As someone who has never even touched ATLA (anime), and has only ever seen the movie, let me give you a list of reasons why i absolutely adored it :
aang is literally a kid in this one, like he's a child hero and golden boy, and god, doesn't your chest hurt a little from seeing all that youth pain and pain? don't you feel raw?
katara is a total badass. i know some of the anime fans don't like how she's different, but i look up to her so much and she's younger than me canonically. i would die for her. i esp like the fact that she saw jet, liked him, but the second she realised he was kind of a cult-leader she went fuck that shit im out
ZUKO IS A SMALL BABY I WANT TO PET HIM HE'S A SMALL CHILD HE IS MY SMALL CHILD HAVE YOU EVER FELT SO TERRIBLY ABOUT SOMETHING THAT YOU WISH TO EXIST IN A TIME WHERE YOU COULD HELP IT HEAL
sokka being a playboy/summer-fling/taylor swift's james from the love triangle coded kinda guy makes so much sense. in the movie he was obsessed with one (1) girl and that never made sense to me. like okay bby pop off monogamous king??? but i definitely feel that sokka is not the kind of person (esp in this time of his life) to be a one-woman guy. also i want to see him get in trouble for it sorry idk
iroh is zuko's dad and none of y'all can convince me otherwise.
i am so obsessed with jet he's literally babygirl. sebastian ATE TF UP!!!!!!
the complexities of monk gyatso being a friend and sort of a parental figure. how aang brought out his childish side, and how life is so terribly aching and huge with grief. how it's palpable in every room. and how love is an intimate boyfriend to time's cruelty and god why can't we let there be tenderness? this isn't fair.
FLUFFY!!!!! BIG!!!!! DOG!!!!! I LOVE APPA!!!!!! HES SO CUTE!!!!!!
ozai is more despicable that any father ive read about or even my own. i wish him all the most terrible forms of daily death.
absolute brilliant fucking chad actors (sorry for using the f-word and c-word) they're absolute g's. i love every single one of them and their ability to act and their personalities and also THEY HAVE A BIG WATER BISON THAT LOOKS ADORABLE HOW ARE YOU NOT HAPPY (SORRY FOR USING THE B-WORD)??????
Rant being over, I respect y'alls opinions fr. I get that seeing somethings change or become different in a new iteration of your favorite work is tough. But let's remember the amount of effort and time it takes for these actors, sets and even storyboard artists to work on these things!!!! Life is so terribly short, why must you fill your time with dissatisfaction? Find the things you love about the new show!! Find the positives!!!
also azula is so luke castellan coded

'The Serpent's Pass'
I love this episode because two sorely missed characters - Suki and Jet - make their return.
I loved how after having to be an absolute rock during the previous episode, this one starts off with Katara getting to be playful and just enjoy herself. I loved her waterbending bomb. She's adorable.
The worsening refugee situation is yet another aspect of the war revealed very effectively by this episode. Can't fault the people for thinking that Ba Sing Se is safe...
Ah, the return of Jet! Immediate Jetko rights. There is some serious Jetko bonding in this chapter and it's great to see. Jet and Zuko's little operation to liberate the food for refugees... @juniperhillpatient, for how dysfunctional Jetko can be, you have to admit, they worked together very efficiently! Also, hearing Jet speak about how he has re-evaluated his life and is going to BSS for a second chance... why the fuck did they have to kill him off? He could have played such an interesting part in the story.
I'm glad Iroh is approaching his return to Ba Sing Se with the grace and dignity... of a complete and utter clown. Sometimes I wonder what the hell is wrong with that old man. Misgendering Smellerbee, what the fuck? 40 Jerk Points.
Damn, the Sukkka reunion is hideously sweet. Suki playing the tough guard and playfully harassing Sokka was so gosh darn cute. I re-watched that part at least four times. Sokka being super protective of Suki after what happened to Yue makes so much sense, even if he comes off annoyingly overbearing, it's still fun to see him trying to protect Suki from a spider. Sokka still missing Yue is a tearjerker moment. I'm glad Sokka pulled himself together at the end though. With how criminally little screen time Suki is given in this show, Sokka you better take any chance you have to kiss that girl.
