After the death of winter, when the earth became alive and the rain poured during the night, the sound of crashing waves against the rocks began to drown the voices from the patio, as the slight breeze of the ocean surrounded the beach.
You buried your feet in the sand while the ocean breeze wrinkled your dress. The salty air invaded your tongue as your bloodshot eyes stared blankly at the ocean. From a distance, the debate in your mind was evident as you fought reality in silence, you didn’t want to believe it.
The passing thought of a life-changing event that could come at any time was more than enough to make you crash.
The flowers were supposed to bloom, the nights were supposed to be longer and the slight anticipation of the coming summer. But in the cold afternoon, during late March, everything shifted and changed.
Flower bouquets decorated the living room, as the soft music filled the house. Your hand kept playing with the red sun ring that sat in your right hand, as you stood beside the staircase with an unconscious gaze fixed on nothing.
People came and went with hugs and small nods of sympathy. Your family, the superfriends, Earth 1 superheroes and their families, DEO agents and more. But you waited in silence, waited to wake up, waited for the cheerful barking from the family dog, Krypto, as she landed in the backyard, to see her through the house with a smile. Waited for the scolding for not having socks on due to the cold floor, waited for the scolds of using super powers for chores, waited to be called for family dinner, waited for the long talks about the most uncommon things after work, waited for the last piece fight, waited for the loud laughs because of her favorite movies, waited for the night flights, and the roof talks.
Waiting for your family to tell you it was all a lie, waiting for the hugs, waiting for the ‘good nights’ and ‘I love yous', you waited for her but she never returned.
“I’m sorry for your loss.”
The familiar voice of the neighbor’s kid brought you back to reality. Broody always had a cheerful smile and shiny brown eyes, full of life and energy. And now he stood with a small tucked-in shirt and bloodshot eyes, looking at you with pain and sadness.
With a cough and a small, shy nod, you nervously grasped the end of your sleeves and entered the house. You tried to look everywhere but him, as she placed her keys beside the family picture.
Smiles and laughter were caught in the picture, the beach background radiated summer and the sunkissed tans on all of you confirmed the vacation photo. It looked perfect, even though your hair was sopping wet and out of place, happiness radiated from you. You stood beside your family hugging you, Lena and Kara looking at you as if you were their center of the universe, enjoying one another, totally clueless about what the next year was going to be like.
And that's how you found yourself looking down at the tablet, her old suit up in a display beside her first photo appearance as supergirl, you knew the truth, that was not her.
She would roam around with polos, and colorful shirts, blonde disarrange hair. Red cheeks and a small mark by her eyebrow. Ocean orbs that are always smiling. That’s how she was supposed to be, full of energy and jokes even in the darkest days but not anymore.
There you wondered of a life without her, a life without her laughs, her jokes, her smile. A life where she wasn't there, where the memories of her were all you had, where she didn’t get to walk you down the aisle, a life where she didn’t stand beside you at graduation, and your first day of college. A life where one last time she decides to save the world instead of being with you.
——
The summer after high school graduation was the time when teens made memories and held them close to their hearts for the rest of their lives. The happiness and warmth as they prepared for the biggest change in their lives, college.
You were supposed to work for the first few weeks of summer, before going on your senior trip with your best friend before coming back home and organizing your things for college before going on the family trip to New York. But plans changed and you isolated yourself.
For you change has never come easy, from changing your favorite clothes as you grew out of them to the disappearance of your jeju. The last few weeks of Senior year had passed in a blink of an eye, one moment you stood beside your grieving family during Spring break, and the next you stood beside them with a cap and gown at graduation without your mom.
You didn't eat, didn't sleep, you didn't shower, you were just there. All around surrounded by painful memories that haunted you. The darkness of your room felt reassuring when everything started to turn until it wasn't the same she knew.
Everything was different, it felt different, it sounded different, it tasted different. There was a silence between the family, an unbreakable pressure each one of them had. And when her common phrase stood on the wall by the family portrait in her unique handwriting.
‘Things need time because time heals’
You couldn’t help but hate her even more. Because how could time heal this?
How could you see life after losing your jeju? how could you understand the meaning of it, how could you see yourself walking down the aisle, how could you not wish for her to be there on your graduation, how could you be able to go to sleep without dreaming of her, how could you keep missing her, how could you keep using your powers without her. How could you keep going when she wasn't there with you?
After long nights of missing her, you found refuge in the smallest things. Coffee and books became your support after your love for science, journalism and superheroes faded away.
Every once in a while, you spend time in the park sitting on a bench, reading a new book with a small cup of coffee.
It was nice. But nice things can only last for so long. You think bitterly.
You tried to distract yourself from the voices in your head, you worked, but even that only lasts so long until you get back home.
The circles under your eyes grow darker, your favorite foods taste rubbery, and drinks become bitter, your pants become a loser, the red son ring stays on, and the kryptonite pills get taken more and your once full life becomes lifeless.
Memories haunt you, as everything becomes a hateful reminder. The food, the couch, the piano, the car, the house, the beach, the dog, the DEO, the tower, the superfriends. The revelation comes out so honest, you just don't try anymore.
The night was quiet, and you could feel each other's exhaustion. Your brunette-haired mom places the foiled dish on the table, The lasagna was warm, the salty smell of cheese and marinara invading the dining room.
You pluck out the fork on the table, before peeling back the foil trying to get a piece. You sit back and stay silent. You can taste the pasta, cheese, tomato, and meat but with every bite, the taste slowly starts to fade away, until it's all mushy and bitter. You hate it.
The empty seat in front of you is a reminder that she wasn't there anymore. It has been like that for a while, you think mournfully, eyes glued to the chair.
“How was work, darling?” Your mom asks you curiously.
Lena had always been a person of tranquility even during the disappearance of Kara, she tried to show no weakness in front of you since after all, you had no one but her, she had to keep it all together, how else was she supposed to be there for you. She was the CEO of one of the biggest science fundations, she had it handled, or so she thought.
“Good,” You murmured, eyes not leaving the plate while you picked at your food.
“That’s good, honey”
As usual, Krypto lay down beside your chair, waiting for you to pet him. While Lena hears the muffled sound of the golden retriever moving to her daughter’s side; she doesn't argue about his presence in the room, unlike before.
Like when you would sneak him food or try to pet him, even at the worst times possible. Or when you would roam around with him in your arms, and gather up an increasing amount of golden hair on your pants. When you would stay with him, instead of going out. When every single inconvenience was let known to the dog and not her friends. When he wasn't another reminder of her.
With that silence took over the dinner. As for you, you stood up to go to the kitchen, with no sign of acknowledgment to Krypto. Lena watched you leave, with bloodshot eyes sighing in defeat.
You werent dumb, you saw it, more like you saw him but it hurt more and more with time. Even on the darkest nights when you needed him the most, you could only see him across the backyard with your jeju playing catch, she could only see him in her hands with a small bowtie and a wide smile on her face. You could only see Kara through Krypto, and you hated her for that. For making you hate your best friend.
—
You write, write, and write.
You wonder if you'll ever stop. Your therapist said it would help, you don't believe it at first but when the sun circles the earth and the day of your disappearance is back. You're tired but try it, in hopes of something, anything.
In hopes of finding what the itchy feeling on your heart is, in hopes to understand it. Understand how you can find every cloud on a sunny day and hit every traffic light on the road while still deep down wishing she was there. And somehow embrace it, embrace all of the broken pieces of you that stand on the floor.
It has been a year now. You think.
It's almost absurd how you are there standing, breathing, blinking but not living. It didn't feel like living but existing. The same draining routine every day, made you wonder what anything else would feel like.
The pain in your stomach keeps hitting, the weight on your shoulders keeps fatiguing and you can’t fix it, you can’t manage it, you can’t understand why it’s simply not going away.
The bird's tweet, the wind tickling the leaves, and the laughter of the superfriends echoed in the house. Her coffee cup was on the stairs beside you, as you gazed towards the ocean horizon before looking down at the black phone.
Your fingers trembled as you grabbed it, dialing the number you hadn't called in a year. You weren't expecting your call to be answered, but deep down you hoped it would.
Just like you felt the first few months when your eyes trembled to close in tiredness. Because you couldn't handle the thought of going to sleep, because of that miserable second in the morning when you forgot she was gone, and your body wasn't on autopilot anymore.
But when she was met with the pitch of her voice as the voicemail message. Her breath shuttered as her eyes clouded with tears. Your breath hitched at her voice.
“This is Kara Danvers, I’m sorry I couldn't attend your call, please don't leave a message after the tone, just text me like that I might answer faster. And in case I don't see ya! Good morning, good afternoon, good evening, and good night!”
You sniffed and wiped the streams with the back of your hand. “Hey, jeju…”
“I’m sorry, I'm so sorry” You sobbed.
“I'm sorry it has taken me so long to come back to you, I'm sorry for hating you, I'm sorry for not saying goodbye, I'm sorry for everything. But I can't forgive you, I can't.”
“I can't forgive that you left, and now there is a hole in my heart, where you used to be. I just-”
“I love you, and I miss you, I miss you so much.”
You hung up her phone and wiped your tears away. your nose and eyes matched the color of the red of your cheeks, and with a slight tremble in your walk, you twisted the door handle to the house.
Your mom stood from the kitchen aisle and opened her arms. You ran from the door to her mother.
Lena held you tightly almost afraid to let go, swaying back and forth with a hand stroking your hair.
“It’s going to be okay, I promise.” She whispered attentively.
Lena’s emerald green eyes stared right back into the same blue orbs her super had. Kissing your forehead before pulling you into her arms again.
—
After that night, days appeared longer, the wind blew less, and the ocean was calmer. The house started to feel like home again, the lights became brighter, the paint became happier and the walls became peaceful. Krypto roams around more frequently, Lena works less and you are able to feel more.
Sunrises and Sunsets felt relieving on the beachfront, signaling the end and the start of something. Coffee and tea accompanied her in the early morning and late afternoons when you looked for her at the end of the horizon. Because even when every candle, every prayer, every photo, and memory made you hate her, it didn't make up for the fact that the only thing you had left was a hole in your heart where she used to be.
Two years have gone by since the cold and cloudy day in March when your life changed. When her comparison of a Piano and life finally made sense, it was too late, the suffering had already passed and the good in life was slowly fading back into her life.
It was getting easier, the routine helped, and the writing helped, but it was still exhausting for you. To do it every day.
Because even when your mom’s soft embrace became warmer when sweet words healed your cracked heart, and when others left sympathy, it was only you who could heal yourself, because only you knew where it hurt. The pain was deeper from your heart to your mind leaving scars with heavy pain and darkness that eventually would become a reminder and not a feeling anymore.
—
“Krypto. Stop!” You yelled when the dog ran through the back door to the beach.
The sunset was down on the blue ocean, and as the breeze of spring moved the sand, you ran down the patio, trying to catch up with the golden retriever.
Krypto jumped up and down as you stood looking at the now orange and yellowish ocean, as the sunset happened. Taking a deep breath you murmured sitting down petting Krypto. Putting the familiar black cup beside them.
“I miss you.”
Trying to not let the emotion take control, you grasped the end of her sleeves glancing at the ocean as the dog didn't hesitate to lay down on your lap.
With your hand through his hair, you knew as the wave crashed against the rocks and the ocean breeze harshly passed through them. That even when she couldn't be there to witness, she knew about the isolation, the hidden pain, the sadness, and the silence. It all ended by reflecting on one thing, You trying to understand your feelings, your world, your family, and yourself.
The familiar presence of Lena was known when she carefully dropped a blanket on your shoulders and sat beside you. Your lip trembled, as you tugged the blanket around yourself, Lena carefully laid a kiss on your forehead before your bloodshot eyes sobbed in grief.
In silence you turned back to your brunette mother, glancing at the green piercing eyes that always brought comfort in hopes of something.
With sympathy and sadness as she saw her daughter in pain, Lena wished to cease your pain, but she could only give the sweet and comforting words that could help you go through it, after all, she was missing part of her heart too.
As the day ended, the only thing that could be heard was the crashing of the waves in the ocean and the small echo of a young girl sobbing because of the loss of her mother.
—-
The night is long and Lena sits in the kitchen. A wine bottle opened up and the glass was full, her computer running through investors numbers and most of the work papers for the foundation. The engineering tab opens where Kara's suit remains unchanged. The brunette sighs as she hears knocking at the front door. She pulls Kara’s sweater down almost covering her shorts and adjusts her glasses before getting up
It couldn't be you, you had gone upstairs to watch a movie trying to lose track of time before going to bed. She thinks.
She walks up with furrowed eyebrows and opens the door hesitantly and it's met with a sight she had wished for so long.
Kara stands there in all her glory, her suit renovated with now gold straps and a small logo in her sleeves almost as if nothing had happened. Almost out of breath, she talks.
“Lena… I can explain”

✨ HAHAAA SIKE, I HAVE THE NEXT CHAPTER OF ToB RIGHT NOW. REMEMBER WHEN I SAID I WOULD POST THIS ON JULY FIRST>>>>OF 2021>>>>> THAT'S MY BAD, THAT'S EMBARRASSING
1-Delphi 2-Perachora 3-Loutraki Casino Hotel 4-Corinth
The party had an energy of its own, and you couldn’t match it.
It was obvious and bothersome. You didn’t belong there.
You were like a buttery breath of air in a room full of must. The stares came in plenty, each pair of eyes glossing Diana’s figure then your own. You felt out of place when you looked at every man and woman and the clothing they bore—denim trousers too tight or too high on the waist, thick blazers catching pockets of underarm sweat.
Diana dressed like them, the fabric and design easily matching the room’s, but she didn’t look like them. She looked like an entirely different sort of being, perhaps even of another world. Her beauty flooded the room. You felt out of place even more at Dianas’s arm. She was regarded by all with kind reception and eagerness, an eagerness to flock to her and even kiss her feet.
It was easy to see that Diana was a gem of beauty everywhere she went.
Diana escorted you to the gallery room, and you called it such because it appeared a gallery. The walls were boarded with paintings and photographs. Shelves and pillars housed statues, artifacts, and busts. Everyone seemed to have a piece with a name tag attached.
“The presentation involves every one of these,” Diana explained. “Every piece here was discovered or restored by someone from museums all over the world.” ‘Where’s your piece?” You asked as you looked all around--was it the curved, Chinese sword displayed in velvet? Your blood sang in envy. What epic battles it must have seen.
“No, mine is…” She trailed off and smiled softly, so softly that you were certain she had forgotten what she was going to say in the first place.
Diana took you by the hand and led you through the room.
“Look familiar?” She says.
You looked surprised at first, as you caught sight of the relic Diana was presenting as her own. You felt your heart pound twice as fast. There was a little sign in bold print that made a little explanation of what Miss Prince was presenting, but it wasn’t something you needed to read to know. It was you. It was your face, made smoothly from white marble. The divots of your nose and the hollows just under your eyes, where your closed eyelids let your lashes kiss the skin.
It was like looking in the perfect mirror.
“Diana…”
“Beautiful, isn’t it?” she asked, her lips in a small smile. The curve of her lower lip was calling to you like a siren in the water.
You looked away, taking a sharp breath. “Why would you do it?”
Something panged inside of Diana when you said it. She hid her hurt the way she tended to and she shrugged all too casually. “It made its way to me at the most opportune of times,” she said. “Your message was sent through it.”
“Interesting,” you said. “I didn’t realize that it would come from my lips so literally,” you added with a shrug that was just like Diana’s-- too casual. “The incantation said it’d be just as good as the real thing. You know, face to face. But this was...face to face.”
You were pale. Diana could see it as you tried to hide it, looking away from your marble image. “So how do we start looking?” you asked, rubbing your hands together mischeviously. You were more than ready to ditch the venue and begin the search.
“Looking?” Diana asked. “Look around at whatever you’d like. There’s lots of wonderful pieces to see.”
“That’s not what I meant, Dee,” you said, putting a hand on your hip. “I didn’t come here to flirt and play games. You told me the reason we even came to this place was because the chances of finding the artifacts were higher.”
Diana’s brows furrowed with anger as you looked flippantly at her. “You don't like the statue?”
Your chest constricted painfully as you looked into her brown eyes abruptly. You took a deep breath. “It’s not that.”
“Then what is it?” she asked. She was prodding you for answers, something she did often. Today, though, you weren’t in the mood for her prodding. “I smell wine,” you said with a smile. You held out a hand for Diana to take. She hesitantly accepted. By the look on her face, she was trying to figure out what was going on inside your head.
“I'm sorry for my attitude, Dee,” you said as you both strolled out of the exhibit. Indeed your senses were correct, and you found a table of champagne and wine, stacked in neat glasses that made an elaborate tower.
Diana took a glass in her slender hands, balancing it in the folds of two fingers. “You don't have to apologize,” she said as she took a studious sip of her drink. You were not as wary-the drink was gone in a single gulp, leaving Diana to give you a chastising glare. She stopped you from taking a second goblet.
“It's not as if I'd get drunk off it,” you complained as Diana arduously took you away.
“Let's enjoy the time you have here,” Diana said softly as she linked her arm with yours. “You still have so much to see before you return to The Mountain.”
You shivered at the thought.
“Dee...if I don't find these artifacts, then I-I don't know if I'll want to return.”
Diana lifted a brow. She was surprised to hear you stuttering. It’s not usual that you’re at a loss for words. “What happened to not wanting to live without powers?” She asked, in the slight guise of a tease.
You were not in a gaming mood. You pulled your arm away from Diana’s. Your skin prickled with warmth from where she had touched you, so softly.
“How long do we have to be here?” You asked, picking up another glass.
Diana frowned. “Don't you want to watch my presentation?”
“No,” you said, blandly. You had no interest in watching Diana talk about you and your life.
Diana looked stupefied. For a brief second you could see her youth melt away to reveal the aches and pains she'd felt over the span of her long, long life. But being Diana, she quickly covered herself back up with a warm smile. “Hmm. Then…enjoy the other galleries. Please don’t go off and start looking on your own. I will help you. Just wait until tonight. Okay?”
“Sure. Whatever.”
Diana’s eyes hardened. “Fine.” She left you briskly, like a wounded animal trying to play off the gravity of their injuries. She had been hurt. You hurt her.
You kept seeing her face in mind, melting away from the pain you had instilled.
Angry boiled in your gut as you stormed out, your curly sprigs of hair bouncing around your face. She didn't have the right to look at you that way. How dare she?
What made her think that she was obliged to your time and attention, especially when you were so very clearly trying to search for the stupid artifacts?
Diana didn't care about you. Not really. She was having a grand time playing housewife with you in her Paris forest home. But she didn't understand the pressure you were under, nor the fear that was blossoming in you every day.
Persephone wanted what she wanted, and she usually gets what she wants. And Persephone just so happens to want a mistress of her own. Her departures from the Underworld leave her so lonely that she wanted a special plaything to keep her occupied for the few months she spent away from home. A special wife, just for Persephone’s boredom. And for some reason, you were the only name to come up. You found it hard to believe that no other name was thrown in the ring. What made you so special? What was so imperative about this marriage arrangement that only an epic search around the world would get you out of it?
You were in need of catharsis. Big time.
You cast one finally glance over your shoulder. Diana was making friendly conversation with her colleagues. Good. Let her.
You left to explore the rest of the venue. It was definitely an art venue, that was for sure. Other rooms had galleries of portraits and cultural artifacts on display. You examined everything closely. It must be easy to fool mortals. You could identify with ease the real, valuable baubles from the fake.
The Mesopotamian pottery? Almost all fake.
But the armor? Most of it is authentic.
Boring, oh, boring, you think as you pass a table of refreshments. You down another glass of champagne. Less boring, the world became as the bubbly drink warmed your insides.
You moved onto the paintings. Now paintings are certainly nice to see! No one actually cared about them, though. At least, not on the Mountain. Some mortals poured their blood, sweat, and tears into a just a few paintings. Little did they know that Gods would rather see a phallic statue or two. But, paintings? Boring.
Your eyes caught a glance of one particular image on the far end of the room. You left your empty glass on the nearest surface and quickly headed for the painting.
“Mother,” you whispered.
Aphrodite was pictured in a gilded frame. Aphrodite was pretty well known. And this painting captured her imagery down to the tee. You stared at the image, half expecting it to come to life.
“You look like her,” a voice said. You rolled your eyes, recognizing the flirtatious lilt in the woman's voice already.
Oh.
She was prettier than you expected.
“Do I?” You purred.
Guilt dripped down the back of your neck in the form of sweat.
But, you tell yourself, there's no reason to feel guilty. Diana would not care if you simply spoke to another. Diana wouldn't. Diana wasn't anyone important.
Just a friend.
“Actually, yes, you do,” the woman said, looking between you and the painted Aphrodite. “That's really strange.”
You shrugged impassively. “Maybe it's my outfit.”
The woman giggled, covering her thin lips with a hand. “You certainly look authentic,” she said. “Are you presenting something, or…?” You shrugged. “I just dress this way,” you said, trying to sound pompous. Your tactics were working, strangely enough. The woman was eating from the palm of your hand. She moved closer, her blue eyes analyzing your outfit and figure. No one can resist a bitch.
“It looks really good,” she said.
You offered a fleeting smile. “What brings you here? Are you a curator as well?”
“Just a patron of the arts,” she said, waving a hand dismissively. “I collect. I live for these exhibitions.”
“Collect?” you repeated.
“I buy whatever is for sale and I add it to my collection,” she amended. Interesting.
“And what is it that you like to collect?” you asked her with a flirtatious smile.
Your teeth slid over your lip as you spoke, drawing the woman’s attention to the bow of your mouth and the pearly white of your canines. Your veins flexed as you pushed the glittering energy to the forefront of your mind, willing it to gloss through the woman’s nostrils and mouth. She took a deep breath and momentarily looked dazed. Was this her first experience with magic? She was taking it well.
“I collect priceless artifacts that I then auction off through an illegal ring of buyers,” she admitted, her eyes glazed over with dulled senses.
“Why?” you asked.
“We’re looking for magic in the real world, trying to prove it exists.”
You cut off the magic flow of the energy that was seeping right into her, making her tell the truth without thinking about it. “Wow, now that’s very interesting.”
She looked bashful, realizing exactly what she had just said. “Forgive me,” she said, clearing her throat. “I tend to dramatize most of what I do.”
“It’s okay,” you said, sending out a last minute wave of magic. “I’m in the same line of work. I work with your colleagues.”
“You work with Joseph and Alicia?” she asked, looking surprised even as the enchanting fumes seeped into her skin.
“I do,” you said. I’m looking for my own artifacts. Maybe you could help me.”
Cut off. The pulses of magic ceased in a sudden break, as if they’d hit a brick wall.
She once again looked dazed, maybe a little nauseated. But she shook it off. “Maybe I could,” she said, looking pleased with the idea as if it were her own.
You were pleased. Smirking at her, you admired your handiwork. Mortals are so easy to enchant. Especially one that already believes in magic. She, foolishly, allowed her mind to be off guard, likely never expecting to be ambushed by the one force she sought to discover.
You led her out of the room, plucking up another glass of sparkling wine upon passing the mobile waiter.
“What sort of magic are you looking for, exactly?” you asked as you downed the drink.
You led her by the arm, touching her bare skin and feeling her hair stand on edge. You tried not to frown. Was she lovestruck? You’d hardly tried to sway her. A little bit of magic must go a long way. Given your heritage, you’re really good at making others fall in love with you. Unfortunately, you never seem to attract the ones that really matter. You thought of Diana. Your chest constricted and you got angry again.
“Just magic,” the woman said, shrugging off the term. “Is there many kinds?”
“‘Are there,’” you corrected her, tapping her cute, Fae-like nose. “And I’d say that there are several. There’s not a dynasty in the world that never knew of it. Civilizations across the eons have all tried to gather as much knowledge as they can. It’s like a language. Words can be translated over and over and over, and eventually, it will lose all meaning. That is magic.”
“How do you know this?” the woman asks, looking up at you with awe.
“Take it on my authority,” you sighed, sprinkling another charm in between your words. “If you can help me, then I’ll help you bring back something ‘magical.’ But only if you help me.”
“Let me know how I can!” she said eagerly.
What could be the simplest way to explain everything? “There are two artifacts I’m looking for. Two very specific pieces. I must find the real ones, not any other lookalikes or recreations. A crown and a spear.”
The woman’s face softened grievously. “That will be very difficult,” she explained. “There are thousands of those from this current generation alone.”
“Oh, I feared you’d say that,” you sighed. “These artifacts span back a long time ago. Both are Greek in origin. The crown, well, its legend says that Aphrodite herself lost it during war. And the spear is very specifically the Thyrsus of Dionysus. I do realize that it will be hard to find, but I’m hoping that perhaps you and your syndicate have come across it…?”
The woman blinked. “Well. Maybe. I need more specifics. What do they look like?”
Irritated, you sighed. A part of you hoped that just a description would suffice. “Aphrodite’s crown” seems like something someone would just know about, without needing a description foretold.
“It’s…silver. After all this time, it will remain so. It was mended and infused with the magic of Gods, so it will never tarnish; it will never rust. It will always be Aphrodite’s paragon.”
Indeed, the tiara was Aphrodite’s favored possession, which she mourned the loss of for some time. If you found it…
Not only would you gain your freedom. You’d earn your mother’s happiness. The smile on her face upon receiving her lost thing would be because of you.
Dare to dream, a voice whispered in your head; it sounded eerily like Diana’s.
You led the woman, your new friend, around other exhibits as you did your very best to funnel images of the two artifacts you so desperately needed. As much detail as you could. It was an overload for the poor mortal’s brain. You had to ease up and funnel little percentages of magic in intervals. Giving the woman some time to breathe, you let her take a seat on a marble bench. You found her a glass, not filled with champagne, and thrust it in her hand. “You’re alright,” you compelled her.
She took ginger sips of her water. “I’m alright,” she assured you, once again mistaking the words for an idea of her own device.
“Don’t you know anyone that’s heard of these things?” you asked her. “You have connections, right?”
“I do!” she said eagerly. “I just have to-”
“Y/n!” A loud voice boomed in your ears. You clamped your hands around your ears.
The voice wasn’t coming from an external force; it was coming from within you. The Voice of the Gods often flowed past your brain, going from the inside out and pushing into your ears. This Voice was Diana’s. You whipped around and saw Diana storming down the hall, her heels attacking the marbled floors as she charged your way.
You tried to rush at her and stop her from doing whatever it was she was prepared to do. Kill you? Perhaps. Behead you? Maybe. String you up with her lasso and shame you? Sure.
If you were lucky, she’d just kick your ass.
“What’s going on here? The place reeks of magic. What the hell are you up to?” her Voice demanded.
“Hello, Diana,” you said aloud, trying to remain cordial and ignore the fact that she was yelling at you.
Diana took one look at the woman sipping her water and her eyes filled with rage. You hadn’t ever felt the brunt of her full fledged anger before; you have a feeling you’re about to.
Her eyes took hold of the woman on the bench. She could see what you were seeing: the golden, glowing cloud in the woman’s aura. Gods could see magic, and your magic, the compulsion, persuasion, was golden and bright, like glitter and a setting sun.
You actually felt like cowering down from her as she tried not to yell. “Do you even know her name?” she demanded.
Your cheeks burned. “No,” you muttered. You felt, surprisingly, ashamed.
Diana physically restrained herself, taking a deep breath of composure as she brushed past you to your informant. She tugged on the woman’s elbow to capture her attention. “What’s your name?” she asked carefully. It was difficult for her to get the woman’s undivided attention. The woman looked lost without you directly at her side. The lack of magic triggered a dizziness in the woman’s brain.
“Fiona Solway,” she responded. If she noticed the tensions running between you and Diana, she didn’t say anything. She looked around Diana’s shoulder. The physical taughtness of her shoulders relaxed when she caught sight of you. “Fiona,” Diana said, trying to remain pleasant. “Did my friend even ask your name?”
You physically started at the sound of Diana’s voice; though she said ‘friend’, she didn’t sound at all ‘friendly’, making the term sound negative.
“No,” Fiona said, sounding not at all offended. Your magic was too deep in her head for her to care. Her urge to follow you, to receive more magic from that direct connection you’d created, was too strong. It interfered with her mortal nature. It interfered with her mind and her person.
The look Diana gave you was grave. It made your heart sink into your stomach. You really would have preferred it if Diana had punched you square in the boobs.
“She has connections,” you told Diana. “She can help us find the artifacts.”
“Is my help just not enough for you?” Diana seethed. “Bringing a mortal into this? A human? I told you I could help you and I really want to. But this is a dangerous search! We don't know where either of the Artifacts are, or who they're with. Didn't you ever contemplate the fact that there could be others looking for them? Magic runs deep into gangs and mobs and cults. I can guarantee you that we aren't the only ones who know.”
