Smart strategy. GREAT pun.
Axe has hired Lil Baby to help promote a 'Logne Forgiveness program.
"AXE fans simply need to drop their Cash App $cashtag in the comments on our 'Logne Forgiveness TikTok posts for a chance to win their $150 refund… to help refund the cost of their old cologne."
It's a punny way to give guys permission to wear a fragrance that doesn't cost fifty bucks from a department store. Axe claims their new "Fine Fragrance Collection" scents are "formulated to smell as fresh as a premium cologne."
As Lil Baby says completely on his own and not at all written by the PR agency in a Source piece: “Y’all can smell just as fine with the new AXE and keep building your cash in the meantime. That’s how you do it when you’re the GOAT.”

The weather was sublime. The warm afternoon breeze blew the fragrance of the wildflowers all around you. The serene view was marred only by the sound of complaints and grumbles from the god behind you.
“I can’t believe we’re stuck out here.” He mumbled to himself.
“Oh, come on Loki. It’s not so bad.” You smiled at him. He looked at you, the sun highlighting your silhouette in front of him. The only saving grace from this mission was that he got to do it with you.
“The sooner I can get back to modern civilization, the better.” He croaked.
You two were in an isolated masia in the middle of Catalonia. A safe house that was set aside for agents, and Bruce – whenever he needed his space to calm down. You spotted a few cows grazing along the western slope. And there were chickens in a large coop in the back of the house. You didn’t know if someone came to maintain the livestock, or if they were wild and set free from a time when this was used as an actual farm.
As stocked as the masia was, everything was either expired or inoperable. The faucets had run dry. The electricity was suspicious, to say the least. It seemed almost forgotten and in disarray by the time the two of you arrived.
“I sent the signal. The team should be intercepting it soon and then they can collect us. But until then, let’s see if we can find something to eat. Who knows how long we’ll be here.” Loki rolled his eyes.
“Do you think you can chop wood for the fireplace while I forage?” You asked him. He nodded.
“Will you be ok, by yourself?” he asked anxiously.
“Awe. Are you worried about me?” you teased. “I’ll be fine. I should go make use of the daylight before the sun sets.” You staggered off, giving him a reassuring pat on his shoulder.
You didn’t wander far. Only a minute into the sparse woods surrounding the ranch, looking above for any type of fruit you can gather. You found some edible mushrooms and berries. You were lucky to spot a pear tree with ripe fruit.
Birds sang from the trees and small woodland creatures scurried about the medieval plants. You didn’t want to try your luck at hunting. But you did hear a stream nearby. Maybe you can go fishing - if your stay ends up being longer than expected.
As you came back around the clearing, you heard the deep thud of wood falling. And the low growl of Loki’s voice. You watched as Loki raised his arms to swing an ax down. Bringing a cutting blow to the poor log below him.
You almost dropped the supplies you were carrying at the sight of his bare chest exposed in the sunlight. Each line, defined and strong, rippled as he reached for a new piece of wood and placed it on the chopping block. You would’ve never known the distinction of his muscles, the strength those arms had, under the many layers he usually wears.
His grunts and panting timed with the rhythm of his swing. He had a hard time with one particular log, “Come on. Open for me.” He brought the ax down with formidable grace and split that stubborn log into two. “Atta girl.”
You took a deep breath and hid behind a tree. You bit down on your lip to keep from screaming as you closed your eyes and prayed to any higher power that will listen to you. Gods, save me from these wicked thoughts.  Calm my nerves before I wreck this man and make a fool outta myself.
“What are you doing?” Loki said as if he were answering your prayers.
You screamed at the surprise appearance of Loki next to you. The pears you had in your arms fell to the ground. You noticed that he had put his shirt back on. Your eyes raked him once over.
“Nothing. I was just taking a break.” You lied. Loki bent down and helped you gather the berries and fruits that had fallen.
“You got quite a haul here.” He noted. Walking in step with you back to the house.
“Yup. Yeah, and you managed to get a decent amount of wood for the fireplace, I see.”
“Do you think that pump over there by the side of the house might work?”
“If the well isn’t dried up. Let’s see.” Loki handed you the fruit he had picked up and sauntered over to examine the water pump.
