Did Van Zeiks just call Ryunosuke a slur⁉️
And correct me if I’m wrong, but is Ryu wearing Kazuma’s arm thingy? I’m gonna fucking cry.

The great ace attorney but kazuma goes to britain with his dad i think this has potential for such cool ideas (both super wholesome and super angsty honest, do you guys think barok wouldn't be a xenophobe in this au because of kazuma alone or do you think he'd start hating kazuma just the same, do you think baby kazuma would be kept under the dark as much as barok could or do you think he was one of the first to know? DO YOU GUYS THINK-)
look at em' bro... So young and happy!!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Do you think thats where kazuma got his stowaway idea from?
Ik mr asogi would probably try to hide kazuma but i like the idea of those three try to hide this one 8 year old by sneaking him through their rooms
Personally like to think kazuma was just too excited to even understand why they were so horrified when they saw him coming out from a suitcase

For the fandom hot take thing I've got two: The Death Penalty isn't really on the table for a great majority of AA cases, that's only really reserved for people who murdered at least three people (ie Dahlia) Due to the time period and drama and period typical sexism and such forth, Yujin was definitely priming for Susato and Kazuma to possibly get married in the future-- especially since he knows that the world isn't fair to girls like Susato (especially since there's a lot of opportunities that are kept from her SOLELY because she's a woman), and since there's no male Mikotoba heir, the next best thing would be to make sure she's set up for life with someone that is trustworthy and also respects HER as a person....... and Susato DEFINITELY had a baby crush on Kazuma that she was not subtle about due to being 6/7 XD
Hii! So, for the first one:
Strongly agree | Agree | Neutral | Disagree | Strongly disagree
So Ace Attorney first and foremost references Japanese justice system, and there is (as much as I know) death penalthy being practiced all way through (probably not for one murder, more likely serial killers will be punished too, afaik, murdering three people warrants the highest form of punishment).
But honestly? There are two things that make me lean towards considering death penalty as the most likely solution if someone's condemned. First of all, Ace Attorney's world is a caricature and it doesn't really have to perfectly mirror the real one. The second thing comes from that as AA is a very dramamtic series, and Phoenix being all dedicated to "save" people he defends in court is really in line with consideration that most of times this is a life or death situations. Aside from Dahlia the other examples that more vaguely imply: Adrian Andrew's situation in 2-4 being compared to Maya's deadly peril, so her situation is on more or less similar level of grave - if Phoenix indicts her as guilty, her life would be wasted. In 3-4 Terry Fawles was on a death row for supposedly killing Dahlia (well, he did some other bad things too like kidnapping etc). The other one is implications that at some point Morgan met Pearl for the last time in Japanese script, and Morgan even never killed anyone directly.
But what stops me to completely side with "Guilty verdict means death" opinion is how sometimes there is implied hope for the imprisoned? It was shown clearly in I2-2 with how Japanifornian prison, with all its faults, tries to rehabilitate people as members of society, inviting performers like Regina or assigning them to groom pets. This is a really positive aspect, and, adding to the fact that there are many sympathetic culprits in the series, you would want to think that there's some hope for them. So overall, there are some arguments in favor and against that, so I dunno
Now onto the Kazuma/Susato one
Strongly agree | Agree | Neutral | Disagree | Strongly disagree
Okay, this is a really controversial topic that probably may be repulsing from the modern Western perspective, but Mikotoba imagining Kazuma as a potential husband for Susato could really be the case. For a few reasons
There really was a Japanese tradition for sonless men from respectable families (Mikotobas were well off) to take in orphaned boys, adopt them (even giving them their family name!) and marry their daughters off to them to secure their lineage. Not 100% the situation with Yujin and Kazuma (it's unimaginable that Kazuma would change his name, he's tightly holding onto Asogi's legacy), but it's not unprecedented that basically adoptive siblings were expected to marry in some circumstances
