another one of those random bullshit multiple drawings pages; they're pretty fun to make, it's like stream of consciousness in visual form. here an attempt to make velkhana palamute canon to my mh oc's lore because I've been playing monster hunter stories 2 lately
#monster hunter#original character#mizutsune#velkhana#me writing the text like 'how do i make it not sound like stupid people on internet kidnapping and imprinting wildlife'#and actually whatever on that its just fiction anyway. shrug#that one npc has baby tetsucabra i can have smol velkhana. smolkhana

I encounted "The Tetsucabra" today while playing Monster Hunter: Generations Ultimate.
They gotta bring my boy back in the next one. Tetsucabra and Zamtrios (and I guess Dodogama to a similar extent?) are a real fun archetype/skeleton/whatever-you-wanna-call-it and I miss 'em dearly.
I remember hearing about one of the artbooks going into more detail about their ecology (which is a big reason why I wish the artbooks would get localized outside Japan) & talking about how the father will carry the eggs & newborns around in its mouth for protection and transportation. I love that. Big ol' frog with a mouth fulla babies. It's like when some dogs hold an egg so gently in their mouths.
Dogs don't really lay eggs, I guess.

You can really tell neither the lead actress nor husband had played the games straight up from the trailer. Where's the heart!? The Passion!? From what I can see, there's like... three monsters total. None of which are represented correctly! Rathalos may be the series flagship monster, but he is literally just the monster who normally signifies that you aren't in baby quests anymore and are high rank now, he shouldn't be OP nor the main villain, that should have been one of the OG Elder Dragons like Kushala, Chameleos (holy shit that would actually be awesome), or Toestra. Maybe even Fatalis if they wanted to REALLY draw a crowd.
Since it takes place around World than maybe market the actual product you're basing the movie on. Monster Hunter isn't about JUST fighting monsters. It's so much deeper! It's the balance between man and nature, the struggle of survival when you live in a world full of such large predators, community and fellowship only found when you're whiles on your final cart while fighting the final boss and Proof of a Hero starts playing! It's joy and whimsy and the beauty of nature that can be found in any and all environments! Where's the joy!? The bond between hunters!? The careful dance between hunter and monster!? Heck, this was meant to hype up WORLD specifically, and absolutely nothing that can be seen in world is present in there except a few characters, some familiar monsters, and the Chef!
Speaking of, that guy's cooking scene is my favorite. Wanna know why? It's the only thing that felt like MONSTER HUNTER! The utter goofiness of the series where you're fighting a giant rock baby that has armor that can't be pierced and the baby can spit lava at you, put you to sleep, poison you, make you explode, and then crush you by rolling over on its back with a pair of tiny knives. Where your partner is a walking, talking cat. Where you look at a literal god and go "I'm a jump on that things back and stab it a bunch before bonking it on the head with a giant teddy bead three times my size" and actually do it. One of the scariest and most dangerous monsters is a tiny pony known for its gentle demeanor. Where half the fun is being ragdolled! Where Nercylla babysat baby Tetsucabra because they are in a symbiotic relationship. Where Zinogre has literal electric fleas acting as it main source of defense.
Not in the movie about the USA fighting giant monsters.
Sorry for ranting on an old post it just makes me mad everytime
Just watched Monster Hunter (2020) movie and I was nerding but also a bit annoyed.
It literally an Isekai plot, but with US military instead of average people
Artemis is a real jerk. You don't know where you are lady! Stop fighting everyone who gets you somewhere safe! The Hunter was a cooler character all around, but I guess the director wanted the focus on his wife. \ :| /
Rathalos is way more powerful than it actually is in the games. Mf wipes out a whole squad of us army, while in the games they can get wrecked by a guy with a insect glaive. They could have made it a twist that the Rathalos was Apex/frenzied, or be put out of commision by something scarier... like a Seregios or an elder dragon like Dah'Ren Mohran.
Half expected the MC to say "I worked for the Umbrella Corporation". Really should of gotten a dif director. Mila is an ok actress, but please don't have her husband direct. I liked the first 3 Resident Evil movies, but you dont have to latch onto another Capcom project to keep in business.
The MH:World characters only show up for a bit and they really should have been more ready for a monster as common as a Rathalos. Loved the Chef.
The Hunter didn't do the song when he was cooking.
Ends on a cliff-hanger with a Gore Magala (my fave monster), and I just know they wont do it justice if a sequel ever happens.
I'm gonna play MH:World with my isekai oc to blow off steam