Inside the house, you dropped your foraged goods on the kitchen counter. You found large tin buckets by the entrance and brought them outside to help Loki.
The pump had gone dry. Loki flushed the handle repeatedly getting no luck. You stepped in to help, grabbing the handle. “I don’t understand what I’m doing wrong.” He said as he peered into the spout.
“I wouldn’t put my face…” It was too late. The water had decided then to make its appearance and shot straight across towards Loki’s face, drenching him. A look of shock and a gasp tore through you as you covered your mouth, trying not to laugh.
Loki stood up slowly, his lips thinning in anger. His finger held up, warning you not to make a sound. “Don’t you dare say a word!” Loki snarled. Your amusement peeled away at his resolve as he listened to your melodic laughter.
“I’m sorry. I’m sorry! Please, don’t -” but you couldn’t stop laughing anyway as he flailed his hands in your direction. Small drops of water flicking you wet.
Loki lifted the hem of his soaked shirt up and over his head. The lean muscles you spied on earlier making a full appearance. His lithe shoulders were wet from the water. Loki took that same shirt and wiped his face, his arms, and all along his chest. You watched him, quietly leaning on the pump.
“Enjoying the view?” he said realizing he had an audience. He threw his shirt at your face.
A heady mix of his scent and cologne flooded your senses. You hoped that his shirt hid the dark blush covering your face. “And so what if I am?”
Loki only shook his head, hiding the smile that formed. “Move over, you dangerous creature, and let me pump. Hold the buckets,” he instructed.
“I’m sorry for laughing.” You said. Loki only rolled his eyes. His embarrassment already gone after seeing your suggestive stare.
He kept his shirt off as he brought the full buckets inside the house.
Tumblr media
Later that night, the both of you had sat down, knee to knee, in front of a roaring fireplace. Eating all the things the two of you had gathered.
Loki had ventured out with you after your water fiasco, a basket in hand, to the chicken coop and tried to pilfer some eggs. He had no such luck as the hens kept trying to peck his hand away. You were lucky to grab some with gentle coaxing and a hypnotizing trick your grandmother taught you.
“Do you think you’ll have better luck with the cows?” you asked slightly teasing.
“Can you even wrangle one?” he asked doubtfully. You took that as a challenge and set forth to corral the nearest cow you could find.
Calming her, soothing her, you whispered to Loki, “Keep her occupied and calm while I collect her milk.”
“How do you propose I do that?” he asked aloud, wide-eyed.
“Shh. Just stroke her head. Talk to her.” You made your way behind her slowly. Patting her along the way till you were able to bend down with a bucket and start milking.
“Hello…ma’am,” Loki said with gawkiness, patting her on her head. You started to giggle. His awkwardness was endearing.
You laughed about it that night over dinner. You had cooked the mushrooms and made sunny-side eggs with butter churned from the milk you extracted. Loki’s seidr helped tremendously and saved you both from aching elbows and arms. You were always in awe whenever he used his magic.
And for dessert, berries with pears.
“This is delicious, darling.” He commented. “I’m so glad to have been stuck with someone as skillful and clever.” You flushed at his comment. “Tony could never.”
That’s when you started laughing. “No, he couldn’t.”
“Where did you learn such skill?” he asked.
“I grew up on a vineyard with my grandparents. My grandfather was a vintner and sold locally. He taught me a little bit about plants and foraging. But my grandmother loved animals. She kept a few chickens and goats. A cow name Lulubelle.” You sighed at the memory. “I miss them terribly.”
Loki stared at you. He felt awed that you would share such a precious memory with him. “What about you? Where’d you learn to chop wood?” you asked, remembering the scene from earlier today, heat crawling up your spine.
“Is that so surprising? For a prince to know his way around an ax?”
“Honestly. Yes. I didn’t picture you using anything other than your seidr.” He laughed at your candidness.
“It was part of training, to be with the Einherjar. You needed to be able to survive and build a make-shift shelter. Living off the land. You’d never know what kind of situation or planet you’d find yourself in.”
You nodded in understanding.
