Traveling with a Baby: Tips for Selecting the Best Travel-Friendly Stroller
Traveling with a baby can be a daunting task, but it doesn't have to be. With the right planning and preparation, you can make your trip enjoyable for everyone involved. One of the most important things to consider when traveling with a baby is a stroller. A good travel stroller will make getting around easier and more comfortable for both you and your baby.
Tumblr media
When choosing a travel stroller, there are a few things you'll want to keep in mind:
Size and weight. A travel stroller should be lightweight and easy to fold up, so you can easily transport it in your car or on public transportation.
Features. Look for a stroller with features that will make your life easier, such as a sun canopy, storage basket, and reclining seat.
Comfort. Your baby will be spending a lot of time in the stroller, so it's important to choose one that is comfortable for them. Look for a stroller with a padded seat and adjustable handlebar.
Price. Travel strollers can range in price from a few hundred dollars to over a thousand dollars. Set a budget before you start shopping so you don't overspend.
Once you've considered all of these factors, you'll be able to narrow down your choices and find the best travel stroller for your needs. Here are a few of our top picks:
Baby Jogger City Mini GT2. The Baby Jogger City Mini GT2 is a great all-around travel stroller. It's lightweight, easy to fold, and has a variety of features that make it perfect for travel, such as a sun canopy, storage basket, and reclining seat.
Graco LiteRider LX. The Graco LiteRider LX is another great option for a travel stroller. It's affordable, lightweight, and easy to fold. It also has a number of features that make it comfortable for your baby, such as a padded seat and adjustable handlebar.
Chicco Bravo Trio Travel System. The Chicco Bravo Trio Travel System is a great option if you're looking for a travel stroller that can also be used as a car seat. It comes with a car seat base, so you can easily transfer your baby from the stroller to the car.
No matter which travel stroller you choose, make sure to test it out before you buy it. Take it for a walk around the block or through the store to make sure it's comfortable for you and your baby. With the right travel stroller, traveling with a baby can be a breeze.
Here are some additional tips for traveling with a baby:
Pack light. The less you have to carry, the easier it will be to get around with a baby.
Bring snacks and drinks. You don't want to have to stop for food every time your baby gets hungry or thirsty.
Bring a change of clothes. Accidents happen, so it's always a good idea to be prepared.
Bring a stroller cover. This will protect your baby from the sun and wind.
Bring a sun hat and sunglasses for your baby.
Bring a first-aid kit.
Bring a portable playmat. This will give your baby a place to play when you're on the go.
Bring a baby carrier. This is a great way to have your hands free while you're traveling.
With a little planning and preparation, you can make traveling with a baby a fun and enjoyable experience.
Sure, here are some additional tips for traveling with a baby:
Choose your destination wisely. Some destinations are more baby-friendly than others. Consider the climate, the availability of childcare, and the transportation options when choosing a place to travel with your baby.
Book your accommodations in advance. This will ensure that you have a place to stay that is baby-friendly and that has all of the amenities you need.
Let your travel companions know you are traveling with a baby. This will give them a heads up and allow them to plan accordingly.
Be flexible. Things don't always go according to plan when you're traveling with a baby. Be prepared to change your itinerary or make adjustments as needed.
Take breaks. Traveling with a baby can be tiring. Make sure to take breaks throughout the day to rest and recharge.
Enjoy yourself! Traveling with a baby can be a great experience. Make sure to relax and have fun.
Here are some additional tips for choosing a travel stroller:
Consider your baby's age and needs. If you have a young baby, you'll need a stroller that can recline. If you have an older baby, you may want a stroller with a larger storage basket.
Think about your lifestyle. If you plan on doing a lot of walking, you'll need a stroller that is lightweight and easy to maneuver. If you plan on taking public transportation, you'll need a stroller that is foldable.
Read reviews. This is a great way to get feedback from other parents about different strollers.
Test drive strollers before you buy them. This is the best way to make sure that a stroller is right for you and your baby.
With a little planning and preparation, you can make traveling with a baby a fun and enjoyable experience.

Hampton Court Flower Show
Although I really hate gardening... I really love flower shows. We have been to them in Christchurch with Lynnette and Rick, and the Auckland one with Bren. When Mary said she had the opportunity to get tickets for the second day of the Hampton Court show, both Chris and I were delighted. We planned our trip around this date
The day dawned bright and clear with a slight wind. We had a leisurely start, waiting for the bus run to be completed, then headed to the flat at Wimbledon, where we would leave the car for the day. From there, we took the train to the Hampton Court station. We decided to take the boat to the gate to save 15 min walk. Chris can now say he’s been on the Thames!