You felt the urge to cry, the sensation pricking at corners of your eyes. “It’ll be fine,” you managed to scowl, crossing your arms. The grip of yourself was enough to keep you from unravelling completely. But still, your emotions were coming off as stark anger and attitude, which Diana didn’t seem to appreciate.
“Fiona doesn’t mind,” you snapped.
Diana’s brown eyes were blown wide with anger. You could see her aura, billowing silver and red and blue, like magic was pluming off of her. She was trying to contain herself, but the Voice that rang loudly in your head was enough notice for you that she was very close to losing it. You felt small.
“She won’t be coming with us,” Diana’s Voice echoed. “I recommend you break whatever spell you’ve put her under.”
With a burning face, you turned back to Fiona, who was typing away on her cell phone.
You sat beside her, ignoring the burning glare of Diana, who watched you like an impatient mother, her foot tapping away and all.
“Small change in plans,” you said warmly as you rubbed Fiona’s shoulder. “I don’t need your help anymore.”
Fiona looked up from her phone, her nose scrunching in confusion. “I already put out an alert for the crown, though,” she said in a tiny voice. The heartbreak she felt as though she had displeased you made Diana suck in a deep, frustrated breath.
“No, it’s okay,” you told her. “You’ve helped me enough. I think you can go, now,” you added, pushing in another gentle wave of magic. Very suddenly, her mood changed. She nodded and looked happy to have helped. “Okay! I hope you can find them. Do I still get something magical?” she asked, then, looking to have remembered what you promised.
Diana made an impatient sound. “Are you kidding me?” she swore in Ancient Greek.
“I have something for you right now!” you told Fiona, sending Diana a bitter look. You looked around for something, something very small, easy to manage, and also easy to infuse with some form of magic.
You saw a wandering waiter with another tray of flutes filled with sparkling wine. You rushed, grabbed one, and-
“You’ve had enough to drink as it is,” Diana said sharply. She reached out to grab the drink from you, but you evaded her with a graceful spin on your toes.
Diana couldn’t use full magic like most other Gods. She could do basic enchantments, a handful of charms; but not spells. Not like the one you were going to attempt to do. It seemed easy in nature. Judging by the radius of the glass, which you were roughly estimating one point four three, perhaps point five, the entire structure was strong enough to handle the magic you were about to bind to it.
“Erueka,” you told Fiona pleasantly. “It’s a regenerative lust poition. You can drink it and it would refill on its own. Though, I don’t recommend doing that,” you added as a warning before you let her take it in her hands.
Fiona didn’t seem to be impressed. You frowned, and then looked at Diana for some praise.
She looked equally unimpressed.
“Well, pass it back, then,” you muttered as you took the flute away from Fiona. You poured it on the floor, making Diana swear in shame. Fiona’s eyes glittered as the flute refilled itself, the champagne bubbling right back up to the top.
“Someone could slip in that,” Diana hissed at you.
“It’s amazing! What if the glass breaks?” Fiona asked with curiosity tremoring in her words.
You blinked as you thought. “Then the whole spell would probably be broken,” you concluded.
“Did you bind the spell to the glass or to the champagne?” Diana’s irate Voice asked.
“I bound the spell to the glass itself,” you told Fiona, feigning wise knowledge beyond years. Diana fought for your attention in your head as you explained the overall gist of the brand new Lust Potion you’d just now made on a whim.
“So always have protected sex,” you added to Fiona. “And feel free to show that to your friends. I must say, magic based orgies are certainly the best to attend.”
Diana looked tempted to punch you square in the pelvis. She appeared to want to physically harm you. This was alright.
Fiona, drunk and dazed from the sudden magic of various opinion, stumbled away with the glass in hand.
You could feel the tether between you, and her, stretching as she moved farther and farther away. You knew, though, that tether would never break. At least not for a long time.
Diana knew that, too.
“You ruined that woman’s life,” Diana said. To put her voice as sounding ‘cross’ is much too gentle. She wasn’t ‘cross.’ She was ‘enraged.’
“I just saved that woman’s life,” you argued. “She’ll never have to worry about miserable relationships lacking sex. So long as she keeps that glass safe.”
Diana did not find this funny.
“I don’t see the harm,” you defend yourself as you cross your legs. You looked up at her from your spot on the cold bench, examining your nails as a way to appear nonchalant.
“The ‘harm’ is that you’ve outwardly exposed magic to a mortal. The ‘harm’ is that you just gave a human the potion for the very thing all humans crave the most.”
“What, a good rutt?” you chortled.
“Intimacy,” Diana said fiercely. “Humans would fight tooth and nail and claw for the guaranteed chance of intimacy. Of being wanted by someone who would otherwise not want you back. Do you know how that could hurt someone? Especially if it got in the wrong hands? What if she drugs another person with it? That person would be feeling that way against their will. But you didn’t think about that. You didn’t think about the consequences of your actions. You never do. You’ve been spoiled your entire life, and now you’ve come to this realm just to wreak havoc?”
You rolled your [hue] eyes to the sky. “You're a prude,” you spat.
“And you're a brat with the most morosoph of principles,” Diana spit back, using twice the amount of venom you had.
Any other day you'd be able to let such words roll off the shoulders. But today?
Though technically unable to get drunk off mortal alcohols, you did feel a slight tenderness to your belly and chest. And head. And really all over.
Lo! Was it heartache? Love sickness?
The intrepid act of defiance against Diana might have been described, by a licensed professional, as an act of begging for attention. Maybe you wanted to see Diana jealous. Maybe you wanted to see her angry.
You'd gotten part of your wish.
With a pursed expression of anger (fueled by shame! As if it wasn't bad enough) you brushed past Diana’s shoulders.
“You don't even know where you're going,” Diana called after you.
“I'll take a taxi,” you fumed.
“You still need to give the driver an address,” Diana called back. “If you can tell me the name of the resort we’re even staying at, then fine. I’ll let you go.”
You jeered to a stop.
You turned back around and folded your arms over your chest. “Give me the title of our inn,” you spat.
Diana chuckled bitterly. “‘Title of our inn’?” she repeated.
“Exòloio,” you spat.
“You're acting like a drunken bitch,” Diana seethed.
You gasped. “I wish I never came here in the first place,” you shouted.
Diana grabbed you by the wrist, pulling you close and glaring into your very soul. Your breath hitched. You and Diana were chest to chest, breathing hard and snarling at each other like rabid wolves ready to pounce at each other.
With all the aggression of Athena, Diana wrenched you along as she marched outside the museum.
Night had fallen by now. Had it been that long? Maybe you were drunk.
“Fiona!” Diana shouted.
Fiona was easily traceable in the lingering crowd loitering around the venue. Fiona turned around, looking half dead. Her eyes were glossy. Void.
But when she caught sight of you and Diana, she was filled with life. She came over to you like a doe prancing through flowers.
“Hello,” Fiona said happily. She clutched her spelled glass like it was her lifeline.
Diana finally released you. You wanted to tend to your wrist, rub and ease the pain Diana had caused, but doing so would have admitted to Diana that she had an effect on you.
“May I please see that?” Diana asked kindly.
She pointed a manicured finger to the spelled champagne flute. Fiona shrugged naively as she handed the flute to Diana.
“No!” You shouted at Diana, already knowing what she would do the minute she had it within her grasp.
Diana threw the glass at the ground, the spellbound artifact shattering. A piercing pain shot through you, like a spinal headache in its most concentrated form.
The broken glass reverted to the oldest form as Diana waved a hand over it. The shards melted into grains of sand, blowing away in the wind.
You were tempted with the urge to lunge at Diana and wrestle her to the ground, maybe even punch her in the breasts a few times.
“Why'd you do that?” Fiona asked Diana. Her mouth was quivering. She looked like a toddler.
“Look at what you've done,” Diana seethed to you, gesturing to Fiona’s slightly pathetic displays.
You knew what Diana was talking about. The magical inebriation effect on mortals was far more serious than it was on a Demigod or Amazonian.
Fiona Solway was simply a victim of the inebriation. Your magic had seeped into her very being and now most of her life subconsciously revolved around you.
It would wear off once the physical distance between you two increased. But right now, Fiona was utterly devastated to have lost the gift you'd given her. Tears dribbled down her face, and she wiped them away with confusion. “You broke it,” Fiona saidm sounding void of any emotions. Her face contorted before she covered it with her hands and cried. Diana looked frightened as she tried to comfort Fiona, who simply looked to you for comfort, the way a puppy would look at his master.
“Can’t I have another one?” she asked, her lip quivering. “I’ll take better care of it.”
Diana’s horror was blatant. “Look at what you’ve done to her,” she cried.
“She would have been fine once some…physical distance…was between us,” you argued, the feeble attempt to get Diana off your back failing. Diana pushed you aside.
“Let me handle this,” she said bitterly as she held her hands out to Fiona. Fiona took them, looking hopeful for another chance to redeem herself in your eyes. Redemption in your eyes was all Fiona could think about. You could feel her shame pulsing down the one way tether as she shivered in Diana’s gentle grasp. Diana chewed her lip. Magic of a demigod was not as strong as magic of a god. But Diana’s magic was fixating to the center of the enthrallment spell you’d placed so lovingly on Fiona. Diana’s magic shattered it and it left Fiona feeling faint.
“How do you feel?” Diana asked. You could see the remnants of your spell shattering to the ground, fluttering like crystal snow and shining like your favorite gemstones.
“Weird,” Fiona said. “Who are you guys, again?”
“Diana, the curator of the final exhibit you saw. You and I spoke about my work. My friend, Y/n, did a magic trick for you. But you had to leave for bed because you had a few too many glasses of champagne and now you have a headache. You’re excited to come back tomorrow to tour the rest of the remaining exhibits. You had a lot of fun tonight.”
“I had a lot of fun tonight!” Fiona said happily. Her face had completely morphed and she could now look at you without feeling a heart wrenching pain in the pit of her stomach. She bid you goodbye, which you half heartedly reciprocated, and she hailed a taxi.
She left.
Diana turned to glower at you.
Her aura was shimmering with sapphire blue and tinsel-like strands. Her magic was stronger than you had last seen it. Maybe it was the anger that was flowing in her, which was evident to see outside of her aura.
“Thank you,” you said dumbly.
“That’s all you have to say?” Diana asked.
“I didn’t foresee you getting so angry about something so miniscule,” you snipped, putting your nose in the air. You should apologize, admittedly, for ruining her night.
“Doling out magic to random human women you want to play with is irresponsible and idiotic. You should know better than to do such a thing! You’re unrecognizable right now! What happened to you in the brief hours I was away from you? Do I have to keep you on a leash? Well, you’d probably just like that.”
Diana’s words cut deep.
Whatever apology you’d been brewing burnt and shrivled up.
She really said that, huh?
“You’re a bitch. I didn’t realize a pesky mortal sideeffect of being a demigod was getting your period.”
Diana looked half ready to throw you across the street. Her strength was admittedly twice that of any average god you could find On The Mountain; could you take her in a fight? No. Did you want to take her in a fight? Not particularly.
“I’m ready to go to sleep,” you sighed; upon finding yourself backed against a wall, facing an opponent such as Diana, all you could do was talk yourself out of it. Talking is your most formidable weapon, be it against an enemy, or against yourself. You’re good at it.
“Fine. Let’s go,” Diana seethed. She hailed a taxi, keeping her back to you at all times.
She pulled the door open and wrenched your arm in her grip as she harshly ushered you inside. Your skin burned under the touch of her hot motions. Your chest grazed hers as she pushed you into the car, and the motion had your heart beating faster than a hummingbird’s. But the anticipation was one sided, clearly, as Diana shut the car door. She told the address to the driver and let him speed away.
Without her.
You were stunned.
You hadn’t realized how dependent on Diana you were until you arrived back at the hotel.
You couldn’t find your room, so you lingered at the front desk and demanded the room information.
That process required identity verification, which is apparently hard to do without an identity card. People carry their names on little cards as a way to prove their identity. That’s understandable, at least for celebrities and politicians. But what do common folk need to prove their names for?
It’s needless. It causes unnecessary strife.
You did make it back to your bedroom, after a long talk with the evil mortal who guards the hotel’s intelligence desk. He seemed judgemental over the fact you didn’t have an identity card. Or anything with your name on it. If he knew the raw force he was reckoning with he would not be so smug nor so cocky.
And still-you couldn’t help but feel sad over the fact that Diana had not been there to watch you triumph the little mortal. The wee man was no match for your pure persistence.
Diana would pay for the shame she brought upon you tonight. She made you feel guilty and over something miniscule. She didn’t have the right to do such things! She doesn’t own you. She doesn’t know the ways On The Mountain. The laws and principles of that such place are merely different. Starkly different.
You were able to undress yourself. You were able to bathe.
As the shower water beated down on you, you could see your aura shimmering like dull copper on your [hue] skin. Diana was really bringing you down.
You wouldn’t apologize, though, she owed you that.
After bathing, you flickered through the various selections that the television had to offer. The show you’d become so fond of, Friends, wasn’t anywhere to be found.
You felt sick.
Upon not finding your familiar show anywhere, a sinking feeling grew in your belly.
You missed Diana. Where was she? When would she come back?
Maybe you should apologize.
Maybe you should go out and look for her!
You laid back in the bed, twiddling your thumbs in your lap as you stared at the ceiling. The soundless room was somehow the loudest thing you’d ever heard.
You’d never felt this way.
This horrible, sick feeling was never spoken of On The Mountain. This sickness…it was making you anxious.
No. Worse. The sickness is the anxiousness. It’s anxiety.
You sat up, groaning and audibly distressing.
How could this be? A magic slip up and mortal fears, in one night?
There came a knock at the door. You leapt out of bed, your stomach immediately feeling relieved of its pain. Diana was back. Diana, Diana, you’re so sorry. You’ll never do it again.
You pulled open the door, already voicing your apologies-
To Fiona Solway. And to an angry looking, sword wielding, Hephaestus.

Robyn woke up with a jump from feeling heavy licks and pressure on her torso. In the morning twilight she is able to make out Lily standing over her and feels the labrador continuously shaking her with her paws.
“Wha? Lil?”
With a small bark Lily quickly jumps down and runs to Emma’s bed. She gives Robyn a mournful look before carefully jumping up to Emma's side.
Robyn sleepily rubs her eyes and then realises what is happening as she registers Emma’s faint groans and gasps of breath.
Stumbling to her feet, Robyn quickly moves to Emma’s side and sees Lily lying on Emma’s torso.
“Em, hey, you’re okay. You’re safe.” Robyn repeats over and over as she tries to soothe the agitated blonde.
Finally Emma’s husky groans stop and her breathing returns to some normality. Suddenly her eyes shoot open as she jerks awake.
“Hey, hey, you’re okay. You’re in Midvale, you had a nightmare. Everything is okay.” Robyn says softly, trying to reassure a clearly frightened Emma who has tears streaming down her face. “Take a deep breath for me, Em.”
Robyn watches Emma who follows her hand motion of when to breathe and exhale.
“That’s it, you’re doing great.”
A gentle knock on the door makes them look over and J’onn quietly enters.
“Everything okay?”
“Nightmare.” Robyn responds and J’onn nods.
He walks over to Emma’s side and gently tucks a few damp hairs away from Emma’s face. “How bout we take Lily for a walk?” He offers and Emma barely nods. “I’ll go change and be right back.”
Emma watches him leave and moves to get up, she stumbles slightly and Robyn has to reach out to stop her from falling.
“Easy Em.” Robyn whispers and watches the blonde nod and sluggishly pick up her clothes from yesterday to change into. Robyn decides to do the same, figuring out she won’t be able to get back to sleep anyway.
Emma gives her a questioning look but Robyn just shrugs and follows her down to the back room where Eliza is filling two flasks with hot liquid.
“Thought you’d like some hot chocolate on your walk.” Eliza smiles lovingly at her daughter and Emma gives her a small smile back. Eliza tightly hugs her daughter, feeling worried at how her eyes aren’t as bright as they should be.
“Ready to go?” J’onn asks, holding out her coat and trainers for her. Emma nods and puts them on, she snorts at how quickly Lily’s tail wags while she waits patiently by the door.
The trio leave and Robyn sits heavily on the stool at the island, resting her head on her fist.
“I’m making myself a coffee, would you like one too?”
Robyn looks tiredly up at the older blonde. “Yes please.”
Eliza begins preparing the drinks and Robyn sighs heavily as she rubs her forehead.
“Are you alright?” Eliza asks the brunette.
“Yea, I’ve just never been good at being woken up quickly. Or so early.”
“Jeremiah, Emma and Alex’s father, was the same.” Eliza chuckles and places the mug in front of Robyn and sits next to her on the other stool. “One time he got up to feed Emma but I could hear her fussing. I looked over at them and he’d fallen back to sleep with the bottle teat by the side of her mouth. Poor baby couldn’t get to it.”
“He sounds like he was a good man.” Robyn smiles at the older woman.
“He was. He always believed in our girls.” Eliza sips her coffee.
“Must have been hard for you.” Robyn says softly, remembering the story Emma told her of her father. How she holds onto what he was like before he was captured and changed. Seeing the sadness with Eliza’s eyes, Robin decides to change the topic. “Do you have those photos of Em as a baby?”
“Of course!” Eliza chuckles and finds Emma’s photo book. “I always wanted to make sure every milestone was recorded for each of my girls.”
“Your science background is showing.” Robyn jokes as she opens the book, smiling at a toddler Alex hugging Eliza’s swollen stomach.
“I guess it is.” Eliza smiles and they continue looking through the photos. Eliza points at mostly all of them and tells Robyn the story that goes along with it.
The first time Emma walked on her first birthday to try and follow Alex. The pride the family felt at her first word, how she quickly started singing and bouncing to music. On and on the stories go and Robyn smiles at the pride within Eliza’s eyes.
They near the end of the book and Eliza excuses herself to go get changed. Robyn continues to flick through and comes to the photo showing Emma and Lena beaming at the camera.
Robyn taps the surface of the island in time with a song on the radio while she sips her coffee. She stares at the photo and can’t help but feel torn. She knows Emma loves her family but something isn’t sitting right with the Brit.
She hears footsteps upstairs and knows the others will be down soon to begin the next session with Alistair.
She ponders on what else could be said as she feels a lot of the main issues have been aired. She sips her drink and wonders whether she can air her thoughts about a certain raven haired woman.
“Good morning.” Lena says politely while cautiously entering the room to the coffee machine.
“Morning.” Robyn utters back coolly, causing Lena to turn and gaze at her.
“You don’t like me do you?”
“No shit Sherlock.” Robyn sasses and Lena’s shoulders deflate and turns back to the coffee machine. Robyn frowns at this sign of weakness being shown by the CEO.
“I completely understand, I would feel the same way if I was in your position.” Lena starts the machine and leans against the kitchen counter.
“Well, let’s hope you never have to be in a position like this.” Robyn growls and taps the cup in her hands. “To see someone you love believe she is worth nothing, that something is so wrong with her that she doesn’t deserve love. That she questions every interaction she has and shuts down when things get too much.”
Lena lowers her head but before she can respond some of the others enter the room.
“Everything okay?” Kara asks and makes a beeline for Lena.
“Yup.” Robyn says, emphasising the end of the word and stands to go over to Lucy who is patting the cushion next to her for Robyn to sit on.
Kara places a comforting hand on Lena’s shoulder as she looks in concern at Lena’s sad face. “Is she upsetting you?”
Lena shakes her head but Kara wraps her arms around her anyway. They hug and Lena buries her head into Kara’s shoulder.
“Okay everyone, please gather around.” Alistair says, grabbing everyone’s attention.
Kara and Lena break apart, Kara takes her best friend’s hand and leads Lena to the circle of chairs. “Where’s Emma?” Kara asks with a frown as she notices her sister’s absence.
“She’s taken Lily for a walk.” Robyn explains and see’s Alex tense up. “J’onn went with her.” She quickly explains and Alex nods in appreciation for the information.
Movement outside the door catches everyone’s attention and a knock echoes around the room. Kara zips over and opens it.
“Agent Reiff?”
“Good morning, may I come in?”
“Oh, yes, please.” Kara steps aside and the agent enters.
“Director.” Agent Reiff nods at Alex who approaches quickly.
“What’s going on?” Lucy asks as she looks between the two. Alex motions for Reiff to continue.
“We managed to do the clean up before the news crews got there, made the site look as if the storm caused the mudslide rather than a boulder breaking cleanly in half. Agent Vasquez wanted me to show you this.” Reiff pulls out a tablet and holds it out for Alex.
The redhead takes it and swipes through the photos. The Danvers crinkle making an appearance on her face.
“Alex?” Eliza asks in concern.
“How many?”
“We estimate roughly six bottles or more.” Agent Reiff answers quietly, aware how delicate this information may be.
Alex sighs lightly. “And the contents?”
“Alien alcohol.”
“Shit.” Alex mutters. “Okay, thank you. Have agents continue to monitor and patrol the area. We will review when we are back at the DEO.”
Agent Reiff nods and Alex hands back the tablet. She stares ahead for a moment, deep in thought while the agent heads back out of the house.
“Alex?” Sam gets up and heads over to her fiance, clearly seeing that Alex was getting more and more agitated. “You okay?”
Shaking her head Alex marches out of the room and up the stairs.
“She’s going to find the rest of the bottles.” Alistair explains to the group, immediately causing Kara and Sam to run after the redhead.
“But Emma won’t like Alex going through her things.” Lena says with wide eyes and quickly follows them. She rushes up the stairs and hears Kara and Alex arguing.
“-calmly ask her about it!”
“Kara! Let go of me!” Alex snaps as Lena stands in the doorway. She pauses at the sight of the opened suitcase on the floor full of empty bottles and Kara firmly holding onto Alex.
“No! Not until you’ve calmed down.” Kara says determinedly. “We are trying to help her, not shame her or cause more friction.”
Sam steps forward and tenderly moves Alex’s hair out of her eyes. “I understand why you would be upset by this, but Kara is right.”
The stairs creak and Lena’s head spins to see who it is. Emma stares back at Lena in confusion and Lena’s stomach drops.
“She’s here.” Lena calls and the trio freeze. Emma hesitantly approaches her ex, and looks into her room. Her eyes immediately land on the suitcase of bottles and she swallows deeply.
Her chest stings with hurt at witnessing her things being rummaged through and her shame burns her cheeks. However, she takes a deep breath and steps into the room, kneels down and zips the suitcase back up.
“Little one?” Kara queries, still holding onto Alex who had remained frozen, her chest still heaving slightly from her outburst.
Emma straightens up and lifts the suitcase by the handle. The unmistakable rattling of empty bottles fills the silence and Emma motions with her head for them to follow her downstairs.
The four women follow the blonde into the back room where Emma lifts the suitcase onto the coffee table and opens it, revealing it to be packed with mostly empty bottles.
Emma lowers her head and moves to her seat where Lily is already waiting for her. The dog’s tail starts pounding against the sofa, Emma gives her a small smile and sits. Making Lily immediately place her head on her lap and snuggles in. Emma yawns and rubs her eyes, clear fatigue is etched on her face.
“Good morning Emma.” Alistair softly greets her and Emma echoes his welcome back in her mind.
“Would anyone like a drink before we start?” Eliza offers, noticing Emma didn’t have one. “Sweetheart?”
Emma’s tired eyes lift up to hers and she nods.
“She would like an apple juice, please.” Fay answers for Emma and she signs her thanks.
Emma settles back and closes her eyes while she strokes Lily’s fur. She tries to block out the different conversations happening around the room but it’s difficult. Her mind races with shame with what the others must think and how she is going to explain herself.
“Here you go sweetheart.”
Emma opens her eyes and takes the glass of cool apple juice from her mom, nodding her thanks.
She sips the tangy liquid and glances over at J’onn. He nods encouragingly at her and she takes a deep breath in to calm herself.
They mostly walked in silence, enjoying each other’s company but they had also discussed how yesterday had gone and how they were both feeling. They even sensed how today’s session could be harder than the previous one, causing J’onn to vow to support her, whatever happens.
“So, are we all ready?” Alistair draws everyone’s attention and they stop their conversations. Alistair waits for them to settle before talking again. “Before we discuss what is in front of us, Fay and I were both able to detect you were all holding back yesterday. Which is understandable, however, this is a safe place where no judgement should be passed.” He glances around the room and everyone nods before focusing on Emma. “Emma, would you like to explain about the bottles?”
‘Do I have to?’ Her mind asks apprehensively.
“We won’t force you.” Alistair responds and Emma shifts in her seat, feeling uneasy.
‘No, I need to.’ Emma sighs heavily and looks up at the ceiling. Unable to look anyone in the eye. Lily sits up and watches her carefully, her head tilting to the side in concentration. ‘I started drinking after the breakup with Lena. A few here and there at Robyn’s, then when I went to Europe I had a glass with each meal. But it then slowly increased over time and I found myself having more and more. A glass became two, to half a bottle, to a full bottle, to many bottles. I can see now it’s developed into a problem and I’m sorry. I know you guys are being sober but it was like an itch I needed to scratch. It would help numb what I was feeling, so I’d have a bottle or two in the evening after everyone went to bed. I’m sorry.’
Emma scrunches up her eyes and feels Lily nuzzling her nose into her cheek, sensing her distress.
“Sweetheart? Can you please look at us?” Her Mom’s voice breaks, causing Emma to lower her head and slowly open her eyes. But instead of looks of shame or disgust, she sees expressions of compassion and understanding on everyone’s faces.
Emma’s worried eyes focus on Alex’s. She notices how troubled her sister looks. She tilts her head, asking Alex to voice her thoughts.
“Alex?” Fay voices out.
Alex bites her lips before finally talking. “I understand how easy it is to use alcohol as a means to run away from your emotions. But, we can help you overcome it.”
“If you want.” Kara adds quickly but Emma is already nodding.
“I’m also sorry that I searched for the bottles instead of asking you, I just-” Alex’s face is overcome with emotion and she sighs heavily.
‘It’s okay.’ Emma thinks and Alex sniffs.
“Due to the nature of the group we have sponsors within the DEO and meet separately. Lena and Alex suggested it and we all started together.” J’onn reiterates what he explained to her on their walk and Emma nods.
The room is quiet for a moment and Robyn lifts her hand. “Question.”
“Yes Robyn?” Alistair asks.
“How did the whole sobriety thing start? From what Emma told me, you all like your drink.”
Lena fidgets in her seat and plays with her hands. She looks timedly over at Alex, who seems to be silently communicating with her.
“Well, if you must know.” Alex begins telling Robyn and the others exactly what happened.
— — —
It has been over a month since Emma disappeared and Alex is sitting on her sofa in Sam’s apartment and nursing her fourth whiskey. She stares mournfully at her laptop on the coffee table. Despite her Mom telling her not to, Alex keeps trying to hack Emma’s devices to find her sister’s location.
“Where are you?” Alex whispers and takes a sip of her drink. Feeling the burn slide down her throat and course through her system.
The results ping up, making Alex feel a surge of hope. But the hope quickly drops when they show the word she is dreading: Inconclusive.
“Fuck sake.” Alex slurs out and slams the lid of her laptop down. She flops back onto the sofa and downs her drink. Tears prick at her eyes and she presses her lips together. Her gaze falls on the collage of photos on the wall, the beaming smiles of her family and friends. Her eyes land on Lena, pressed up against Emma and beaming at the camera. Alex’s blood starts to boil.
Without much thought Alex angrily stumbles to her feet and grabs her jacket. She hops on the spot to get her boots on but manages in the end. Alex storms from the apartment and punches the call button on the elevator. She taps her foot impatiently until she's down in the lobby where she's stomp outside to hail a cab. In no time she’s in front of Lena’s apartment and she raises her fist to pound on the door.
But the raven haired woman doesn’t answer, making Alex grumble and seethe as she can clearly see the glow of the lights coming from within the apartment.
“Hope, let me in.” Alex orders.
“I do not believe that is wise due to your heightened level of-”
“Hope, please.” Alex snaps and hears the whirl of the locks. The redhead quickly opens the door and searches for her sister’s ex.
Alex can’t help but notice Emma’s things still placed around the apartment. Her paintings, notebooks, instruments, clothes...
But what she can’t find is Lena, until she turns to the bedroom and notices the door is closed. Rolling her eyes she storms over but before she slams open the door, she hears Lena sobbing through it.
Her eyebrows furrow tightly. ‘Why is she crying?’
Sighing heavily, Alex knocks on the door and enters. The room is dimly lit and she spots Lena’s head poking above the bed, sitting on the ground next to what was Emma’s side.
