@princessxaytac Location: Nornwatch Keep
Freydis had heard that Aytaç, Ormir, and the prince had arrived at the keep not long before she and her territory’s populace had. Still, she hadn’t yet run into the princess face-to-face. As the first few days of refuge in that gloomy fortress dragged themselves along minute by minute, she found herself anxious to reconnect with–well, what Aytaç to her? Her friend? Surely she was Freydis’ superior by title, but was she in terms of actionable power? And wasn’t it a little bold of someone of her low birth to presume to hold the privilege of defining a relationship with a princess anyway?
Regardless, she found herself longing for whatever it was the pair of women had shared between one another over the last decade or so whether it be friendship or companionship or just shared feminine rage under the thumb of a patriarchal lens. After three days of contributing what she could, working herself to exhaustion to try to secure even the most basics of provisions, and exploring every channel and nook and chamber in the recesses of the cave system her feet could carry her to, Freydis chose the selfish thing and sought out Aytaç for herself.
When Freydis finally spotted Aytaç amongst a cluster of subjects, each one looking somehow more tired and dejected than the next. Aytaç herself looked different than Freydis was used to, displaced and undone–but still herself, even outside the opulence and unending resources of the palace. The jarl tried to reconcile the strange but misplaced excitement she felt to see the princess in the midst of the current circumstances–was what she feeling relief or did she just feel guilt that she had the capacity for excitement despite the destruction and hopelessnes all around them?
There wasn’t enough time for Freydis to decide when Aytaç excused herself from the company of the refugees. Unsure if the princess had noticed her yet, Freydis stepped forward, her calloused hands clasped together behind her back. “Might I humbly request a council with Her Royal Highness?” Freydis called from a few steps behind Aytaç. While the formality in Freydis’ voice sounded sincere, it was primarily there to irk Aytaç–such formality between the two had not been needed for many years.

@princessxaytac Location: The Silverlands
The road to Caer Glas Keep was one that Riandur was somewhat familiar with. It had long been abandoned, far before the Silver Elvhen had become a stupid enough young man to visit it. The claims of it being haunted, of there being Darkspawn – perhaps all stories that would keep people clear.
Like many Legionnaires before her, the Princess was now one of those that would fight against the Dark One head on. The Blight ran through their veins, and while perhaps she would have made a great leader in any country other than Iskaldrik, that couldn't be her path any longer. "They say rulers would send their second born sons to the Legion. Daughters, if they did not go to the Tower first." Riandur had helped her up after she had taken the Joining, Vicoya not far behind them. "You're one of us now, Aytaç. Of your own free will. I'm impressed."

@princessxaytac location: Nornwatch Keep notes: prior to the Last Night, sometime during the second week when people were getting real sick and shit.
Red eyes peered down the scope at the small science of the tissue he'd collected from the recently slain ghoul. Dead cells holding the blight were still alive in their own way; this wasn't new information, not for the legionnaire. Iskrates was grotesque in his way but the product of his research couldn't be denied; that was the purpose of this order, unbeholden to the laws of a nation, the legion would do that which was necessary to combat the true enemy. The dark did not care for morality.
"This wing is off limits." Alucard remarked as he heard the door creak open, his gaze shifted from the scope to the intruder as he took in the princess that stood in the doorway. He'd been raised under a Queen of night and terror, beauty was always deceiving. "Even to royalty." He added, that though he made no motion to bid her to leave, the dhampir could indulge some curiosity as long as it didn't dampen what they were working towards. "Fortunately the old man isn't here to complain your ear off." Loose skin that hung to the floor with a look of death about him, Iskrates's face alone was enough to make people avoid this place.