“It was one of the ways a fellow soldier could help the regiment overall. At times, Thor would always show off and split the wood with his bare hands.” Loki shook his head as he rolled his eyes. You laughed at the thought of Thor trying to impress his fellow troops.
Loki looked up at the sound of your laughter. He loved the musical tone it had. He loved the fact that he could make you sound like that. His errant thoughts ran away from him and he started to wonder what other sounds he could persuade you to make.
As if you could read his thoughts, his teasing eyes, and his inviting smile, you slowed your laughter to a quiet giggle. Turning away to hide your face, Loki grabbed your chin to stop you.
He leaned in close, brushing his lips on yours. His breath was sweet from the berries he just consumed. He paused for only a second, waiting for you to turn or to stop him. When you didn’t, he pressed further. Enveloping your lips fully in his. As you drew in his top lip, you ran your tongue along the length of it, hearing him whimper.
He pulled you closer to him, sitting on his lap. He placed your thighs on either side of his strong hips. Your hands delighted in the taut muscles under his shirt. Finally being able to touch what you glimpsed earlier.
Static from the radio reached both your ears. Steve’s warm voice echoed through the receiver. You pulled away to reach for it, but Loki held you firmly in place and pulled your chin back towards his lips.
He devoured you.
Loki ignored the transmit as if he knew he didn’t have much time left.
“Signal received. I hope you both are ok. The extraction team will be there in a couple of hours.”
“Well, darling. We don’t have much time left together. What would you like to do?” Loki said panting on your lips.
You kissed him back with as much fervor and proceeded to lift his shirt.

Request: Got Milk?
@marabellechilds0805
“Is too late to request a fanfic ive just come back of my holiday. If not could you write me a fanfic of Shinsuke being poorly or injured and the reader is looking after him? If you can do that you are the best 😊😊😊😊”
Note: I really like writing humorous cute stories about Shinsuke, especially when I’m not feeling my best right now and I thought the concept “Got Milk?” would be funny so I used it. I hope you guys like it!
“SHINSUKE!,” I called as I struggle to walk in the door with a bunch of shopping bags.
As I turned to shut the screen door, I heard something fall to the floor and break. I look to see it was the vase that my mom had bought me as a gift, which was not cheap. She’s gonna kill me. I’m pretty sure I’ve dropped a few bags on the porch but I refuse to take a second trip to the car, I refuse! I look up to see Shinsuke limp his way out of the living room to see what all the commotion was about. His eyes grew wide once he saw the amount of bags was carrying.
“Um, baby? Why do you have all those bags?,” Shinsuke said confused.
“I told you was going to the store!”
“Yeah, you said you were going to the store for some milk. I see everything else but the milk,” Shinsuke said slowly.
My eyes widened then I slapped my hand on my forehead, dropping the bags I was holding.
“You forgot the milk, didn’t you?,” Shinsuke chuckled.
I have no idea how I managed to buy all this stuff yet the one thing I originally went to the store for, I somehow forgotten it. I don’t even remember what I needed the milk for.
“Baby, it’s ok. I’ll help you-,” Shinsuke started to say, limping towards me.
I held up my hand,” AH AH AH! You better stop right there, mister! I got it,” I said, making him stop in his tracks.
“Let me help-“
“NO! Go sit down, you’re supposed to be resting your leg!”
“Baby,” Shinsuke started.
I stared at him to let him know that I was serious but like always, he ignores me.
“Shinsuke, stop!”
“What all did you buy?,” he asked grabbing the bags from hands, turning to limp back to living room.
“Why don’t you ever listen to me?”
“Because.” I waited for him to finish but he just left it at that. I sighed.
I grabbed the rest of the bags and took them to the living room. Shinsuke was already going through all the bags.
“Did you even go to the grocery store? I don’t see any groceries?,” Shinsuke said, teasingly.
“Yes Shinsuke, I went to the grocery store,” I said mockingly, lifting up two small grocery bags.
“And still forgot the milk?,” Shinsuke said laughing.
“Will you please shut up? I’m trying here! And can you please sit down?! You’re supposed to be resting your leg,” I said loudly, only making Shinsuke laugh even more.
“It’s just a sprained knee. It won’t hurt to walk around for a little. I’ve been doing nothing but sitting since I’ve been home, I need to move around,” Shinsuke said still looking in the bags.