Alex stumbles around the bed and makes her presence known by clearing her throat. She can’t help but feel a pang of sympathy for the raven haired woman as she jumps and stares wide eyed up at her.
“Alex?” Lena squeaks out, which Alex would have found funny if her emotions weren’t raging inside her.
“You broke her. I told you what would happen if you ever hurt her.” Alex grits out, she watches as Lena’s face crumbles and she lowers her head.
“I know.” Lena sobs out and clutches something close to her chest.
Alex slowly kneels down to face the distraught CEO. She frowns and notices the almost empty bottle of Scotch next to Lena. “What’s wrong? Why are you so upset? You are the one that ended it.”
Lena shakes her head. “I can’t.”
“Can’t what?”
But Lena just keeps shaking her head.
“Lena.” Alex places a hand on Lena’s shoulder, concern seemingly replacing her anger.
Slowly Lena holds her clenched fist out and opens her hand.
Revealing a ring with an emerald diamond.
Alex stares at it, dumbfounded.
“You- you didn’t know?” Lena hiccups as her bloodshot eyes study Alex’s reaction.
Alex shakes her head, unable to speak.
‘When was Emma going to tell me she wanted to propose?’ Her mind races as she tries to pinpoint any conversations she had with her baby sister but comes up blank.
“Where was it?” Alex asks softly.
“In her drawer.”
“Why were you looking?!”
“I was going to start moving her things out and I-” Lena says but her throat closes up with emotion and her head drops forward. More tears pour from her eyes and she clutches at the ring again. “I should die because of what I did.”
“Wow! Hey! No!” Alex says sharply, causing Lena to flinch when she grabs her shoulders. “Lena, look at me.”
Slowly Lena raises her head and stares sorrowfully at Alex.
“Yes I am really angry at you.” Alex grits out and lets out a deep breath. “But you aren’t solely to blame for Emma leaving.”
Lena shakes her head and starts to sob again, despite trying to hold them in.
Alex pulls her friend into a hug and knows there must be more that Lena isn’t saying.
But for now, Alex just holds her.
— — —
“Then Sam and Kara came over and we stayed with Lena that night. In the morning we both had killer hangovers and decided to be sober. Once we told everyone they joined us too.”
Robyn nods and Emma sniffs heavily. She wipes a tear away, hating the thought of how low Lena got.
“But?” Fay prompts Robyn, who does look like she wants to ask another question.
“Why are you all so chummy with Luthor when she broke Emma’s heart?” Robyn glares around the room. “Why not leave her alone after that?”
“Lena.” Fay says quickly and glances over at Emma, who’s looking irritatedly at Robyn. “Her name is Lena.”
Robyn sighs and juts her jaw to the side. “Okay, sorry. I’d like to know why Lena is still a part of your friendship group.”
“She’s one of us.” Kara says softly. “Despite what she did, we forgave her.”
Others in the group nod and a tear slides down Lena’s cheek that she quickly wipes away.
But Robyn’s frown deepens.
“I really wanted to hate her.” Alex admits darkly. “I really wanted to give her a piece of my mind, but then I saw how broken she was and in a worse state than me. In the end, I just couldn't hate her.”
Lena sniffs. “I know I don’t deserve the love and support they give me.”
Kara reaches out and takes Lena’s hand, giving it a gentle squeeze of support.
Emma watches and feels a pang of hurt hit her chest, but she quickly pushes it away.
“Robyn?” Alistair asks. “Do you have something else to say?” He nods, giving her permission to voice the seething thoughts in her mind.
“I still don’t understand.” The brunette says cautiously. “What about Emma?”
The Superfriends frown at the question, some even looking over at the blonde.
“What about her?” Winn asks.
“She’s one of you right?” Robyn shoots back.
“Of course!” Nia responds, shocked that Robyn would even need to ask that.
“So where were you when she needed you?”
“Robyn.” Fay utters as Emma tries to get her attention.
“No, they need to know what you did when you came to mine.” Robyn says fiercely, her fury mounting. “She spent weeks in bed and I had to prompt her to eat, to shower and take care of herself. When I finally got her up and out of the flat her clothes were loose on her.” Robyn seethes, glaring at the group. “And do you know what she communicated to me when I asked how she was? That she was okay if she didn’t think about it. That when she does she feels like she can’t breathe and it’s just too painful.”
Emma slumps forward slightly and rubs a shaved part of her hair to try and self soothe. She understands what Robyn is doing but she still feels awkward. Lily nuzzles into her, keeping pressure on her side and keeping Emma grounded while she continues to listen.
“I spent hours holding her as she cried over you guys, how you treated her and made her feel worthless. I tried to tell her you all loved her, but I’m not so sure.”
“What?!” Kara yells in anger.
“Where were you? When she needed you guys after everything that had happened? The cancelled sister nights, or games night or whatever you all do! You let her down! But then when she left you all rallied around Lena!”
“No we didn’t!” Nia tries to fight back, remembering how she had felt awkward towards Lena for weeks. Unsure where the line was and if they were taking sides but Robyn gives her a scathing look before she can explain that.
“It sure looks that way! I’ve been watching all of you and you treat her like she hasn’t done anything wrong! That she didn’t break Emma’s heart and make her believe it was all an illusion! From where I’m standing it makes it look like you’ve chosen Lena over Emma!”
“Robyn!” Emma’s husky voice barks out but she immediately starts coughing and wheezing. Causing the heated argument to pause while Emma tries to get a hold of her breathing again.
Eliza quickly gets a glass of cool water for her daughter. “Here you go Sweetheart.”
Emma takes it and signs her thanks before taking a few sips. There is a palpable tension in the air and she quickly tries to gather her thoughts. ‘I’m okay.’
“Thank you Robyn for your honesty.” Alistair nods in appreciation and sits up in his chair. “Emma? Would you like to respond?”
Emma nods and taps the glass while she continues to think.
The Superfriends wait anxiously and she can tell her sisters want to jump in.
‘I’m torn.’ Emma takes a deep breath in and closes her eyes. ‘I’m not going to lie and say this hasn’t affected me. I was relieved when Mom told me that Lena was still part of the group. But there was a part of me that felt disappointment. But as Kara said, Lena is one of us and I wouldn’t have expected anything less.’
Emma takes a few more sips and her eyes meet Robyn’s.
‘Thank you for standing up for me, I respect your opinion but it was also slightly unfair with what you said. You knew I ran away and made it impossible for them to find me. I understand how it looks, believe me. But, I also don’t believe it’s as easy as that. I mean, your balcony doors and walls took a huge beating from Kara when she tried to find me.’
Robyn opens her mouth but Emma motions she wasn’t finished.
‘I understand what happened made you dislike Lena. How broken I was and thank you so much for being there for me. But you need to understand how deeply I still feel for her, despite what she did. But I know I need to work on myself too. That I need to repair the bridges I broke-’
“No!” Alex interrupts causing Emma’s eyes to snap to hers. “We all caused the damage. As Alistair said yesterday, we all need to work together.” She glances over at Robyn. “But we all need to be honest with each other too.” Alex hesitates and focuses back on her baby sister. “Like, when I saw you in that music video-”
— — —
The Superfriends were gathered around Kara’s coffee table for a games night. To start with they decided on playing Jenga while they waited for the pizza to arrive.
The tv was on in the background as Alex wanted to watch the news while Lena was currently trying to get a block out, her eyes were focused in concentration.
“You always go for the precarious ones!” Kara laughs.
“That’s what makes it more fun.” Lena says cheekily and grins at her.
But then her heart drops as she looks past Kara and sees Emma on the tv screen.
The tower immediately falls.
“Jenga!” Kara and the others yell.
But Sam grows concerned at her best friend’s pale face. “Lena?” She also turns to look at the tv and immediately unmutes it, causing everyone to gaze at it.
“-believed to be in London, although sources haven’t been able to confirm this. The music video, which shows Emma Danvers lip syncing, is believed to have been filmed in Egypt and was released at midnight UK time. Already we are seeing an outpouring of positive responses and speculation about who the song is about, which, I believe we can all take a guess at. Back to you in the studio.”
Alex quickly takes the remote and logs into YouTube to find the video. It doesn’t take her long due to it already being at the top of the most viewed list. She frowns at seeing the name of the song, ‘Perfect Illusion.’
The video starts playing and the sound of synths begin.
The camera zooms in on a blonde’s back as they stare out at the barren, white desert in front of them. Even from behind angle the Superfriends can tell it’s Emma.
The camera swivels around and focuses on Emma’s stoic expression.
Alex leans forward as she studies her sister’s face. Kara curls into Ben, hating the broken look in her sister’s hazel eyes.
Emma starts lip syncing perfectly to Robyn’s voice, something that is a bit jarring to everyone. To hear another voice timed with Emma’s lips.
Soon different camera angles flash up on the screen showing Emma stomping and kicking up the white sand around her as she continues to lip sync and perform. The sky continues to shift from a brilliant blue to the colours of sunset.
Lena stays frigid as she watches and listens to the lyrics. When the chorus begins, it breaks her heart in two.
‘It wasn’t love, it wasn’t love
It was a Perfect Illusion.’
The raven haired woman tries to hold it together but her eyes fill with unwanted tears and a lump forms in her throat.
When the song reaches the second verse the other members of the band are shown within the circular rig and moments of them playing in the warehouse too.
“I knew she was with them!” Lucy says exasperatedly and digs for her phone in her pocket while continuing to watch.
The second chorus hits and Emma is brokenly staring into the camera with tears streaming down her face. Her passion radiates from the screen.
“Wow.” Ben whispers out, feeling his heart being tugged at the utter pain being portrayed in Emma’s eyes.
Kara sniffs in his arms, wanting to bury her face into them but her eyes are fixed on her sister.
While the chorus proceeds, Emma lip syncs next to the band members, the camera angles tilt, representing her heartbreak and used to make the viewer feel uncomfortable with her.
The song builds and builds until the key change hits. At that exact moment Emma swings the baseball bat, bearing the words ‘FUCK YOU!’ at the camera where it switches to show her hitting a car and denting it like the metal was nothing. Glass explodes around her as Robyn’s vocals increase.
Alex lets out a slow breath as she watches the destruction happening on the screen.
“Super strength?” Brainy asks and Alex nods.
They watch as plates and glasses go flying and crash against the walls. Showing each member giving into their rage.
The final chorus begins and the intensity on the screen almost becomes overwhelming as the scene changes with flashes of light.
But near the end it shifts again and focuses back on Emma by an edge of a cliff. The sapphire sky is a stark contrast against the white of the sand.
As soon as Robyn utters the last words Emma falls heavily and rolls into the sand. Her face is pained as she voicelessly screams and sobs in the barren, white desert.
The music ends and the camera pans upwards towards the sapphire sky, the sound of Emma’s anguished breathing fills the room and the video ends.
The Superfriends don’t move or say anything, but continue to stare at the tv.
The silence is broken as Lena sniffs heavily and lowers her head into her hands. Her tears slip from her eyes and her curly hair shields her face from the others.
“Lee.” Sam utters quietly and slides off the sofa to comfort the raven haired woman.
Anguished muffled words sound out from Lena’s hands.
“What was that?”
Lena lowers her hands. “I did that to her.” She chokes out and a sob breaks through. Immediately Sam pulls her into a hug.
“I don’t think it was just aimed at you.” Alex says softly while she continues to stare at the TV. “We need to find her and fast.”
The others nod around her and the notion of a games night and pizza is forgotten as they race to the DEO.
— — —
“Then we searched through footage around London, trying to find a hint of you.” Alex explains, her eyes shining with tears.
‘That’s why you all appeared so quickly?’ Fay voices Emma’s question.
“Yes.” Brainy responds. “We were monitoring every security camera by major attractions.”
“As soon as the bus crashed through the barriers we suited up.” Nia explains and Emma nods.
Her eyes fall on Lena who seems fixated with her hands.
“So, question.” Robyn raises her hand again and glances at Lucy. “If you knew she was with me then-”
“Well, it was more of a hunch and you can’t plant bugs in someone’s home on a hunch.” Lucy shrugs and winks at the singer.
“Noted.” Robyn says softly. “But why not pursue it?”
Lucy swallows and her eyes flick over to Emma’s. “I wanted to. Believe me I wanted to catch the next flight to London, but I knew Emma needed time and I wanted her to come back on her own.”
Emma nods and signs her thanks to her friend.
“And Robyn, are you happy with their explanation about Lena?” Alistair asks and Robyn purses her lips forward.
“I guess. I mean if anything like that happened within my band, and we are as close knit as you guys, then yea. Happy, no, but I understand.”
“Good.” Alistair nods and gives Robyn a warm smile. “Are there any other questions relating to what has been said?” Alistair asks, opening the space to the group.
“I have one.” Kara says quietly and Alistair motions for her to continue. The blonde focuses on Emma, who can tell her sister doesn’t want to ask what is in her mind.
“It is okay.” Emma signs reassuringly.
“Did, I mean, were those words-” Kara says quickly but falters and goes to fiddle with her glasses. However they weren’t there as she had forgotten she hadn’t put them on today, so she ran them through her hair.
‘Did I mean them?’ Emma tilts her head, finishing Kara’s sentence for her.
“Yea.”
The room holds their breath, waiting for Emma’s answer.
‘I did.’
Everyone’s shoulders deflate other than Robyn, Alistair and Fay.
‘But that’s what art is.’ Emma tries to explain. ‘At that moment I was angry, hurt, upset and I needed to express it. The words and melody came quickly and before I knew it the song was there.’ Emma glances over at Robyn who nods, remembering how Emma’s pencil flew across the paper while she wrote the lyrics.
“It came from her heart.” Robyn says softly, focusing everyone’s attention on her. “Music is generally the same notes over and over, but it’s what you have to say that counts. And Emma chose to play out her pain.”
‘It’s just a moment in time.’ Emma adds.
“But do you still feel the same way?” Kara asks hesitantly and Emma pauses. Her eyes find Lena again, who slowly raises her head to watch Emma’s answer. She freezes when her apprehensive eyes connect with Emma’s.
‘I want to say no, but I’d be lying to you.’
“Which Emma is allowed to feel.” Alistair quickly interjects, feeling the build up of confusion and hurt in the room.
“How can we move forward and help you see we were wrong?” Sam asks while holding Alex’s hand.
Emma shrugs, unsure herself.
“May I offer a few suggestions?” Alistair injects and Emm nods. “You all experienced trauma that day, not just Emma. I believe doing group exercises, your film and game nights will help. Also-” Alistair pauses as he looks between the sisters. “You don’t need to do this right away, but Eliza told me the apartment where the attack happened is still empty. When you three feel ready, it might give you some healing to go back and make peace with what happened.” His eyes focus on Alex in particular who shifts in her seat.
The sisters nod in unison.
The rest of the session goes by quickly and soon the sun has set. They finish and say their goodbyes to the couple, offering for Lily to stay with Emma to help her heal.
“She has taken a great liking to you.” Fay smiles widely after hugging Emma. “See you soon.”
Emma waves goodbye and goes back into the house to eat dinner with her family with Lily staying close by her side.
The atmosphere is relaxed and the group joke and laugh as they eat. Afterwards the group decides to go down to the beach and build a bonfire to enjoy the crystal clear night. They sit and roast marshmallows while drinking rich hot chocolate.
Emma is listening to Winn, Kara, Lena and Brainy debate something sciency, but she cannot keep up with their discussion. However, she enjoys how passionate they are when trying to support their theory. Even if Winn gets overly exasperated to the point Ayla has to pull him back.
Emma grins and takes the last gulp of her drink before getting up.
“You okay?” Nia asks and Emma nods, motioning she is going to the water.
She stands by the water’s edge as it gently laps against the sand and takes a deep breath. Finally feeling like things could, possibly, get back to some normality. Although she still felt apprehensive about what the future could hold and whether things could repeat themselves again.
‘I AM YOUR DOOM!’
Emma flinches and frowns slightly at the monstrous voice that plays out in her mind and she remembers her dream from this morning. The same grotesque monster that demolished National City. But this time, it had destroyed her family as well.
Emma shivers at the memory, her sisters covered in blood, eyes fully dilated, staring at nothing. It had felt so real and she can’t help but feel a sense of dread.
“Hey.” Two voices greet her, making Emma jump out of her skin and slip on the sand.
“Wow!” Alex and Kara grab a hold of her to steady her footing.
“You okay?” Kara asks in concern and Emma nods, running a hand through her hair.
“We can go if-” Alex starts to say but Emma firmly shakes her head and pulls her sisters into a group hug.
They tightly hold onto each other and Emma places a kiss on their heads. Still not used to the new height difference.
“I love you.” She whispers, causing both of her sisters to tear up and Alex to lower her head.
“Love you too.” Kara responds back and sucks in her bottom lip. “Can I ask you something?”
Emma nods and Kara steps out of the hug while Alex clings to Emma, who rests her head against Alex’s.
“So, you said you still feel the same way? That it was an illusion?” Kara shuffles on her feet, worried about the answer Emma will give.
Emma takes a deep intake of breath and straightens up, allowing Alex to look at her.
She swallows and feels her throat, wanting to voice her words rather than sign them.
“I still feel- disappointed.” Emma whispers out and coughs. Kara superspeeds to grab a bottle of water and hands it to her. Emma nods her thanks and takes a few sips before continuing. “I needed you both and you weren’t there but you were for Lena.”
“I can see how that looks.” Alex says softly and steps back but keeps ahold of Emma’s hand. Seeing this, Kara takes the other. “I can’t say anything other than I’m sorry.” Alex begins. “You are my sister and you mean the world to me. I would never choose anyone over you and I’m sorry it felt that way.”
Kara nods in agreement. “Yea, I’m sorry.” Kara agrees. “But our love for you has never been an illusion. You’re our sister and we love you no matter what.”
Emma sniffs and her sisters pull her into another hug before they start heading back to the group.
“Oh and Mom wants to know your thoughts about New Years tomorrow.” Alex asks and Emma gazes at her questionaly. “If you wanna go to the party or stay at home.”
“Am I expected?” Emma asks and the sisters share a look, which Emma catches.
“Well the town knows you are here-” Kara begins and Emma nods.
“We can always go for a bit and come home.”
“Good plan.” Alex nods and squeezes her shoulder before they separate. Alex heads for Sam and Ruby roasting marshmallows and Kara goes over to Ben who is joking with Eliza.
Emma approaches Robyn, who hands Emma her new guitar to play. Emma grins and sits on a blanket, she softly strums the guitar while listening to the conversations around her. In time she stares into the fire and her eyes become unfocused and distant as she watches the dancing flame.
“May I sit here?”
A velvet voice says next to her, causing Emma to blink and look up to see Lena standing there with two steaming mugs.
Emma nods and passes the guitar back to Robyn, who gazes at Lena with less animosity than she had done.
Lena kneels down and hands her one of the mugs.
“It always amazes me how beautiful you make music sound.” Lena utters while making herself more comfortable.
Emma gives her a small smile and takes a sip of the hot chocolate. A moan escapes her lips from the velvety taste, making Lena smile and chuckle.
“I agree it’s good.” Lena takes a sip of her own before lowering her mug to her lap. “Can I tell you something?”
Emma nods and sits so she is facing Lena more.
Lena takes in a nervous, deep breath. “I understand your process of writing songs. You write from the depths of your soul and are able to connect with others. But please know, my love for you, it wasn’t an illusion. I just wanted you to know that.”
Emma lowers her head for a moment, unsure how she can respond to that.
Placing her mug on the ground she goes to sign.
“You broke my heart.”
“I know and I will regret it for the rest of my life. If I could go back and change it, I would. But I can’t. All I can do now is try to support you the best way I can. If you’ll let me?”
Emma nods slowly. “Maybe we can rebuild our friendship?” Her eyes fall to Lena's chest, where the ring sits, hidden by the raven haired beauties clothes.
“I’d like that.” Lena gives her a small smile and the pair focus on the fire in front of them. Content to sit in silence while laughter and jokes sound around them.

Paw prints on the Agent's heart🐾part 9:
Hey everyone, sorry I took so long with a part 9 for this fic series, I know it took super long but was focused on other fics and stuff sorry again especially those that asked for a part 9 so many times, I've seen your asks and ideas and much appreciated, I have seen them all and haven't forgotten you all. Just getting back into this series again.
Tag list: @retro-aesthe @blackluthxr @samustar @aznblossom @ibe-anne @lezzzbehonesthere some tags won't work here
🐺🐾🐺🐾🐺🐾🐺🐾🐺🐾🐺🐾🐺🐾🐺🐾
You were glaring at Butch coldly, specks of red dotting in your (e/c) eyes while he was talking and laughing with his friends.
"Can't you turn into your wolf form?" Lena whispered to you softly, trying to turn her head to see you from the corner of her eye but she couldn't get far from the ropes bidding her and you.
You let out a huff.
"You think I haven't tried that yet? I've tried before but they sure have used something on me that makes my powers completely useless here, these chains are made with that damned Kryptonite."
"Dammit, my mother." Lena said coldly, she wish she could have changed her so badly but she knew that that was only a distant dream that won't come true no matter how hard she try, she knew her mother was a lost cause.
"How did you even get caught in the first place?" You whispered curiously at Lena after a pause of silence between the two of you.
"Eh I...I heard you were kidnapped and I thought I could find a way too safe you. Turns out it didn't went as planned and they somehow managed to catch me." She explained nervously, she knew you'd not like when she's putting herself in danger for you, especially knowing she's already a target by her mother and group before this even.
"Lena dammit, you should have not gone alone and just have stayed safe with security guards with you. I hate to know you are caught here along with me now, atleast you are still alive tho."
Just when Lena opened her mouth to talk again you both heard yelling, gunshots and the CADMUS agents all grabbing their weapons.
"Go and kill every single one that tries to get in here, I'll stand and look after these two." Butch barked out the order and you cringe at his face, wanting to punch his stupid face in.
"Yes Sir!" The other agents yelled before beginning to spread across the place and taking hiding places to take anyone by surprise that comes in.
"You won't be getting away from the boss this time." Butch said while loading his gun, ignoring the way you and Lena glared at him.
"Too bad she won't be getting us, I think your time is over now." You said smugly, oh how you loved pressing this asshole's buttons.
Butch snarled at you, raising his hand to slap you in the face as you closed your eyes and waited for impact but before I could happen more gun fire happened and one bullet happened to went right through his hand making him yelled out in pain and shock, head whipping around in time to see DEO agent swarming the place thought the door, shooting at all the other agents shooting at them.
You suddenly felt panic flood you remembering Alex as you saw agents falling and getting wounded and bullets flying in most directions, you just hope she was okay and trying not to think the worse here and you knew she can handle herself but she wasn't bulletproof exactly like you and Kara.
Butch tried pointing his gun at you but he was quickly shot down, dropping on the floor at your feet.
One of the agents that shot him down rushed over to you and Lena in a hurry, scanning the situation quickly.
"He have the key in his pocket, hurry and get these chains off of me now." You said hurriedly at him, just wanting these damned chains off of you already and to help as much as possible.
After he have have managed to free you, you shot up to your feet quickly, almost regretting it as you become a bit dizzy, remembering the many wounds your body is still littered with and not healing quite yet from your weakened powers.
"Where is Alex? Is she okay? And Supergirl?" You asked urgently, not even bothering to hide the panic in your voice anymore.
"Last time I saw Alex was outside, with more agents and taking down them, don't know where she is now and Supergirl is at an other CADMUS base taking down that one." He said before going over to Lena and shooting at more CADMUS agents.
You looked at Lena still tied up yet, motioning to the agent to watch after her and keep her safe before you rushed toward, punching any enemy that got in front of you while you are frantically searching for Alex between all thr defeaning gun fire and chaos that is all around you, fear pushing you to go even faster.
After about five minutes you've made it outside, throwing one agent to the floor and kicking an other one that came running at you with a knife in hand.
You looked around frantically, trying to catch a glimpse of the familiar red haired agent, feeling a bit nauseated at all the blood and bodies laying around while others was screaming in pain.
With no sign of her yet you kept running as fast as you could, keeping a sharp eye out for her while taking out more CADMUS agents with pure furry.
Just then you saw her, but she was all bruised and bloodied too, and the brute agent have managed to disarm her, trying to choke her with his meaty hands as she tried punching and kicking him off of her.
You could feel the anger and adrenaline surged through you suddenly more your eyes glowing a dangerous red.
"Not today fucker." You growled under your breath and soon enough you were in wolf form, rushing towards the agent with force and speed, tackling him off of her with an angry growl, your teeth sinking into his arm painfully as he yelled in pain, sill trying to process what have just happened.
Alex bolted to sit upright, properly confused until she saw your familiar black wolf form pinning the agent on the floor with all the force in your paws, growling in his face while he closed his eyes, begging not to die until you noticed Alex from the corner of your eye as she got up and rushed to you, her hand running through your soft black fur that is caked in blood and cuts at some spots, relaxing at the calmingly pleasant feeling of her warm skin on your fur.
Alex could immediately feel relieved washing over her when seeing you are safe but she was still concerned with the bruises and blood on you. When she moved closer after getting up she couldn't resist the urge to run her hand through your fur.
She won't admit it but the have wonderd many times what your fur might feel like to the touch and if it was a fluffy as it looked and she definitely admit she loved it, she could feel how relaxed you got, almost smirking in amusement at your puppy like behaviour at the feeling.
You turned back to your human form and knocked out the agent with a fist, immediately falling over but Alex caught and made you lean against her, she could tell you were absolutely exhausted from using your powers while still in a weakened state, you held onto her tightly, relieved she's okay but fearing to let go and something might happen to her.
"Alex?" You mumbled you agaisnt her shoulder, pulling her into a tight hug despite feeling weak and hazy.
She held you closer, scanning behind you for any threats that might come your way, feeling happy to have you this close and safe, her arms wrapped around you as she hummed in acknowledgement to you.
"I'm so glad you are okay." You looked into her eyes while saying that weakly, melting at the smile she gives you while running her fingers through your hair.
"I'm so damn happy you are safe too (y/n)." She said just as softly, her brown eyes focused on yours, not even focused on the background sound that have died down completely at this point.
Your eyes flickered to her soft lips, hesitating a bit but you pulled her to you and crash your lips to hers, a blush flaring at your cheeks slightly in fear you may have done something wrong but was completely relieved when you felt one of her hands go to your cheeks and kissing you back and ignoring the steely taste of your own blood on your lip from a small cut where Butch have hitted you.
After a few moments the two of you broke away from the kiss and Alex smiled again at you a bit shyly her arms wrapping around you even more tightly.
"I've been waiting for you to do that."
You laughed lightly at her and kissed her cheek and keeping your arms wrapped around her waist.
"So does that meant you've been thinking about me kissing you hmmm?" You mused out.
"Maybe I did wolf girl." Alex teased back, not able to stop the wide smile on her face anymore, she can't care who sees this anymore, you just make her so damn happy.
"That's good hearing because I have happened to do that same thing. And so does this mean you are gonna go on a date with me finally hmm miss agent?"
Alex kissed you again, savoring the feeling of your lips against hers.
"Does this answer your question?" She asked jokingly and smile smiled again when you nodded your head eagerly.
"You have sure left paw prints on my heart." Alex laughed along with you after she have said this.
You turned around defensively when you heard footsteps approaching you and Alex fast, tensed up until you saw it's only Lena closely followed by the other agent that have helped you earlier.
"(Y/N)!" Lena said in relief, hugging you after Alex have let you go to speak with the other agent.
You hugged back, glad your long time friend is all safe too.
Alex gave the orders to have the few CADMUS agents that was still alive arrested and get medical treatment and to secure the place.
You walked up to Alex who have taken out her phone, sending a wink at you before making a call.
"J'onn?" You listen to them talking a bit and telling them you are safe with them now before she hanged up and putted her phone away, and walked to your side and liked her arm with yours.
"How is everyone else? The other agent said Kara and others went to an other base of CADMUS." You asked worriedly and felt assured when Alex smiled at you.
"They are all okay too, the have taken down that place. Lillian and Lex is still missing tho but we will catch them soon and lock them up for good." Alex assured you, squeezing your arm gently and pulling you towards one of the DEO cars where Lena waved you over to.
🐺🐾🐺🐾🐺🐾🐺🐾🐺🐾🐺🐾🐺🐾🐺🐾
(*Time skip to one week later*)
You and Kara were busy on a friendly match with each other, teasing each other endlessly while play fighting and showing each other who is stronger and faster while Alex and J'onnn watch from the side, a subtle smile on Alex's face.
"I'm happy to see you so happy with (Y/N)." J'onn said to Alex truthfully, he have noticed how happy she was and especially after the two dates you went on and those not so sneaky kisses you and her shared when you thought no one was looking.