About the sibling part: I do sincerely think that Kazuma and Susato's relationship are resembling of some sort of sibling bond (especialy post 2-5 when they all reconcile in the end) - cue the Japanese DLC case - but here's the nuance. Probably neither of them thought about their relationship in that way. They are not Miles and Franziska. Kazuma and Susato dynamic is a vast and deep topic and I have many thoughts about it, but now I wanna on;y say that 1) Kazuma, as much as he appreciated Susato's help and devotion, wasn't... fair to her, I think? In their relationship he probably always was a receiving party, and really really often he kinda subconciously dismissed her, preferring to be more open with his university friend whom he knew for a year instead. Adding the fact he was kinda distancing himself from Mikotobas already and didn't really view them as a family, he probably wouldn't call Susato his sister, and 2) Susato could view him as her honorary brother, but this does negate the "puppy crush" part as you said. It's probably more of a historical fiction thing, but really often "you're like a brother/sister to me" meant "i want to be with you forever". So the romantic feelings and appreciating someone as sibling really could intertwine, contrary to modern POV. Either way, the way Susato was dedicated to Kazuma's dream, shaping her profession and career path around him probably speaks in favor of her affection, whatever it could be - especially taking a risk of having a job in the sexist sociaty required really strong feelings from her. Maybe it could be the other way around and at some point Yujin saw Susato being that way to Kazuma and began to make wedding plans
Also Yujin would be really glad if his family and the family of his good friend were united
I don't actively ship Asosusa, but I think the implications that Kazuma and Susato were at some moment imagined to be a bride and groom has potential for angst. Especially considering they ended up crushing on the same boy

for the character ask: genshin asogi? 👀
Everything during canon happened because of the professor case... Heh, could say London really felt Genshin's Impact 🥁
How I feel about this character
Sorry Kazuma I have a lot of unholy thoughts about your dad
Haha but really I have a lot of conflicting hcs for him, like I imagine he was very serious and focused, but I also like imagining he was snarky and comedically strict about his opinions like Kazuma is (like why he wore the hackimaki in the first place or the over the top manner he talks about Karuma, etc). It's bittersweet when a character is soooo bare bones in canon, because sure I can imagine anything and it'll never be contradicted in canon! But also I want information!!! Tell me about them!!!!!
Anyway regardless of other traits I'm munching over, I always stick with he and Klint were genuinely extremely close, like Herlock&Yujin level, and they shared a joking mean humor in private like calling each other a twat over any little inconvenience
All the people I ship romantically with this character
His own wife haha, Klint, and Klint & Lady B
Kazuma has enough issues so his parents not really caring about each other doesn't do it for me. Legit tho it isn't compelling to me to think they were a loveless marriage, the only point to it I can remember being was she wasn't mentioned in his final letter, but there's bittersweetness to explaining that away as out of a sense of paranoia that it would be wishing ill on them so he had to stay quiet until he made his escape, which..we know how that went. I think them having a loving marriage also kinda ties up the original study students, with Genshin having a wife and child he's leaving, Yujin losing his wife but gaining a newborn he has to leave behind, and Jigoku not having a spouse or kids, and it mirroring each Londoner they attached to (Klint has a wife and a baby on the way by the end but loses both, Herlock loses Yujin but gains a newborn, and Stronghart never takes a family). Genshin can almost relate to Yujin too, their wives are no longer around and they have young kids back home, but he still was expected to be able to return to her one day, and his fate is so similar to Klint's, they both lose their wives and their kids end up losing their connection to the family & being taken in by someone else (iirc Kazuma is kind of cut off from the Asougi clan after they learn his dad died and was outted as "a killer"), those parallels work better if Genshin and his wife were mutual love.