I won’t forget that night, it scared the living daylights out of me. Shinsuke was going against Bobby Roode for the NXT Championship when Shinsuke did one of his knee signature moves off the top rope and fell to the floor awkwardly, holding his left knee to his chest. It made me nervous but then he got back in the ring and kept going. He then did his finishing move Kinshasa, with the injured knee, which made him scream. It scared me because I knew then as it sunk in, it was real. Shinsuke was injured. I couldn’t do anything but watch in horror as he screamed in pain. I cringed, not knowing what to do. Officials kept trying to make Shinsuke forfeit but Shinsuke got back in the ring.
I just shook my head. Damn Shinsuke and his stubbornness. He tried to stand back up but he fell back down. I see Roode started taking advantage of Shinsuke’s injury. My heart was beating out of my chest but I was so in shock by what I was witnessing, I was silent.
Roode put Shinsuke in a Half Camel Clutch, putting more pressure on his knee. Officials screamed for Roode to stop but the match isn’t over yet, there’s only so much they could do. The only way for it to stop is if Shinsuke gave up, he’s not gonna give up that easily unfortunately. My hands landed on top of my head in disbelief, grabbing my hair, I wanted to scream, I wanted it to stop, and I couldn’t do anything. Shinsuke stayed in the hold, screaming in agony but still refused to tap. ‘Baby, please! Baby, just let it go! It’s not worth it!,’ I said to myself wishing more than anything for this torture to stop.
Roode had enough waiting for Shinsuke to tap and hit Shin with his finishing move. Shinsuke lost the belt but I was more concerned about injury. I never ran so fast in my life! I met Shinsuke in the back as he was being helped by officials. His injury, luckily, was just sprain but he will be out of wrestling for a whole month. Shinsuke, obviously, was not pleased about the news.
I’ve been trying to be the best partner I could be by making sure his recovery was as comfortable, relaxing, and fun as it possibly can. And I admit, I’ve been going overboard lately but I just want him to feel better.
“Wait what?,” I said confused, making me slip out of my memories from a week ago.
“I asked how much you spend on this stuff?,” Shinsuke said finally sitting back down on the couch.
“Don’t worry about it. But I bought some more pain medication. I got some hats for your collection. I got another travel briefcase, just in case you break the one you have,” I said with a knowing look, it’s gonna happen. His briefcase has been through hell and back in the past decade he’s had it, it’s bound to breakdown eventually.
Shinsuke glared at me,” I don’t need another briefcase. The one I have is fine, how many times do I need to tell you this?”
“And how long do you plan on being in denial? Anyways, I bought some video games from GameStop. I got Bandicoot and I told you I’m gonna get you to play Outlast. I even got some Mario games, I know you like those!”
Shinsuke rolled his eyes but I ignored him.
“I got some more massage oils for more back massages. I got some more Axe body wash but I also got some bath bombs, I found a cherry blossom fragranced one, I think you’ll like that. I got some more Icy Hot to massage your knee with. By the way, I asked your mom to send me some homemade recipes. I went and got some ingredients for that.”
“Wait, you talked to my mom?,” Shinsuke asked stunned.
“Well yeah, I called her this morning on the way to the store, I thought it would be good idea to cook some of your favorite homemade foods. My cooking won’t be exactly like your mom’s but I think I can try it. I’ve never cooked Japanese food before. You can help me. Also, you’re mom said to call her when you get a chance. OH, I almost forgot!,” I said jumping up. Quickly grabbing the car keys and going to outside. So much for not making two trips to the car. I opened the trunk and grabbed the box I’d forgotten, I ran back inside and dropped it between me and Shin on the couch.
“Baby, what the hell?,” Shinsuke said examining the box.
“It’s a muscle reliever! You put the sticky dots on whatever tensed part of your body and it relieves your muscles. Do want to try it on your knee or maybe your back? We could use this as I give you a massage later. Oh yeah, I got some Jasmine and Lavender scented candles! I figured you’d like those! Oh yeah, another thing-,” I started but Shinsuke interrupted me.
“Baby! Just stop for a second, ok?,” Shinsuke said, looking at me crazy.
