one of the tech guys at work is a croat from my dad's generation and when talking to me about the other slavs at the lab, referred to them as "jednog našeg" (one of ours) which just reminded me of how bullshit it is when westerners make jokes about "oooh ur from a different ex-yugoslav country to this other guy dont start fighting haha" as if it's not instant solidarity when we meet

#babe half my extended family r technically bosnians #my dad works in croatia its literally fine #i only ever met one old guy who was an asshole about me being a serb and it was so weird that everyone commented on it #quasigh #one of the post-docs on our floor is also half croatian and we ended up complaining about this when we hung out last sunday #and about how we both hate those damn choco bananas despite both our fathers loving them #but thats less serious