Genklint had an insane unhinged yaoi ending like the homoeroticism of a duel to the death for the honor of your friend that fell so far but you still cared about him too much to leave him like that... when it would've been way smarter for them to team up and kill Stronghart then Genshin tell Klint "no more killing or istfg >:(" and that's that. I also love the mutual suffering that is Barok & Kazuma going back to the prosecutor's office after 2-5 and just staring into the room with the deepest eyebags and deadest expressions like "they definitely fucked in here"
Genklintville is just the ultimate version of genklint haha. It makes it all so much hotter AND tragic! And what more could we ask for from their canon endings
My non-romantic OTP for this character
Genshin & Yujin is a fun relationship I think about a lot. I wonder if they were both jealous of their respective British bestie for being able to get so much closer than they ever were with each other? Was Genshin the shoulder Yujin cried on during the boat trip to London and during the time before he met Herlock? Yujin went above and beyond to help Genshin when he was arrested, and maybe if Genshin listened to him on getting extradited he would've survived, but also Yujin cared so much for him to not only go to Lady B at his request but take Kazuma in once all the dust settled. Idk, I'm not sure I'd call them an OTP but they're a favorite non romantic dynamic for both characters
My unpopular opinion about this character
Ok so there was a post from a blog I love that used pixels from the games to determine character heights and deemed that Genshin was 6' tall based on that information, and I've seen a number of fics describe Genshin as very tall, and I vehemently disagree. Genshin was at most 5'10, taller than average and a tiny bit taller than Kazuma, but still noticeably shorter than Klint & Barok. I will die on this hill
One thing I wish would happen/ had happened with this character in canon
Lived haha but really I can't think of anything that wouldn't drastically change canon (him living, them killing Stronghart, him actually escaping, etc) that like is actually impactful for his role in the story. Not that I don't love AUs but I like leaving this all as my sandbox and not canon. I guess I wanna know his height so I can be correct that it's not 6' tall haha!

Thank you @sevarix-blogs for tagging me for wip wednesday!! It's technically Thursday as I post but anyone feel free to do this!
TGAA/DGS spoilers
This is from an AU about 14-year-old Kazuma and Genshin - Genshin comes home following the death of Klint, who was revealed to be the Professor, and he brings along Barok and his baby niece Iris to get them away from the backlash.
They walked the path to the front entrance, past the place where Kazuma had taken a photograph with his father six years ago, back when he carried a stick sword to try to be like his father. He had been a silly eight-year-old at the time, but now he was learning to use a real katana, after his father had given permission by letter for one of his old disciples to begin Kazuma’s training. If he worked hard, he would one day be worthy of inheriting the Asogi family’s ancestral sword, Karuma.
It was then Kazuma realized his father wasn’t wearing it.
“Father, where is—”
But Genshin didn’t hear him as he tried to hush little Iris and maneuver his packing case.

the cosmic turnabout is underrated af and always overshadowed by turnabout for tomorrow so i'm going to make a list of things that are awesome about it because it's my secret favourite case
it takes place in a SPACE CENTRE with ROCKETS. there are literally ASTRONAUTS. if you're a space enjoyer then this case has the greatest vibe and aesthetic and is made for you. the cutscene at the beginning is so space movie.
just the fact that the guy called apollo is best friends with an astronaut. i bet the localisation team were high fiving each other at how well that worked out
the bit when the judge asks what the bomb transport case is and simon's like "YOUR COFFIN >:D" lmao?????
and you already know from the first case that there's a dead body in there which makes it more cursed which makes it eVEN FUNNIER
actually the fact that this case is quite literally-speaking blown apart by a bomb and the two pieces fall either side of turnabout countdown... it's pretty creative, i know it's weird but i like it
junie gives apollo a raw lotus root and he just. eats it. he eats it raw. stuffs it straight in his mouth. cronch. i don't blame him tho like i don't think i'd be able to have brain cells either if my bestie had just been murdered
speaking of which, CLAY TERRAN IS SO FUCKING COOL I CAN'T EVEN BEGIN TO EXPLAIN????? everyone who knew him is always talking about how he was so cool and he loved life and living and apollo and he was always trying to cheer everyone up and make people feel better like an infectious ray of sunshine. he's named after the planet he never got to leave. he's like a mix of apollo and athena's personalities but as a hot astronaut. like if kazuma "i love my BFF" asogi wasn't an edgy emo badboy and was a cheerleader sunshine boy instead. dude is the actual goat and probably my fav victim in the entire series
