gamer toxicity. The real people would be able to be polite and supportive to each other, while all the vitriol would be aimed where its supposed to be, at things like you.

This would quickly lead to a problem though: micros are constantly targeted, even by their own team, and honestly they tend to be too dumb to play well anyway. Real people would quit out as soon as they see a retarded incon on their team because at that point its basically an unwinnable game. And the higher skill ranks didnt have any micros to bully in them, so the toxicity quickly is back in full force.

To fix this, most games with anything resembling a competetive pvp scene introduce micro mode! Any incon is required to play in micro mode or get banned as soon as someone notices how pathetic it is. A micro doesn't take up a team slot any more, and its characters will be scaled down to 1/100th of the normal size. Its damage and health are scaled down accordingly as well. Naturally, a special mechanic is added where walking over a micro instantly kills it. This way, queuing into an incon cant really affect the game one way or another. Bullying an incon wont give any rewards in the match, but can give account xp and unlock skins, so most players will swat a bug if they see one.

Speaking of queuing, you lose the right to choose a queue in micro mode. You can only click play, and the game decides if you get put in a competetive lobby, a casual quickplay lobby, or the new most popular casual gamemode: the micro massacre. After it became a hit success, every game with any kind of pvp, even purely casual ones, added two variants of micro massacre. One where its a group racing to kill as many of a horde of micros as possible, most kills wins, and a hide-and-seek 1v1 gamemode where a real person hunts down a bug. Even scoring one point wins the match for the real person, and the match only ends when the real player gets bored. If the incon quits out, most games just issue a ban. But some games have bigger budgets and know the value of a promotional stunt.

Every so often, in the biggest pvp titles, an incon gets queued into a special hide and seek match. If the incon quits out or gets caught 100 times before the player quits, an employee shows up within the day, snatches the unlucky bug, and ships it to the player.

Of course a micro's owner can disable this option, but most owners dont care enough about their incons to bother. Theres a good chance they got it from a similar match themself after all.

I have a massive weakness for silly things like this- features in games and sites that specifically target micros are SUCH a fun concept that I fucking love...

Its not hard to see the issue. Even the absolute best micros are godawful compared to REAL players- and frankly, its an insult to even let them take up full player slots! Nothing seemed to fix this- but the implication of micro mode changes everything...

Booting up the same game, ready to play- spawning in as a tiny, miniscule thing, barely able to get around the map at such a tiny size- maybe the game just glitched? Speaking into the microphone when a player gets near, but all they hear is a tinny little squeak- walking over me and I'm instantly met with a game over screen....

The game makes tons of money doing this, of course! Streamers start flocking to it, holding special streams where they specifically try to kill as many micros as possible, their chats LOVE it- and the little notification of stepping on a micro is always a pleasant surprise! More and more games, regardless of genre, start adapting, adding their own micro modes....... the possibilities are endless~

Every micro lives in terror that some day even thinking about leaving a match will have them handed off by force to some mean, grubby neet~

Back when Ultimate first came out and I was streaming enough to have a schedule, for a while, I would play on Quickplay with Random characters on Monday, and then on Fridays I would just play as my main, which became known as "Iggy Friday". At one point I promo'd it with a picture of an iggy plush that just looked wonderful. Then I got the plush for myself and just kept Iggy Friday going.

I met my two best friends though quickplay in Overwatch back in its golden days. Overwatch is a match making service.

It really was. I met a lot of other friends and know a lot of other couples that met though the game as well. Fucking RIP to a legend :(

I have a bunch of unorganized thoughts about TF2 and here they are

1. TF2 is in a weird spot where it feels “Abandoned” despite having been given more support for much longer than most games

2. It was absolutely not planned for it to have as many content updates as it did. It was released during an era before consistent content updates were really a thing unless your game had a subscription model. You’d release a multiplayer game, maybe do a couple updates here and there to keep people buying, then move onto the next game you’re working on, and the games community would keep it alive with custom maps, gamemodes and whatever the hell else. With the absolute explosion of popularity that TF2 had, Valve decided to continually update it and slowly transition to the Free to Play model (Was actually one of the first games to have microtransactions and loot boxes.) Which has slowly become the model for most multiplayer games nowadays where developers will add content updates while making money off of microtransactions. 