I am going to give Aang huge credit for agreeing to guide the refugees through the Serpent's Pass even if he's depressed and lacking motivation. I want to slap Sokka for complaining about that, especially when he wanted to use the pass in the first place. Also, I can completely understand Katara being horrified by Aang's talk of abandoning hope. Katara is someone for who hope means everything.
I really enjoyed the action while fighting the giant serpent. Katara's waterbending has come such a long way. The awkward moment of Toph kissing Suki while thinking she was saved by Sokka was funny, but also kind of... weirdly set up? So all the previous abuse Toph hurled at Sokka was because she secretly liked him? I don't know how to feel about that.
Could my admiration for Katara grow any higher? The way she takes charge of the situation after the refugee lady goes into labor is impressive. At the age of 14, she's helped Kanna deliver babies back at the South Pole. When I think back to what I was like when I was 14, it just makes me blush and cringe.
Seeing Aang regain his hope at the end of the episode was so touching. I also remember how at the start of Book 2, I thought to myself: meh, this is the season where they started to push Kataang. Except... they haven't? Only Cave of Two Lovers contained traces of Kataang. This episode? It's all about sweet and caring friends energy, sorry.
Also I love the cliffhanger this episode ends on, the shot of the Fire Army drill was so ominous, like... I don't know what the hell is that thing, but it's scary.
Okay, so only Iroh was supposed to get Jerk Points for this chapter, but I'm going to touch on something that ties into the previous episode. I've always felt that Katara is criminally underappreciated by the fans and the ATLA writers, but also by the other characters on the show, she is literally ALWAYS just taken for granted. She put up with so much BS leading the group out of the desert alive, and yet she received no recognition for it, not even a single thank you? I'm giving the rest of the Gaang 30 Jerk Points each for taking Katara for granted.
Jerk Points for Book 2:
Iroh - 550 Azulon - 300 Ursa, General Fong  - 200 Aang - 160 Zuko - 120 Ozai, Toph Beifong - 100 Sokka - 70 Bumi, Lao Beifong - 50 Pakku - 30
Iroh is really pulling away at the top... can anyone challenge him this season? Long Feng has his work cut out for him.

97 “I will always protect you” Zutara and steambabies 🥺
I might’ve rambled a bit in this one, but also I could’ve droned on so I stopped myself from doing that... does it make sense, though? I hope it makes sense lol.
......
Zutara & Steambabies - #97 - “I will always protect you”
Zuko and Iroh were walking through the palace together. Dinner time was soon, and the boys needed to be somewhat presentable after a fun day spent outside.
Iroh skipped next to his father and decided to ask a very important, but rather random question as they went inside to wash up.
“Baba, why is my name Iroh?”
Zuko looked down and smiled at the three-year-old. “Because my uncle’s name was Iroh. And your mother and I thought it fit you well.”
“But why?”
Zuko playfully sighed and picked up his son to carry him. Iroh was entering his curious phase, and every question posed always had a follow-up. “Well, when Mama and I wanted to start a family, we agreed that if we had a boy, we’d name him after Uncle Iroh.”
“Why?”
“Uncle Iroh was a very important person in my life, your mother’s life, too. We wanted to honor him,” he explained.
“Oh,” Iroh replied. “Why was he so special?”
The Fire Lord smiled at the young boy and set him down so he could wash his hands and face. As Zuko knelt down to help the boy scrub his hands, he responded, “He helped me through many tough times, and he always protected me. Uncle Iroh was a very good man and taught me everything I know.”
Iroh nodded seriously, absorbing the information his dad provided him. After he finished washing his hands, Iroh spoke up again. “I want to meet him! Can we visit him?”