People were streaming into the site by boat and foot. Pink was the colour of the day. With tents and everything official in what we in Nz would call breast cancer pink!!
Mary and Chris A went their was and Chris W and I headed through the throngs to look at the displays.
The show was set out over 25ha with waterway in between. There was a natural flow to the area which made it relatively easy to get around and see the stalls and displays. However, if I never see one of those plastic cube trundles again it will be far too soon!! You took your ankles and live at risk every time you moved!!
The first tent we went into was the roses. Wow - packed with amazing roses and shoulder to shoulder with hot people!! I was given a David Austin catalogue. Not that I’ll be buying roses any time soon but one can dream...
We got out of the rose tent quickly and headed over the bridge, nice and orderly- to the left those going over one side, right side those returning.
We had an ice cream because Chris W had the start of a migraine and it helped cool his head. He was able to see after about 20 minutes!! Interesting photos taken in this state!!
Around the stalls, everything from gloves for little people to equestrian gear. Know you’re in England now .. I do like the cut of the jackets.
We came across a cheese stall ... yum. Wensleydale cheese with lemon and honey, mature cheddar and cheddar with mustard and beer. Guess what we carted around for the rest of the day. The cheeses were about 5 cm round by the same deep. Having eaten the aged cheddar with dinner tonight, I can tell you it was worth the effort... thanks CW!!! Lol 😂
The largest tent held all sorts of amazing flowers, cactus, and plants. Right inside were the gladdies... I want them ... will be checking out the catalogue with anticipation! The sweet peas ohh was tempted to buy a mixed packet but really don’t want to even think about customs on the way home!! Then there were the tuberous begonias and the LIlies ... did I happen to mention that I actually hate gardening??? Oh yeah I did ...
The Bonzai trees were a wonder ... patience, foresight, inspiration, confidence and... green fingers - non of which I have!! What truly got me gobsmacked was the “weeds” they were selling .... this is the stuff I grow well until Beachy looks, takes a deep breath, and says, nope it’s a weed!!!! Apparently wild woodland was the theme... taken to heart by most of the displays.
Outside in the trade areas were lots of different styles glass houses and gazebos. I didn’t think English suburbs had enough room in their back yard for these. Some were rustic, others Mediterranean and others just plain weird.
Highlight of this area was the wee electric mower that mowed each day... all by its self.. using algorithms and strategically placed wires. Yeah... naaa!!
Into the country style tent with all the goodies for sale. Everything from fresh water pearls to old maps, scarves to Yorkshire woollen coats ... Lisa would have loved the orange plaid one. I bought a necklace to replace my pretty glass one that broke when I knocked it off the dresser in Brugges.
Message sent to Mary that we were sitting outside the pavilion with a cold drink. She joined us and we continued our wander after a well earned sit. Chris found Pork scratching ... phew hot and spicy.. I found mince square .. there were all sorts of pies but they were cold. The mince square, aka fly cemetery for Coasters, was beautifully flavoured but in a short crust. Good but I make better lol 😂
On we wandered. There were several cheese stalls but we had enough and didn’t want to be tempted. Dodging prams, people with wire supports for plants, bloody cubes, zimmerframes, motorised chairs and baby buggies, it was a trail for any saint. I found I got very sarcastic when yet another bloody cube tried to run me over or decapitate my ankles!!!
We finally, about 4.45, decided enuf was enough and headed to find a seat and a drink. We messaged Chris A to say there was a beer for him ... London Pride... if he could find us... good lad, within minutes he appeared and we commandeered a picnic table. Major accomplishment by Mary because the place was packed. Two beers, Pimms and a wine later, we were almost human and ready to launch out on the last leg towards the gate.
A noticeable thing was the number and variety of gins stalls. Not being a gun drinker this didn’t appeal .. also Pimms.. which I do like and did have one... only one at £7!!! It was lovely and cold and I rinsed our the cup with water to get thoroughly hydrated.
We decided to walk to the train station and have a quick look at the castle. Wow huge place it goes on forever... CW said he would have got bored as a bricky because the buildings were so big.