She looked over at him, giving him a thankful smile.
"Thank you so much."
A few moments later Winn came rushing in, talking with J'onn who thanked him before watching him leave and walked over to Alex and getting both you and Kara's attention.
"I have some good news." He began, speaking clearly for you and Kara to hear too .
"Winn have found the final location of Lillian and Lex Luthor. We can take them down for good this time I believe. They don't know that we've gotten any information about their location yet so we might be able to have the upper hand and take them by surprise." He explained futher, looking between you, Alex and Kara, taking notice of how your hands clench at the mention of the two Luthor's.
You felt excited and full of adrenaline after hearing this news, hopeful that their reign of terror will be put to an end, especially after the last straw of them having kidnapped you a week ago.
"We should go and end them now before they decide to change location again and dissapear under the radar." You said urgently, you knew now was the moment to end them, you've had a week to recover from all that was done to you and you were determined to stop them this time.
"I agree with her, Alex go and get more agents and vans ready, we will leave soon, just have to get a few things ready." With that said J'onn left the training room.
Alex looked a bit worried as Kara rushed away to get ready too.
"What's wrong my love?" You questioned your girlfriend, grabbing her arm as she looked at you, biting her lip after letting out a breath she was holding.
"I'm just worried about you having to go out so soon again on a mission, you were hurt just last week and shot by Kryptonite infused bullets but I also know that now it's the time to put those two away that did all those inhumane and bad things to you."
You smiled at Alex in assurance, melting at her worry and how soft she's being with you and all worried.
"I'll be okay Alex, won't be alone, we will be going together and I've healed completely over the week after you have removed all those bullets from me and you've seen me and Kara practicing together, I'm all good to be out again and ready to kick some bad guys." You assured her warmly, pulling her into a hug making her hug you back tightly after nodding at you, knowing you were talking the truth there but she was still worried.
You pulled away from the hug a few moments later, kissing her on cheek and pulling her to the door with you.
"Let's go now, we still need to get ready and prepared."
🐺🐾🐺🐾🐺🐾🐺🐾🐺🐾🐺🐾🐺🐾🐺🐾
(*few hours later arriving at thier location*)
You, Alex, Kara, J'onn and the other agents all climbed out of the vans that was parked a bit away from the big fancy looking mansion, having one waiting here to look over the stuff for incase something went wrong.
One of the female agents helped the other to make a gap at the fence where everyone claimed through, moving closer to the beige painted mansion, you could see a few security guards patrolling the impressively beautiful big yard.
J'onn have split three group in two, going with one group to the back side if the mansion while you, Alex and Kara was left with the others.
Alex was next to you and Kara, her hand holding yours tightly.
"Please be careful and let's all get out of here alive." Alex said to you and Kara, readying her gun silently as possible along with all the others.
"We will be sister, don't worry about this, we've already made it through so much." Kara assured her sister with a smile.
You hugged Alex, kissing her cheek.
"I love you. Please be careful in there." You whispered in her ear, also worried about her, you didn't ever want to lose her.
Alex whispered back the she loves you too and that she will be okay before you've pulled away from her.
You stood next to Kara who gave you a smile that you returned eagerly.
"Let's go get them." With that said the raining of bullets started as you and Kara ran for the mansion, taking out as many guards as possible that came in your way, the adrenaline surging through you the closer you got to mansion.
You were using some of your others powers like heat vision, super strength, frost breath and electrokinesis and pyrokinesis, you haven't used these many abilities too much since after Lena have helped you escape her mother and brother's clutches and only have used it a few times during you and Kara's training sessions where she have taught you to get them stronger, you definitely were hesitant but have agreed eventually after she have begged you endlessly to show her and Alex what powers you have.
It didn't took too long for you to get to the mansion for you and Kara along with the others, having had the upper hand by the surprise attack but the only downside is that some guards are armed with Kryptonite enfused bullets but it was easily dodged this time since you had time to heal properly.
Taking down the last guard with ease you entered the mansion after blasting the door down forcefully, immediately starting to take down more guards coming at your group, deafening sounds of bullets and screaming filling the atmosphere again as both sides fought with all their might and life.
Alex spotted Lillian making her way to a set of stairs leading down to what she assume must be their lab in a basement.
Alex grabbed your arm, getting your attention and showing you and you turned to make eye contact with Lillian's cold blue eyes glaring daggers at you before she ran down the flight of stairs.
"Let's go get her." You said to Alex and ran to the stairs with Alex following you close behind just as Lex came running for the stairs too, almost knocking into you, his eyes widening when seeing you before a smug smirk appeared on his face.
Just as he went to open his mouth to speak your fist collided with his nose hard, sending him flying into the wall with a grunt, his pale hands flying up to hold his rapidly bleeding nose that was with no doubt broken, trying to ease then pain as he grunted through clenched teeth in pain but before he could even open his eyes again you've already began to repeatedly lay punches on any place you could reach, eye glowing a dangerous red in pure fury as Alex watched, getting a bit worried you'd kill him on the spot right now.
You proceeded to knee him hard between the legs making him yell curse words in pain and bending down to hold his hands down but you grabbed him by the front of his suit jacket, head butting him before throwing him down the stairs with all force, watching him fall on his back, immediately out cold from all the pain.
Alex grabbed your arm again to get your attention as you wiped his splattered blood from your forehead with the back of your hand, ignoring the pounding in your head caused by head butting him but you know he was the one gonna wake up with a head splitting headache.
"Lillian is getting away, we must stop her!" Alex urged and with that both you and her ran down the stairs, you have proceeded to turn into your wolf form and ran, Alex trying to keep up after one of the other agents motioned for her to go while he handcuffed the passed out Luthor.
It was a long basement full of cages with people in and experimental things and tools scattered all over the place with endless cases packed with vials of liquids of all sorts against the chipped wall and a black car near a big open door.
Despite the poor light coming from the ceiling lamp you could clearly see everything in the cold damp place, the stench of blood making your nose curl unpleasantly, the sight of all the torture and experimenting tools and equipment and the scared people in cages making memories flash through your head from when the foul Luthor's had you before Lena have helped you escaped, anger filling your whole body at this.
You could see Lillian running towards the car as fast as possible and picked up your pace even more but before she could even reach her car J'onn and his group have came in, blocking her only escape as he pointed his gun at her, all the agents guns directed at her.
"Stop right there Mrs Luthor! Your days are over." He yells out, moving closer to her slowly.
Lillian gaped before turning around, trying to run back from the direction she came from but she ran straight into you, falling to the cold harsh floor with breathless grunt, pushing herself to her hands, making eye contact with your red eyes and growling face, dread and fear filling her eyes as she saw your razor sharp teeth bared at her as you stalked closer while she tried crawling away on her hands as Alex pointed her gun at her too, rage in her eyes upon seeing the Luthor that have caused you so much pain and suffering along with her son for so long.
She didn't make it far as J'onn yanked her up but the arm, keeping a firm grip on her upper arm as she scowled at the martian who only ignored her when she started yelling threats at him, trying to slap at his face with her other arm that he easily grabbed without even trying.
You narrowed your red eyes at her as she glared at you while J'onn is busy handcuffing her after telling the other agents to tend to the other captives that was locked in cages.
"Such a pity, I knew you would become all great and powerful and come far but to join a bunch of heroes was absolutely ridiculous, you would have come even much further if you have stuck with us." Lillian said coldly, making you growl at her lowly, you sure would have loved to slap her now but you knew it's over now that she's caught finally and that she will be left in a prison cell to rot along with her son.
You watch as J'onn forced her into a DEO car, the fur on your back still raised and tensed up until you felt Alex's familiar touch running through your fur as she came to stand next to you, her eyes having that familiar twinkle of love in them as she gazed at you with her brown eyes, a smile on her face that have you relaxing even more and you turned back into human form, immediately pulling her into a tight hug, burying your face into her hair as a tear slid down your face as she clung to you just a tightly, rubbing you back comfortingly.
Alex pulled away after a while of the two of you just holding each other and enjoying each other's presence, leaning to plant a kiss on your lips making you smile against her lips, you felt so at ease and relieved now that everything is finally over with the Luthor's, you had a nagging feeling but that there was more to come later on but for now you were perfectly content and just want to get it over with and go home and have a relaxing nigh with Alex, Kara and Lena, maybe a movie night after a long relaxing bath or shower and definitely sleep, you were absolutely exhausted and you knew Alex must be too, she's only human and get way more exhausted easily.
🐺🐾🐺🐾🐺🐾🐺🐾🐺🐾🐺🐾🐺🐾🐺🐾
(*Timeskip until 6 months later*)
You and Alex were going over to Kara's place for a friends night with Kara and Lena, the two have recently started dating too after your endless teasing when seeing the way Kara blushed around Lena and with the help if you and Alex the two oblivious women have finally admitted their feelings and started dating, finally happy and relaxed without Lena's family around to cause more damage and also she now knows of Kara being Supergirl, she was a bit angry at first of not being told earlier but she also understood.
Alex knocked at the door one arm linked with yours while you held a big bowl of potstickers. It did take too long for Kara to throw the door open with barely contained excitement, how she reminded you of a puppy with all the excitement and energy she always have, smiling and she pulled Alex into a bone crushing hug.
Her blue eyes fell on you, the smile on her face blinding as she pulled you too for a hug.
You laughed when her eyes fell on the bowl of potstickers in your hand as you could clearly see her getting even more excited if that was even possible.
"Told Alex to have us make a stop and grab your all time favourite." You said warmly at the blonde kryptonian.
Kara let you and Alex in, putting the pot stickers on the table nearby where there was lots of other treats and chips placed with wine and cool drinks too.
Lena greeted the two of you just as excitedly, happy to see the two of you again.
After getting comfortable about half an hour later Alex have gotten the attention of Lena and Kara, telling them she had some big news to tell them, Kara was concerned at first thinking it was some bad news but that wasn't the case at all.
Alex held out her hand, showing of the diamond engraved ring on her ring finger, Kara and Lena shared a look for a moment before bursting into pure excitement, rushing to get a closer look at the ring.
"You and (Y/N) got engaged?!" Was Kara's excited question making you blush and smile a bit as you watch until Kara tackled you into a hug, squeezing you tightly making you laugh as you hugged her back excitedly.
Alex laughed at Kara's behavior and excitement, feeling completely excited all over too at remembering you popping her the question while you two were out to a restaurant that you have planned out a week ago.
"Yes we are engaged!" She said excitedly, the smile on her face making you smile just as brightly after Kara released you from her grip.
"When and why didn't either of you told me before??!" The blonde Kryptonian demanded with a pout on her face that have you, Alex and Lena laughing.
"I'm sorry sister. It was last night and we spent the night celebrating it, and I called mother to tell her the the good news and I wanted it to be a suprise for tonight to tell at our weekly night." Alex told her sincerely, hugging Kara back when she engulfed her sister in a warm hug.
After Lena and Kara have finished congratulating the two of you and chattering excitedly about the engagement with you and Alex the night was going perfectly.
The rest of the night was just full of excitement, laughter and endless chatter as you all ate and shared drinks with each other, watching Lena and her little sister being all happy together as they held a conversation between them.
You looked down at Alex and smiled at her, giving her a kiss on the head making her turn to look up at you with a joyous smile on her face, pure love and adoration shining in both of yours eyes as the two of you gazed at each other before kissing, blocking out all the background sounds as you shared a moment.
"I love you." Alex whispered as she pressed her nose to your cheek affectionately.
You felt yourself melt at her words and gesture.
"I love you too my darling." You whisper back, intertwining your fingers with her soft ones and holding her close to you after she rested her head on your chest, listening to the soft beating of your heart, feeling so happy and content. She definitely was damn glad that they have met you that night and have been able to recruit you, she can't imagine not having have met you and it not having led to this beautiful moments between you, and not having you around as company to stop villains and make all the funny jokes and teasing, it makes her heart clench painfully but she knows you will be there with her through life in absolutely everything and that nothing will stop any of you for being there for each other.
🐺🐾🐺🐾🐺🐾🐺🐾🐺🐾🐺🐾🐺🐾🐺🐾
Hope you have enjoyed this final part of the series paw prints on the Agent's heart, it was fun writing it and having come this far with it, just want to thank you all for the love and support of it, it means so much to me. Also apologizing if this isn't how you wanted it to end or if it doesn't seem good buy I've tried, not the best at writing about marriage proposals and weddings so ended in some fluff.
Have a wonderful day/night!!💕

Red Reunion Updates
I know I said there would be a part two but I am having trouble trying to make part two as theatrical as part one.
TLDR I’ve been putting off part two because I’m afraid it won’t be on par as part one. I know what I want to do I just don’t know how to write it. It’ll come I just don’t know when
Does anyone want to see a certain plot? Feel free to put it in the comments here, maybe it’ll help inspire something.

High School Reunion
Intro: Hello lovelies!! I hope you guys are having a good day/night!! I just came up with this and like two others, so enjoy this one!!
Note: Y/N goes back to their hometown for a class reunion, seeing all the faces they once knew, then seeing their old crush, this was gonna be an interesting night.
Word Count: 1444
Coffee shops… They were your favorite place to be when you wanted to take some time to yourself and finish a good book, staring out the window as the snow piled up outside, even though you hated the damn stuff, you could appreciate it’s aesthetic side, it really did look beautiful out there, although you dreaded driving in it to go back to your hotel room for the night, you were only in your hometown again to go to your class reunion, it had been nearly 15 years since you’ve seen most of them face-to-face, some of them being on your facebook, but otherwise there was no interaction, you wondered how most of them were doing… Especially Lena, she was your high school sweetheart, she was everything you weren’t, but she was nice to you while others weren’t, you dealt with your fair share of bullies growing up, but you couldn’t complain, you enjoyed your time in high school, you made good friends, played sports, even joined the anime club.
Coming back here was a weird thing, you hadn’t been back here since before your parents moved to a different state, there being no reason for you to have come back, but it was interesting to see how the small town had grown so much “Y/N?” You heard someone ask, pulling you out of your thoughts and turning your head toward the voice, your eyes widening slightly when you saw your high school best friend, Emily, standing there, her son standing beside her and looking a bit awkward, which made sense, you were a stranger to him “Emily?” You asked, smiling as you set your warm mug down and stood up, pulling her into a hug “It’s been so long! You look good!” You said, pulling back and looking at her before offering her son a small smile and a wave which he returned “So do you! This is my son, Wyatt, Wyatt this is Y/N, they were my best friend back in high school” she introduced, looking between the two of you before you gestured for them to take a seat.
“So, how have you been? What’s new?” Emily asked, helping Wyatt out of his heavy coat when he climbed into the booth beside her “Well, I have my own business now in Seattle, I’m planning to move on and expand it somewhere else, I just haven’t decided where yet” you said, pulling up your website and showing it to her “Wow, I knew you could make it” she said, smiling as she scrolled through the site, this business having been something you’d been wanting to do since high school “Thank you… How about you? How are things?” You asked, taking your phone back when she handed it to you, the two of you catching up and it being like nothing ever happened between you two, no long period of not talking, just two best friends catching back up.
Later that night, you had told Emily that you would meet her at the school, you got back to your hotel room and sighed as you slumped down in the chair by the table, you wondered how tonight would go, how much everyone had changed… If you would see her, getting lost in your thoughts until your phone pinged, it being Emily reminding you to not be late and you couldn’t help but smile as you replied back to her, pushing yourself out of the chair before you got changed into your outfit of choice, it just being some nice black pants, with shiny black shoes, a nice button-up, and a tie, making sure the rest of yourself looked good before you grabbed you things and headed out.
The snow had turned to mush and ice by the time you got to the school, carefully getting out of your car, you made your way towards the entrance, almost making it without incident until you stepped on a patch of ice and lost balance, bracing yourself to hit the ground when you felt arms wrapped around you, small but strong, opening your eyes, you looked behind you and saw Lena there with a small smile on her face “You okay?” She asked, chuckling some as she helped you stand up and you felt your face burning at her adorable laugh “I’m fine, seems the ice had it out for me though… You look amazing, Lena” you said, looking at her and seeing her wearing a gorgeous black dress with heels that could stab someone’s eyes out if she wanted to, her long, black hair pinned back in a waterfall braid down her back and black lipstick with some eyeshadow that made her green eyes pop.
“Thank you, you look great yourself, Y/N” she said, smiling at you and you couldn’t stop the surprise that appeared on your face when she said your name “Wait, you remember me?” You asked, rubbing the back of your neck anxiously and laughing nervously as she nodded “Of course I do, we worked on all the science projects together” she chuckled, you smiling as you remembered all the times she came by to work on the project since you guys always seemed to get paired “Right, we did, didn’t we” you chuckled, smiling at the memories before you realized that she was shivering “We should-we should get inside” you said, offering your arm to her without thinking and her taking it with a smile before you both headed inside.
Once inside, you brushed some snow out of your hair and smiled at her “Hopefully I’ll see you again tonight?” You asked, looking at her as she dusted some snow off her dress “Of course, can’t wait” she said, giving you a smile before she headed inside, you watching as she walked away before you took a deep breath and headed in yourself, the music loud like you were at one of the dances and the lights flashing throughout the gymnasium, looking around you saw a few familiar faces, but everyone had changed… Well, except Rodger, he still seemed to be the cocky airhead he was in high school, seeing him already surrounded by people, probably boasting about some sport thing that he did or something.
After a few moments of walking around, you spotted a few of your old friends with Emily, so you approached them “Hey guys, long time no see” you said, shaking their hands and even roughly remembering the handshake that you and Sam made “Y/N! How are you?” Jess asked, smiling at you as you shoved your hands in your pockets “I’m good, how are you all?” You asked, smiling as you guys seemed to fall back into the friendship you guys had years ago.
“So, I saw you walk in with Lena” Sam said as the two of you made your way to the snack table “Yeah, I nearly faceplanted outside, but she caught me before I could” you said, raising an eyebrow at the hum that Sam gave in return “What?” You asked, looking at them and watching as they shoved a cracker and cheese in their mouth “Oh nothing” they said, giving you a look that you couldn’t read until you heard a slow song come on and Sam groaned “Guess I owe Jess that dance” they said, sighing before they looked at you and nudged you “Looks like you’re getting one too” they said, giving you a wink before they headed off to find Jess, leaving you confused until you felt someone tap your shoulder.
When you turned around, you saw Lena standing there “Would you like to dance with me?” She asked, giving you a small smile and you couldn’t help but smile back and nod giddily, letting her lead you out to the dancefloor after you set your empty plate down before she turned towards you and wrapped her arms around your neck and yours wrapped around her waist “I heard you run a company now” she said, looking at you and you nodded “Yeah, in Seattle… I’m looking for new places to go with it” you said, trying not to stutter as you tried to respectfully keep your distance from her, but she just tugged you closer “Well, I could help with that… We should get dinner after this, catch up” she suggested, looking at you and you nodded “Dinner, yes… Dinner would be nice” you stuttered, biting your lip and mentally scolding yourself as she chuckled “You’re cute when you stutter” she said, giving you a smile. The two of you dancing and sticking close to one another the rest of the night, not that you were complaining.

Missing (2/4)
Nightwing/Dick Grayson x Fem!healer reader
Part 1
my masterlist for more content!
Word Count: 1K
Warnings: none
Summary: Y/N’s mission with the League goes south.
S/N: your super hero name
A/N: i hope yall like this part. dont be afraid to send me an ask or comment what you thought of it. (i cant guess if people like it or not) Thank you @aznblossom for the first comment on a dc fic of mine <3. Really helps me find some motivation to write it faster.
-
Black Canary, Superboy, Nightwing, Artemis, and Kaldur were standing in the main room of Mount Justice. Everybody had come back from the mission. Except for S/N. They had waited for her, but she did not show up when they waited 20 minutes at the meeting place close to the facility. Dick tried to keep his emotions in check but the longer he waited for any sign of her the harder it got.
Batman’s face popped up on the screen and Dick stopped pacing. “The Watchtower just received a distress signal from S/N.” Nightwing could hear everyone’s breath stop for a second. This is what they had been dreading. He did not need any enhanced hearing for that. “The signal came from Gotham. A few miles away from the lab. The call has likely been delayed by the hit on the communication lines.” A map appeared on the holographic screen. A red dot blinked showing Y/N’s last coordinates.
Batman continued. “I’ve also looked at the security cameras from the place. At 4.24 am Nightwing can be seen.” Dick’s brows furrowed at that. The screen switched to the camera footage Batman had found. And indeed he saw himself step out of a car. He could feel the stares of the rest of the team. He opened his mouth to say something but just then someone else stepped out of the other side of the car. “Psimon.” Superboy grunted. He had a brown cloak on but the underside of his white face was long enough visible to recognize him.
Where did he send Y/N of to? “We don't know how Psimon escaped out of Belle Reve. I’ve people on that.” Batman said. But Nightwing was focused on the footage. “An hour later S/N crosses the street right where the clone of Nightwing and Psimon are. We don't know why but we can take an obvious guess as to why she did.”
The footage was fast forward to 5.03 am and indeed. He saw Y/N’s back as she sprinted across the street. No, don't go there. He wanted to tell her. Her figure went beyond the frame. A minute later she crawled back into the frame out of the alley. Dick took a step closer to the hologram. He could see her struggling to move. Her hand shaking while she brought it up to her earpiece. He could see her struggle against Psimons powers. Then she collapsed.
He watched as her body was picked up by another man that walked out of the alley. His hands clenched into fists at his sides. “We identified this man as Alex Vriser, he was an experiment from Time Labs but vanished.” Bruce said. “Do you have her location?” Kaldur asked and Dick was thankful for that because he did not trust his own emotions right now.
Batman’s face appeared back on screen “No but I am sure Nightwing wants to handle that.” He was thankful for that in his years fighting by Bruce’s side he knew that he hated feeling useless. Nightwing gave a quick nod and strode to the huge monitors and started his search
Kaldur felt the pain for his best friend and his girlfriend. He knew what it was like to lose someone. “Keep an eye on him.” Batman said referring to his son. Black Canary, Artemis, Superboy and himself nodded. “S/N needs to be found as quickly as possible. Once you have her location have a clear plan. We don't know what they want with her or her powers. It is possible that they using her as leverage.” Kaldur nodded again. “We will Batman.” Artemis replied. They bid their goodbyes and the hologram vanished.
A few hours later Nightwing strode into the kitchen where the team had been talking. “I found her.” Without saying anything else he walked back to the control room. They followed him without question. Dick sat back down on the chair and started showing everything and explain his plan. Normally when Khaldur was part of a mission he led. But he did not want to intrude he felt like Dick needed this. This way he was able to forgive himself earlier. It was for sure gonna take a while. Even longer if the rescue mission went wrong.
He watched as Nightwing showed pictures of the car they had put her in after they took S/N’s unconscious body. He had run the plate number and put it in a program that could find the car on every security camera. “She is in Houston, Texas. I was able to track her with other satellites. The tracker in her suit is damaged likely because of Psimon or the interception at the facility we were in.” Dick said. He cleared his throat and continued. “They took a jet at Gotham airport.” More pictures of the building of her last known location popped up on the screen.
After we came up with a plan with the blueprints of the building everyone got ready. Kaldur stopped Dick before he went to the weapon room. “We’ll get her back. It isn’t your fault Nightwing.” the Atlantian said. Dick gave him a tiny nod. “I know, but I still didn’t protect her. I was supposed to look out for her.” He walked away.
S/N? She had just been running behind him. A group of guards were after them. Someone had set the alarm. He stopped and quickly turned around. Only two guards were running towards him. Where were the other four?
After a few minutes, the two guards were down. He knew the comms were down but still tried. “S/N? Do you copy? Where are you?” after. Yeah, nothing. He quickly ran back through a few halls they had just run through. Dick had a bad feeling in his stomach.
This was planned. Only two guards went after him and four after Y/N. Why not send three after him and three after her. The guards were a distraction. Leading him to a whole other part of the building. He halted. Breathing heavily and looked at the walls and doors. Red lights flickered on and off. Darkness, red, darkness, red. It was messing with his mind. Everything looked the same. It was a maze. The blueprints of the lab clearly did not have this many halls drawn on them. It was outdated.

Flashback - 3 years ago
As the light entering the room invaded her eyes, Lena couldn't help but press her head more into your shoulder. Trying to relax again into your embrace, as you clung to her like a sloth, she couldn't help but glance at the red clock in your bedside which read ‘7:34 AM’. The Luthor woman looked back at you as you slept safe and soundly, a small pout on your lips as you did, she softly peppered kisses on your shoulder and your face before abruptly and carefully moving out of the embrace.
She couldn't help but smile and melt at the sight of you sleeping, sometimes it felt too good to be true. The kisses, the hugs, the late nights, the early mornings, the friendships, everything. It always felt bad as she stepped out of the apartment knowing you were still asleep, that you wouldn't wake up in her arms, that the two of you couldn't share the morning as you usually would.
You and your sister had given her more than she could ask for. You and Kara are always finding a way to bring her out of the dark, proving people wrong at the thought of her being different from her family, someone capable of love and being love.
That's why she didn't even hesitate when Kara invited her for lunch. It was one of the most normal things she did. But that day something felt off, a gut in her stomach told her it was going to be different and as the scientist, the young Luthor is, she ran every scenario in her head preparing herself for any situation at her sight. What the green-eyed woman didn't know was that it was going to be useless at the moment the words fell out of your sister's mouth.
---------
“I love you,” Kara said hurriedly without breath.
The two of them sat on the balcony of her office, bags of taking out on the table as the two sat in front of each other. The light of the sun during noon felt nice during the winter days.
Since the moment the blonde had arrived at her office Lena noticed something was bothering Kara, the green-eyed woman came to learn with the Danvers Sisters that neither of your three was easy to open up. So she took her time and decided to help her indirectly.
For a few minutes, the two of them fell into a comfortable silence as they were eating their lunch. What was unknown to Lena is that Kara's eyes never left her, the blonde stared at her unconsciously until the words came out of her mouth, startling Lena at the sudden confession.
Lena couldn't help but let the blonde talk freely, even as she felt a small tug in her heart and mind, all she could think and analyze was the fact that the ‘Girl of Steel’, ‘Supergirl’, ‘ Sunnyside reporter Kara Danvers’ was there in front of her telling her she loved in her in a whole completely different way than she had known before.
The blonde explained with tears in her eyes “I have loved you since the moment I sat beside you and Y/N during movie nights and my brain all could think was that I wanted to be the one you held, the one you whispered sweet things at any moment, the one who got to wake up with you, the one that could hold your hand and kiss you anywhere, at any time without a reason, the one that in the future you get to share a family with, the one that its everything for you. I want to be the one, Lena”
Your girlfriend watched her best friend confess her feelings, as she felt her heartbeat in her ears and her clouded mind stood quietly as Kara kept talking.
“And believe me, I want to be sorry, I want to feel bad about falling in love with you knowing that my baby sisters heart is going to break because she is completely utterly and unstoppably in love with you but I can't because I'm doing this one thing for me that I never got the chance to do it before and if I could spare the pain I would but I can't because I'm so in love with you it hurts so freaking much that it's killing me from the inside out”
It never occurred to her that she could have it, that she could have everything she once wished for as a kid. But somewhere deep down in her, something felt off, something about her relationship with kara always felt like a challenge she wanted to confront but never did since it always felt like unknown territory. And now that she had it in front of her she couldn't help but let herself go without any thought.
So when her legs walked up to the blonde and unconsciously pulled her into a memorizing kiss, the green-eyed woman couldn't help but melt as the arms of her best friend?... Kara came around her waist pulling her closer. Something felt puzzled in her heart but in her mind, it felt right.
When the pair of friends pulled away, Lena’s eyes never left the blonde closed ones, her arms hanging around the superhero neck before she felt another unexpected chaste kiss on her lips. Kara seemed to be worried to open her eyes thinking it was just another dream but when the hands of Luthor caressed her cheek before closing the distance once again her blue eyes snapped open with tears ready to fall.
“I-” The black-haired woman started looking at the Kryptonian right in the eye. Hesitant but when the blonde hands carefully comforted her back. she finished with a smile that reached her eyes and eyes full of devotion and a splint of guilt when she remembered you.
“I love you too, but I have to talk with Y/N”
Kara responded immediately pulling away with a bright smile, and blush on her cheeks. The blonde turned around fist-pumping the air in emotion when Lena helped her clean up the take out “Yeah, yeah of course”
Your girlfriend's thoughts started to be overwhelmed with guilt. Her gut and her heart aching with guilt as she remembered you. She couldn't help but bit her lip in concentration as she started to think about you. It was obvious that her mind was so invested at the moment that she didn't notice your sister calling her name walking up to her.