@princessxaytac location: Nornwatch Keep notes: boss lady doing the damn thing
From serfs to nobles, the Legion's armory had been picked clean and everyone that could stand to hold a sword, would. Aytaç had seen to it that anyone who could defend what remained of their lives, should the need arise, would. What remained of them was not much, children strong enough to do so were holding shields from chin to knee, and women who'd only ever been wives were reforging themselves as shieldmaidens. Iskarans had a culture of fighting and battle, but many of the refugees were servants, merchants, traders, and farmers. For every warrior that had made it through the pass, there was a half dozen who had only ever used an ax to chop wood, or a hammer to break down metals.
Aytaç's command had been easy to follow, and the witchers followed suit as they led drills alongside the princess. It was what her father would have done, rather than sitting idle and waiting for misfortune to fall, he'd have given them a sword and told them to get ready. Idle hands fed the flames of disquiet, but make the people work - hunt, skin, tan, train, and repeat over again - and they'd be too preoccupied to fear what might come or what the road ahead could cold.
"Princess." Torsten's fist closed over his chest in a short bow denoting intended respect as they stood over a group of youths sharpening sticks into stakes to nail behind the walls if someone tried to jump over them. Ramparts and reinforcements - it was the least any of them could do. "A word?"

With: @princessxaytac Where: The Lostlands, at the edge of the barrier Notes: zombie? sorry. zombie? sorry.
Iskaldrik’s princess died in the mountains. What returned in her stead was the very image of Hel. After two months’ gestation in the broodmother’s womb, she’d sliced her own way out of it, twisted with change, stricken with blight, and short a gamey eye. The rumor mill had ground speculation of her transformation into a powder so fine it spread through the air, Ormir was almost expecting a draugr to stumble back into camp in her place. Oddly, when the Huscarl saw her now, he was reminded of how a serpent glistened, lithe and lethal, after a fresh shed. She almost glowed with the constricting weight of her old life behind her. He only hoped her fealty and memory remained, that some part of her had room to hold Orhan’s legacy away from the rotting touch of time.
A pang of empathy for her addled the equal parts horror and admiration he held in her presence. Aytaç would never rule. The Hand knew that his favoriting her, mentoring her was likely an exercise in futility from the start, but her pact with the Legion had sealed it. What a waste. The loss of her as Iskaldrik’s future was another log tossed on the raging fire he tended. Ormir held himself at a distance to keep from searching her eye for the ghost of the girl he’d raised. She was no longer there. Ormir couldn’t hold the intensity of the Legionnaire’s gaze for long without shivering under it. “It’s an odd thing,” He said, hearing the unsteadiness in his voice. “To be grieving the dead even as they stand in front of you.”

World: Archaeologists in Turkey have Identified Massive Structures Below a Roman-Era Castle
— September 1, 2023 | By Peter Kenyon, Gokce Saracoglu | NPR.Org
Ruins of housing believed to have been used by soldiers stationed at the garrison. Alice Martins for NPR
Diyarbakir Province, Turkey 🇹🇷 — As part of what was once ancient Mesopotamia, Turkey has long been fertile ground for archaeologists. It's home to significant sites that even predate Mesopotamia — UNESCO World Heritage Sites such as Gobekli Tepe, a Neolithic settlement believed to be more than 10,000 years old with what may be the world's oldest place of worship, and Catalhoyuk, a proto-city dating back some 9,000 years.
Now, more recent sites in the country's southeast are yielding finds that archaeologists say may change modern understanding of this part of the world's past, moving the footprint of pre-Roman activity in the area farther east than was previously believed.
Zerzevan Castle, the site of a Roman Empire military garrison, is providing what UNESCO calls "important information about the Roman soldiers, civilians' daily lives and the battles."
And then there's the Mithras Temple. The Mithras religion — also known as the "Mithras cult" — is believed to have originated in ancient Persia, and the temple, discovered in 2017, is possibly the best-preserved such temple in the world, says UNESCO.
Yet to be excavated are huge, multistory structures that archaeologists have identified thanks to ground-penetrating radar scans. These remain below ground and are revealing layer upon layer of artifacts, some dating back well into pre-Roman history.