Zuko gave a sad smile to the boy and replied, “Uncle passed away before you were born.” He meant to say more, but it still pained Zuko to talk about him. For the longest time, Uncle was his keystone; losing him meant finding his center once again and learning to navigate the world without one of his favorite people. A large hole was left in his heart after Uncle died, and there were days immediately after where he worried he wouldn’t fill it.
Thankfully, he wasn’t alone in the journey. He had Katara, his children, his friends, and so many others in his life to support him. Rebalancing his life after Uncle took time, certainly, but not as long as one would have expected. And eventually, the hole grew smaller and smaller, until it didn’t hurt as much as it used to.
Zuko looked at Iroh. His son’s face carried a stoic look, and Zuko knew that either another comment or a question would come up.
But then Iroh said, “It’s okay, Baba. I’ll protect you now,” and Zuko’s heart stopped. Here he was, remembering and thinking about the gap in his life left by Uncle Iroh, and his son was there, ready and offering to take Uncle’s place.
It made him tear up, and his heart filled completely. Zuko tried to respond evenly, but he knew his voice would still be shaky with emotion.
“Thank you, buddy,” he replied, pulling Iroh into a tight hug. “And I will always protect you.” He kissed his son on the cheek and asked in a more cheerful tone, “What do you say we get some dinner? Mama and the girls are waiting.”
“Yeah!” he exclaimed, making Zuko laugh. “Let’s have some tea, too!”
......
Send me a prompt and a ship to write about! (for ATLA).
Or just send me asks lol

Tumblr media
Your back ached from the way you hovered over your laptop and sat at your desk. Your mind was focused on learning and getting good grades it didn’t mind the pain. Your eyes burned from the strenuous gaze at your blue screen. Your hands felt as if you churned butter and not to mention the mean girls were extra rude today at school. High school was tough and you needed the rest of the day to be filled with relaxation and peace before you hit the books tomorrow.
“Where are you going?” Your best friend Sokka asked through the phone.
You hopped off the bus with all your items almost spilling out of your bag. “I’m going to Fire Tea Shop. I read the reviews online and people say its pretty good.”
“No, c’mon Y/N you had your chance. You mean its pretty lit!!!!” Sokka sounded too much like a kid that had eaten edibles.
“I’m hanging up,” you said deadpanned. “I don’t even know how I’ve kept up this friendship this long. I’m so proud of myself.”
“Its because you love me.” Sokka sang.
“It might be because I think you need my help. If I wasn’t with you and had your back like where do you think you would be? Probably eating crap off a cave right now and starving.” You walked up and inside the cafe was so cozy. It had an earthy yet red contrast feel to the place. It sure matched with the name Fire. It had some vintage Chinese architect to it. It was stunning and really caught your eye. And it was peaceful. “Do you want anything babes?” You asked as you looked at the menu. “They have cactus juice.”
“No!” Sokka shouted on the phone. “I tried that, I couldn’t get out of the bathroom the whole day! Plus I thought I saw like mushrooms of some sort.”
You snickered, “baby, I think you’ve been eating too many mushrooms!”
“I’m good. You enjoy it there.”
You said your goodbyes and hanged up the phone. As you did an old man came up with a long beard to say his welcoming.
“Hello there, young lady. Might I interest you in trying our newest tea? White Jade tea. It’s very delicious.” He smiled wide.
You read his name tag. He was such an adorable old man. “Hmmm, Iroh? Actually since this is my first time I want to try your most popular tea. How about-”
“So White Jade?” Iroh was about to punch in your order when you heard a shriek and what seemed to be a pot dropping on the floor. “One moment please. That is probably my angsty, incapable nephew that made a mess. Please look to see what you would like.” Iroh made a hasty get away.
Out came a teen your age as he rubbed the back of his head. He was so handsome looking. His hair was disheveled and he wore a red apron. His attitude really attracted you. “Good thing I made a distraction, that White Jade tea is not a hit. I’m not that good at making tea also. That’s more my uncle’s job.” His voice was low and had an edge to it. It was so handsome.
“Oh he’s your uncle. That’s sweet!” You grabbed your wallet out. “I would like a Jasmine tea please.”