Unexpectedly the blonde pulled her into her with another kiss, almost scared she would pull away. Your girlfriend noticing this returned quickly pulling blonde by the cheeks closer, when the two of them pulled away due to their large smiles objecting to the kiss Kara was called by an emergency but before the blonde flew away from her, she took the opportunity to come closer to the Luthor leaving a small hopeless chaste kiss on her lips after commenting and a lingering finger under her jaw.
“Just one more”
Lena stood in her office, bringing her hand to her lips still feeling the sweetness of Kara’s lips memorized by what had happened. She couldn't help but smile at the sensation even when her heart called out the guilt she should be confronted because of you.
Because even though everything she had done, you were always there. Because in the late night or early morning you stood by her side without hesitation making sure she got the best. Because you went out of your way to make her feel okay, comfortable, and happy. Because you punished yourself over the smallest thing when they had even the smallest bad effect on her. Because you loved her irrevocably and unstoppably until the end of the time. Because you stood up and left your things more than one time to help her do something that may have not been of your liking. Because you heard her even at her quietest moments and you held her up even at her lowest no matter what was happening to you. Because you gave her everything you had, and also what you didn't have without hesitation only to see a warm smile on her face. Because you knew all of her without doubts. Because you were you, and you were irrevocably, unstoppably, and utterly in love with her.
---------
The white soft LED lights on the corridor would normally give the green-eyed woman a sense of calm and relief as she arrived home but that day she couldn't think about anything. It was usual for her to wish for you to be home the moment she could get home so that she could spend as much time with you as possible but today was the exception, she wished and begged to herself as she walked through the building for you to not be home anytime soon.
The moment she had stepped into the apartment with her bag in hand and the guilt on her back, Lena couldn't help plop herself on but the couch closing her eyes letting herself suck in what had happened earlier with your blonde sister. The guilt heavier her heart, and her mind overwhelmed with possibilities.
She didn't hesitate to serve herself a cup of the best wine there was in the apartment, the bottle the two of you had chosen carefully and especially for dinner dates and your anniversary. The old red wine sprayed into the glass carefully as she stood with her thoughts.
Lena didn't know how much time had passed until the sound of the moving keys hit the door, and the sound of your voice came to ear. Her breath hitched as you came to view, trying to handle a pastry box, a flower arrangement, your keys, and your phone, completely wet. She kept silent in the barstool when you spoke, her guilt consuming her from the inside out as you voiced your worries about her, but even after feeling all of the consuming guilt she couldn't help to stop the words that came out of her mouth.
“I need to tell you something” She tried to keep it as neutral and professional as she could, eating her guilt as she drank the wine. But as she aimed for the best disguise it came out the wrong way, as if you were one of the white male closed-minded businessmen that would insult her indirectly.
She had stopped herself from greeting with a kiss because she knew she was going to compare to karas, she stopped herself from hugging you because she knew she was dreaming since the morning to have kara’s arms wrapped around her not yours, she stopped herself from acknowledging you because she knew she was going to regret it her whole life. But as a scientist, she couldn't help but wish to try the challenge that would be a Luthor and a Super together.
“Kara told me she loves me”
The words escaped her mouth like a kid with a secret, and the moment that it did she saw you break without repair. She saw you hesitate, she saw the hurt in your eyes appear as you let the words fell out of her mouth, she saw you bit your lip in desperation as if it was the glue to keep together, she saw the way you trembled and tried to keep it together, she saw the way you inhaled the words destroying you inside, the saw the way your eyes flashed with memories, the way your lip curled into a small smile, the way your thoughts were loud enough for her to hear, she saw you clear away the overwhelming tears and cough away your sensibility and broken voice after her obvious rejection, she saw you standing there as you tried so hard to not fall in front of her, she saw you pick her first even when you were at your lowest.
She doesn't really remember after seeing you break slowly, painfully, and unceasing in front of her. She blacks out as much as she cans, she remembers your sweet and caring words that fell out of your lip before you stepped out of the apartment, but she hates herself for hearing your echoing sobs through the halls, she hates herself for hearing your voice break, she hates herself at the sight of you breaking in front of her, she hates herself for remembering the way you tried to keep it together so hard that it felt as if you were a robot but what she hates herself the most is for remembering the way she broke you beyond repair.

Emma is sitting with her legs laid out on a sunlounger on the patio, sipping a mug of hot chocolate while she watches the colours of sunrise brighten the dark sky and listens to the morning chorus of birds. She leans her head back against the upright chair, remembering how she thought yesterday was her last sunrise. Parts of Emma still wishes it had. Lily lays sprawled on her lap and nuzzles her head against Emma’s thigh, letting out a soft whine, obviously sensing Emma’s turmoil.
The blonde lowers her hand and gently strokes the white German Shepherd's head. Grateful for her non judgemental presence, especially with what is planned later today.
She had spent all of yesterday with Alistair and Lily, only taking breaks to use the bathroom or for her Mom to bring them drinks and food. And even though Emma trusted Alistair, it took her some time to open up to him.
– – –
Emma sat with her head lowered, unable to make eye contact with her therapist. The clock in the office ticked loudly in the room, making Emma acutely aware of the seconds ticking away.
“Please Emma, tell me how you are feeling.” Alistair says softly, the warmth of his voice slowly eases Emma’s tension.
‘I don’t want to.’ Emma admits quietly in her mind.
“Are you worried about what I will think?”
‘Kind of… More thinking it out loud to you will make it more real.’ Emma shifts uncomfortably on the sofa, causing Lily to move from Alistair’s side and jump up onto the sofa to lay her head on Emma’s lap.
“That is understandable, but there is no judgement here.” Alistair says reassuringly and Emma takes a deep breath. “Tell me what’s been happening since I was last in contact with you. From what I remember you were happy with Diana and doing shows with Robyn’s band?”
Emma nods and tears fill her eyes. She sniffs heavily and feels the tears slowly fall down her cheeks.
“It’s okay Emma. Take your time.”
Emma crumbles forward, placing her head in her hands and her body shakes with her silent cries. Lily sits up and places her head on Emma’s shoulder and nuzzles her nose against Emma’s cheek, trying to comfort her.
This makes Emma cry harder and she allows herself to cry freely and openly, using many tissues that Alistair passes to her. She mourns and grieves about her failed relationships, of her mistakes and her failings. To feel things she should have felt a long time ago and not buried into the depths of her soul.
Though her thoughts jumbled together Alistair had understood her perfectly and his kind eyes reassured her while he listened.
Slowly the heaviness that had been crushing Emma started to lift from within her, like she was able to take a breath and feel life enter her lungs again.
“And what happens now? Will you stay in Midvale forever? ”
This made Emma pause. The thought had crossed her mind.
‘But what would I do? I can’t stay hiding here forever.’
“Why not? You have the money too.”
‘I do love Midvale, but it isn’t my home.’
“And where is your home?”
Lena fills her mind and Emma’s eyes widen in shock.
“I see.” Alistair clears his throat. “I do believe it will be beneficial for you to communicate with Lena. Even if you just remain as friends you need to get some closure.”
Emma lowers her head and nods in understanding. Lily lifts hers and gives Emma’s cheek an affectionate lick. Making Emma nuzzle her face into the loveable dog causing Lily to cover her face with more licks.
“Will you communicate with Lena soon?” Alistair asks with a slight laugh at Lily attacking Emma’s face with kisses.
‘Yes.’ Emma’s mind quietly answers.
“And what about where you would go? Would you head back to National City or move somewhere else?”
A deep pang hits Emma’s gut. She knows staying in Midvale would not be the right choice. But where would she go?
Her mind wanders to the little villages she saw in Europe, how she could see herself settling with-
Emma shakes her head and focuses again on Alistair.
“I think NC would be the obvious option. I mean, I still want to be close to my sisters.
“Would you move back into your old apartment?”
Emma freezes and her breath hitches.
Glowing red eyes fill her vision and Emma feels a weight settle on top of her torso. Recognising it was Lily from the slight panting near her ear.
“Emma?”
‘I’m here.’ Emma manages to call out while her body shakes in fear.
“That’s it, stay in this reality. Nothing is going to harm you here.” Alistair says soothingly. “Well, maybe being licked to death by Lily.”
Emma manages to smile and blinks. The office materialises around her and she breathes in deeply.
“So by your reaction, getting a new apartment would be more beneficial?”
‘Yes.’ Emma reponds and motions for Lily to lie back on her lap, which she immediately does.
“That’s understandable, however I think it would be a good idea to visit the apartment again. Maybe treat it as an exercise for when you feel able to.”
Emma nods, although the thought makes her feel physically sick.
“First we need to take the small steps in helping you gain control of your life. Thinking about moving back to National City is one of them.”
‘And to learn about my powers?’
Alistair smiles warmly at her. “Yes, I was going to recommend that too. Would you want to become a hero?”
Emma shakes her head. ‘That’s Alex and Kara’s domain. Yes I want to learn how to control them, to keep everyone around me safe.’ Emma runs her hands gently through Lily’s fur. ‘But I can never see myself doing what they do, fighting crime, being a hero.’
“What is it you want to do?”
Emma swallows. She is already feeling the itch to get back into the recording studio. Maybe as a producer and songwriter. She remembers how much she enjoyed working with Robyn and creating music.
Alistair nods at her thoughts. “Do you think your voice will come back enough to sing again?”
Emma fiddles with her hands at that question, causing Lily to nuzzle her cold nose into them to get her back to stroking her head.
‘I don’t know. I hope so, but-’ Emma pauses and her eyes become misty with tears.
“Better not to get your hopes up?” Alistair asks and Emma nods sadly.
They continued communicating until they realised it had gone midnight. When Alistair got up to leave he suggested that Lily stay the night with her and bid her farewell.
Emma remained in the office a little while longer, feeling utterly drained from the marathon of a session. But she started to feel something she hadn’t felt yesterday.
Hope.
– – –
After having some time to think about it there were seemingly many roads and options that lay in front of her. But fear seemed to be holding her back. Making her heart ache and stutter at the thought of trying to move forward.
“Just let go.” Lena’s voice whispers softly in her mind.
Emma sighs heavily. Hoping the action would rid her of the nervous energy she is harbouring. Especially with the approaching group session that Alistair wanted to do with everyone. Thankfully Ayla had offered to entertain Mary and Ruby, giving the chance for Emma to be truthful and honest with how she is feeling.
Although Emma thinks it is a terrible idea.
What would everyone’s thoughts be? Would they reject her? Be offended? Figure out she isn’t worth the effort?
Lily lifts her head and whines again. Staring soothingly into Emma’s eyes as if telling her everything will be okay.
Emma lovingly strokes Lily's face, gratefully that she had stayed by Emma’s side all night. She had been surprised when Alex and Kara said they were going to sleep in their beds instead of with her. Explaining that Alistair had said she may need some space. Emma nodded and headed straight for bed. Lily had then trotted behind her and lept onto the bed, flopping heavily on one side while she waited for Emma to join her. Making Emma’s right lip pull up in a small smile. Lily had even kept to her side when Emma had sat on the patio lounger outside, where the pair stayed for a while.
A creak on the bottom step makes Emma turn to look through the window, she sees Robyn entering the back room and downs the rest of her drink.
Emma looks at Lily and points to the floor. Asking her to get down, which Lily does immediately and follows Emma back into the house.
“Good morning.” Robyn says softly while turning the kettle on for a cup of tea. “How are you?”
Emma shrugs and sits on a stool, but she doesn’t make eye contact with her best friend. Instead she focuses on her hands, feeling unable too.
“Em, please look at me.” Robyn’s voice cracks, making Emma’s head lower and Lily starts pawing at her pyjama covered leg. “I’m not angry at you. Really I’m angry at myself-”
Emma’s head snaps up at that and she stares in disbelief at the brunette.
“I noticed you weren’t yourself, that something was wrong, but I got so caught up getting to know Lucy I didn’t do anything about it and I’m sorry.”
Emma deflates and bites her lip. “No, I’m sorry.”
Robyn walks around the island and hugs Emma close. She kisses her best friend’s head. “You know I love you right?”
Emma nods and narrows her eyes slightly at Robyn’s hesitant tone.
“Okay good, cause I think you may want to have a shower before everyone else gets up, you a bit stinky.” Robyn jokefully swats her hand in front of her nose.
Emma rolls her eyes and lightly pushes Robyn away from her. But takes her advice and gets up to use the shower. Lily trots behind her and insists on sitting on the tiled floor, despite Emma signing for her to stay outside the bathroom.
When Emma finishes she heads into her room and finds Robyn laying on her bed with her new guitar.
“Have I told you how much I love this thing?” Robyn asks, Emma makes a mock face and shakes her head dramatically. Even though yes, Robyn has told her countless times how much she loves her new guitar. “Bitch!” Robyn laughs and Emma starts drying herself. “I was going to call her Emma, but now I will rethink.”
Emma voicelessly chuckles and puts on her underwear and a loose pair of jeans. She runs a hand through her wet hair and suddenly has an idea.
“What’s that face for?” Robyn asks with a tilt of her head.
“This may be cliche, but could you shave my hair?”
Robyn’s eyes widen like dinner plates. “All of it?!”
Emma shakes her head. “I am thinking of an undercut, probably up to here?” She draws the line high above her ear.
“Wow, that’s a lot of hair! I mean, you have a lot anyway and could get away with it, but it is a big commitment. To grow it back you’ll prob need to shave your hair or get a pixie cut like me.”
Emma nods and motions for Robyn to stay there. She quickly rushes to the bathroom as Lena goes to enter.
“Oh do you need-” Lena starts to say but Emma gives her a quick smile before ducking in and grabbing the box from a cupboard. She places it under her arm and signs to the raven haired beauty.
“Thank you, all yours.”
“You’re welcome.” Lena whispers as Emma zooms back into her room.
Robyn sits on the edge of the bed, absentmindedly stroking Lily. “Are you really sure about this?”
Emma nods again and puts the hair she doesn’t want to have shaved in a high bun. Next she grabs her towel, wraps it tightly around her shoulders and holds it with one hand. Plopping on a chair she gazes up at Robyn with a small, excited smile.
“Okay.” Robyn breathes out and plugs the clippers in. Emma pulls out the number 1 clipper guard from the box and holds it towards the brunette. “You don’t wanna try maybe a 4?”
Emma shakes her head and places the guard in Robyn’s hand.
Robyn takes a deep breath and clips it in. “Do you wanna record it?”
Emma’s eyes flash brightly and she reaches for her phone. She opens the camera and starts recording.
“Here we go-” Robyn turns it on and it immediately starts buzzing. She quickly turns it off and asks again. “Are you really sure?”
Emma scoffs and nods, she rolls her eyes at the camera, making Robyn chuckle.
“Okay, okay. Don’t try this at home kids.” Robyn turns the clippers back on and starts from the back of Emma’s neck.
Emma shivers from the sensation and is able to see Robyn’s work from the mirror behind her. She grins and takes a deep breath in.
Soon over half of Emma’s hair was gone and was sprawled across her bedroom floor.
“There.” Robyn declares and wipes Emma’s head and neck with the towel to make sure she got everything.
Emma beams at her and reaches up to touch her newly shaven undercut. She absolutely adores the soft feeling and turns her head to look at the result from different angles. Blowing the camera a kiss she stops recording and undoes her still damp bun.
“Oh of course you can’t tell what you’ve done! I seriously have hair envy!” Robyn jokingly complains and Emma aims the blow dryer at her. Robyn squeals and quickly exits the room with her guitar while Emma begins drying her hair.
She plays with different partings even sweeping it over to one side and enjoys the look. However, her hair naturally parts off to the right and she lets it fall that way.
Heading to her wardrobe she grabs a plain black t-shirt and puts on her Supergirl hoodie, knowing she needs all the courage she can get.
Emma plans to wait in posting the video of her head being shaved by Robyn. Maybe after the session ends.
Butterflies start zooming around Emma’s stomach at the thought of what could happen later.
She glances down at her floor and notes the mass amount of cut hair that Lily is currently pawing at. Due to the length Emma is able to easily gather it up and put it in the bin. She sits on the floor against the bed and pats her lap, summoning Lily over to her. They wait a little longer until Emma hears Alistair come back into the house as he is being greeted by her Mom.
Taking a deep breath in, Emma stands and makes her way downstairs with Lily by her side. She can feel her anxiety growing with each step and her hands become increasingly clammy. But before she enters the back room Emma halts and leans against the wall.
“Hey, you okay?” Sam comes up from behind her and Emma tries to breathe. “That’s it, just take nice, deep breaths.” Sam says calmly and motions with her hand for Emma to follow. Lily whines and nuzzles Emma’s legs.
“Emma?” Alistair’s voice calls from the doorway.
‘I’m scared.’
“That is completely understandable.” He says softly and motions for Sam to head into the room. She does so and Alistair focuses back on the blonde. “I’m not going to lie and tell you this is going to be easy or fix everything right away, but it will be a step in the right direction.”
Emma nods but her body still shakes, causing Lily to stand on her hind legs and hug her.
Alistair gives Emma a moment before gently placing his hand on her shoulder. “Are you ready?”
‘No, but let’s do it.’ Emma thinks and helps Lily get back onto her front paws. She lowers her head and they enter together into the back room.
“Morning Sweetheart.” Her Mom greets her by the island and Emma falls into her arms. Eliza rubs her back and her hand instinctively reaches up to her head. “Emma? What have you done?”
Emma takes a step back and lifts her hair up into a bun.
“You… You shaved it?” Eliza asks dumbfounded.
Emma bites the inside of her lip, worried about her Mom’s reaction.
“It suits you!” Eliza smiles brightly at her daughter and Emma sighs in relief.
“Okay everyone, welcome.” Alistair gives everyone a kind smile and motions for Emma to sit on the settee near him.
The sofas have been moved to allow everyone to be in a circle but there is a noticeable gap around Emma. The blonde guesses it is so everyone can see her properly.
Emma sits down and Lily lays by her feet. Emma reaches out for a pain au chocolat from a box of pasties on the coffee table and a plate.
“As I discussed with you all yesterday, today will be about clearing the air.” Alistair starts to explain and Emma shifts uncomfortably, making Lily lift her head upwards. “However, the main goal will be ensuring Emma can move forward and start rebuilding her life.”
Emma lowers her head and continues chewing on the pastry, although it is starting to taste like cardboard.
“I have discussed this with J’onn and to help the flow of this session, I propose that my wife be an interpreter.” Alistair pauses, naturally noticing Alex bristling and opens her mouth to speak.
“She has signed all the necessary paperwork.” J’onn adds, halting whatever the redhead was about to say.
“She had to even before I met Emma. We both support each other and talk openly and honestly. She’s my rock.” Alistair says with a smile, making Emma raise her head up to look at his expression.
A pang of grief hits her stomach and she puts her plate back on the coffee table. Alistair turns to her with a sympathetic expression.
“Of course it is your decision, she will be able to read your mind and emotions.”
‘Like you can?’
“Yes.”
‘Already got two mind readers in here, what’s the harm of one more?’ Emma thinks and reaches for a glass of orange juice. Despite her slight hesitation she understands how beneficial it will be for everyone. Mainly whoever has to interpret her signs won’t be able to be fully in the moment.
Alistair smiles reassuringly at her and sends a message on his phone. He places it back in his pocket and glances at everyone in the room. “I presume all ways of communication are turned off?”
Some get their phones out to check or put them on silent, the others have seemingly already done so and nod.
“Only our communicator with the DEO.” Alex says as she crosses her arms. Emma’s stomach tenses at how hostile Alex is looking right now, she can sense the apprehension rolling off of her sister. Thankfully Sam seems to sense it too as she reaches for Alex’s hand to hold it, making the redhead uncross her arms.
“Which will only happen if it is absolutely necessary.” J’onn adds.
“Good-”
A knocking sounds behind Emma and Alistair gets up to open the back door, revealing a black woman Emma thought looked like Karen, the choir leader. However, instead of grey dreadlocks, Alistair’s wife’s hair colour was velvet black and her eyes were a warm walnut brown.
“Good morning everyone.” She greets the room kindly.
“Please allow me to introduce my wife, Fayola.” Alistair beams and leads his wife to the empty seat next to Emma, the Superfriends nod in greeting. Kara gives her a little wave.
Fayola sits and focuses on Emma, who watches her very closely. “It’s wonderful to meet you Miss Danvers.” Fayola holds out her hand to her.
The blonde hesitantly reaches out and shakes it. ‘Likewise and please call me Emma.’
“Okay Emma and please call me Fay.” The woman leans back into her chair and studies Emma intently. Emma can’t help but be mesmerised by her eyes, like a pull she can’t get out of. Fayola tilts her head and grins. “You are very fascinating.” Her smile grows at Emma’s confusion in her mind. “My abilities go deeper than my husband’s, a different sense if you will.”
Emma nods and bites her lip.
“You have nothing to worry from me, little one.”
Naturally Emma’s eyes flick to Kara’s and her sister gives her a small smile.
“Okay, so let’s start with some ground rules, do any of you have any suggestions?” Alistair asks.
Alex raises her hand and Alistair motions for her to continue. “To not talk over each other.”
“Absolutely.”
“To allow honesty and authenticity.” Nia pipes up, making Alistair nod.
“Yes I agree, this session will be pointless if you aren’t all honest with how you are feeling.” He suddenly feels a surge of nerves from someone in the room and pinpoints it on a certain raven haired woman. “Any other suggestions?”
“Everything that is said stays in this room.” Winn offers as he anxiously taps his glass.
“Very good, this is a safe space and you can talk freely here.”
“To be respectful of others’ opinions and feelings.” Kara says and reaches up to fiddle with her glasses. “Even if we don’t like it.”
“That is key.” Alistair glances around the room. His eyes linger longer on Lena, making her uncharacteristically look away, unable to keep eye contact with him. “If any of you need to take a break at any point, just say so and we will pause.”
Emma feels her chest getting tighter with worry, causing Lily to sit up and place her head on Emma’s lap.
“Emma? Are you okay?” Fay asks and Emma nods, keeping her head lowered while she strokes Lily’s fur.
“Are you sure?” Alistair asks softly and Emma nods again. “Okay, Fay will speak out your words if you don’t want to sign.”
‘I understand.’ Emma thinks and feels slight relief at not needing to sign.
“Would you like to explain what happened the other day?”
Emma takes a deep breath in. ‘I got overwhelmed.’
Fay speaks her words out, her voice conveying exactly how nervous Emma was feeling.
Emma runs a hand through her hair and continues. ‘I know you all love me, I know that. But-’ Emma leans forward and places her head in her hands. Lily immediately jumps on the sofa and rests her head on Emma’s shoulder.
“It’s okay Emma. Take your time.” Alistair says softly. He gazes around the room at the saddened expressions of the group as they watch Emma.
‘But I can’t help but hold onto what has been said to me, the cancelled plans, being a nuisance, a distraction, in the way-”
“That’s not true!” Kara yells passionately but Emma flinches at the sudden noise and curls into herself.
“Kara, please let Emma finish.” Alistair says smoothly. “Continue Emma.”
‘When the attack happened, my whole world fell apart. It was like my life was put on hold. My music. My purpose. I felt like I was paralysed. All my plans, everything was just… gone.’ Emma sits up but still keeps her head lowered. Unable to meet anyone’s gaze. ‘And I get that life goes on. No matter what happens to you, the world keeps on turning. But I felt like I was being left behind. No matter how many messages I sent or tried to get anyones’ attention.’ She leans back against the sofa and looks, noticing the cobwebs in the corners of the high ceiling. Lily moves so her head rests on Emma’s chest and the blonde welcomes the reassuring pressure. ‘When I left, I felt ashamed. A failure. Unloved and uncared for.’ She feels the room ripple in shock and hears a few sniffs of silent tears. ‘Like I wasn’t enough. Like it was all an illusion.’
“And what happened yesterday?”
‘The pain I’ve been carrying, it never went away. I pushed it down so far and I ignored it.’ Tears start rolling down Emma’s cheeks. ‘But when Dia-’ Emma’s head rolls forward as she tries to hide her face and stop herself from crying.
“Emma, it’s okay.” Alistair says soothingly. “Let it out.”
Emma sobs and Lily moves more onto her. Trying to give Emma reassurance and keep her grounded.
Soon Emma is able to take back control and Lily moves back a bit. Allowing Emma to continue.
‘When Diana left, it was like the dam broke and everything just became too much. All my fears, my feelings of not being enough just boiled over and-’
Emma takes a deep breath, knowing what she is about to say will hurt her family and friends.
‘And I didn’t want to be here anymore. I didn’t have the strength to keep living. I’m sorry-’
Emma starts rocking, her face scrunches up and tears stream down her face.
“Alistair please.” She hears her Mom beg and soon Emma feels Lily jump down and her Mom wrapping her arms around her.
‘I’m sorry, I’m sorry, I’m sorry-’ Emma keeps repeating and clings to her Mom.
“I’m here, I love you baby girl. My sweetheart.” Eliza coos and feels her heart breaking for how far her daughter has fallen. ‘It’s my fault.’
“No, it isn’t.” Fay says compassionately. “We need to make one thing clear. This is none of your fault, granted you could have handled things differently. But, the only ones to blame are the League of Shadows.”
Emma swallows and lifts her head off her Mom’s shoulder. Alistair offers her a tissue and she shakenly takes it to wipe her tears while her Mom rubs her back soothingly.
“Eliza, I know it’s hard, but please go back to your seat.”
Eliza places a kiss on Emma’s head and goes back to sit down in her seat. J’onn takes her hand and passes her a tissue.
“Thank you for being honest with us Emma.” Alistair says softly and Emma fiddles with her hands, feeling as if she is going to throw up.
Lily jumps back onto the sofa and rests her head on Emma’s shoulder. The blonde refuses to meet anyone’s gaze, feeling too shameful at what she has just admitted.
“Now, I know that would have been difficult for you all to hear. But you need to honour Emma in her honesty in telling you how she is feeling.” He gazes around the room and hears the pained thoughts of the Superfriends. The tears gathered in their eyes and sorrowful expressions. “This session will not magically make this better, however it will help lead us in the right direction.”
He glances over at Emma who still keeps her head lowered, her hair acting like a curtain and hiding her face from her loved ones. “Emma? If you feel able, can you lift your head for me?”
‘Do I have too?’ Emma’s mind whispers out.
“No, but it may be more beneficial if you look at those responding to you.”
Emma takes a deep breath and slowly lifts her head up, but her eyes are kept lowered to her hands.
Alistair nods at Fay and looks at the group. “Who would like to go first?”
Kara raises her hand and a tear slips from her eye.
“Go ahead Kara.” Fay says encouragingly and Emma shifts in her seat.
“When I first came to earth I felt like my entire world had ended. I mean, it had, figuratively and physically. I saw Krypton explode-” Kara swallows, her throat constricts and she clears it. She watches as Emma’s bloodshot eyes lift and connect with hers. “When Superman brought me here, I suddenly had this other family that I didn’t ask for. I was terrified and I felt so alone.” Kara sniffs heavily. “But there was a little blonde child who refused to leave me alone. She showed me all her toys and introduced me to every one of her cuddly toys, even allowing me to choose a few for me to cuddle at night.” Despite her tears Kara smiles at her sister. “People say I am the paragon of hope but really, I was only able to hope because you shone your light into my darkest moments. You still do. You show people how they can shine theirs and I hate to think how dark the world would be if your light was no longer shining in the world.”
Emma’s face scrunches up as more tears fill her eyes, truly touched by her sister’s words.
“And I know you say you feel you don’t have the strength to keep going, well, if no one else will, I will hold you up and go on this journey with you.” Kara says passionately and others nod with her.
“You’ve said that before.” Fay speaks out while Emma keeps staring mournfully at her sister.
“We made mistakes.” Alex admits quietly and wipes the tears from her cheeks. “And I can’t promise you that we won’t make them again. But you are not a failure or unloved or uncared for-”
“And I am so sorry we made you feel that way.” Kara sobs out and Ben places a comforting hand on her back.
“Ben?” Alistair asks and Ben’s head whips over to him.
“Me? Okay, erm, it’s pretty similar to Kara really. Although I haven’t been introduced to your cuddly toy collection.”
A few chuckles sound around the room and Emma even manages to pull the corner of her right lip up.
“When I met you, I was in a really dark place and-” Ben takes a deep breath in. “I was in a similar boat as you are now. I’d even written my Nonno a letter, saying goodbye and that I was sorry. But you, you didn’t even know me, yet you showed such beautiful kindness. You supported me and I was able to get through the darkest time of my life. Please let me, let us, support you now to get through your darkest time.”