3. There has been a gradual corrosion of the community’s involvement. Earlier in its life there were community servers, which could be moderated, but the introduction of Quickplay just about killed off most vanilla servers, as new players would be sent to big server farms that use advertisements in their MOTD and then roll the profits into buying more servers, which meant more revenue, and while the fanbase begged Valve to do something about this plugin so that they didn’t have an ad shoved in their face, Valve turned around and were publicly taken steps to support it. While this was happening, community servers without a specific draw to them like custom gamemodes were deprived of fresh players until they died out. I’ve had people tell me that quickplay was great, but I personally watched this happened. It absolutely boggles me, and my only possible explanation is that matchmaking is so bad that it made a button that would likely just put you in a skial server as its best case scenario seem good in comparison.

4. Most of TF2′s current big problems is caused by this, and I personally believe that abolishing any sort of matchmaking would fix this issue. Hackers? Moderators. Toxicity? Moderators. Lack of updates? Theres a whole world of community maps out there, and you can play more than just the 5 or so added twice, possibly three times a year. 

5. I hate the loss of the experience that community servers have. I cannot stress enough how big of a deal it was to be able to play with a specific group of people just by hopping on a server. Im having trouble putting into words the loss I feel now having every game always filled with strangers that I’ll likely never see again, instead of hopping on my server of choice and chatting with people who weren’t outright friends but familiar faces, like having a bar you frequent. I feel more isolated than ever now that the usual state of multiplayer games is wrangling what friends you already have  IF they have that game.

6. I can’t say for sure, but my guess is thats why people feel so disheartened about TF2 nowadays. Its a hollow experience compared to what it used to be and without the constant shot in the arm that updates serve to be, people are growing disillusioned. Even before CS:GO, CS 1.6 fans never complained about the lack of updates, and TF2 lost that foundation as it slowly changed into the modern games as a service model where if a game goes 1 month without an update its considered dead. 

7. I used to love Valve, like to a ridiculous degree. But then I saw them introduce pay for cosmetics in a game that already had a price tag. Then I saw them add lootboxes, which even back then I knew were predatory. Then I saw them try to monetanize mods (People roast bethesda for that but Valve had their hands in the cookie jar just as much). Yes they are a company, yes their main focus is profit, but they outright pioneered so much bad that now has become the horrible standard in the current industry.

Sometimes when I four stack in quickplay I say something so utterly weird that the same two people I've been playing with for the last 7 months are like what?

Last night our fourth is a play 1 Doomfist main and we queued into Busan.

I proceeded to say my normal I'll flex support into what we need ( because I'm just proficient in enough diverse support characters that I can) and decided Baptiste would have been the best luck for base.

Over discord our tank was like I don't know how I'm still alive I should have died by now and I said in my normal monotone voice you guys haven't seen me play Bap in a bit. After going back and forth on the point we pushed up on their high ground choke and I said ready to combo with those shotgun fists? And windowed the choke which earned us a team kill. We had city center for round 2 and it was just an absolute slaughter. I'll post my highlight under a cut of that match because unfortunately the replay code crashes OW.

We had eichenwalde defense and I went Ana and we full held first point. My other friends were dps and support and they went mercy echo which created a lot of space and had great picks. The other team eventually went sombra to pressure me which was unfortunate because I was really far back from the team. I missed a dart which ended up ending my life. But I got a Rez so it was all good. I died one more time to the same sombra switching to Genji and doing the same thing. Our pug dps was scared to shoot the genji which is fine. He basically traded 1-1 which was fine because we started out with a numbers advantage after I sniped their Ana.