“What? What’s wrong?,” I said, confused by the look the on his face.
He just looked at me with a smirk slowly growing on his face.
“What, Shinsuke?,” I asked getting slightly impatient. I don’t understand why he’s looking at that way.
He put the muscle reliever on floor next to him then grabbed my waist, pulling me close to him,” I’m starting think you like to spoil me,” he said smiling.
I smiled back at him. He gave me a short yet passionate kiss, making me feel all fuzzy on the inside.
“How much did you spend on this stuff?,” he asked again.
“Don’t worry, it doesn’t matter because I will do anything to make sure you have a quick relaxing enjoyable recovery! Even if I have to spend over two thousand dollars,” I said the last part quietly, looking away from.
“Wait, say that again?,” Shinsuke asked.
“The point is that, you need to get better and I’m gonna help you!,” I said quickly, pretending I didn’t hear his question.
“You spent two thousand dollars? Today, alone or in the past week?,” Shinsuke said lowly, in disbelief.
I bit my lip,” Today but it was for a good cause! And I really tried my hardest to stay on a budget, I really did, but I got carried away when I got to Target. That place is evil, I’m telling you! It’s just rude to have these nice stuff sitting around waiting to be bought when you just needed some damn milk and pain meds!,” I said falling back on the couch with a huff of defeat.
“Let me get this straight, you left to get some milk. You went to the grocery store and bought the ingredients my mom gave you on the way and forgot the milk. So after doing extra stops you had no business doing, you stopped by Target for the milk but walked past the grocery section no telling how many times picking up other stuff and still managed to forget the milk. Wow.”
I glared at him,” Whatever, I’ll get some milk tomorrow so you leave me alone.” I got up to go in the kitchen to start dinner.
“You amaze me,” Shinsuke laughed.
“Whatever, Shinsuke!,” I said from kitchen.
“Hey, got milk?,” Shinsuke said from the living room and laughed even harder.
“I can’t stand you, Shinsuke!,” I said, chuckling myself.
“I still love you!”
“I love you too!”

Afiovion | Chapter One: Voices in the Dark
Early morning set over the land of Afiovion. The two suns, Targarius and Una, cast soft shadows through the forest, grasslands, and buildings surrounding the Capitol. The air, already warming, filled steadily with the smells and sounds of vendors opening their carts and shops. The smell of simmering meats, spices, and incense swirled through the alleys. Clothes, weapons, and armor of all shapes and sizes lined windows and covered mannequins which stood like an inanimate army. Traders and travelers prepared to sell their wares as nomads and locals alike began wandering the cobblestone streets.
The warm and fragrant air extended for miles around the Capitol, yet even such pungent fragrances could not penetrate the ground and deep caverns beneath the Capitol. Beyond the gates of The Underneath laid a maze of tunnels, dank and cold. Soldiers and workers carved many of the tunnels for space and to access valuable deposits beneath the Capitol. Other tunnels were carved by gigantic beasts who inhabited the land and delved deep under ground to hide from the creatures above. The tunnels’ original creators were of no consequence and of little relevance as the slow, dripping water pattered against the stone floors.
The sound of dripping water echoed against the stone floors gathering in small puddles in the cracks and crevasses. These subtle sounds, over time, slowly woke the figures cast in darkness. Each of the eight figures, as they woke, came to the realization they were trapped, locked in iron-bar cages.
“Hello?” called a feminine voice from the darkness. There were sounds of shuffling from other cells. “Hello? Anyone else there?” The voice shook slightly as though it were spoken through clenching teeth, but was projected well within the cavernous cell block.
“Who’s there?” called another voice, masculine but higher pitched than the female voice.
“I’m Bo. Who are you?” replied the first feminine voice.
“I am Areal, mender of kingdoms and seer of the future,” proclaimed the male voice, sounding pompous and self-important. Now a new voice emerged from the darkness.
A low, feminine voice with a Russian accent muttered, “If you are a seer of the future, then how did you get captured?” The question was more for herself than for the others and, before Areal could respond, other voices called out to one another.
“Is everyone alright?” called a sweet, high-pitched masculine voice. “I’m Milo by the way. Is everyone okay?”
