Orthodontic Treatment
Orthodontics is the branch of dentistry that corrects teeth and jaws that are positioned improperly. Crooked teeth and teeth that do not fit together correctly are harder to keep clean, are at risk of being lost early due to tooth decay and periodontal disease, and cause extra stress on the chewing muscles that can lead to headaches, TMJ syndrome and neck, shoulder and back pain. Teeth that are crooked or not in the right place can also detract from one’s appearance. Many different types of appliances, both fixed and removable, are used to help move teeth, retrain muscles and affect the growth of the jaws. These appliances work by placing gentle pressure on the teeth and jaws. The severity of the problem determines which orthodontic approach will be most effective. The available treatment options are listed below:
Braces
Special fixed appliances used to control thumb-sucking or tongue-thrusting, these appliances are attached to the teeth by bands. Because they are very uncomfortable during meals, they should be used only as a last resort.
Fixed space maintainers are used if a baby tooth is lost prematurely, a space maintainer is used to keep the space open until the permanent tooth erupts. A band is attached to the tooth next to the empty space, and a wire is extended to the tooth on the other side of the space.
Other Treatments
The Department of Dentistry also offers several other services as listed below:
Silver Fillings: To fill in the tooth area that was removed in order to prevent further decay and strengthen the affected tooth.
Oral Prophylaxis is essential at least once every six months for all individuals in order to maintain the overall health of the oral cavity. It involves the removal of plaque, tartar, and stains which accumulate over a period of time.

GIFT MILK an initiative by Prayaas Corps
Milk is the most consumed product in the world. It is taken by almost every person of this planet either in a form of a drink or by consuming one of its derived products. Milk is one of the traditional sources of protein in the world. But, the benefits of milk do not end here. There are countless other benefits of drinking milk. That is why, milk is considered as a perfect food. Scientifically proven, milk is of the best solution to cure malnutrition. Even then, why a country like India where production of milk is whooping 155 million tones and per capita availability is 350 gm per day, faces the most cases of malnutrition? Why the majority of poor people are deprived of this nectar?
Milk does not only come from cows. Milk from animals like sheep, goat, camel etc. is also available in the market. In various parts of the world, goats, reindeer, donkeys, yaks, water buffalo, and sheep are domesticated and milked. However, in most countries, cows are the primary milk producing animals. Apart from proteins, milk contains carbohydrates, fats, minerals and vitamins in the ratio in which they are needed for the proper development of the body. This is why it best suit; babies and the sick.
There is large number of benefits of drinking milk on a regular basis. Milk contains calcium. Newly born babies are fed on mother's milk. It helps in the formation of bones. Next to mother's milk, is cow's milk. Milk provide increased bone strength, smoother skin, stronger immune system, prevention of illnesses such as hypertension, dental decay, dehydration, respiratory problems, obesity, osteoporosis and even some forms of cancer. It also helps in curing some chronic diseases etc. It is an ideal source of nutrients such as vitaminA, B12, VitaminD, calcium, carbohydrates, phosphorous, selenium, magnesium, protein, zinc and riboflavin. Milk is used to neutralize the cholesterol content of the body.
The health benefits of milk can be achieved from drinking it directly or by consuming dairy products such as cheese, butter, curd, clarified butter or ghee, dairy whitener, ice cream, cottage cheese or paneer, flavored milk, or milk sweets
The deficiency of milk poses very high health risks. If a baby is deprived of milk, his bones will not be strong enough to lift him and baby will be venerable to fracture. It also causes weakening of teeth, cancer problems, weak immune system making a person easy prey to diseases, early aging, asthma etc. All these factors cause premature death. One solution is to use alternative sources which can provide these minerals and vitamins. But, a think to ponder is that in a country like India where most people are poor enough to buy milk, how can they have other alternatives? Hence most poor people in India are weak both physically and mentally and children face malnutrition which in most of the cases cost them their lives.
One of the major reasons of unavailability of milk to poor is the exponential increase of prices. Milk has now become a business and their masters have created a monarchy rule on the prices. In most of the shops, milk is sold above MRP and we never bother about it because a rupee or two does not create an issue for us. But, for a person who is earning 200 a day and has 3-4 persons to feed, buying sufficient milk for him is a luxury. Hence, he prefers to buy a little or no milk which creates a viscous cycle filled with health problems.
One think government can do is to subsidize milk for poor but till now there have been no visible step from government side to tackle this issue. Most likely, we will hear about it in upcoming Lok Sabha election speeches of 2019.
PRAYAAS CORPS realized the urgency to halt the exponential increase in malnutrition cases and importance of milk in eliminating malnutrition. Therefore, PRAYAAS CORPS started an initiative “GIFT MILK” with an aim to provide milk to children in slums. The first phase of this which was organized on the Jawahar circle in Jaipur (Rajasthan, India) which was an enormous success with 235 children were given a glass of milk. The phase two will be organized soon enough within a month or two and this time a glass of milk will be distributed along with a banana. It is too easy to just sit on chair and think that a glass of milk per person. What’s a big deal about this? But, it a whole other level to show your concern, step forward, raise your voice, organize and supply the quantity to 200+ children. For this, Prayaas Corps whole heartedly deserve a big round of applause and a standing ovation.
It is also true that no matter how great an NGO is, it cannot work efficiently without the support of the people. This is where our role comes into play. We cannot organize such initiatives because of our busy schedule but we can play our part by giving donation for such noble cause. To all the people who share this feeling with Prayaas Corps, contribute your part, even a single penny or Rs 5,10 etc. shall serve a great purpose. Every penny matters. You can also donate Rs 270 to sponsor milk for children for a day. On doing this your name will appear on our website. Contribute your part in a fight against malnutrition and let’s together make India healthy.