“Good choice. My uncle loves that tea. That will be $4.25.”
You grabbed your money and went to give it to him when you saw the huge scar. It was red and didn’t scare you but you couldn’t look away. The thoughts that went through your mind was how in deep pain this person must of been in to endure and cope through that painful wound.
“Why don’t you take a picture? It’ll last longer.”
You wanted to hit yourself. You were taught to have manners and here you were staring at this young man. He probably felt self conscious and insecure and you made him feel worse. “Oh my God I am so sorry. I wasn’t meaning it like that. I’m just sorry that you had to go through that.” You read his name tag. “Zuko. Its a beautiful name.”
Zuko’s nose flared up, “yeah, thanks.” He grabbed forcefully at the money and you sat and awaited your order.
You dug your head in your arms. ‘Why are you like this Y/N? Why did you stare?’
“Here is your tea miss,” Iroh instead brought the tea out. “My nephew felt he didn’t want to scare you away.”
You bit your lip, “I am so sorry. Please forgive me, I didn’t mean to make him feel uncomfortable. It was so insensitive for me to do that. Please can we start over.” You felt so bad and guilty.
Iroh thought about it then pointed to the tea. “I make the tea myself. Taste it and I’ll think about your offer.”
You sipped the warm tea and no lie it was amazing. He definitely knew what he was doing. You weren’t thinking it was fantastic because you wanted to make amends with these folks but it was actually the truth.
“Honestly?”
Iroh nodded.
“This is really good and totally what I needed today. Thank you for this and please take this tip.” You gave Iroh the money. “Its a way to say I’m sorry.”
Iroh saw the money and smiled wide, “I can think we can find it in our hearts to forgive you.”
Tumblr media
You finished your tea and went to the order counter and rang the bell. Zuko came out thinking you left.
“Yes?”
“I was thinking. Do you maybe want to go to the park tomorrow and catch some lunch? Its A way for me to apologize for my behavior today.”
Zuko looked around sheepishly, “I don’t know.”
“Please,” you pouted your lips.
Zuko agreed and the date was set.
Tumblr media
After school the next day you went straight to the cafe.
You were going to be honest in saying Zuko was really cute. You were nervous and thinking about him the whole day non stop. You even dressed up for the occasion which rarely happens! Even Sokka knew and wouldn’t stop teasing you the whole day. He should of been your hype man but he made you feel like a little girl with a crush!
“You ready Zuko?”
“Yeah just give me a sec.” Zuko went in the back and came back with a changed look. He wore instead a red bomber jacket. Could he be anymore boyfriend material?
“Love the jacket.” You poked him on his side and he blushed awkwardly.
The way to the park was more silent and you were considering if this was a bad idea.
“So do you go to school or are you home schooled?’ You tried to break the ice.
“Actually, I go to the school not to far from here.” Zuko pointed in the direction your school was at.
“Wait! I think we go to the same school! Yeah, I’ve seen you before!”
“I’m not that hard to miss.” Zuko, in a way, brought up his scar.
“No I would remember you from being so handsome.” You smirked. Zuko almost choked. “That school sucks though. Its the same everyday. Work my butt off and then get kicked around like dirt by the schools mean girls. I feel like my life is a movie sometimes.”
“Yeah I get made fun of too.”
“I’m sorry.” You touched his arm.
“My dad did this to me,” he pointed to his scar. “Didn’t like me as a son and loved my sister more, I guess.”
“It’s a touchy subject. I didn’t realize it, I’m sorry.”
Zuko chuckled which was something new to you and almost shocking, “you can stop saying sorry. I already forgive you. Its not a big deal. I like you though, I think you’re cool.”
“Thanks.”
“And those people that make fun of you, they're crazy. They're probably jealous of you because you're so beautiful.”
You almost died right there! You were like already ready to get married to this man it felt like. Would it be wrong to ask if he was single? You prayed and hoped he was.
You two sat at the bench. It was such a peaceful, sunny day. You crossed your legs and faced him. “So Zuko, lets play truth or dare!”