Archaeologist Aytac Coskun, seen at ruins of an ancient church, says excavations in the area may continue for another three decades. Alice Martins for NPR
Sitting near an ancient church built on a hill high above the temple, Archaeologist Aytac Coskun says the first time he saw the place, he knew he had to excavate.
"I first came to Diyarbakir in 2005," says Coskun, "and when I saw this hill, I saw some pieces of artifacts, and I knew no excavation had been done before. So as soon as I saw it, I knew it had to be a dig because there must be something significant underneath."
Underground Residential Areas May Have Sheltered 10,000 People in Wartime
A tour of the site reveals some what he and his team have excavated in recent years — a sprawling rock altar, an underground church, a water canal stretching for at least several miles.

A Bronze Baptismal Bucket found at the Zerzevan Castle site, currently on display at the Archaeology Museum of Diyarbakir. Alice Martins for NPR
Coskun and his team have unearthed objects including a beautifully preserved and ornately decorated Roman-era bronze baptismal bucket and an Assyrian-era stamp, a kind of official seal carved into rock, that could date back some 3,000 years.
"The digging we're doing inside the castle walls is 57,000 square meters [68,171 square yards]," he says. "It's a huge area. And outside of it...is (something) like 10 million square meters [3.86 square miles]."
Coskun believes some 1,500 people, both military and civilian, lived here during times of peace. In wartime, he says, it's likely that some 10,000 people from the surrounding area came here to seek shelter.

That, he says, may help explain the expansive underground living areas. So far, he says they've excavated six residential complexes inside the castle walls, and there are 99 more still below the surface.
That's just one reason Coskun says this site has the potential to change modern understanding of this part of the world and its archaeological and architectural history.
"It's totally open to new discoveries, that's for sure," he says. "We don't know what else we'll find. We've only dug around 10% of the area on the surface within the castle walls. And beyond the castle walls," he adds, "you see more living areas, the canal, a necropolis where the leading families buried their dead, and ceremonial areas. So, there will be more to come."
Excavations, he says, could continue for another 30 years.

@princessxaytac
The flash of dark hair is telling, despite how many sport tresses so similar - there are few that hold the same shine and regality as Aytac, and unfortunately for him, he knows this head of hair all too well. Undoubtedly, it's unintentional. The fact that she seems to be heading in his direction - there is nothing she could want of him. Those of higher power, the woven pattern must deem it imperative to force him towards discomfort at every crossroad. The space around them clears, as if offering the chance for them to speak without interruption - or perhaps, merely offering the princess a wide berth. Arkyn tips his head towards her, the slight twitch within his upper lip one that does not convey anything other than reproach. "It's an improvement." It's up to her, to decide whether he means the city, or her features. The disfigurement is surely a learning curve for her, though - he doesn't wish to know much of. "however small."

Date: January, some time Location: Çiçek Characters: @xsorceressx & @mercenaryjonah Notes: so anyway boss
Jonah had applied to be a full time employee, if only because it gave him a better cover as a normal person. He didn't really need money urgently - he'd made more bank with one commission than he did a few months working at a shop like this. He had a hefty savings, enough that working part-time at a store would have always been enough to live. He'd been doing really well - showing up, not talking a lot, even covering extra shifts. But, in his heart, he knew this couldn't last forever. This normal life - his life was never meant to be normal. One day the mercenary knew that his encrypted email would pop up a notification with a job that he just couldn't resist and couldn't ignore. All his building altruism couldn't stop him from taking a commission that wasn't the usual ones that he had committed to ignoring: killing cheating or rich spouses, business and political rivals. There was only so much of his nature that the cambion could change. He was better but he would never be perfect. And so the question popped out of Jonah's mouth before he could really stop it. His boss had been stopping by to sign some paperwork and Jonah had been taking his scheduled lunch break just a few feet away from her.
"If I ever want to be part-time, how would that... work?" He didn't want to leave and find another job. Jonah liked it there with all the natural merchandise that he was well acquainted with as a killer-for-hire, even though he didn't know what his boss actually was and she radiated something that made him slightly apprehensive. Probably some powerful being from some sort of myth - there was no shortage of those in Rome, the Caput Mundi.