A few tears roll down Emma’s face and she nods. Lily eagerly licks away the tears and Emma tries to move her head away. She lets out a muffled laugh, causing Lily to jump in surprise and stare at her, tilting her head to the side as she studies Emma.
The blonde strokes the gorgeous dog and kisses her head. She touches her throat having felt a stronger vibration from her vocal chords.
“It’s getting stronger.” Alistair states with a smile and Emma nods, taking a deep breath to calm her stuttering heart. “Progress, step by step.” Alistair reminds Emma and Lily gives her cheek another affectionate lick before settling her head back on Emma’s lap.
Emma breathes in another deep breath and her eyes finally search the room. They settle on Lucy who is actively avoiding her gaze.
“Lucy.” Faye calls to the brunette who sniffs heavily.
Lucy turns back to Emma but keeps her eyes lowered. “I-” She coughs as her words get caught in her throat and runs a hand through her hair.
“Take your time.” Alistair says softly.
Lucy sits up straighter and finally gazes into Emma’s eyes. “Do you remember when I messaged you about my break up with he who must not be named?”
Emma nods, watching the brunette intently.
Lucy fiddles with her hands and swallows deeply. “I… in a moment of grief and feeling like my world had imploded, I had gathered all the medication I could find and I was gonna end it.”
The room stills at Lucy’s confession and Emma feels her heart break for her friend.
Lucy sniffs and tears fill her eyes. “I was so ready to check out, I was so done. I even wrote a note to Lois.” Rubbing her hands on her thighs, Lucy takes a shuddering breath as she begins to cry. “But then there was a knock on my door and I hid the pills and the letter. I opened the door and you were standing there-” Lucy breaks down and Emma goes to get up to comfort her, but both Fay and Alistair motion for her to stay seated. “You were standing there with a mountain of my favourite foods, films and booze. You just came over, I didn’t ask you to but you came anyway.” Lucy wipes under her eyes and takes a shuddering breath. “Do you remember what you told me?”
Emma shakes her head, but does remember how distraught Lucy had been.
“You pulled me into your arms and said that no matter what happens, you were there for me. And I want to say the same to you. That no matter what, I am here for you, you are not alone in this. Not anymore. And I’m sorry I made you feel that way.” Lucy’s voice breaks and more tears roll down her cheeks, causing Robyn to take her hand, giving it a slight squeeze.
One after the other the group tell Emma stories of how she helped them, how the world would be a darker and gloomy place without her. For all of them their eyes misted over and they voiced their genuine thoughts.
It pained Emma greatly that she put them through this but Alistair reassured her that it was a good thing that she was hearing it.
“Thank you Winn.” Alistair says encouragingly after Winn manages to calm his sobbing cries. “And finally, Lena.”
Emma feels her stomach twist and her heart drop, her eyes slowly move to Lena’s mournful gaze and Emma wishes she could run.
“Emma?” Fay asks and Lily sits up, sensing Emma’s distress. “Take deep breaths.”
Emma does so, but her lungs feel like they aren’t drawing enough air in.
“Lena? Do you want to say anything?” Alistair asks kindly and Lena nods. Although Emma can see how uncomfortable Lena looks, despite her blank expression. The vein on her forehead was protruding and despite how Lena is trying to look relaxed, Emma could see Lena’s body was tense.
“I am truly sorry for what I did to you. I know no amount of words will ever repay for what I did and it shouldn’t.”
Emma’s breath shudders and her heart starts to crack and break at the sincere tone in Lena’s voice. How her eyes and face soften.
It starts to become too much for her as Emma remembers the level of hate and annoyance in those eyes from all those months ago.
“And I just want to say, if you ended your life, I wouldn’t be able to go on. Because despite what I’ve said in the past, you are my world and it wasn’t an illusion-”
Before Emma registers what she is doing her body has already jumped to its feet and she races for the door.
She hears her name being called and the sounds of movement as they go to chase after her.
“No, wait.” Alistair orders and Emma gets stopped by Lily on the porch.
The blonde tries to move past Lily but she wasn’t having any of it.
“Emma.” Lena’s voice says softly behind her. “Please, communicate with me. I know this is selfish but I want to make this right, even if you never want to see me again.”
Emma sighs heavily and turns around to face the raven haired beauty.
“Thank you.” Lena says sincerely. “After I left you, the morning before-” Lena falters and inhales deeply. “Before I broke your heart, I was summoned to see Lillian. I went to see what she wanted, knowing I had plenty of time to get back for our… for the date.” Lena crosses her arms and shivers, feeling the chill of the winter air. Emma holds a finger up to ask for a moment and quickly grabs one of her hoodies from a stand by the door. She doesn’t look at the others but immediately hands it to Lena, who looks touched by the gesture. “Thank you.” She puts it on and Emma notices Lena relaxes a bit more.
“There’s no easy way to say this but Lillian and Lex were waiting for me and they told me they heard the Shadows were after you. That you were a prime target due to our relationship and if we broke up, you wouldn’t be harmed.” Lena lets out a dark chuckle. “And I fell for it, I fucking believed them and look what happened. When I saw you on that bridge and realised you were the target, I knew I had been played a fool.” A sob breaks from Lena’s lips. “I wanted to protect you and I did the opposite. I caused this! I am so sorry. I know I broke your heart and I am so, so sorry.”
Lena breaks down and Emma instinctively wraps her arms around her. She closes her eyes at how warm her heart feels hugging Lena. How, despite everything, it feels like home.
“I’m sorry.” Lena repeats over and over as she clings to Emma, her cries being muffled by the top of Emma’s chest.
Emma rubs circles in Lena’s back, wishing she could somehow reassure her. Deciding to try, Emma swallows and opens her mouth.
“Lee.”
Lena immediately stops crying, unsure she really heard her name. Her head snaps up and she stares at Emma with wide eyes. “Did you?”
Emma nods with a sad smile. “Lee.” She whispers again, her voice is cracked and husky but the joy of hearing it sends both women into a hysterical state.
Kara and Sam come rushing out and the others follow.
“Say it again!” Kara demands.
Emma opens her mouth and whispers again. “Kar.”
Alex steps forward beside Kara.
“Al.” Emma croaks and coughs.
“Sweetheart.” Eliza cries out.
“Mom.” Emma answers and finds herself surrounded in a big group hug where everyone is laughing and crying all at once.
– – –
When the group calms down it is decided they will have a break for lunch and then they will continue on with the session.
After eating and feeling utterly drained, Emma curls up on the sofa with Lily and takes a quick nap. Only being woken half an hour later when Fay takes Lily outside for a bit, but Alex quickly takes Lily’s space and holds her.
“I’m so proud of you.” She says softly and Emma snuggles into her sister. The heaviness surrounding her heart and mind was slowly fading and Emma felt she was able to breathe more clearly for the first time in a very long time.
“Love you.” Emma husks out, causing a bit of discomfort in her throat and she coughs. She hears Alex sniff heavily and pokes her head up to see what’s wrong.
“I love you too.” Alex whispers back and rubs the shaved parts of Emma’s hair.
Soon the group are called back to the sofas and Emma has to begrudgingly let go of Alex. She sits up and Lily jumps back onto the sofa by her side.
“Okay everyone, we had a great session this morning and I imagine we are all feeling a bit depleted but it would be wise to keep going.” Alistair encourages the group and they are given the chance to say anything more and they discuss how they can move forward. Together.
“Lena?” Fay asks, catching her attention. “Do you have anything else to add?”
“I do.” Lena shuffles in her seat. “I wanted to apologise to all of you too. I kept the truth of what was going on a secret and I will regret it for the rest of my life.” Lena looks intently over at Emma. “I know we still have a way to go and if you are willing, maybe we could have some sessions together?”
Emma nods slightly. ‘I’ll think about it, I want to have some time to process what you told me. I am angry, sad and frustrated, but I want to give you a chance.’
Lena nods and looks slightly relieved at Emma’s response.
“If I may say, it sounds like a wonderful idea to give you two a chance to hear each other out properly and rebuild.” Alistair says encouragingly before looking at the group. “I would suggest we all meet again soon after we leave Midvale. Maybe in a month’s time?” Alistair asks and everyone gives nods of approval. “Now, I think it may be a good idea to share the steps Emma and I were talking about yesterday. Firstly, where Emma is going to stay.”
‘I cannot go back to the apartment, so I will need to look for a new place.’
“We can look for you, if that helps?” J’onn asks but Emma shakes her head.
‘I would like to look into it myself, get the feel of each apartment and I can stay in a hotel or something in the meantime.’
“Why don’t you stay with us?” Sam asks and Alex immediately nods.
‘Are you sure?’
“Yes of course!” Sam says, almost outraged at the question. “We have a spare room that you can crash in.”
“Although the lady above us in the penthouse is really loud.” Alex says jokingly, causing Emma to tilt her head and Sam to look confused.
“Oh yea! She is extremely vocal, plays a lot of music, sings terribly in the shower and snores like a banshee.”
“I do not!” Lena yells, enraged at the couple’s teasing.
However, this makes Emma frown deeply.
“We moved into a new building and Lena moved into the penthouse above us.” Alex explains and Emma slowly nods in understanding.
‘Why?’ Emma asks in her mind and focuses on Lena.
“Because I kept seeing you everywhere in our apartment.” Lena answers simply.
Emma’s eyes shift to the necklace chain, partly hidden by the hoodie and feels a flutter in her stomach.
“Okay, so we have a plan in place of the living arrangements.” Alistair jots a few notes down.
“And if you ever want to come over to mine, you are more than welcome.” Kara offers and Emma smiles at her in thanks.
“Excellent. Also, I would advise that Emma starts to learn and train with her powers. Even if she doesn’t use them, this will help protect herself and those around her.” Alistair says mainly to J’onn and Alex.
“I couldn’t agree more.”
They start discussing logistics and Emma listens, but her mind starts wandering while stroking Lily’s fur.
Part of her was ready for these next steps, but it felt so daunting at the same time.
She didn’t want to die, not really, but the fear of the unknown still made her want to freeze and curl up into a ball.
However, while Emma gazed around the room at her family and friends, she started to feel the hope inside her start to burn a little brighter.

Into The Wild West pt. 9
Intro: Hello lovelies!! This is finally back, sorry for the delay!! I hope to get back on track with this series!! This series will honestly take me some time, but I will finish it no matter what!! I hope you all enjoy!! :)
Note: Dutch doesn’t take the encounter seriously, which upsets Y/N, Kara gets to know Sean a little bit, and Y/N has some alone time with Sadie.
Word Count: 1180
Part 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8
Looking at the note in your hand, you smiled before you shoved it into your pocket when you heard someone walking towards your tent, turning around just as Arthur poked his head in “You got a minute?” He asked, looking at you and you nodded, gesturing for him to take a seat while you sat down on your cot “What’s Dutch thinking? We can’t just let that threat slide!” You complained, looking at Arthur who nodded and sighed “I know, but he’s in charge here, you know that… But, he’s decided to move camp, they’re too close for his liking… Charles and I are going to head out shortly to find a new place for us to live” he said, looking at you and you couldn’t help but feel upset, you liked this place, but you knew it was for the safety of the camp.
“Do you want me to go?” You asked, looking at him and willing to go if he needed you “No, I think Dutch is going to need you for something else once we get to the new place… I just wanted to keep you updated on everything” he said, standing up and dusting himself off “Thanks… Are you sure you’re okay?” You asked, unable to keep his bloody face out of your head “I’m sure… You should see the other guy” he said, earning a small chuckle from you before you stood up and pulled him into a hug “I love you” you mumbled into his shoulder, feeling his arms wrap around you snugly “I love you too, kid” he said, giving you a small squeeze, the two of you hugging until you heard Charles call out for Arthur “You should go… You know not to keep him waiting” you chuckled, pulling back and giving him a smile “Oh I know, don’t get into too much trouble while I’m gone” he said, reaching over and ruffling your hair before he headed off, you watching him head off before you got your things together.
xxxxx
Kara had agreed to take first watch after dinner was done and everyone returned to their tents, her sitting on a rock not far from the small camp they had set up, sighing as she looked up at the stars… She missed National City, but at the same time, she was really growing on this place, the peace and quiet… Most days, she had honestly never seen this many types of animals before, and the being able to sleep under the stars every night was pretty nice, even though they were all basically hiding out while things calmed down in Blackwater, the fresh air was nice too, all she could get in National City was polluted with gas and oil and smoke.
“Anything out there?” She heard someone ask, causing her to jump as she turned towards the voice, seeing Sean standing there, him having found their camp before they ate dinner “Nothing but animals” Kara said, looking at him and watching as he sat down beside her, offering her a drink of his beer, her debating for a moment before deciding to just do it and taking a sip from it, the two of them falling into silence as they looked at the trees around them “You know, you guys aren’t too bad” Sean said, looking at her and Kara looked over at him when he spoke up “Did you think we were?” She asked, taking another drink of the beer “I didn’t know what to think honestly… Didn’t help I was still kidnapped when they found you guys… Y/N said you guys fell into a river?” He asked with a laugh before taking a gulp of the beer, the two of them falling into a comfortable conversation until Lena came out for her shift and the two of them said their goodnights before heading to their tents.
xxxxx
Using the moonlight, you made your way through the woods towards the lake Sadie had told you about, being sure to keep your eye out for anything, you knew that not taking Sid wasn’t the best idea, but you needed to stretch your legs. When you got to the lake, you saw Sadie already sitting on a log next to it, staring out towards the water and you stopped for a moment, letting yourself enjoy the view in front of you before you took a deep breath and headed towards her.
“Hey” you said, setting your pouch down in the dirt before sitting on the log as well, making sure there was some distance between the two of you to not make it awkward “Hey” Sadie said, not taking her eyes off the water and the two of you falling into comfortable silence until Sadie spoke up once more “Jake would always take me to the lake” she said “Granted it was always frozen, but it always seemed romantic, even if we were freezing our asses off, he still tried to make it the best time he could” she said, having a sad smile on her face as she looked at the water “He sounds like he was a good man… I’m sorry he was taken away from you” you apologized, knowing this whole thing hit her harder than she liked to admit.
Sadie nodded and offered a small laugh before she looked at you with a sad smile “He was a good man, best damn man I ever met… I thought I was going to spend the rest of my life with him” she admitted, biting her lip to fight back the tears since she was done crying over it, looking at her hand when you reached over and rested one of yours on hers “I know… But you gave him the best years of the rest of his life, you can’t beat yourself up over this” you said, able to tell she was blaming herself for his death “The people that killed him… They don’t care who they hurt, they don’t care what they have to do to get their way… You did the right thing, you would be dead too if you didn’t hide” you said, looking at her and watching as she shook her head and gave a scoff of a laugh, pulling her hand away from yours as she looked back out at the lake “Maybe I shouldn’t of hid… At least I’d be with him and not a coward” and you couldn’t help but feel your heart sink at that thought, you knew she wasn’t a coward, she wouldn’t still be going if she was, but how were you going to convince her of that?
You looked at her for a moment and inwardly sighed when she just stopped talking, able to tell this meet up was over, so you stood up and grabbed your pouch, throwing it over your shoulder “Have a nice evening, Mrs. Adler” you said, looking at her and sighing when she didn’t say anything so you just headed back towards the camp, wondering if what you had said was wrong.

National City had become your home after you and your family immigrated to the US from Y/H/C. The streets that once looked mysterious now were more than familiar. The library which took your time most of the afternoons. The park that was less than a mile away from your house where you went to find calmness when you could. The small cafe restaurant right around the park where you and your family went to celebrate sometimes when your parents could afford it. The small music store in which you spent your summers working and studying during your high school years. Everything was familiar, was safe and it didn't change with time.
You appreciated your family, you loved them and you couldn't be more grateful for them but there were times that you wish you understood them. Every day your parents had been putting pressure on your shoulders that sometimes was too hard to manage, there were comments of how you needed to look, how you needed to be, what you needed to be, and more. You kept quiet as both of your parents recited every day what was wrong with you and what needed to change.
With the passing of the years you learned to keep quiet and just go with whatever they were saying, it was easier. Easier to explain to them why you wouldn't want things, or why you would feel a certain way. And with two parents constantly reminding you how you need it to be to fit in society, you learned to keep quiet.
There were contradicting things, and comments that made you wonder about your life with them. Things like ‘We came here for you, we had a built life in our country but we wanted you to be better, small jokes about the LGBT community jokes about people with different weight and more. They would comment on what you were wearing, what you had done with your hair, why you wouldn't put makeup on, why you wouldn't hang out like the other kids, everything had always a small comment and you learned to live with it.
Sometimes you wished you would say something, as you cried in your bedroom until you couldn't more. You looked at the mirror and saw all of those imperfections that they had remarked, and you hated it. You hated the fact that you stood in front of a mirror and every single time there was a self-hatred coming from you.
You hated that you didn't look like they wanted as much as you tried. You hated that you weren't comfortable with everything you did even though they said that it was going to make you feel sure of yourself. You hated the fact that you couldn't go an hour, feeling like the best you could without having a comment on how you looked. How it wasn't appropriate for society, how you looked like a shadow, a scared child, someone who doesn't take care of themselves, how you just looked unpleasant even if you tried your best.
The black combat boots you had been longing for so long had finally found a way in your feet, after months of doubts and saving you had finally got them. You moved your feet as you sat in the car on the way to the restaurant with your family since a friend of your parents was in town.
A smile on your face as you check your outfit, a grey crew neck knitted with black mom jeans, and your small cross-body purse on your right shoulder. Without noticing you guys had arrived at the restaurant. You got out of the car, like the moon and the stars brighten the night, looking up smiling, you registered that it was the first night out your family had made a comment about how you look, and with victory, you started to walk to the sidewalk beside your family.
Your father looked up from his phone and eyed you from head to tone in a questionable glance, before sighing as he rubbed his temples. “Y/N, you look like a homeless person. Couldn't you at least find something good to wear in that closet of yours? We are dining with the O’mells, couldn't you at least look presentable ”
“Yeah, little sis looks like princess Fiona. All ugly” Your older brother joked as he laughed loudly, hitting you in the shoulder. Your bit the inside of your mouth as the insecurities started to come into your thoughts. Rubbing your shoulder carefully because of the impact.
Your younger brother interrupted, before both of the guys started to laugh. You looked down at your shoes, as you felt a tear ran through your cheek quickly cleaning it as you heard your father clearing his throat. “Don't get me started on the horrendous shoes, what are you a lesbian?”
“You have five minutes to look presentable, put on makeup so you don't look like a zombie, and next time you are not entering with us if you don't look like the lady you should be.” He said before opening the door of the restaurant as your mother gave you the keys to the car.
“Yes sir, I will. I’m sorry, so sorry” You responded immediately only to be ignored by them. You breathed in and out as you felt the need to let the tears fall but keep quiet looking at the car window as your reflection came across it.
Your head was so involved in your insecurities that you see the young black-haired woman that had been standing a few meters from you watching the scene unsolved.
Lena stood there captivated by you the moment you had gotten out of the car, completely forgetting the fact that she had called over a taxi. Clenching her jaw as she saw the way your family had basically shamed you. She waited until they had left and walked to where you stood in front of the car window.
Your Y/E/C eyes staring back at yourself lost in your head. Your hands held the car keys strongly, as a way to control your insecurities. You bit your lip as your eyes raked over your face, tears invading your eyes.
She slowly approached you before touching your shoulder softly. You flinched as she did, and turned around immediately with a concerned expression on your face. Your eyes looked down apologizing only for two green eyes to be looking right at you.
Her black hair falling on her shoulder, a green tucked-in shirt, and a concerned expression hidden behind the charming smile of the woman. Immediately speaking as she kept eye contact. “Hi, I’m Lena”
“I’m Y/N, Y/N Y/L/N” You responded introverted after a second with fidgeting hands.
“Lovely name, for a charming person” She stated flirtatiously with a smile. You looked at the green-eyed woman confused, the older woman tilted her head as you immediately looked behind you curiously because of her comment.
Noticing Lena’s expression you pointed at yourself, and the woman seemed to understand perfectly, nodding rapidly with a smile on her face before speaking. “You are quite lovely, and I would love to offer you dinner if you want tomorrow?”
“I-” You started as your insecurities flowed in. You were looking at the black-haired woman apologetically, only to stop as you looked over to the window to see your family on one of the tables smiling and laughing with the O’mells.
Looking away from them, you looked down and back up. Glancing at her before finishing talking as fast as you could, letting out a sigh which converted into a small smile when the green-eyed woman laughed as she put her hand out, asking for your phone. “Yeah, I would love to”
“Okay then. Here is my number darling. See you tomorrow at 7 here then.” She stated rapidly as her hand lingered on your phone, while you annotated your number on her phone.
A taxi stopped in front of the restaurant making the black-haired look away from you as she sighed. Lena walked closer leaving a small kiss on the palm of your hand before walking away. A redness crept on your cheeks as she did, making you look at the ground.
---
Ten months, ten great months. With hidden moments that made your heart flutter every time. Kisses that grounded you, comments that made you blush furiously, cuddles after hard days, dates that you wished to be never-ending, and moments that you cherish every second of it. Your insecurities and fears were forgotten by the comments Lena made, only coming out on small moments that were inevitable, moments when you felt the self-hatred coming back, moments where you loved everything except yourself.
The soft smell of plumerias invaded your nose as you sat in the university library, books surrounding your table as you studied with handwriting on the notebook and the other rubbing your temple while reading through the book in front of you.
You kept studying until a soft hand touched your waist softly, immediately you moved away looking at the person weirdly ready to argue with the person only to find your girlfriend in her business attire. The bouquet was full of plumerias on one of her hands and a large bag of food on the other hand with a charming smile on her face as she sat next to you.
Your face lightened up speaking and immediately blushed when she reached for your cheek leaving a small peak on it, trying to remove the evident red mark on your cheek she rubbed it softly with her hands. “Babe! What are you doing here?”
“Hello, love. I wanted to see you, plus I knew you weren’t gonna eat anything because of your research project and I miss you” She responded immediately smiling widely.
You tilted your head before shaking your head carefully looking at her before looking down to the carpet floor as you responded. “I miss you too, you didn’t have to come all the way here. You are a busy woman Lee, I’m not supposed to waste your time-”
“Darling, don't ever doubt that you are wasting my time. To me it's the best and most important part of my day is when I'm with you” She interrupted bringing your face up with her finger, closing the distance between the two of you immediately with a short breathtaking kiss. With your cheeks burning red, the two of you rested your foreheads with each other as she spoke softly looking at you as if you were the most precious thing on the planet, and with that glint in her eyes, she made you believe it.
---
The different laughs are heard on the balcony as the rest of Lena’s friends and somewhat your friends sat on the living room floor. Screaming, laughing, eating, and competing in another game night. You stand on the balcony with a wine cup and your phone answering the text your dad had sent you. Your dry and immediate response was already answered with a goodbye. Your fingers hovering over the keyboard as you hesitated and typed the wanted message only to remove it immediately as you took every last drop of the wine on your glass.
Staring at the lighted city, you wondered. You wondered if you were finally ready, you wondered if the feeling of happiness and butterflies in your chest would ever become pain again, you wondered if what your family had said over the years was true, you wondered if Lena would ever get tired of you, if she would wake up one day and realize the butterflies she once had for you were now gone, you wondered until you felt the familiar presence of your girlfriend hugging you from behind.
She murmured into your neck, as she rested her chin on your shoulder. Your scented shampoo and fragrance filling her nose makes her leave small kisses on your cheek while speaking “Are you okay?”
“I want to tell my parents, Lee” You immediately admitted turning around meeting the sight of your girlfriend. Her hair was down with small waves on the end, her oversized button-up shirt you usually wore in her apartment with rolled sleeves and some of the bottoms completely open revealing some of her freckles on her cleavage.
A sincere look of confusion, worries, and happiness on her face. Grabbing both of your hands delicately she spoke when you kept silent and started to fidget with your fingers. Rubbing the palm of your hand softly as she spoke. “Y/N, love, are you sure? Whatever you want to do, whenever, and however. I'm always going to be by your side”
When the words came out of her mouth, she didn't hesitate to bring you into a warm embrace, holding you close by the waist as you rested your head on her shoulder. The two of you swaying slowly at the sound of the music Kara had put on the TV while you spoke softly looking up to kiss her only to be interrupted by a yelling voice. “Thank you-”
“You took my potsticker! Lena, Alex took my potsticker!” Kara yelled, glaring at Alex. Alex kept her challenging stance glaring at her sister, Sam, and Lucy choking down the laugh as the Danvers Sisters kept up.
“You ate mine! Y/N come and defend my honor, your best friend's honor” Alex shouted desperately, making you laugh as you looked at Lena, seeing her chuckled before walking inside separating the two when she took the other box of potstickers out of the refrigerator, both of them running to the kitchen to either side of the black-haired woman.
You laughed as you saw Lena scold your best friend and her best friend, making them walk back to the sofa giving the potstickers to Sam and Lucy and leaving some for you and her. The Danvers duo sitting on the floor as they started to shuffle the cards quietly, pouting making everyone else laughed with you.
---
The silence that overwhelmed the car made your heart rate somewhat faster, thoughts, possibilities, doubts, and insecurities running through your head. As your now white knuckles were gripping the steering wheel. The sunlight of the afternoon made the pressure increase, the smell of the variety of pastries on the back of your girlfriend's car
Lena watched you worried as you sat quietly. It had been half an hour since you guys had arrived and there wasn't any movement from you, she wouldn't even know if you were breathing if your chest wouldn't move when you did. Worried now as she feared you hurting yourself, mentally. She decided to speak up softly putting her hands on top of yours which immediately softened in her hands. “Y/N/N, if you don’t-”
“I do, I'm ready” You pleaded while looking over at her, meeting her careful glance.
She responded, giving a small kiss on the cheek as you grabbed the pastries. Making you nod slowly as you got out of the car. “Okay, love. I'm right here by your side”
As you knocked on the door, the nerves that were once quiet now were rigging in your ears loudly. Your little brother opened the door and went to say something only to stop when his gaze fell on Lena, immediately accommodating his posture before opening the door completely with a smile on his face, to which Lena responded with another smile.
“Hey Jo, it's everyone here?” You asked for his attention only making him scoff, you shifted uncomfortably in your feet. A small voice in your head repeating the name again and again like a song as you stepped to the side.
He answered before extending his hand to your girlfriend. Lena looked at him weirdly, controlling her feelings when the 16-year-old kid called you that but kept the fake smile for your sake. “Yeah, but aren't you gonna present your charming friend? Thought you were better than that Fiona”
“I’m Joseph, you can call me anytime” He flirted with the green-eyed woman only to be ignored completely.
She claimed following your glance at the pictures on the wall. Various family photos on them and also photos of your brothers with awards and trophies and only a few of them of you. “Lena”
“Y/N is here and she brought company!” Your older brother yelled as you stood in the middle of the living room, Lena by your side.
Lena looked around as the two of you stood waiting for your parents, the house was completely clean, without a spot of dust in any place. Pillows, blankets, photos, books, and everything was perfectly placed, at first it seemed comfortable, cozy, and homey until she realized the fact that it looked too perfect. To perfect to be happy, to perfect to be comfortable, to perfect to make mistakes, to perfect to be yourself.
Your older brother was sitting on one of the edges of the couch with his phone in hand, glancing at Lena flirtatiously as she stood by your side. Your younger brother was leaning against the door frame texting when your parents came out of the kitchen.
They looked at you curiously before speaking. Your Dad immediately commented on what you were wearing before extending his hand to take Lena’s. You gulped down when Lena looked at you when you kept quiet only responding as respectfully as she could. “Couldn’t you at least look presentable?... Welcome to our home, I’m Y/F/N”
“Lena, Lena Luthor” She responded respectfully, shaking his hand and giving your mother a small smile.
Your older brother, Nick, questioned as he looked at you up and down, rolling his eyes right before glancing at Lena flirting “And how in the world did Scar score to be Lena Luthor’s friend?
Lena looked at you shocked when you kept quiet and avoided her glance. She was about to counter back a response only to be stopped by the sound of your voice.
Clear worry and fear in it. You fidget with your hands after you set the box of pastries aside hearing your mom commenting “Yeah, darling put those there before you look like all of those people on the TV, horrendous”
Lena clenched her fist and kept her head high, her expression slowly with each comment changing into her CEO character. Tensed muscles, head high, fake plastered smiles, and the confidence like she had the whole world in her hands. Even though her whole world was standing less than a foot away from her.
“I wanted to tell you guys something,” You said, taking a step towards them. All of your family watching curiously.
“I’m Y/S/T and she is my girlfriend, Lena” you continued as Lena took your hand for support. Your breathing had gotten quicker and the tears of fear in your eyes were evident, with a trembling lip as you spoke.