“I’m not playing truth or dare.”
“Alright I choose dare to get it started.”
Zuko rolled his eyes. He knew you weren’t going to do this. “I dare you to ask that old lady over there if she knows any place that sells laxatives.” You shot up and Zuko immediately regretted it. “Y/N I was just kidding. Let me do another one.”
“A dares a dare my man.” You fist bumped your chest like the warrior you were. You went up to the old lady like a lost kid.
Zuko couldn’t help but laugh hard and try to shy away from the world.
You ran back and fist bumped the air with a skip. “In your face fire prince!” You nicknamed him. “She said around the block they got a drug store. Boom! Now your turn.”
“Okay, truth.”
“Boriiiiiiiing! Oh my God! Fine! What’s the most embarrassing thing you’ve ever done?”
He groaned, “really? We’re going there? I said a joke, okay, that my uncle said and it came out terrible the punchline left the building and nobody laughed. It was [pretty brutal.”
“I would of loved to see that,” you said in awe. “That’s full on cringe right there sweetie.”
“Okay, you now.”
“Truth.”
“Sissy much?” Zuko raised his brow.
“Hypocrite! I’m just following your footsteps.”
“Okay, feisty. Have you ever kissed anybody?”
“Totally!” You struggled on that one. It was such LIES!
“You stumbled on that one. I can tell you’re lying.”
“Yes, fine I am. I’ve never kissed anybody in my life okay. Only my pillow. I’ve practiced on that and lets just say its been through a lot.”
“Wow,” Zuko tried to stifle his chuckles, “you’re unbelievable.”
“And what about you? Have you ever kissed anybody?”
“It’s not my turn.”
“Truth or dare?” You were starting to see a different side of Zuko that you really liked. He was fun and made you smile.
“Truth.”
“Have you ever kissed your girlfriend?” You wanted to see if he was single.
“I’ve kissed before but I don’t have a girlfriend.”
You legit wanted to party and cry because this could actually happen. “Who’d you kiss?”
“A customer.”
“Oooh, you have to spill the tea on that later. I choose dare!”
“I dare you to try your first kiss with me.” Zuko raised his brow.
Oh my Lord was he serious? You were sweating profusely and at an alarming rate. “Are you for real?”
Zuko nodded his head, “it is a dare. And you wanted to start this. I told you not to.”
“I’ve never kissed anyone! How do I do it?”
“Just look at me and try it out and I’ll critique it.”
“I’m kinda hating you right now.” You glared at Zuko. “Only 3 seconds okay.”
Zuko surrendered to that and you closened up on him. He smelled of tea leaves that were light and airy and a burning flame of musk. He was really growing on you. You came closer and closer until your lips met. You wanted to keep still but Zuko moved his lips so you followed. You felt the whole shebang. Fireworks, butterflies, everything. You clutched onto his bomber jacket. They seemed so strong and vigorous the kisses but they were tiny pecks to start you off. Your lips moved in sync with his because you got the memo and started getting used to it. You looked down at your watch as saw that it passed the three seconds. Separating from him you wiped your lips, breathless for a puny kiss. It seemed like such a milestone for you and something so big but in reality some kids kiss their posters longer than what you did.
“How was that?” Zuko looked away blushing.
“Very invigorating and exciting.” You were speechless. You were such a daredevil is what you thought to kiss this complete handsome stranger. It was like a dream though. You stood on the bench and screamed out the park, “I just had my first kiss everyone!!!”
Zuko pulled you down, “oh my God it wasn’t that amazing. Chill out. I choose truth.”
You evilly smiled, “do you think I’m attractive?”
Zuko’s blush was even redder this time. “Yeah, you’re cute. My type.”
You wiggled your brows, “you’re type? You think I’m cute? He’s think I’m cute! I have finally a guy! Who thinks I’m cute! I have a chance! At not being alone! And being a crazy cat lady!” You sang as you shook your body. “Okay last one, I choose dare again. Yolo. Living on the edge.”