Mary was keeping tabs on the cricket ... shame the NZers playing weren’t as conscientious.....
Chris wandered out the gate, heading the wrong direction and I called to him.. two ‘Bobbies’ were standing there and asked if they could help him .... No thanks I’m just a lost Kiwi.... just like the cricket team... the bobbies were very polite and didn’t rub it in.
Onto a 10 carriage train back to Wimbledon to the car and home. Very weary travellers.
CA and Mary put together a wonderful cold collation, shrimps, salmon, ham, salad, cheeses, bread and crackers. What a feast. Mary and I had a lovely bubbly and an early night... after a little tennis watching.... was had!!

PRAM REVIEW
Full disclosure I was offered a Cybex pram and capsule to test out and review. But, like a lot of things like this, I only write about it or take it if it’s something I actually think is good. Before I said yes, I did some research to compare it to other prams I’d been looking at, read up about it and decided that I would love to try the Cybex - but I said that I would write an honest review because I’m not into lying to get free stuff. During my research cause I’m Sharanoia I read up on the safety tests it’d been through, and at the same time, saw that the Beckhams and Gwen Stefani are fans and again further proof that Posh Spice and I were meant to be best friends! The colour range on offer was really cool so I was stoked I could choose something fun  & different – I went with a orangey red and I love it!  In my opinion, the Cybex Priam and Cloud Q capsule were great decisions!
Let me break down the questions I wanted answered and how I think it fits the bill: Easy to set up? It was super easy, everything just clicked in, you don’t even need to look at the instructions.  Does the capsule click into the car and pram? Yes! You don’t need to work out somehow to move a sleeping baby from pram to car seat. The capsule clicks off the pram and into the car easily either into a base or you can secure it with a seat belt too. Can baby sleep comfortably? This is my fave part about the capsule. If your baby has fallen asleep, once you take the capsule out of the car,  you can recline it  into the pram or wherever you put it, into a flat lie down position so it’s safe and comfy for your baby to finish their nap in. (Seriously check out this video to see how good it is https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ry4P4xKS-7Q ) Is it easy to lift? I had to have a C-section so I wasn’t able to lift the pram for the first 6 weeks but the one thing everyone else remarked on was how light it was to get in and out of the car or up and down the stairs. Can I take it off foot path walks? Grass, Gravel, concrete. Whatever we have pushed it across, it’s wheeled through with ease so far. Is it easy to collapse? This was the bit I struggled with, I couldn’t figure it out at first but there are heaps of good, instructional videos online so after watching one of those I knew how to do it and it’s smooth and easy to fold up and put away.
How long will it last? The capsule will last me up to 18 months. It has an insert for new born and bigger babies so once he’s outgrown that, I can simply click in the seat option and it’ll last for years! Other things I love: - There are great colour options - The capsule has a bit on the side that you pull out that protects it when you’re in the car in case there is a car accident - It’s light to push - It’s comfy for baby! We haven’t had a tantrum in there yet! I’ve probably jinxed it now… - There is an awesome shade that pulls over quite far so that baby is fully covered. If you’re looking for a pram, I would highly recommend the Cybex Priam and the Cloud Q. We’re really happy with the choice we made and if you wanna have a gawk too, check them out here: http://cybex-online.com/nz

These gifts may comprise of the baby clothes, prams, strollers, baby high-chairs, onesies, toys, bath time accessories, blankets, etc.
The more experience you have, the more mindful gift you will give to the expecting couples. However, it does not mean that you can’t give useful gift to the expecting parents if you are attending the baby shower for the first time.
Before giving Baby Gift Wellington on the baby shower, you need to understand the choice and liking of the expecting parents.
If you will consider these things before giving a gift to the expecting couples, then it will help improve your friendship with the couple. Also, it will actually help them in getting something useful.
Now, we will tell you 3 tips that will help you in selecting the best possible baby shower gifts. These are:
1. Consider the items that are useful for the newborn and the parents:
The most important thing that you must consider is the usefulness of the gift for the newborn and parents. It must be suitable for the expecting parents and the baby.
Gifts like jumpsuits, blankets, bibs, onesies, etc. can be carried to the baby shower. Some other items like the face and butt wipes, diaper bags, baby shampoo, baby soaps, etc., are some of the gifts that will be immediately useful by the parents of the newborn.