“Gar is good,” responded a deep, growling voice from one of the other cells.
“What the heck happened? And how did we get down here?” another flustered feminine voice asked. Clattering metal bars tugged against the locks.
“First, who are you. Next, what’s the last thing you remember?” asked Milo. There were more clangs as hands tugged at the bars.
“Well, I remember we were in the woods by the river and then we smelled this disgusting odor before passing out. And I’m Zatryme,” replied Zatryme.
“I wasn’t too far from here, a little further south actually, but I don’t remember getting ambushed. I’m Aster,” said Aster from the darkness.
“Great!” said Milo. “I had a similar experience. I was on my way to my hometown from the northern roads when I was ambushed in the woods just off of the trail.”
“Same as Zatryme,” called the Russian accented female. “Oh, I’m Panora.”
“What really matters is how we’re going to get out of here,” spoke up yet another female voice.
“True, true. Who is this?” asked Milo.
“Lily, but I can’t see how that matters. Does anyone have a lock-pick or thin wire?” asked Lily. There were sounds of shuffling feet as each person carefully explored their confined chambers. All of them still possessed their equipment and gear, much to their surprise and, within minutes, several torches from their packs were set ablaze. There were a dozen cells within the chamber and a single, dark-oak door at the entrance. Each person could now see the other.
Lily wore dark clothing consisting of cloth and thin leathers, blending well with the darkness. Her white hair and pale skin were haunting and gaunt in the shadows. Her light pupils reflected little torch light. Gar, in the cell beside her, was a half-orc. Many of his features reflected his human side such as his eyes and the shape of his skull. His body, on the other hand, was barely containable by the cell where he was placed. His tusks were finely sharpened, skin thick and grey like the stone surrounding them. He wore little armor, but his looming presence served him well.
Panora, a halfling, had dark blonde hair pulled into a tight bun with a few wisps of hair hanging by her pointed ears. Her eyes were dark and her features sharp. For a halfling, she was unusually tall, but still was a head shorter than the next shortest member, Lily. She too wore simple, dark leathers, but she smelled of herbs. Bo appeared elvan, though her ears and features were not as refined as a true-blooded elf. She was broad and muscular and carried a heavy sword and armor which was un-crested.
Aster appeared human, her dark hair and dark eyes flickering in the torchlight. She wore cloth, monk-like robes of muted reds, blues, and yellows. Areal, an elf, wore simple cloth robes which were a royal blue. Tassels hung around his neck and he clutched several books under his arms as he leaned against the bars. His skin was light and comparatively youthful to elves centuries older than him. Zatryme, also an elf, also appeared youthful. Her skin was a deep emerald green and her eyes were a pale yellow. Antlers rested gently on the top of her head, but there was too little light to determine if they were grown or placed there. Her long, green hair cascaded over her shoulders down along her cloth and leather armor.
“Great,” chirped Milo looking around at the seven others. Milo appeared to be a unique mixture resulting in a short, humanoid fox. His ears were sharp and perked and his nose, which did not extend as far as a fox’s nose, quickly breathed the air gleaning all the information he could. A small pair of spectacles rested on his nose, slightly gold and gleaming brightly in the torchlight. He held two swords at his side and wore simple leathers. “Now, how are we going to get out of here?” Lily was already picking the lock to her cell. With a few loud, grinding clicks, she managed to free herself. She paused for a moment in silent debate of whether or not to free the others, but the debate ended as she approached Gar’s cell and began picking the lock. With a little help from Gar lifting the bars into a better position, Lily picked the lock. She moved to the next cage where Panora was when the group heard shuffling feet outside of the wooden door.
A foul stench began creeping beneath the dark-oak door. With lightening speed, Lily darted and leaned against the base beside the door on one side while Gar, to everyone’s astonishment, seemed to blend against the stone opposite of Lily. Everyone held their breath as a tall, lanky creature with claws and a lantern entered. Its shoulders were broad, its facial features reminiscent of a bullfrog. Its armored skin, a sickly pale grey, oozed with a thin, glossy mucus. Bony protrusions emerged from its elbows, spine, and whipping tail. It swung the lantern near the cages, taking no notice of the two figures by the door. Its voice, burbling and guttural, made a few odd croaks as it snarled at the cages.