“I dare you to go on another date with me,” Zuko asked as he played with his fingers.
It was silent and you were surprised on one factor. ‘This was a date?’ You grabbed his hands and smiled at him, “I’d love to go on another date with you! And you said you didn’t want to play truth or dare.”

IK YOU'VE WROTE DRABBLES IN A CURRECT AU OF YUE AND ZUKO AND I WAS WONDERING IF YOU COULD WRITE ONE OF THEM QUARANTINING TOGETHER IM PICTURING YUE WITH CANDLES AND INCENSE AND I LOVE WRITING IN CAPS IM ALWAYS SCREAMING IN MY MIND
When your mind is always screaming-
Okay-okay-okay, but like, before the drabble, there is so much to dissect. Like, imagine, Zuko and Yue, quarantining.
THE POTENTIAL-
You know Zuko (at first) hates the idea of working from home solely because he thinks working from home is going to be such a pain (Daddy CEO Zuko over here).
Imagine his surprise when Zuko realizes HOW MUCH WORK HE GETS DONE AT HOME, ONLINE.
Zuko’s mind - blown.
He gets to stay in the comfort of his home office, with Yue, with little human interaction, and STILL get shit done? Amazing.
Yue, while we think she would be thriving, would lowkey be struggling.
I headcanon that Yue and Iroh have a joint tea shop and bakery~
And while Yue is our little’ shy baby, she still loves being around people and making them smile. So this ‘stay-at-home’ stuff is super tough.
The saving grace? Yue can still do ‘pick-up only orders,’ and we know our girl would refuse to let Uncle Iroh go to work and risk getting sick.
Our Queen manages the bakery and tea shop herself while Zuko helps because he loves seeing Yue take pride in the things she loves.
And when her shift at work is all done, Zuko picks her up, and they go home together; she right away gets into ‘comfy mode-’
Tumblr media
No pants and Zuko’s sweatshirt, Yue had the softest smile on her face as she danced around the kitchen. Her hips swayed to the music that boomed through their small speaker, swinging the spoon in her hand around like it was a long strand of ribbon instead.
She was so lost in her little world, humming to herself as she tiptoed to their fridge, without a doubt to grab some ice cream, she failed to take in how Zuko leaned against the doorframe, grinning at the sight.
Seeing Yue all dolled up, hair did and dressed fancy was a beautiful sight, but seeing Yue like this- hair in a messy bun, wearing one of his old sweatshirts with some plain old panties was just as charming.
In fact, everything she did, spoke, touched, seemed ten times better. From the cute kitchen utensils with kawaii faces printed to the abnormal amount of pillows in the living room. Just in case they had to build a ‘fort.’ Something Zuko snorted at first. Still, after a night of too much beer, Zuko and Sokka did make one—waking up the next morning completely confused.
Zuko lived in this apartment for how long, but it never did feel like home until Yue entered the picture.
Because she is home.
The moon high in the sky, the vanilla candles Yue lit casting shadows along the walls, Zuko still couldn’t get over how utterly silly (but adorable) she looked with those cat slippers on her feet.
With ease, Yue shut the freezer door with her hip, stuffing the spoon into her mouth. Her hands were eagerly tugging on the cold container of ice cream to eat, no, more like inhale.
And as the container popped open, Yue’s eyes lighting up at the sight of that sweet, frozen, delicious chocolate, she finally took notice of Zuko. A little peep, cheeks turning pink as she was caught binging on a late-night snack, and Zuko chuckled.
“I guess I can assume you aren’t sharing?” Zuko teased, and Yue pulled the spoon from her mouth, nibbling on her lip, “Only if I have to.”
“You’re such a brat, come here.” Zuko pestered, stepping forward to grab the ice cream. And right away, Yue dodged, sticking her tongue out, “Make me.”
“Love-”
“Zuko.”
“Love.”
“Zuko,” Yue repeated once more, her eyes glimmering with a mischievousness as she continued to step back, hiding the ice cream behind her back.