2. Customize the Gift:
If you and the expecting parents share a special friendship, then you can also go for a customized Baby Gift Christchurch. This would be the perfect gift for a baby shower as it would be remembered by the expecting parents for a very long time.
If they have already chosen the name of the baby, then you may give them the name printed t-shirts, blankets, towels, etc.
One more thing that you can do is that you can try printing a portrait of the expecting parents on the clothes of the baby and thus making it a memento for the yet unborn baby.
3. Don’t buy anything very big and heavy:
Some of the people giving something big such as a big stuffed toy is good, but giving such gifts creates a problem for the expecting parents and it also becomes risky for the baby to play with.
The ideal baby shower gift is uncomplicated, non-threatening, baby-proof and must be easy to use for the baby

Startup Watch: Tree Hut Village
Founders: Eva Wintersberger and Tom Brown HQ: Melbourne, Australia
Tell us about your business.
Tree Hut Village offers families the opportunity to securely, quickly and easily search, browse, borrow and lend baby equipment. It directly connects families across the Tasman who are not using their baby gear such as prams, capsules, cots and cars seats with those looking to borrow.
For those travelling, they can conveniently hire baby equipment locally, removing the need to cart around bulky, heavy baby gear. For those lending their unused baby equipment, they can list their baby gear for free and earn some extra money.
The name Tree Hut Village comes from our desire to enable communities to support each other in a mutually beneficial way and to make hiring safe, high quality baby gear accessible to everyone.
Even though Tom is originally from Auckland and I am an NZ resident we decided to launch first in Australia. With listings already in six states and most major cities in Australia, Tree Hut Village is a win-win for all families. New Zealand has been enabled recently and we’re currently growing the NZ user base.
Who and where are your target customers?
Our main target group is predominantly females aged 25-44 who like travelling overseas with their families. The other (supply) side of the business is usually also young families with small children who would like to boost their income from time to time.
Tree Hut Village allows parents to rent out their surplus baby gear.
How and when did you first come up with the idea for your business?
The inspiration came to us after two different scenarios. The first was when we were looking for baby equipment for our visiting niece and thought that hiring should be easier and more affordable.
The second was after we went on holiday to the Whitsundays with our then four month old baby boy, Max. We wanted to avoid the hassle of travelling with lots of baby gear such as prams and travel cots. After searching online, we ended up hiring from a local family.
We connected online and loved that our $30 would go to a local family. It was this that sparked our desire to create something that provides families with the opportunity to travel more easily and also allow families to earn a bit on the side with no capital outlay.
What are your three biggest unique selling points?
We enable parents to make money off stuff they already have at home.
We enable parents to travel more easily.
We reduce the amount of baby equipment going to landfills.
What are three things about your business that you are proud of?
Having grown to 2,000 users within 6 months from the official launch.
All our transactions are insured (most traditional baby hire places are not).
Winning “Digital Innovation” at the Ausmumpreneur Awards in 2017.
How do you market your business and what advice do you have for others around marketing?
We do a lot over social media which is where our target group predominantly hangs out. We benefited a lot from PR opportunities as well (e.g. Kidspot and Startup Daily).
What’s been the biggest challenge you’ve faced in building your business so far?
It’s about connecting with the right partners and investing in quality. Making sure every dollar spent has a tangible ROI and the availability of key staff.
What is the biggest entrepreneur lesson you would like to share with other Kiwis thinking of starting their own business?
Be frugal in the beginning but at the same know when to invest in quality. Be prepared that you are going to be the only one who trusts in your vision – if you believe it can happen then make it happen – the support will come later when your business idea has proven to resonate with your target audience!

Family 101: Ways to Keep Your Little Ones Safe at Home
Children are little angels who give us adults immense joy and peace. Well, not until they reach their toddler years and start walking. If you have an infant child now, you should be aware of what you’d be facing in a year or so. Let’s just say that going to the gym is unnecessary to get the physical activities you’d need.
Our kids’ safety is our utmost priority. Once a child starts moving around, whether crawling or walking, it’s imperative to put childproofing devices in place. According to the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (ROSPA), children aged 0 to 4 are the most at risk from a home accident. “Falls account for the majority of non-fatal accidents while the highest number of deaths are due to fire,” ROSPA warns.
There are numerous home safety measures to avoid falls, furniture tip-overs, and other accidents involving your little ones. Here are six tips on ensuring your child is safe at home.
