it’s so ironic to me that, outside of the kiss, ivan is one of the only people in the main cast to really Play The Game properly. like: mizi and sua sing a duet together instead of trying to beat one another, till takes over the song so thoroughly that he doesn’t let acorn sing even once, luka is clearly biased through his already-established rabid fanbase on top of all the psychological mind game bullshit he pulls on stage. even hyuna breaks out of the show entirely, singing her own show for her own purposes, to an audience of her choosing.

ivan sings his first round the way it’s supposed to go, allows his opponent a sufficient chance to try and prove himself, and kicks his ass the proper way. 90 to 68. he performs as he was trained to, dresses and models as he’s expected to, smiles when he’s told to. he sings from his heart, but in the form of something palatable for the audience, not as severe or personal as nowhere though deep enough to still be compelling. he’s top of his class. he’s the beloved fan favorite. he stands up to each and every expectation.

and then the second he breaks out of that, he’s killed. the minute he fails to perform as he has been dictated to, he is shot to death. a violation of convention is punishable by execution. shattering the character costs him his life. he is not allowed to exist outside of the standards that are set for him. the public facing persona is the only face he is permitted to wear.

till can fight back. he’ll get his ass beat, but they won’t kill him. not while he’s still profitable. ironically, for him, it is through playing the round the way that he’s supposed to that he loses his edge. he can live up to expectations by existing outside of what’s acceptable, rabid and feral, chained and collared but artistically free.

mizi can bend the rules. she can sing the duet she’s always dreamed of, protected by the sweet innocence of a feminine naïveté, and come out of it with a winning score next to her dead lover. she can escape from the stage and fight her way back in only when she’s ready. she can tackle her opponent to the ground. she can forge her own path.

ivan is intimately aware of exactly when and where he is able to rebel. he can take off till’s collar, walk away from their false eden, and sneak into the darkness when the floral eyes aren’t watching. yet he cannot move as soon as the spotlight hits him. ultimately, he has no real agency. knowledge of how to escape, how to calmly stick your head in the drooling mouth of the beast, is not enough on its own. he can’t act out once he’s on camera. he must keep doing what he’s told. he knows too much, and he can’t do anything about it. he needs the shock of a melodramatic sacrifice to roll the globe of expectations off his back. he needs the force of a kiss to get the eyes that he wants.

Yeah, so while I was on my "I'm going to read into Vanny/Vanessa as much as possible" journey, I noticed an odd quirk in her animations in how she moves. At first, I thought it reminded me of a ballerina, 'cause she's kinda tip-toeing, & she has this way of keeping her head & chest in one place as she moves, but I looked again & realized --

That's not ballet! She's doing a tight-rope act. Like, look at this one:

This is like standing up on the wooden boards before you do the actual tight-rope walking, & the ring leader is hyping you up as you do some fun movement for the crowds. &, then, these:

These are all instances where she walks with one foot directly in front of the other. In that third, she's doing the "woaaah" wiggly-ass balance movements & everything, as if she's swaying up at the top of the tent, even though she's down on solid ground.

Idk, I feel like the way her feet are placed isn't accurate (pretty sure they should be pointed left & right, not both forwards...) doesn't make this 100% correct, but I like it. It also connects back with her first SB teaser, wherein she's up in the rafters.

Hi Amie! I’m looking to start storyboarding and I wanted to ask you how should I start? I use Clip Studio and I was wondering how to do so like a professional. Thank you!

i always suggest starting by studying your favorite films and shows! watch them alone or with people that are cool with pausing a bunch lol and just roughly draw the shots you see and try to understand why the director chose to shoot them that way. all that matters when it comes to boarding is that your choices are clear and convey your vision, not so much how clean and detailed they are.

my process for actually starting a board project is printing a script, taking blank sheets of paper, or going to a blank canvas on procreate and scribbling out stick figures and ground planes in rectangles to get my rough ideas out there. then i'll go to storyboard pro and actually start boarding.

i've never used csp for storyboarding so i unfortunately cant help you there (i imagine it's similar to boarding on photoshop, but i also have never done that LMAO), but storyboard pro is the industry standard and super easy to use! if you're a student, toom boom gives you a discount or you can pirate it idc lol

I'm back from my trip! 🥰

It went very well even though I was mute as Ariel 😂 (My throat really chose the best moment to get sick lol). I got to meet a new city I had never visited before and also went to some famous places, and in the meantime I managed to buy a few new books (the bookstore was way too close to the hotel... not my fault 😂). And also some Mario merch that I'll show you soon! 💖

I know I have a bunch of notifs to check, but I'm so tired and my feet hurt so much that I just feel like doing literally nothing for the rest of today 😂 So I'll start catching up with everything later or maybe tomorrow.

Hey everyone, sorry for the silence! I’m in consulting and have sadly been stuck working crazy hours since I got promoted in October

I also got married 2 weeks ago (!!) so I have not had much free time to write on the weekends either. It was 3 separate days of ceremonies and a lot of fun, but I’ll be happy to never do anything like that ever again

I actually just got back and started some edits for an additional branch in the last chapter (staying in alone instead of going out with everyone else). Chapter 8 is also about 30% done according to my outline, although it’s been a hot minute since I’ve been in there

Sorry for the lack of communication. For me, the longer I go without progress, the more pressure I feel to have ✨huge news✨ and a definite date for new content before I post anything at all again. I know it’s frustrating when authors drop off the face of the earth, apologies 💗

Tentatively, I hope to finish up the next chapter by the end of July 🤞