like they had to kill him off to nerf him bc he would be too powerful otherwise, he's that perfect. he had the secondmost badass death (the most badass was... someone from turnabout revolution. if you know, you know) listen he took part in this cool badass switcharoo with the rockets to save him and sol from a bomb, then he carried a passed-out sol EVEN THOUGH THEY WERE BOTH IN THEIR HEAVY SPACESUITS, AND THEN DEFENDED THE HOPE CAPSULE FROM A SUPERSPY DESPITE BEING EXHAUSTED AND GETTING STABBED AND DYING AND HE SUCCEEDED EVEN THOUGH HE DIED
the original japanese title for this case is "the turnabout that became a star" in case you wanted to cry harder
his friendship with apollo makes me sob like a baby. apollo can barely deal with the grief and he even has the first of his breakdowns we ever see, and now i'm thinking about the backstory of how they met and all the optional dialogue you can get about the two of them and i could talk about how they're also a parallel to aura and metis (and how athena and sol have parallels regarding ptsd in their career fields) but you're not ready for it and it's another essay entirely
it's even mentioned how apollo and clay were competitive over who could achieve their dream first, and when apollo became a lawyer and showed his badge to clay, clay was so fricking happy about it as if he'd achieved his dream too, and supported apollo through the plot of the previous game behind the scenes and just... okay competitive-supportive friendship WHY DOES THAT ALSO REMIND ME OF APOLLO AND ATHENA? man she would be the perfect person to help apollo cope with the loss of clay... if he didn't, you know, suspect her of killing him
actually apollo losing faith in athena is so heavily foreshadowed in the previous case it makes me insane. also in TWO of the previous cases he brings up clay, in fact in turnabout academy he does it so much that athena pesters him about wanting to meet the guy herself so don't give me any of that "clay was never referenced before the case where he suddenly shows up dead" nonsense YES HE WAS and anyway we KNOW apollo hardly ever talks about his personal life at work, it literally becomes a plot point in the following game, so the fact that he rarely mentions clay makes it MORE personal to him imo okay rant over
actually in turnabout academy we find out apollo and clay have a psychic connection (i'm not kidding about this, this is canon) which means apollo probably sensed the exact moment clay got stabbed, i'm gonna die wtf
apollo having the bandage on his eye before the bombing is. chef's kiss. it's so mysterious and then we find out he did it to restrict his own powers so that he would stop doubting athena. i'm not crying i'm fine. and then he looks so badass later with the coat on and he even looks kinda like dhurke. i SAID i'm not crying shut up
apollo!!! leaving the office!!!!! i'm like 90% convinced he still lowkey hates phoenix tbh (this is more relevant in the next case but it does feel apparent here too) like remember in the previous game when he punched him lol?? i wonder if he wishes he could do that again
i've played this case a million times yet i always forget about the bomb going off in the middle of the trial, it's practically a jumpscare. i love it
also apollo and simon both taking the case so deathly seriously while everyone else is just like "haha funny buzz lightyear case" is also chef's kiss. that bit at the end when athena gets accused and suddenly everyone else starts taking it seriously too. it's one of the very rare cases where the canon ending is BAD auuugh i'm not sane enough for this
solomon starbuck talking about what it felt like to be in the HAT-1 is bloody terrifying. i will have nightmares about this scene
ALSO HE WAS CLAY'S FRIEND TOO I'M SMAD. CLAY KNEW ABOUT SOL'S ASTROPHOBIA AND SUPPORTED HIM AND LOOKED UP TO HIM ALL THE SAME. IMAGINE THIS LITTLE GUY STANS YOU AND EVENTUALLY BECOMES YOUR CO-ASTRONAUT AND THEN HE DIES AND YOU GET BLAMED FOR IT. CRYING SCREAMING ETC
yuri cosmos is funny. he's just a guy on a segway who has looney tunes powers. he would have been the incompetent sidekick of detective arme at the trial if she wasn't, you know, a corpse.
Athena Already Knew Ponco And Ponco Already Knew Her *whispers* they are so siblings
she even starts talking like ponco after just a little while of chatting??? god no wonder she couldn't tell the difference between robots and humans when she was a kid, i love her so much
and when you examine the boarding lounge with her, she strongly implies she would be an alienfucker or at least that she supports alienfuckers. i am not making this up i promi s e
AURA BLACKQUILL. 'NUFF SAID.
the plan with the launch pads switching around is wack and i'm actually obsessed with it. i'm picturing clay dragging drugged-up sol through the museum and sol's like "huh the rocket looks weeeeird.. .?" and clay's like "uhhhh nnnope haha, no it doesn't, it looks completely normal and fine, ignore all those exhibits on the walls-" jshfkskfsk
and athena was literally passed out in there in a random corner?? well we don't really find that out until the next case but still??? she was RIGHT THERE???