Protect your kids from falls
Photo courtesy of Rasmus Svinding via Pexels
London’s Consumer Safety Unit says that falls account for 44 percent of all home accidents involving children. While falls are considered non-fatal accidents, about 10 children reportedly die each year from falling from stairs, windows and balconies. How do you prevent these unfortunate incidents at home? If you have stairs, install top and bottom safety gates. It’s also advisable to place doorknob covers on doors that lead to stairs. For your windows, install stops or guards that prevent windows from opening fully. Move away home furniture such as chairs and dressers that can be climbed on. Always lock doors and windows that lead to porches and balconies.
Choose the right baby furniture
Photo courtesy of Markus Spiske via Pexels
The Australian State of Victoria reports that 10 percent of all hospital treated injuries involving kids less than one year old are related to baby furniture. Safety authorities also emphasize that, contrary to popular belief, secondhand furniture are not less risky than brand new items. In fact, there have been fatal accidents involving hand-me-downs that were fragile, broken or misused.
How to know if you’re buying the right baby furniture? When buying the items in Australia, make sure they comply with the following standards: for cots –Australian Standard AS/NZS 2127-2003 and for prams or strollers – Australian Standard NZS/AS2088. If you have other concerns, you can either contact the manufacturer or retailer or the Product Safety Australia Infocenter.
Keep your living room child-friendly
Photo courtesy of Unsplash via Pexels
The living room is usually the first part of the house that transforms when a child starts walking. The area is cleared for a playpen, toys are everywhere, and furniture pieces are either kept in the attic or pushed against the wall. Is it possible to bring your living room to its former glory without risking your kid’s safety? Definitely! Cushion corners and edges of tables and chairs with bumpers. You can also check your nearest furniture store for Darwin soft sofas that need no bumpers and fit even compact apartments.
A glass top coffee table may not be advisable when your toddlers are crawling and prancing around the living room. However, this doesn’t mean that you should give up your gorgeous glass furniture and dcor. You can opt for those with laminated glass or by applying shatter resistant film. It’s also important that keep glass vases and other items out of your toddler’s reach.
Prevent strangulation due to window cords
Photo courtesy of Danielle Truckenmiller via Pexels
Strangulation due to looped blinds or curtain cords is blamed for at least 30 deaths in the UK each year. The Australian government also warns that children can get entangled in these cords when they play with window coverings. When buying corded internal window coverings, choose those that comply with the mandatory standard. During installation, make sure that the covering cannot form a loop 220 mm or longer at or less than 1,600 mm above floor level. Check out the installation instructions for guidance.
Avoid devastating scalds and burns
Photo courtesy of JESHOOTS via Pexels
Scalds and burns are the fourth leading causes of death among children in the European Union. For those who survive these accidents, the recovery may take months or even years. The lasting effects on a child’s physical and emotional well-being can be difficult to overcome. How can you prevent scalds and burns in your home? Observe simple precautions such as avoiding holding a hot drink and a child at the same time, keeping hot drinks, irons, and others with hot surfaces away from your kid’s reach, and never leaving young children alone in the bathroom. You can opt for cordless kettles and cooking using back burners. If your kitchen and dining area conjoin, make sure that appliances are out of your kid’s reach. Check out dining furniture stores that offer quality high chairs and tables with soft edges.
Save your family from house fires
Photo courtesy of freestocks.org via Pexels
The curiosity of a child is boundless. They try to taste and touch everything, even the water inside toilet bowls. This is one reason why a kid with matches and lighters is a tragedy waiting to happen. The State of New South Wales reports that nearly all house fires start in the kitchen. Thus, it’s important to keep young children away from the kitchen as much as possible. Children may play with fire in their bedroom so make sure that matches and lighters are out of their reach. Authorities also advise parents to teach young kids that fire is not a toy and several survival skills in the event of a fire.
It’s also worth noting that some children may develop a fire fascination. If you notice that your kid has an obsession with fire, it’s recommended that you seek help from professionals. In NSW, the Intervention and Fire Awareness Program aims to reduce the frequency, severity, and trauma of fire tragedies.
For more tips to keep kids safe at home, you can refer to public advisories by your local government. They have information on mandatory standards for baby furniture and how to install home furnishings. As Benjamin Franklin once said, “An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.”