“That’s a good joke” Your younger brother responded letting out a small laugh while the rest of your family kept silent looking between you and your girlfriend.
“Just because you decided to look unpleasant all the time, making no guy ever attracted to you so you know decided to be with a woman” Your father was the first one to get out of the trance scoffing in annoyance and anger.
Your mother gasped yelling, with anger in her voice. “It’s a sin, Y/N!”
“It's a sin, Y/N. We are Christians just because you're immature and hideous and nobody is attracted to you, means you are going to break the rules, young lady” Your father claimed getting closer to you with a demanding voice, his finger pointing at you threat making you take a step back.
You pleaded to take a shaky step closer to him, only to immediately flinch as he screamed angrily. “Dad, plea-”
“NO! Absolutely no! We are not going to accept your idiotic tactics, just because you can't find someone to love you! Newsflash Y/N, like that you won't ever!” He screamed angrily, taking a step closer, making Lena step in with her CEO stand in front of you grabbing your family’s attention.
Tears came slowly out of our eyes as you looked down, biting your lip to keep the soft whimpers and sobs that were coming out. Your dad eyed the black-haired woman up and down before stepping back letting out a sarcastic laugh, making your girlfriend raise her eyebrow in question to him.
“And her! Do you really believe someone will love you? And will be attracted to you? A woman you know how complicated women are with their taste. You need to get the thought in your head that if you don't change. YOU WON'T EVER FIND LOVE!” He shouted.
“You have no reason nor sentiment to treat her like that!” Lena claimed as she stepped in front of your father. Clenched fits with white knuckles, a threatening stand, and an intense glare with a clenched jaw containing her anger.
You took a step forward putting a hand in her bicep making her turn around immediately, recognizing the soft touch of your hand. You spoke softly only to be interrupted by your mother’s yelling. “Lee, please. It doesn't matter-”
“Out of my house! NOW! And never ever come back until you change from being an abomination” She yelled as she slapped you, making you gasp before walking out of the door with tears coming down your eyes.
Lena glanced at them finding pain, hatred, insecurities, and more. The soft makeup you had on your face had become black spots on your face. Your Y/E/C colored eyes were hidden behind the redness. A red evident mark on your face where your mother’s hand had made contact with your skin. Every single detail made her angrier and angrier by second, losing control at the side of you hurting.
“She is perfect just the way she is, a completely passionate, sweet, kind, emphatic, wonderful, selfless person. And she is so much more of what you guys told her, she is perfect” Lena snapped as she felt the anger take over.
How dare they treat you like that? How dare they tell you those things? How could you stand to all of that? How dared they thought and said things like that of you? How couldn't they see the amazing human you were?
“This is my house-” Your father started as he looked at her angrier with a challenging look on his face in which your girlfriend returned.
She said, taking a step back, raging herself soothing her black dress. “It may be your house but first I will have to be dead for you or anyone else to treat the person who is my whole world like that”
“You know, you guys may think she is a complete mistake, abomination, and more but she is perfect, she is the person I fall in love with every single minute more and more. You guys are the ones losing the greatest thing in your life, I feel sorry for you but the truth is you don't deserve, hell I don't even deserve her. Have a great day and I think it's a little over the top but if any of you tries to reach Y/N just to be like that then I can sure I will make your life a living hell” She finished letting out a smile of satisfaction when all of them clenched their jaws and kept quiet before walking out. Leaving your family madly quiet in the living room.
Your knees were high and pressed into your chest as the furiously streams of tears came down. Somehow the smell of Lena in the car calmed you, the sweet smell of mint and lavender invaded your nose. The only sound you could hear was your heavy breathing. The passenger leather seat felt uncomfortable, the salted flavor of your tears on your lips as you cried, everything felt wrong as the thoughts and insecurities run through your head.
Everything they said was true.
You are an abomination, nothing and no one will love you.
So full of imperfections, so full of horrible things, full of-
“Love? I need you to breathe with me. In and out, darling please” You heard her pleaded as she grabbed your hand, noticing the way everything felt too close, too overwhelming, too bad.
Lena kept stroking your back as she kept your hand close to her chest making you feel the way her chest rises and falls trying to make you follow it. Your eyes kept staring at her hand with yours as your sobs started to calm down, and everything began to zoom out. In a blinking moment, you stumbled into your girlfriend's arms, holding her tight, hiding in her chest making Lena hold you as close as she could trying to keep her own tears out when she saw how hurt you were. With her reassuring and words, the minutes passed slower than usual.
“I’m sorry” You murmured repeatedly into her neck, as she started to stroke your hair. When tears began to fall again from your eyes.
She didn't wait for another second to bring your face to rest on her forehead, both of you sharing an Eskimo kiss. The closest, the comfort of it brought you happiness and butterflies in your stomach which were abruptly kicked out when the thought of what your family said came back to you.
You pulled away meeting green tearful eyes, which made your heartbreak more. The voice in your head telling you it was all your fault, that she wouldn't want you anymore or that she ever wanted you because your family had opened her eyes to what you truly were. With a shaky and broken voice, you commented fearfully as you glanced back to her eyes and your trembling hands. Scared of what was going to happen next, scared of everything as you tried to hold on to the happiness she had made but you knew the moment, Lena would say the words. You will break in million pieces, beyond repair and everything would feel worse than it was before because you had met your sun and without it, the night would remain constantly reminding you of her “It’s okay if you don’t want me anymore, I know what they said it's true-”
“Y/N, what they said wasn't true. You are far away from what they said you are perfect and wonderful and I don't know how they can see you like that because all I can see is my whole world, the love of my life, my person” She interrupted cleaning your tears with her thumbs as she grabbed your face by the cheeks bringing you closer to her slowly.
Holding you like if you were glass, afraid of breaking it, afraid of losing it or damaging it because to her you were the best thing in her life and she wasn't going to let you go. It was the moment your eyes met, when you saw, heard, and felt everything. There was an understanding of what the two of you meant, all the love, all the happiness, and the pain, everything was there standing freely in silence.
In a silence that made you believe it, she made you believe every word, every action, and the love and comfort which radiated out of her expression made you forget everything. The comforting and loving silence was more than enough to let everything behind, to dream of the desired future you both wanted. It was perfect, you wouldn't change a thing of what you were feeling or what had happened because everything led to that moment, the moment you knew you were going to be okay, the moment you realize that for the first time in your life you felt like enough, the first moment in your life you called something that was part of you perfect. The happiest moment of your life for now.

Broken Melody - Part Fifty Nine
Masterlist
Summary: Grammy Award winning Emma Danvers is the first to say she has a pretty good life. But what happens when it implodes around her and it looks like things will never be the same again?
Words: 8k
Warnings: ⚠️ Major level angst and suicidal thoughts ⚠️
Pairings: Alex Danvers x Sam Arias, Kara Danvers x OC
This Part: Emma is trying to cope with her break up with Diana, but has everything become too much and she finally snaps?
Okay, this has been a very difficult chapter to write as I'm poured a lot of myself and my own thoughts into this. Please understand that everyone reacts differently to situations so the way in which Emma deals with everything may not be how you would deal with it. Plus everyones mental health journey will be different from yours. This is based on mine.
Also, please do not read if you aren't feeling up to it. I am happy for you to DM me and I can talk you through what has happened.
Remember, you are loved, you are enough and you are important.
Thank you for reading and let me know if you wanna be tagged or any general feedback will be greatly appreciated. Please! I like knowing your thoughts.

Eliza stares up at the ceiling, clinging to J’onn as they lay in bed. Her heart is breaking for her daughter, she just wants to make things right for her baby girl. Her mind worries what this could do to Emma, who has already been through so much. How much more could she take?
When everyone had gone to bed Eliza sobbed quietly into J’onn’s shoulder while he comforted her. Crying tears of his own. It had worried them greatly how much pain they witnessed within Emma’s eyes, despite her blank expression.
Eliza notices the room is slowly getting brighter and decides she isn’t going back to sleep. She sighs heavily and slowly sits up, causing J’onn to stir and gently places his hand on her back.
“Are you okay?” J’onn whispers softly.
“I just can’t sleep anymore.” Eliza answers quietly before getting up and wrapping a dressing gown around her. J’onn yawns and sits up while Eliza quietly leaves the room. She heads down the hallway and pauses outside Emma’s door. Hearing silence from the room she carefully opens the door as quietly as she can.
Alex and Kara both sadly gaze up at her, their eyes shining in the early morning light. Emma is in between them clinging to Alex’s front while Kara is pressed against her back.
Eliza comes over and sits on the edge of the bed. “Have either of you slept?”
Both of her daughters shake their heads.
“Has Emma?”
“She’s just fallen asleep.” Alex whispers mournfully and yawns.
“She’s been crying for hours.” Kara whispers defeatedly.
Eliza nods and focuses on Emma’s face. Clear tear streaks have dried down her cheeks and her expression is one of clear distress, despite being asleep. Eliza swallows deeply and tenderly tucks some hair behind Emma’s ear.
“Get some sleep.” Eliza whispers and kisses the top of Alex and Kara’s heads. Her daughters snuggle back into Emma and close their eyes. Eliza sadly watches them and gets up to quietly leave the room. She heads downstairs and hovers by the door while J’onn and Robyn have a discussion.
“Was she as bad as this?” J’onn asks while pouring hot water from a kettle into three mugs.
“She was worse in some ways, but she didn’t look so defeated, so lost.” Robyn thanks J’onn for the cup of tea and taps the mug in thought. “For weeks she stayed in bed, stared blankly into space, would hardly eat anything and only slept occasionally.” Robyn sighs. “Eventually I knew I had to get her up and out of the flat, that’s why I booked Abbey Studios to try and coax her out. Told her my management had done it instead. Thankfully the plan worked and she kept herself busy and helped me with my album. But, other than the de-stress room, I don’t think she truly dealt with it.”
Eliza makes her presence known and sits on the other stool. J’onn slides her coffee to her. “It being?”
“The break up, how she felt abandoned.” Robyn takes a sip of her drink, noticing how J’onn and Eliza’s heads lower. “Plus she hadn’t figured out about her powers yet and had the nosebleeds, headaches etc.”
“But?” J’onn asks, hearing Robyn’s thoughts race around.
“But, I feel she’s worse. Her eyes look even more dead and I thought she had hit rock bottom after Luthor broke up with her. This time, it feels like she’s slammed through that rock bottom and is free falling again.”
“Is there-” Eliza’s voice cracks and she swallows to ease the tension in her throat. “What did you do to help her?”
“In the beginning I just tried to support her. Bring her food, sit with her. Maybe we can book another de-stress room? Or you guys can make one?” Robyn tilts her head as her eyes flick between the couple.
Footsteps sound on the stairs and Sam appears in the doorway. “What is a de-stress room?” She yawns and sits on the other stool. J’onn goes to make her a cup of coffee.
“It’s a room or warehouse with items that you can break. Stuff like crockery, broken electronic equipment, the one I took Em to had a car. She beat the crap out of it.” Robyn shakes her head, remembering the disbelief she felt watching Emma bend the metal like it was nothing.
“We could arrange something like that.” J’onn says and passes Sam her drink.
“And what about Alistair?” Sam asks softly while taking a sip of her drink.
“I’ll contact him.” J’onn says and nods in approval of Sam’s suggestion.
“Yea, she mentioned him and his dog, Lily.” Robyn confirms.
They sit in silence, all lost in their own thoughts.
Hours pass and eventually everyone comes down to begin the day. Other than the Danvers sisters.
The group quietly plays a few games until it is time for lunch.
“Shall I go wake them?” Sam asks after she had set up the table with Lena.
“No, leave them to rest.” Eliza says softly and sits in her usual seat while Ruby goes to sit next to Lena and gives the raven haired woman a long hug.
They begin eating but the mood around the table is quiet and sombre.
Ruby fidgets and plays with her food, a frown sits permanently on her face while she thinks.
“Rubes?” Sam asks, noticing her restless daughter.
“It’s nothing.” Ruby says quietly.
“Your crinkle says otherwise.” Lucy says lightheartedly, causing Ruby to try and relax her face.
The teen glances at Lena before telling the group what’s on her mind. “I just, I can’t believe Diana did that.” Ruby huffs out. “Why did she do it?” She turns back to Lena, her eyes glistening with tears. “Why did she do that to you? What did you do? Why did she hurt Emma? I thought she loved her-” A sob erupts from Ruby’s mouth, Lena reaches out to hug her and Sam makes her way over to her daughter.
“We won’t know for sure and it’s better not to speculate.” Brainy answers and a few others nod.
“Will you go looking for her?” Ruby gulps out, feeling more and more conflicted over her feelings towards Diana.
“No, I don’t believe we will.” J’onn answers and Ruby deflates in relief. “Although I have contacted Bruce Wayne and he is going to look out for her.”
“I disagree.” Winn slams his hand on the table.
“Winn-” Lena starts softly but is cut off.
“She hurt you! Almost gave you second degree burns and I still stand with that cause your skin would have blistered if not for Emma healing you.”
Before anyone can say anything Sam’s head whips up and she places her fingers against her lips. “They’re awake.”
Eliza immediately starts plating up food for her daughters and the group hear footsteps coming down the stairs.
Kara enters first, her face is sullen but she gives Ben a glum smile. She leads a downcasted Emma into the room with Alex right behind their sister.
Kara continues to lead them over to the three empty chairs where Alex and Kara help Emma into the middle one. Tears continue to drip from Emma’s puffy eyes and she sniffs heavily, breaking everyones’ heart in the room.
After some silence Ben takes a deep breath. “So, what are the plans for the next couple of days?”
The Superfriends try to keep conversation light and upbeat as they list off things they haven’t done yet.
“Could we go bowling?” Ruby asks hopefully.
“That sounds like a great idea.” Alex smiles over at her.
“With Emma wearing dampeners this time!” Lucy laughs but Emma’s lips barely move into a smile.
“Are we still going to the new year party in town?” Nia enquiries.
“Yes, or we can stay here.” Eliza says with a small smile.
“So no fancy galas?!” Ruby asks excitedly, making Lena chuckle.
“No fancy galas. Well, there is one but Jess is taking care of it.” Lena explains before focusing on Alex. “I will need to return to L-Corp after the new year.” Lena presses and the redhead tilts her head. “I have some projects that I cannot-”
“I understand Lena.” Alex says softly. “But would you be willing to have some DEO agents to enter your security team?”
“It would make me feel more comfortable.” Kara says, activating her puppy dog eyes, knowing Lena struggles to say no to them.
Lena shakes her head and rolls her eyes at the gesture. “Fine, but they have to wear suits, none of the body armour or DEO uniform.”
“Agreed.” Alex confirms.
Lena nods and her eyes quickly glance over at Emma, who pushes her food around her plate. A pang hits her and she swallows at the sight.
“As nice as it has been in Midvale we will need to return back to normality at some point.” Lucy sighs.
“Yea, even with all the drama.” Nia jokes. ”Life of a Superfriend I guess.” Nia smiles and a few of the others laugh.
But Emma’s head lowers even more. How can she return to normality when her normal has crashed and burned. The thought of going back to her apartment in National City fills Emma with dread and anxiety. Even though she feels completely broken and numb, a deep grief hits her heart. Her mind starts going through every mistake she has made, analysing every wrong doing she did that made Lena and Diana leave her.
‘I’m never enough.’ Emma thinks brokenly and her face crumbles. She sniffs loudly, a lump enters her throat and tears threaten to spill over again. She starts rocking to soothe herself but this draws the attention of the others.
“Oh sweetheart.” Eliza says and reaches over Alex to take Emma’s hand.
The sisters go to comfort Emma as well but it gets too much for her, she lets go of Eliza’s hand and pushes Alex and Kara off her. She rushes from the room and escapes back to the safety of her bed, voicelessly sobbing the whole way.
Alex presses her lips together and silently communicates with Kara. The blonde has tears gathering in her eyes and nods. They quickly get up to follow Emma. Alex grabs some bottles of water along the way and Kara carries their plates of food up. They find her curled up under the covers, Alex pulls them back, revealing Emma’s scrunched up face as she voicelessly cries.
“Oh little one.” Kara says sadly and they climb back into bed to comfort their baby sister. Kara gently pulls Emma onto her lap and Emma immediately clings to her. Kara gently rocks her back and forth while softly singing a Kryptonian lullaby. Alex scoots closer and gently strokes Emma’s face. Both wishing they could take Emma’s pain away.
Some time later Emma has calmed down and is still curled up on Kara’s lap. Alex watches with concern as Emma’s eyes become more and more empty. She tries to softly reassure her sister that everything will be okay, that they are there for her. But it seems Emma isn’t listening or can’t hear her. At some point Emma buries her head into Kara’s chest and her hair blankets her face from view. But she does take Alex’s hand, which makes the redhead want to tear up.
There is a gentle knock on the door and Alex quietly calls out for them to enter. She turns to see who it is and Sam silently comes into the room.
“Hey, how is she?” The brunette asks as softly as she can.
Alex shakes her head slightly, hating how depressed Emma has gotten and wishes she could think of a way to help her.
Deep compassion crosses Sam’s face and her shoulders sag. “Due to the sunshine we are thinking about going for a walk down to the beach.”
“Hear that Em?” Kara says gently and looks down at her sister but she is unable to see her face due to the mass of blonde, wavy hair. Alex reaches out and tenderly moves Emma’s head to face her and parts the damp hair. Her heart breaks at how dead Emma’s eyes have become.
“Would you like to go down to the beach for a bit? Get some fresh air?” Alex asks kindly but Emma’s eyes stay unfocused. “Emma?”
Suddenly Emma blinks and focuses again.
“Hey, there you are.” Alex smiles brightly at her sister. “We are going to go down to the beach for a bit, it will be good to get some fresh air, stretch our legs?”
Emma stares at Alex for a few more seconds until she hesitantly nods.
“Great, I’ll let everyone know you are coming.” Sam smiles and leaves the room.
Taking a deep breath in, Emma sluggishly lifts herself off Kara and rolls off the bed. She shakily stands to her feet and heads to her wardrobe.
“It’s a little bit chilly so dress warmly.” Alex orders before leaving to change into her own clothes.
Emma doesn’t acknowledge her and instead keeps staring at her clothes. She doesn’t even hear Kara superspeeding to the room she was sharing with Ben and changing to then rush back to her side.
“Need a little help?” Kara asks gently and Emma lowers her head in defeat, unable to decide what to wear. “Okay, well jeans, t-shirt, nice top.” Kara starts pulling the items off and laying them on the bed. “Hoodie… Do you want to wear your Supergirl hoodie or something else?”
Emma points at the wardrobe and Kara selects a baby blue, pink and orange tie dye hoodie. She helps Emma change and takes her hand to lead her downstairs. Something little Emma did when Kara first joined the family. The action isn’t lost on Kara and she somewhat feels she is repaying Emma for her unconditional kindness and love all those years ago.
“Here they are.” J’onn says with a smile and hands them their coats. He frowns at Emma’s vacant expression and tries to listen in on her thoughts, but he cannot make sense of the mass of noise coming from Emma’s mind.
Kara takes the leather jacket and puts it on Emma with the help of Robyn. Alex gets Emma’s converses and puts them on her feet with Kara helping to keep Emma steady so she doesn’t fall.
The Superfriends sadly watch and a few go outside to wait, hating seeing Emma in this state.
Lena walks further from the house and crosses her arms, she gazes at the area Diana had trapped her in. The words Diana had yelled at her as the lasso burned hotter. The utter terror and panic she felt.
“Hey.” Sam says as she comes up beside Lena, making her jump. “You okay?”
“Fine.”
“Hmm, fucked up, insecure, neurotic and emotional.” Sam lists off and a small smile graces Lena’s lips.
“Sounds about right.” She says softly.
The group emerges from the house and starts walking down to the beach. Emma is placed in the middle, being guarded from onlookers and surrounded by her friends and family. Alex and Kara link their arms with hers, which she clings to and keeps her head lowered.
Eliza and J’onn walk behind them holding hands. “Can you hear her thoughts?”
J’onn tries again but ends up shaking his head. “There’s too many thoughts jumbling together. I can’t make sense of it.”
Eliza sighs heavily, worried about her baby girl. “When can Alistair come over?”
“Tomorrow morning.” J’onn says unhappily. “If I could I’d go and get him now but he has prior commitments.”
They make their way onto the beach and Emma seems to come around as she smells the salty air. She lowers herself onto a rock and stares at the rolling waves.
For a brief moment her mind quietens and she leans down to take her converses and socks off. She rolls up her jeans and heads towards the surf, hugging her arms tightly around herself.
When her feet touch the freezing sea, Emma doesn’t even flinch. She takes deep breaths and keeps her eyes fixed on the horizon.
‘How easy would it be just to keep walking and disappear forever?’ Emma’s mind wonders quietly and her destructive thoughts start to whirl.
The tide keeps hitting her calves and rolls back out again before whooshing over her now numb feet.
But Emma stays perfectly still.
Robyn watches her best friend while sitting next to Lucy. She pulls her phone out and takes a photo, framing Emma perfectly in the middle. She lowers her phone and sadly gazes down at it.
“Robyn? You okay?” Lucy asks and the brunette gently shakes her head.
“Something’s wrong, I’ve never seen her like this. Well, she was similar but not this bad.” Her worried crystal blue eyes focus on Lucy’s before moving past her to Lena. Robyn frowns at the raven haired woman’s sorrowful expression but turns back to Emma.
They watch as Ruby takes her shoes off to stand next to Emma. When her feet hit the water she shrieks and retreats, causing Emma to spin around.
When she sees what has happened Emma’s face breaks out into a genuine smile. Ruby makes another attempt and squeaks with every footstep she takes trying to get closer to the blonde. Emma holds out her hand, which Ruby takes.
“It’s so cold!” Ruby squeals and Emma chuckles deepy. Taking pity on the teen she wades back to the shoreline and Ruby starts gathering rocks. She hands a few to Emma to throw into the ocean. Emma takes them and starts expertly skimming them out to sea, remembering the amount of times she did this with her Dad.
“How do you do that?” Ruby asks in frustration as each of her rocks slam into the water.
Emma takes her hand and manoeuvres it, showing Ruby the correct flicking motion.
“Can we be of any assistance?” Brainy asks kindly and Winn, Alya, Mary and Nia join them on the shoreline. Mary and Nia play with the tide to not get wet. Winn, trying to show some strength, allows the wave to roll over his feet. But, similar to Ruby, shrieks at how cold the water is, making Emma roll her eyes and smile.
Emma motions for them to show Ruby too. After a few tries Ruby finally skims a rock that jumps a few times before plopping into the sea.
“I did it!” Ruby yells triumphantly and Emma pulls her into a one arm hug before Ruby high fives and hugs the others.
Nia’s eyes meet Emma’s but the blonde turns back to the horizon and she takes a few deep breaths in. She feels Nia get closer but doesn’t turn to look at her.
“I’m sorry I didn’t get to speak to you yesterday. What happened after Brainy woke me up?” She asks quietly. “It roared ‘I am your doom’. Did you see it, did it hurt you?”
Emma nods for the first question and then shakes her head for the other, but not really wanting to communicate about the grotesque monster that had charged at her. But she couldn’t shake the image of the hateful glowing red eyes or its vengeful howl. “I will destroy you and everything you love!”
“Little one?” Kara’s voice breaks through, making Emma blink. “We’re heading back to the house.”
Emma sighs and lowers her head. Nia links arms with her as they slowly make their way back up to the beach.
“Do you want to put your shoes on?” Kara asks and Emma shakes her head, being used to walking barefoot. Especially on the path back home.
She listens to the Superfriends chatting and Lena’s laugh at a silly joke Winn had said, but her mind turns to Diana.
Absentmindedly she fiddles with the glass heart that her girl- ex had given her. A pang of grief hits her chest and her head explodes with pain, causing her to stumble into the side of a tree.
“Emma!” Alex yells and is beside her in an instant.
Emma’s vision is blurry from the tears gathering in her eyes, she voicelessly starts sobbing and slides to her knees. Unable to keep herself upright due to her overwhelming grief and pain.
‘I’m never enough.’
Hands steady her and try to rub soothingly into her arms and back. But Emma cannot hear the comforting words of her Mom and sisters. Instead she focuses on the hateful and malicious words screaming at her in her mind.
“Pathetic.”
“-keep wasting my time-”
“You are weak!”
“-what good are you-”
“Waste of space.”
“-can’t pretend to love you-”
“I don’t love you.”
“-nothing more than a distraction-”
Over and over the voices scream at her. She rocks and cries, feeling the build up behind her scrunched up eyes.
“Emma.” Lena’s calm voice whispers softly over the others.
Emma feels familiar, comforting hands take her own.
“Please hear me.” Lena’s voice pleads.
Emma continues to rock, the pain behind her eyes intensifying.
“You are enough, you’ve always been enough.” Lena whispers so tenderly.
“SHE’S LYING!” A voice yells in her mind.
“You are incredible, you light up a room as soon as you walk into it.”
“DON’T LISTEN TO HER!”
“I love everything about you. Your smile, your kind heart, the way your nose scrunches when you laugh-”
“YOU CAN’T TRUST HER!”
Emma lunges forward and lets go of Lena’s hands to tightly place them over her eyes.
She silently screams at the blinding pain in her head.
“Emma, just let go.” Lena says softly.
Emma’s hands are suddenly forced down by someone else and her eyes snap open in shock. A surge of golden heat vision blasts into a nearby boulder. It begins to glow with the intense heat and finally explodes.
Finally it dies out and Emma sways as a droplet of blood falls from her nose. She feels arms encircle her as she falls backwards. Her head rests on Alex’s shoulder and she stares blankly up at the clear blue sky.
“Em?” Alex asks worriedly.
“I believe she is okay.” Brainy says beside her and continues to analyse the blonde’s condition.
“Why did you do that?” Alex seethes at him. “You could have gotten Lena hurt.”
This catches Emma’s attention and her eyes move to Brainy before finding a clearly concerned Lena being held by Sam.
If Sam hadn't yanked Lena away before Emma’s eyes opened, there’s no telling what would have happened.
“She needs to unlock her powers, the longer she waits the more pain she is in.” Brainy explains passionately.
Kara kneels quickly next to Alex. “We should get her inside, there are people coming up the path.”
Alex nods and glances down at an exhausted Emma. But what worries her more is how her sister’s eyes have glazed over. “Can you carry her?”
Kara nods, carefully placing her hands under her baby sister and gently lifts her up. They walk quietly to the house where Kara places Emma on one of the sofas in the back room.
Alex gets a cold, wet cloth and diligently starts cleaning the tears and blood off of Emma’s face.
“Em? Can you hear me?” Alex asks softly but Emma keeps staring ahead, unable to break out of her thoughts.
After Alex finishes her task she carefully lifts her sister’s torso, supporting her neck and sits down, resting Emma’s head on her lap. She tries communicating with her sister again but Emma continues to stare off into the distance.
“Do you wanna play UNO?” Ruby asks hopefully, holding the pack up.
“Have you asked anyone else?” Alex asks and Ruby nods.
“They are all up for a few games.” Ruby answers and glances down at Emma. “Em, do you wanna play?”
But Emma doesn’t acknowledge her.
“What’s wrong with her?” Ruby asks with wide eyes.
“She’s resting, do you remember how tired you got after our first training session?”
Ruby nods.
“Well Em’s been thrown in the deep end and it’s taking more of a toll on her. She’ll be okay.” Alex says and strokes Emma's hair. “Why don’t you clear the coffee table and we can play around that?”
Ruby does so and the Superfriends gather around. Kara, Ben and Lucy sit in front of the sofa so they wouldn’t have to jostle Emma to have her lie on their laps.
They manage to enjoy the games and a few hours pass. Alex periodically looks down to check on Emma, but she hasn’t moved or made any noise. Soon a light dinner is served and Alex tries to get Emma to respond about eating. But her eyes remain glazed over. The Superfriends chat amongst themselves, Kara and Alex watch as Lucy and Robyn continue to get more and more cosy with each other.
Kara raises an eyebrow at her sister when Emma suddenly takes a big intake of breath, causing Alex’s head to snap down at her sister.
Slowly Emma’s hazel green eyes focus and she blinks up at a worried looking Alex.
“Hey, we really must stop meeting like this.” Alex jokes but Emma stares up at her blankly, making Alex frown.
“Sweetheart?” Eliza comes over to see her youngest daughter. “Would you like something to eat?”
Emma’s eyes sluggishly move over to her Mom but she makes no motion of what she wants.
“You need to eat, Peanut.” Alex says as she runs her hand through Emma’s hair.