Lily, in that moment, could now see a ring of keys along the creature’s belt. Her eyes darted from the keys to the still captured individuals in the cages. The glint in Lily’s eye caught Milo’s attention and, without hesitation, Milo rushed the bars and began shouting at the creature.
“Hey! Come over here ugly! Yeah, that’s right! Come at me!” Milo’s shouts gained the creature’s attention. It snarled and approached the bars, reaching through and jabbing Milo in the nose; yet Milo was not deterred. Lily inched forward, careful not to enter the creature’s peripheral vision, and reached for the keys. Even with Milo’s distraction, the creature was still able to feel the tug against its belt as Lily fumbled pulling the keys from it. Before the creature could let out a shriek, Gar let out a tremendous roar and leapt forward. The creature did not stand a chance as Gar’s axe slashed into its flesh. Lily also leapt into action, pulling a small dagger from her boot and jabbing it into the creature’s thigh. Within seconds, the creature fell lifeless onto the ground. Unsure if there were others, Lily cut the ring of keys free and tossed them to Panora. Lily began picking the remaining locks while Panora used the keys and Gar stood guard.
“Are you alright?” asked Aster as she approached Milo who was mopping up his bloody nose with a handkerchief.
“Yes, quite alright. As a Mouseketeer, I fear none and pursue the best right thing to do; though it didn’t have to hit quite so hard,” replied Milo. He placed his spectacles back onto his face and surveyed the rest of the group. “Well, I may not remember the way in, but do any of you?”
“No,” replied Panora as she pulled a pipe from a small side pouch. She uncurled her fingers in the air as though she were releasing a butterfly and a small burst of green laced around her fingertips. A small, thin, four-pronged leaf sprouted in her hand. She pinched and rolled the leaf into a ball, placed it in her pipe and, using her fingers, lit the pipe with a small flame. A light, misty smoke puffed from the end of the pipe and from the corners of Panora’s lips.
“Gar does not remember,” said Gar as he leaned just outside of the door and glanced about the halls. “But we need to go.” The group collectively nodded and grabbed their belongings before peering into the hallway.
Their torches barely illuminated the cavernous hallway which extended in two directions. The tunneled hallway itself was just over two meters tall and barely two meters wide. From the size of the creature Gar and Lily had slain, it was clear the creature did not carve the tunnels and instead was using them. The group spread out the best they could with their torches. After quickly darting down both sides of the hallway, the group discovered five passageways leading to more tunnels. No one ventured into these hallways and instead came back together.
“Find the way out?” asked Aster.
“No, just more tunnels,” replied Lily.
“What the heck! How are we supposed to get out of here then? I think we need to split up,” piped up Zatryme. The group exchanged unsure glances.
“Seems like the only way to cover the most ground. My only concern is if we run into trouble,” said Lily, pulling her hood further over her head.
“We don’t have much of a choice. If we hit any dead ends, we come back here,” said Bo firmly. “If we find the way out, we send someone back for the others.” Still uncertain but finding no alternative among the strangers, the party split into two groups. The first group ventured to the left while the second group set off to the right. Each of them followed the tunnels’ paths through its twists and turns. The tunnels themselves were narrower than the hallway. The tunnels were just under two meters tall and just over a meter wide. Gar was forced to crouch as his group navigated the tunnels. They tested for traps along the way by throwing small stones ahead of them and around corners, listening intently for the sounds of snarls and growls. They were unsure of how long they traversed the tunnels but, some time later, their tunnels converged and they were reunited.
“Well, this is fortunate,” said Milo with a smile. His whiskers fluttered with excitement as he spotted the others from the darkness. The group turned now to the door in front of them. It was made of a thick, light wood and was reinforced with metal beams. There was some kind of lantern or torch light emanating from the gaps lining the door. They tried the knob first. Locked. It took only one strong kick from Gar for the lock to be rendered useless. As the group burst through the door, unbeknownst to them, they emerged into another small chamber with iron bars extending from the ceiling to the ground. The chamber was four meters tall and five meters wide, they maybe had seven meters between them and the bars. Also, to their astonishment, there were five armed guards on the other side of the bars. Each of the guards wore studded leather breastplates and dark leather bracers. The moment they burst through, the guards turned their surprised attention on the eight figures emerging from the darkness. The sound of swords and daggers being yanked from their sheathes.