“If you want it, come and get it.”
And Zuko grinned.
He loved a good challenge.

The Prince’s Girlfriend
Prince Zuko x Reader
Note: You voted! Here it is! I’ve lowkey had this idea bouncing around since I wrote the other one lmao hope you like it!! (This is the sequel to Time Traveler’s Daughter)
Warnings: None?
Word Count: 1.5k
Tumblr media
Growing up the way you did, with a childhood split between worlds, you had a few groups of friends. You had the witchy group of friends that you celebrated solstice and other witchy holidays with, your dimension-hopping friends, who came to visit whenever it was convenient, and then, there were the mortal friends you had who lived in constant awe of your crazy life.
It was the third group that was assembled in your living room.
Given the recent events in your life, your mortal friends, who still didn’t know quite everything had proposed an Avatar marathon, and really, who were you to refuse? Zuko, who had moved in after jumping to your dimension, was currently in your room, playing the Sims on your computer. It was cute how obsessed he was with it. He’d made you and himself and moved you into a house and started a little family. It was heart-melting, really.
You were only on the first season when the boyfriend question popped up.
“I heard you’re seeing someone!” Your friend Devin said, smiling.
“I am!”
“Could we get some details, maybe?” Logan prodded, reaching over you to take a handful of popcorn from the bowl.
“Well, he’s handsome, first of all.” You giggled, blushing. “He’s got this really fiery personality, you know? Pretends to be all tough on the outside, but he’s got a heart of gold, a real prince.”
“Treats you like a princess?”
“Of course.” You nodded, grabbing some popcorn for yourself.
“Where’d you meet?” Devin asked, intrigued. Little did either of them know that the guy you were talking about was currently on the screen in all of his season one glory, ponytail, temper, and all.
“This little tea shop out of town.” You answered, smirking. Technically, nothing you’d said so far was a lie. Were you dancing around the truth? Of course. But that would only make it more fun whenever Zuko finally wandered out of your room and you got to officially introduce them.
It was pretty rare that your mortal friends got to meet people from the other parts of your life. The exception was the one time Tadashi Hamada had popped in to ask your dad a question about an assignment he was working on while you were having a movie marathon. Needless to say, they had been pretty surprised.
“How did he ask you out?”
“It was kind of a mutual thing. I liked him, he liked me…the rest is history.”
“Haha, that rhymed.”
“She’s a poet in love…” Logan sighed. He looked back to the screen in time to see Zuko yelling at someone about his honor. “Oof, I can’t wait for his season 2 hair.”
“Listen, fire boi ages like fine wine. Glow up of the century.” Devin agreed.
“Oh yeah. Big time.” You nodded. When you looked out of the doorway of the living room, through the dining room, and into the kitchen, you spotted Zuko standing at the fridge, getting a glass of water. He was wearing a gray sweatshirt, the hood pulled up over his head, so from the side, he just looked like some dude standing in your house. Certainly not the prince of the Fire Nation, and definitely not the handsome boyfriend you boasted so proudly.
“How’s the Sims going, babe?” You called and he looked over at you, grinning. From where they were sitting, Devin and Logan couldn’t see into the kitchen.
“Your boyfriend is here?” Logan asked, anticipation spreading across his face.
“Taking a break. My hand hurts.” He chuckled. “Mind if I come out there?”
“There’s a spot over here.” You scooted over and patted the spot beside you. “Come meet my friends.”
So, he walked into the living room, lowering his hood so your friends could get a better look at him. Devin paused the episode, his mouth hanging wide open as he looked back and forth between the prince’s cartoon form and his living, breathing one.
“Um, hi. I’m Zuko. (Y/N)’s boyfriend. Nice to meet you.”
“You’re kidding. No fucking way.” Logan stared for a long moment before finally looking at you for confirmation. “You’re—He’s—What the fuck?!”
“You never tell us when you go on cool dimension-hopping adventures!” Devin whined. “You’re dating Prince Fucking Zuko?!”