“I’ll make you a grilled cheese.” Eliza decides and heads to the kitchen.
Kara pops up onto her knees and gazes down at her sister. “Hello there!” She says like Obi-Wan, hoping to get a reaction from Emma. The blonde slightly grins but it doesn’t reach her eyes. However, this was enough for Kara and Alex.
Eliza brings the grilled cheese and Pepsi Max can over. Her sisters help Emma to sit up, but she only manages to eat half of it.
They start playing UNO again and Emma seems to pull herself out of her slump. She smiles and jokes along and manages to win a few rounds. Soon a couple of hours have passed.
“How do you do that?!” Winn yells as Emma goes out again. She lightly grins and shrugs.
Alex yawns beside her and shakes her head to stay awake.
“I think we need to all head to bed early tonight.” Eliza comments and mostly everyone agrees.
“Ah noooo!” Ruby whines. “I’m so close to figuring out Emma’s strategy!”
Emma winks at her before getting to her feet. She hugs each Superfriend goodnight, holding on to each of them a bit longer than normal, even with Lena and heads up to bed with her sisters.
“You can go sleep in your own beds, I will be fine.” Emma signs but Alex and Kara shake their heads in sync.
“We are not leaving you, little one.” Kara pulls Emma into a hug to try and reassure her sister.
“Yea, we’d rather be here for you.” Alex confirms and heads into the bathroom to brush her teeth.
Emma nods and changes into her long, plaid pyjama bottoms and tank top. She goes to brush her teeth after Alex, crawls onto the bed and gets under the covers.
Her body is tense and restless. Her mind whirls in agony and she just wants it to end.
She lies flat on her back and waits for Alex and Kara to say goodnight to their partners. They come back and lay down either side of her. Alex turns the light off and Kara turns her dampeners on. They curl into Emma and fall straight to sleep, having been exhausted from the past few days.
But Emma stays awake as tears build up in her eyes before slowly dripping down the sides of her face.
After an hour she hears that both Kara and Alex are in a deep sleep. Their grip becomes lax and Emma carefully climbs out of the bed. She silently changes back into her clothes and writes a note, placing it on Alex’s side of the bed by the light.
Getting onto her knees she quietly pulls out the bag of alcohol and finds that only Kara’s alien alcohol is left. She grabs her backpack and puts in as many bottles as it can take.
Heading over to the window Emma looks over her sisters one last time and listens out to everyone in the house. Her hearing focuses on Lena’s light snores until she turns and silently opens the window. She carefully climbs out and slides the window shut. Pressing her hand on the glass, she takes a deep breath in and turns to jump down to the ground below.
Landing lightly she takes off into the night towards the forest, finding she can see perfectly in the darkness.
Her mind whirls as she runs and with each step the voices grow louder. With each step her resolve grows stronger.
Finally she makes it to her and Alex’s spot. The moonlight shines brightly on the cliff and Emma sits on the all too familiar boulder where she and Alex have had many talks.
Taking her backpack off Emma takes a bottle out, opens it and drinks. Wanting to numb the emotional turmoil she is feeling, hoping it will quiet the voices screaming in her mind.
But they continue to loudly point out her flaws, her weaknesses, her failings.
She repeats the process of gulping the alcohol down and opens new bottles, feeling the buzz surge through her body.
‘Never enough, weak, failure, disappointment, distraction.’ On and on Emma’s mind battles against her.
She taps the bottle and hears the clinging it makes. She lifts her hand and notices her many rings and bracelets that Diana had bought for her. She remembers each and every time Diana presented them to her. The smiles, the kisses, the endless hours of sex, the whispered I love yous.
Finishing the bottle she slams it beside her, smashing it to pieces and starts ripping off the jewellery Diana gave her. She goes for the necklace first, snapping it off her neck and flings it to the ground. Next are the rings before she rips the bracelets off one at a time. She gets to the last one, Ruby’s woven friendship bracelet and she halts.
Unable to break it she sniffs and looks at the carnage she has caused. The memories that are now broken and scattered on the rocky surface.
Her face scrunches up as tears fill her eyes. Sobs erupt from her mouth and she lifts her head back, bawling in utter agony.
Collapsing to her knees Emma punches the rock over and over while she cries. Having the satisfaction of feeling the cliff face vibrate with each punch. Her eyes burn and she allows the heat vision to spark to life. Carving deeply into the rock.
Finally it flares out and Emma collapses forward, feeling the rock on the cliff edge shift.
‘Please, just break, take me with you.’ Emma begs. ‘I don’t want to live anymore, I don't want to feel this pain.’
Emma sobs and pulls at her hair. The torment of her heart and mind becoming too much for her to handle.
– – –
Alex jumps awake. Something woke her up. She glances at the illuminated bedside clock and sees it has gone six in the morning.
Yawning, she reaches out for Emma but feels cold sheets behind her. Spinning round she notices that Emma isn’t between herself and Kara anymore.
She turns the light on and notices the note by the light.
“Mmmm, Al?” Kara whines out from being woken up by the light and covers her eyes with her hands.
‘I’m sorry.’
Alex’s blood turns to ice as she rereads the note. Something was wrong with Emma. She jumps up and sprints downstairs to grab her shoes and a hoodie. Ignoring Kara’s yells she races out of the house to find her sister.
Alex’s heart pounds as she runs through the forest and instinctively follows the path to their spot.
‘Please be there. Please be there.’ Her mind screams repeatedly.
Finally she makes it to the top of the cliff and her heart breaks at the sight of her sister kneeling on the ground with bottles scattered around her. Alex can clearly see Emma’s shoulders are shaking from her cries.
“Em.” Alex gasps mournfully, rushing to kneel in front of Emma with her back to the cliff edge and flings her arms around her. “I’m here, I got you.”
She feels Emma jump but she buries her wet face into the crook of Alex’s neck while her tears continue to fall.
“Just breathe for me, okay?” Alex says softly, trying to calm her sister. Eventually Emma takes a deep breath, pulls away from Alex’s arms and rubs her eyes before signing.
“Please leave me alone.”
“No, I am not leaving you.” Alex says passionately. “Look, I know I cannot fully understand what you are going through but I am not going to abandon you, not again. Please, I can’t live without you.” Alex’s voice breaks and tears roll down her face, her chin quivers. “Please listen to me.” She implores, seeing Emma was struggling to believe her. “I am so sorry for what I did. For allowing us to get caught and for hurting you, for killing you, for taking your voice away. I have to live with that pain everyday and those months when you were gone, I couldn’t breathe, I couldn’t think and the moment I saw you again-” Alex sobs and rests her forehead against Emma’s. “The moment I saw you again-” Alex lifts her head fully to gaze into Emma’s bloodshot eyes. “Was like taking a gulp of air after drowning. I feel whole again and I cannot ever imagine not having you here with me.”
Emma's face scrunches up with emotion and more tears fall.
“I love you. I love you so much and I will not let you down again. Not again. You hear me? I won’t let you down again.” She pulls Emma back into a hug and hears Emma’s ragged breathing. “We will work this out together. I promise. I love you so much.”
She feels Emma slowly lift her arms and hug her back.
“Please Em. Please keep fighting” Alex cries out.
Suddenly Emma pulls back and starts rocking, clearly in pain.
“Em? What’s wrong?” Alex asks but then can see the golden, glowing light behind Emma’s scrunched up eyelids.
‘Heat Vision.’ She thinks in alarm.
But Emma starts to panic and tries to blindly get away from her sister.
“Emma! It’s okay!” Alex pleads but Emma has managed to stumble to her feet. Causing herself to be dangerously close to the edge, terrifying Alex that she will fall. “Please Em!”
Alex stands and grabs Emma’s shoulder. The blonde jumps and her eyes snap open. A golden beam shoots from her eyes and hits the rock beneath them. Alex watches in horror as the cliff crumbles away and she starts falling to the ground far below them.
Alex screams loudly and Emma tumbles with her.
The redhead's life flashes before her eyes. Her regrets taking centre stage, not getting to marry Sam, being a Mom to Ruby. Making things right for Emma.
Emma.
Dark eyes connect with panicked hazel green. Alex tries to reach out for her sister but time is going too quickly. The wind whistles deafening past her ears as gravity pulls them ever closer to the ground. Despite this, Alex just keeps her eyes focused on her sister.
She watches as a determined look crosses Emma’s face and she reaches for Alex. She lunges forward and manages to grab a tight hold of her hoodie. Alex latches onto Emma’s arm and prepares herself for the end.
Suddenly they stop.
But there is no impact.
Alex quickly looks below them. They are still over fifty feet above the ground. The redhead looks around for Kara, Sam or J’onn. But there is only Emma.
“Em?!” Alex gasps out, realising that Emma is hovering. Emma reaches down with her other hand to get a firmer grip on her sister.
“Alex?! Emma?!” Kara’s voice yells out in terror within the forest, having heard Alex’s scream.
The redhead turns her head to the noise, Kara, Sam, J’onn, Eliza, Brainy, Nia, Lucy, Robyn, Winn and Lena appear in the clearing below. All gaping up at them.
Alex slowly turns her head back up to Emma. Who looks frightened and pale. “Em?” Alex asks softly, although her grip is like a vice on Emma’s arms. “Can you lower us back to the ground?”
The blonde bites her lips and looks at the forest floor.
But nothing happens.
“Peanut?”
Emma shakes her head as they stay hovering in place. She is worried that if she moves they will drop quickly. And at this height Alex could be seriously hurt or killed.
Emma looks back down at the ground, at the Superfriends. She feels the panic and guilt inside her growing steadily and she begins to shake, jolting Alex.
“Hey, hey, it’s okay. Look at me. Focus on me.” Alex says soothingly, recognising Emma’s distress.
Emma’s wide eyes snap back to Alex’s calm ones.
“Erm, are you guys gonna come down soon?” Kara yells up at her sisters, itching to fly up to them. She’s constantly listening for the nearby early morning hikers, praying they don’t head this way.
“Em?” Alex searches Emma’s face and she shakes her head again.
“I don’t know how.” Emma mouths, hoping Alex understands her.
Alex nods at what Emma has mouthed and she carefully turns her head sideways to the ground. Keeping her eyes on her baby sister, who tightens her hold on her clothes. “She doesn’t know how to.” Alex calls down to them but an idea enters her mind. “Kara, Sam, can you fly up here?”
A whoosh and the two are beside them. J’onn positions himself under the group, just in case he needs to catch them. Brainy joins him as well as Ben and Winn.
“Hey.” Sam says gently with a warm smile. “Little stuck?”
Emma barely nods, her muscles are extremely tense and her breathing shallow.
“Okay, well give me Alex and-”
“No!” Alex says firmly.
“Alex.” Kara responds tightly and Emma frowns at her oldest sister.
“We need to help train her.” Alex explains and turns to look Emma right in the eyes. “Why not start now?”
Emma scrunches her face up and shakes her head.
“Hey, hey.” Alex says softly and rubs Emma’s arm. “I trust you. Nothing bad is going to happen. We have plenty of superheroes who are ready to catch us.” Alex says jokingly but Emma stares brokenly back at her. “Can you explain to Emma how to levitate down?” Alex asks Kara and Sam.
“Sure, er, I basically imagine myself floating down. Like when you want to swim down in a pool.” Sam lowers herself before rising back up again.
Emma nods and concentrates. Sam and Kara ready themselves in case Emma suddenly falls. Kara remembers the amount of times she plummeted to the ground when she was honing her powers. But no matter how many times she fell, Emma was always there to encourage her to try again.
“Little one?” Kara speaks gently, causing Emma’s fear filled eyes to snap to hers. “Do you feel stuck?”
Emma nods, the movement jostling her and Alex, making Emma’s eyes widen even more in fear. Her knuckles turn white with how tight her grip is on Alex. It is a wonder how the fabric doesn’t rip.
“Hey, stay calm. You’re alright.” Kara reaches out and places a hand on Emma’s tense shoulder. “Do you remember when we went rock climbing?”
Emma nods, her eyes flickering back to Kara’s.
“And when you went up against the destroyer?” Kara asks and Emma nods. “That was one of the hardest to overcome and you spent ages trying over and over again to do it?”
Emma nods, remembering the moment of triumph she felt when she touched the buzzer but also the extreme exhaustion that overtook her.
“And then when you succeeded you didn’t have the strength to get back down?”
Alex swallows as she listens. Remembering that day well and how proud she was of Emma’s determination.
“And I told you to just let go and let the ropes do the work?” Alex asks encouragingly, seeing where Kara was going with this.
Emma looks down at Alex as tears prick her eyes.
“You were so scared the ropes would snap. But they didn’t.” Kara says. “Our powers are like those ropes. You have to trust them and your own ability.” She says, trying to implore her sister.
Emma’s eyes glance at Kara, Sam and back down to Alex who nods, giving her a small, reassuring smile.
“You can do this. I trust you.”
“You got this Emma!” Robyn’s voice yells up and a few of the Superfriends cheer along with her. Eliza and Lena hold on tightly to each other as they hold their breaths.
Sam and Kara lower themselves slightly underneath the sisters. Holding their arms out to reassure the blonde that they will catch them if they have to.
Emma fixes her gaze on Alex and breathes deeply. Closing her eyes Emma imagines them floating slowly to the ground and tries to trust in it.
“That’s it Peanut!” Alex’s voice makes Emma snap open her eyes and she watches the ground getting closer. The feelings of floating down is indescribable and for a moment Emma wonders what it’s like to really fly. Not just fall with style.
Eventually Alex is able to straighten out and her feet shakily touch the ground. Emma lets go of her and floats a bit away from her.
“Oh Alex!” Eliza grabs onto her daughter and holds her so tight it is a wonder Alex doesn’t snap in half.
“Mom, I'm okay.” Alex hugs her Mom back and watches Emma as she touches down nearby. Relief fills her that they are both okay and she holds her Mom tighter.
Emma gazes mournfully at them, the thrill of hovering leaves her and she looks up at the over two hundred foot cliff edge above them. She can clearly see where it had broken away and her head lowers down to where there are huge boulders of rocks at the bottom. Tears well up in her eyes at the realisation of what would have happened if her powers hadn’t kicked in.
She almost killed Alex.
Overwhelming guilt and grief ploughs into her causing her to stumble backwards, away from the Superfriends.
‘I need to leave, need to run, need to disappear, just going to hurt them, I can’t hurt them-’
J’onn’s head snaps to hers but before Emma can bolt he quickly wraps his arms around her torso, pinning her arms to her side.
‘I’m sorry, I’m sorry, I just can’t- I can’t do this anymore. Why won’t the pain stop? When will it end? Please, I don’t want to be here anymore, I don’t want to live another moment.’
Emma’s destructive thoughts scream out while she thrashes against him, trying to break free from his grip.
“Sweetheart?” Eliza asks in concern and almost gets hit by her daughter’s frailing head.
“Eliza, stay back!” J’onn grunts out and Eliza walks back, placing her hands over her mouth. Kara and Sam spring forward to keep Emma from breaking free.
“Little one, calm down.” Kara tries to plead with her sister. But she can see Emma’s eyes are glazed over.
‘Not enough! Never enough! Unlovable! selfish-’
“Nia!” J’onn yells for the brunette when Emma almost pushes the trio off her. “Sedate her! Now!”
Nia sprints over. “Hold her head!”
Sam and Kara do so and Nia quickly places her hands on Emma’s temples.
Suddenly Emma’s eyes roll back into her head and she goes slack in J’onn’s arms.
Everyone breathes a sigh of relief.
Suddenly a crash of thunder echoes in the distance, making some look up at the darkening sky.
“We better go.” J’onn carefully reaches down and gently lifts Emma into his arms. Kara and Sam help him and gaze sadly down at the unconscious blonde.
J’onn starts walking back towards the house as more thunder rumbles in the distance and the others start to follow in grievous silence.
Lena gazes sorrowfully at Emma when J’onn passes her. She had woken immediately to Alex charging down the stairs and Kara’s yells. Jumping to her feet she rushed from the room to find out what had happened along with everyone else.
Dread had surged through Lena as she followed Kara and Sam while they tracked the sisters’ heartbeats. The moment she heard Alex’s scream she feared the worst but when she charged through the clearing and saw Emma and Alex hovering high in the air. Her mind froze. She watched with bated breath as Emma shook in fear but eventually levitated down.
Intrigued, she turns her head towards the broken boulders scattered around them. She looks up at the gigantic cliff and notes the broken cliff edge. A cliff edge that is pure rock.
Realisation crashes into her, rock doesn’t simply crumble away like that. The implications fill Lena with absolute horror, causing her legs to buckle. Her knees hit the ground heavily and she gulps for air, unable to comprehend a world without Emma in it.
A glint of metal catches her eyes and she reaches for it. She tries to calm her breathing and picks up a necklace with what looks to be a shattered glass heart.
“Symbolic.” She mutters sadly and notices other pieces of jewellery and glass bottles scattered around.
“Lee?” Alex says gently behind her and Lena lowers her head as she stands. “Come on, we need to head back.” Alex reaches for Lena’s hand that is not holding the necklace and squeezes it.
“I did this.” Lena whispers brokenly, causing Alex to step around her.
“We all did.” Alex’s voice breaks and she swallows deeply. “But right now we need to work together to fix it, to help Emma get out of the pit she’s in and believe she is enough.”
Lena shakes her head as tears fall from her eyes. “I should go, leave National City, get out of her life and-”
Alex pulls the raven haired woman into a hug. “That would be the worst thing you could do and you know it.”
“Al? Lee?” Sam calls nearby and the friends pull apart but Alex keeps her hands on Lena’s shoulders.
“You need to tell her.” Alex says reassuringly.
“I don’t deserve to.”
“Let her decide that.” Alex wipes the tears from Lena’s face and takes her hand. Lena quickly composes herself and takes a deep breath.
“Al? Lee?” Sam steps out in the clearing. “A storm is headed this way, we need to leave.”
The pair nod and rush over to the brunette. They quickly walk back to the house in silence, they manage to make it before the rain surges through the trees and the echoes of thunder crash overhead.
They enter the back room and Lena searches for Emma, expecting the blonde to be on one of the sofas.
“She’s in the office with Alistair and Lily.” Kara explains and Lena nods. Her throat feels tight as she tries to hold back the sobs that want to erupt from her lips. “Hey, hey.” Kara coos and pulls her best friend into a hug. Lena can’t hold back anymore and she softly cries into Kara’s shoulder.
“Oh honey.” Eliza murmurs softly and places a comforting hand on Lena’s shoulder. Kara lets Lena go and immediately Lena turns towards Eliza, falling into her motherly embrace. “We’ll get her through this.”
The radio plays softly in the background and a lyric catches everyone’s attention, giving them hope.
"It's always darkest before the dawn."

"Hey sis!" Kara greeted Alex and went to stand next to her.
Alex glanced back at her briefly before looking back into the middle of the room where you and J'onn are sparring.
"Hey Kar."
Kara crossed her arms over her chest and nudged Alex with her shoulder. "I see you love to watch her. Might want to be less subtle or she might start to think you are a creep."
Alex rolled her eyes. "I am not a creep. Nothing wrong with watching people sparring."
"Mhm. Sure, okay."
"I bet J'onn will win." Alex said.
Kara amusedly smiled. "I bet (Y/N) will win."
Alex narrowed her eyes at Kara. "Mhm, if J'onn win you must stop the teasing and then you aren't allowed to eat potstickers for two months."
Kara gave her a offended look. "No fair! Okay if (Y/N) win I get to keep teasing you and you have to buy me potstickers for two months."
Alex thought it over for a moment. "Okay. Deal."
J'onn tried to swing a punch at your head but you blocked with your arms and he took advantage to knock you of your feet with one leg making you fall with a yelp as J'onn tried to hide a tiny smirk as he looked down at you.
"Don't get happy too fast J'onn." You taunted and used your psychokinesis to send him flying back against a wall next to Kara and Alex with a force that made a dent and crack in the wall while you did a quick flip and jump back to your boothed feet.
Alex sparred him a concerned look as he sat up in a daze.
"Oof. I forgot about that power of hers." J'onn shake his head slightly to shake off the daze.
"I'm just gonna stand over here so I don't get hit by flying aliens." Kara joked but went to help J'onn up.
You chuckled to yourself. "You might wanna remember that next time."
J'onn took his place in front of you again and smirked. "I'll be sure to do that."
This time you took the first move and went to use heat vision on him but he side jumped it and used his own heat vision on you that have you staggering back a few feet.
J'onn then used his invisibility to sneak up on you from behind but you easily elbowed him in the face when sensing him nearby, making him become visible again as he clutched at his nose.
"Ouch." J'onn whipped at the tinge of blood from his nose and half busted lip. "I did not expect that. Nice shot."
Alex looked shocked for a moment while Kara only smiled at her cheeckily.
"Rule number one. Don't sneak up on a wolf ever. They'll sense you before you can even do something. Learned that the hard way on Krypton and (Y/N) had to save me then."
"Well I can't wait to hear more stories of you and her on Krypton." Alex said.
"Hey guys! Not sorry to interrupt." A feminine voice halted all talk and movements.
"Lena Boo!" You exclaimed and run over to the female Luthor.
"(Y/N)!" Lena's green eyes lit up, a bright smile tugging at her red painted lips that is complimenting the black suit she is wearing with red heels to match.
You pulled her into a tight hug that she eagerly returns.
"What are you doing here?" You asked after pulling away from the hug.
"Came to check up on my bestie and J'onn called me over. He wants some information on CADMUS." Lena explained, staying close to you and nodding in greeting at Kara, Alex and J'onn.
"Oh okay. I'm glad you are here."
Lena smiled at that. "Glad to be here. And even more glad to see you making new friends." She said while keeping a hand on your exposed arm.
Alex glared at Lena's hand before looking at Kara that elbowed her.
"Jealous?" Kara teased.
"Shut up. I'm not jealous." Alex tried to hide the blush that is sneaking up to her cheecks.
"I don't believe you." Kara continued making Alex glare at her.
"Are you still coming over to my house for dinner and movies tonight?" Lena asked, not paying much attention to the others.
"Sure am. Can't miss out on good food and movies with my bestie."
"Just going over for dinner and movies my ass." Alex grumbels under her breath earning a soft laugh from Kara.
"You are so jealous."
Alex looked back at you and Lena before glaring at Kara once again.
"I said I'm not jealous. They can do whatever they want. And I have no reason to be jealous."
Kara cringe a little at the sharp edge in Alex's voice. "Oh sis. I was just teasing." She said softly.
Alex sighted but gave her sister a tiny smile afterwards. "Let's go show (Y/N) around. J'onn wants to talk with Lena anyways." Alex dragged Kara over to the wolf and Luthor.
"Hey." Alex greeted Lena as Kara waved at her akwardly, saying a soft "Hi."
"Agent Danvers, Supergirl, Hey." Lena greeted them back warmly.
"We'll catch up tonight at my place." Lena said to you after J'onn motioned Lena to follow him.
"Sure thing. See you then." You hugged her bye before turning back to Alex and Kara.
"Can I help you?" You questioned when seeying them just standing akwardly.
"No...actually yes." Kara began. "Do you want to come with me and Alex to Noonan's for lunch?"
You thought it over for a moment before nodding. "Okay, you did promise me some good food when you wanted my help in finding Alex.
"But you have eaten an hour ago Kar." Alex looked at the blonde Kryptonian.
Kara only shrugged. "So what. That was an hour ago. Kryptonian's are always hungry." She reasoned.
"Gotta agree with Kara." You cut in making Alex huff.
"Fine fine, let's go get some food for you hungry Kryptonian's." Alex began walking as you and Kara shot each other a goofy grin before following behind the agent.
When you got outside Alex walked over to her bike with you and Kara following.
"Catch you two at Noonan's." Alex said, getting on her bike.
(😶Man this bike gif of her)
You make and whisteling sound at that. "Oh, I love the view Danvers. Let's try that climbing on-"
Alex sent a glare at you, a tinge of pink dusting her cheeks as she cut you off. "Shut it wolf before I put a muzzle on you."
"Getting kinky now are we Danvers?" You teased, wiggiling an eyebrow at her as Kara stood akwardly next to you, a smile on her face while Alex hid a tiny smirk by putting her helmet on.
"I'm shipping this so much but please don't do the dirty around me." Kara joked shyly.
"Aww, baby Danvers as shy and innocent as ever." You teased the blonde Kryptonian making her blush as she rubbed at her forehead shyly.
"She's not so innocent when under red kryptonite." Alex pipped in before driving off on her bike.
"Hey! I can't help that." Kara blushed a darker shade of red as she watched her sister droved away.
You laughed at Kara's perplexed look, patting her strong built shoulder. "I like that one. She's feisty. And can't wait to hear more stories of you and Alex."
"Let's get going." Kara manage to get out after containing her blush, taking you in a hold and starting to hover in the sky.
"I swear to Rao if you drop me I'll punch you into the sun." You threatened jokingly.
"I won't drop you. Trust me." Kara assured.

Kara landed with you both in an alley, letting go of you gently.
"That was fun." You said, fixing your wind swept hair as Kara rushed into her normal clothing and glasses.
"I just don't get how Lena can't see right through that descuise. It's so obvious. The glasses don't hide much." You commented as you and Kara walked out of the alley, making your way over to Noonan's, spotting Alex's bike parked near.
Kara slightly shook her head. "I don't know. Other people don't reconize me with it on."
"Maybe they do notice it's you but don't say anything." You countered, making Kara hum.
"Mhm. Guess you got a valid point there." Kara said as you cross the street and leading you into the comforting calm of Noonan's, scanning the place for Alex.
"There she is." You pointed out and walk over to the booth where the agent is sitting and slid into the booth with Kara following behind sortly after, sitting down next to you.
Alex greeted the two of you briefly before flipping through her menu.
You looked at the blonde kryptonian next to you. "Kara, that food ya promised me. What do you suggest?" You asked curiously.
Kara smiled warmly at you before Alex interrupt her.
"Let me guess, you are going to say potstickers?" Alex smiled briefly at her sister.
A light pink dusted Kara's cheeks. "Yep. They are just so good." Kara defend as you watch the two with a ghost of a smile.
"I still don't know why you like them so much."
You let out a chuckel at that. "Don't even try to change her fav food. She's still stuborn just like she was back on Krypton when we were little."
Alex gave a ghost of a smile."Trust me, I know how stuborn she can be."
Kara gasp in fake shock.
"I'm not stuborn!" Kara exclaimed and playfully swat at Alex who were smirking at her as you watched the two sisters, glad that Kara have Alex in her life.
Kara quickly placed the order for potstickers when the waiter came to the table you and the Danvers sibling are sitting at.
"Hey (Y/N), remember that time we almost got kidnapped by those blue aliens when we snucked into the meeting my mom and dad had with their leader?" You couldn't help but smile at that.
"I remember that all too well. Both of our parents were absolutely livid when they managed to save us on time. Geez that day I thought for sure your father would chuck us both into the sun by how angry he was." You and Kara began to laugh as Alex raised her eyebrow at the two of you.
"Well you make it sound like you both got and caused a lot of trouble together back on Krypton. Should I be worried for anymore trouble?" Alex said amusedly, taking a sip of her coffee that was ordered by her.
Kara pushed up her glasses and tried to hide a blush. "Naw believe me, that wasn't even a patch against all the other trouble we stirred." You nudged Kara and the blonde gave you a bright smile.
"And the amounts of times aunt Astra joined in on us pulling pranks on my mother and father and other visit aliens. Father wasn't too amused but was secretly glad that aunt Astra kept us safe...well safe most of the times back when she wasn't a complete nutcase." Kara added and you hummed in agreement.
"And remember that time I stole that huge red aliens thingys sword. He was ready to kill us both until your aunt showed up. His paled face was priceless when she threatened him and your father grounded us for weeks." You looked at Kara. "And I still have that sword in my apartment somewhere."
"What? No way?! You gotta show me then. That sword is epic." Kara exlaimed.
Alex raised another eyebrow, a smirk tugging at her lips as she swooped some potstickers once it was set on the table by the waiter, waiting until he left.l before saying.
"Oh now we have a sword stealing Kryptonian too? Now I wonder how your parents putted up with the two of you." Alex joked while Kara smiled again at her.
"Oh maybe I should talk about the punk pace you went through in highschool." Kara smirked before putting a potsticker in her mouth as Alex glared at her, a light pink dusting her cheeks.
"Cool, tell me Kar." You sneaked a glance at Alex, thinking that the tiny blush on her cheeks make her look adorable.
"No! Don't talk about that. That was years ago and embarrassing." Alex tried to stop her sister but alas Kara just went on and told the whole story as Alex tried to hide in embarrassment.