(i'm sorry i can't shut up about clay) it turns out clay also did the "i'm fine!!" early morning chords of steel exercises, so i imagine him and apollo waking up early every morning to voice call each other and do their i'm fine thing together. apollo cheering encouragement at clay while he's doing his astronaut training just like they used to with solomon. just stab me with a fork made of lava it would hurt less
also when apollo was in the hospital he adjusted his chords of steel workouts to be like "THANK U DOCTOR FOR TAKING CARE OF ME" that's so wholesome??? doesn't stop him ripping off all the bandages in the next case and probably bleeding out in court but whatever, i cannot expect him to be normal in these circumstances
you know how in the previous game, no one ever respects him and he's kinda a loser? well here he gets to do something undeniably BADASS, just like his badass astronaut bestie. he saves junie's life during the bombing. idk if it was a "i just lost my best friend, i'm not letting athena lose hers too" or just being a brave person who wants to protecc his friend or what but i'm just glad he finally gets to be cool in a way that no one can deny. and then the next game takes it to the next level with how badass he gets HOOOOOOO BOY
the bit where apollo is talking to clay about how he doesn't have a mum is supposed to be sad and it definitely is, but if you've played the previous game then it is also hysterical. yeah apollo it's not like you went to her concert or use one of her songs as your literal phone ringtone or anything lmaooooooo
this is by no means an exhaustive list and i've barely scratched the surface of how good this case is but trust me it's SO GOOD. it's understandable that it gets overshadowed considering it's basically the same case as turnabout for tomorrow which is the finale, but it holds up on its own too and i love it dearly. the only case that makes me more emo is frickin turnabout revolution, aka the most bonkers emotional case of all time, so that's saying something.
oH ALSO THE SECOND HALF OF COSMIC TURNABOUT TAKES PLACE ON MY BIRTHD-- *gets dragged offstage*

"And now, here it is, the main event! This blog proudly presents..."
Tumblr media
"'Big reveal' number 61! Yeet!"
...That works, I guess. 😄
So, as you may know if you're familiar with The Great Ace Attorney Chronicles games (which are spectacular, to say the least), two of the main characters, Defense Attorney Ryunosuke Naruhodo and Judicial Assistant Susato Mikotoba, are a force to be reckoned with when it comes to solving crimes, big or small, whether in Japan or the Great British Empire. Their relationship (which starts out being pretty rough, one might say) grows as the games' story progresses, but for the most part it remains a friendly/professional one.
One can't help but wonder, though -- will it eventually blossom into something more? This is never made explicit in either of the games, but it could be argued that they subtly hint at both of them eventually becoming the ancestors of Ryuichi Naruhodo, also known as the one and only Phoenix Wright.
In other words, I ship the two of them like a shipping maniac. 😅
So if, hypothetically, the two of them were to court each other, get married, and start a family (all in due time, of course), what would the birth of their first child be like? And for that matter, what would the child itself be like? One can only imagine the details of that glorious occasion: who would be there, what the atmosphere would be like, and what all might happen.
So I did.