“Well, technically, he’s the Fire Lord now…” You chuckled to yourself, motioning Zuko over from his spot in the doorway. He was grinning, still not quite used to the idea that you and your friends had grown up watching him on your magical image boxes. Well, TVs, as you had taught him. “I meant to tell you sooner, I really did, but I thought it would be too funny to surprise you.”
“Good call, princess.” Zuko nudged you over the tiniest bit, sitting down next to you with his thigh pressed against yours. “That was hilarious.” He was about to ask what you were watching when he finally looked up at the screen to catch sight of his past self. He cringed. Ugh, he couldn’t believe there was ever a time he had…looked like that…acted like that. It was embarrassing that you had grown up seeing that version of him, even if he did change over time.
“Please tell me my redemption arch starts soon.”
“Well, we’re in the middle of the first season, so no. Not for a little while here.” You tugged Zuko’s arm around you and draped your legs over his thighs. “You’re so warm…” you mumbled into his hoodie, reveling in the rumble of his amused chuckle.
“Why are you always so cold, baby?” His fingers playing with your hair, he kissed your forehead. He looked up to find your friends still gawking at him. “You can…ask questions if you want.”
“Yeah, sure, how did this happen?” Logan cut to the chase, motioning between the two of you.
“Well, you see, for my graduation, Dad gave me a dimension-hopping watch and the first place I crash-landed was Zuko’s world. Sometime during season 2, I think, while he and Iroh were running the tea shop in Ba Sing Se.”
“And I fell head over heels in love with her, so once the war ended, I used her Dad’s tech to make an alternate ending for us.”
“You literally changed the timeline for her.”
“Yeah.” Zuko shrugged, winding his arm further around you.
“Love that for us.” You chuckled, nuzzling against him.
“Wait, but…didn’t you get with Mai after season 2? You were dating in season 3…” Devin was always the one to start fact-checking things when they seemed off. Honestly, you hadn’t even thought about that? Had the events of the cartoon played out the same way even though you’d interfered?
“It didn’t happen that way when I did it. I can point it out and tell you what happened when we get there,” he looked to you, “if you let me stay for the rest of the marathon, that is.”
“Of course you can stay, Zuko.” You giggled, kissing his cheek. “I’d like to hear your side of the story.”
And so he did. The marathon ran for what seemed like eternities, but it got more interesting once you finally reached the point after you left Ba Sing Se.
“I never went back to the Fire Nation. Iroh and I ran off and went on the road for a while. All of this…” He watched as the alternate version of himself made all of the choices he never would have made. “I can’t believe that’s the way it would have happened…”
“Sure, you got a little lost, but…you found your way back eventually. I think that’s why I liked you so much growing up. You made mistakes, but in the end, you learned from them and became stronger because of it.”
“Yeah?” Zuko looked down at you with that amused glimmer in his amber eyes.
“Yeah.” You nodded, a smirk slowly stretching across your features. “Well, that and you got really hot in Season 3.”
He snorted, nearly choking on the popcorn he’d been attempting to eat. “God,” he coughed, laughing, “don’t say things like that, you’re gonna make me choke. I didn’t come all the way from another dimension to die eating popcorn.”
“She’s not wrong.” Logan laughed, still absorbing what he and Devin had learned that day.
“Can confirm. Glow up of the century.”
“Oh shut up.” He shook his head, his cheeks getting redder every second.
You reached up and pinched one of them, laughing before pulling him in for a kiss. “You’re a real Prince Charming, you know that?”
“For you, princess, I’d be anything you wanted me to be.”
“Quit being cheesy, the hot firebender is talking.” Devin shushed the two of you as Zuko’s cartoon counterpart started to say something.
You grinned softly to yourself, leaning against Zuko, listening to his breaths, his soft laughter, taking in how good it felt when his fingers brushed through your hair. Your seven-year-old self and you were united in that moment, wrapped up in his strong arms with his lips pressing tender kisses to your forehead.
At long last, your prince had come for you, and you never wanted to go back.