“Who are you? And how did you get down here? Speak up!” demanded one of the guards, his eyes fixed and observant. Before Milo could speak up, Bo stepped forward, eyes crazed and wild, and she shouted in a great, thunderous voice.
“We’ve got to get out of here! There’s a volcano and it’s going to explode! The lava is coming up the tunnels now!” Something in her eyes and something about the panic in her voice sent a jolt of energy through the guards. “Don’t you feel the trembling?” Four of the guards, youthful in face, looked nervously at one another before bolting out of the door believing there was indeed volcanic tremors beneath their feet. The other shouted at them in sheer frustration and charged after them. The group stared, stunned at the audacious lie Bo had just told, but also remained silently impressed by her power of persuasion.
“Well, that certainly solves the problem of getting rid of the guards,” said Aster. “But how are we going to get out?” She walked up to the bars and tugged. Unlike the bars of their individual cells in the maze of tunnels left behind them, there were no additional horizontal bars keeping them from squeezing through them. In fact, the bars were much wider and the group realized they would need to shimmy through the bars to get out of their predicament. At the very least, a few of them could fit through and acquire keys to free the rest of their party. All together, Panora, Aster, Lily, Milo, and, much to everyone’s surprise, Gar were able to push through the bars. There was a set of keys under a nearby shelf and soon they opened the gate.
The company had barely managed to get out when they heard the rapid approach of several dozen soldiers. Before they knew it, they were surrounded and blocked in with another set of guards, different than the ones who had scurried away in fear of the mythical volcano. An elvan man wearing breastplate armor and brandishing a rapier stepped forward. His eyes, sharp and focused, were a pale blue-grey like storm clouds over the sea. The company deduced quickly he must be the one in charge.
“I am Haru Yokudekimashita, Captain of the Guard of The Underneath,” he stated firmly. He pointed the tip of his rapier at the group. “Identify yourself and your business.” Bo, foolheartedly, stepped forward, eyes crazed and wild, and shouted to the Captain’s men.
“You have to run! There’s a volcano about to erupt! We need to get out of here!” Bo’s words echoed against the walls of the tunnels, reverberating and giving her voice the added dimension of power. Unfortunately for her, the deceit of a volcano preparing to erupt did not disrupt the Captain’s men nor even make Haru, Captain of the Guard, flinch. He steeled his gaze as his eyes darted between the figures and took note of their wares.
“Do not be absurd,” said Haru authoritatively. “There is no volcano in this part of the region and, at any rate, there are many other precursor events before a volcano erupts. I will not ask you again. Who are you and what is your business?” The soldiers grasped their shields and swords firmly, preparing for any event the mysterious company might throw at them. This time, Milo stepped forward. He adjusted his glasses before clearing his throat and looking to the Captain.
“Captain Yokudekimashita, my name is Milo, Mouseketeer of Anderlily. Pleased to make your acquaintance,” said Milo with a courteous bow. “I apologize for the initial startle, but you have found our company at an inopportune time. You see, we are not quite sure how we came to be in this place. I dare say we are not an official company and are linked only by the bond of spontaneity.” Haru’s eyes narrowed, but he allowed Milo rise and continue.
“You see, we woke up not too long ago in cages within the maze of caves behind us. We have not met previously and, based on our accounts, we were abducted from somewhere nearby and taken there. There were these tall, toad-like creatures which smelled utterly foul which we believe were the culprits. We just managed to find our way out when stumbled upon your men,” said Milo. Haru eyed the group suspiciously, but lowered his rapier to a less offensive position.
“Then why lie about this preposterous volcano?” he asked, directing his attention at Bo, who shied away bashfully.
“I was just trying to keep the guards distracted and not so focused on us,” Bo said. Haru looked pensive for several long moments before he gestured for his men to stand-down.
“Very well. Come with me,” said Haru. “Some of the information you possess may prove useful.”