The Great Ace Attorney Chronicles Semi-Spoilers Ahead
Tumblr media
As you can see, this unforgettable (hypothetical) moment shows the proud new parents, as well as their friends, the Great Detective Herlock Sholmes, and Kazuma Asogi, in his fancy Victorian-style Prosecutor outfit, laughing hysterically at the amazing discovery they all just made: the young Naruhodo is already a natural-born attorney! If you haven't figured why that is yet, here's a closer look:
Tumblr media
His pointing skill and technique is spot-on! Sure, he doesn't know how to say "Objection!" just yet, but...baby steps, as they say. 😉
While I didn't come up with a name or appearance for this newest member of the Naruhodo clan, the idea of him reacting to his surroundings in such an attorney-esque way was too heartwarming and adorable for me to resist drawing it, and of course I had to have at least a couple of their friends there to witness it along with them. As for why none of the others are there, we'll just say that Iris had school, Prosecutor van Zieks had legal business to tend to, and Susato's father was back home in Japan. Or, we could just say I didn't feel like drawing so many characters and leave it at that. 😏
You may have noticed that Susato and Ryunosuke's outfits are different from what we usually see them wearing in the games. I decided to have Susato wear a kimono decorated with the colors of a sunrise, symbolizing the beginning of her son's new life:
Tumblr media
The colors got a bit smudgy where I tried to merge them (red with orange and orange with yellow), but there's no easy way to fix that with colored pencils, so I decided it wasn't worth fussing over. 🤷‍♂️ Oh, and just to be clear, Susato is well over 16 in this picture. She strikes me as someone who looks like the same person as she ages, only bigger. 😊
Meanwhile, Ryunosuke is wearing a kimono gifted to him by his father-in-law, Yujin Mikotoba:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I imagine Dr. Mikotoba has at least two or three of those kimonos, anyway. 😊
As always, I used the official art from the games as a reference for the characters:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
And let me just say, much as I admire the ornate design of Sholmes's and Kazuma's outfits, trying to copy them with colored pencils is a pain. I probably would've finished the drawing much sooner if it wasn't for those pesky details. 😮‍💨
For Susato's closed eyes, I used her "happy" sprite:
Tumblr media
For Kazuma, I used his "laughing" sprite for his expression and his "arms crossed" sprite for his pose:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I also used a picture from his concept art to see what the back of his costume looked like:
Tumblr media
(Whew... All those details.)
I did a similar thing with Sholmes, using his "laughing" sprite for his expression and pose...
Tumblr media
...and his "turned around" sprite to get a good luck at his outfit from behind:
Tumblr media
And finally, the room they're in is at St. Bartholomew Hospital, a place visited by Ryunosuke and Susato during two of their cases:
Tumblr media
Not the best place to give birth to a child, maybe, but I imagine it holds some sentimental value to the parents. 😊
There were a few things I didn't get quite right, unfortunately -- Sholmes looks a bit small for someone in the foreground, Kazuma's head is turned to the left a bit more than I'd intended, and, well...
This is how the drawing looked before I tweaked it with GIMP:
Tumblr media
My colored pencil set didn't include quiiiiite the color I was looking for, so I ended up making all the Japanese characters look like the Simpsons. Thank God for modern-day image-editing software, am I right? 😄
Errors aside, however, I think this drawing might just be my favorite among them so far, or at least somewhere in the vicinity. The characters and their expressions were fun to draw, the mood is a joyful one, and the humor of the moment is hard not to at least smile at (for me, at least). I hope your heart was warmed by it in some way as well. 😌
Allow me to end this with a quote I found on one of my late Grandmama's decorations: "A baby is God's way of saying, 'The world should go on.'" That might not be the exact quote, but you get the idea. 😉

Note
hypothetical situation. for reasons that we do not actually care about, you find yourself in the position of needing to be primary caregiver of a six-month-old child for two weeks. the child's parents are not around but not in danger, but you may not hand the child off to someone else, you must take care of them yourself for two weeks. you may involve others, so long as you are the primary caregiver.
so, what's the game plan?
Only two weeks? I assure you, two weeks with a six-month-old is no time at all in comparison to the many months I have spent baby-sitting my apprentice. A two-year old would surely be more manageable than a vengeful, amnesiac Nipponese man with little regard for his own life; at the very least, I could easily pick up the child in the event that they became too unruly.
Now, it would hardly be suitable to expose a toddler to the dangers of my everyday life. Yet, if leaving the child with someone else is not an option, I suppose I would have no choice but to bring it with me to court. Asogi could be tasked with overseeing the child's comfort and safety while I performed my prosecutorial duties. Although it may be the case that he regularly acts contrary to my direct orders, I'm quite sure he wouldn't abandon a toddler just to spite me, and I have full faith in his capabilities as a swordsman if it were to come to that.
