Why is Ezekiel called that?  Surely a bird that just gained sentience wouldn't randomly come up with biblical names for himself and his flock?

And why does he end up so much more powerful than any of the other nighthawks? 

I mean, he might just be a particularly smart bird. But this is Hatchetfield, after all, so consider...

There's an old Hatchetfield legend, now forgotten by most, that Willabella Muckwab took on an apprentice before she was killed.

The young man was born with the gift, and known around town as a strange, unnerving character. He was fascinated by power and the mysteries of the Black Book. After Willabella's execution, the Hatchetmen sentenced her protegé to be planted. He would become one of the first tree-people who would form the web that imprisoned Willabella.

But the young man knew the Hatchetmen would come for him, so he summoned the Lords in Black and begged them for help. To his surprise, the Lords obliged. He had been a loyal servant, they said, and deserved better than to spend eternity rooted in the soil. They would save him from the Hatchetmen and their axes, if he swore to serve them faithfully for the rest of his life and beyond.

So he swore loyalty, and waited for them to save him. But the Hatchetmen still came and dragged him out to the land that would become the Witchwood. They buried him up to his neck in the soil, while the jeering townsfolk watched. The young man screamed and fought, convinced that the Lords had abandoned him. He cursed their names, and cursed everyone in the crowd for killing his mentor. 

Then, as the Hatchetmen prepared the final part of the ritual, the screaming became the shrieking of a bird. Where the man's head had once been, a Nighthawk rose into the air, frantically flapping its wings. The townsfolk cried witchcraft, but there was nothing to be done. The witch's apprentice had escaped his fate.

But the Lords in Black were angry that their servant had cursed their names. They had meant to transform him back into a human once he was free of the mob, but his insolence changed their minds. Now he would be a bird forever, slowly losing his memories and every shred of humanity.

That is, until a woman known as Perky foolishly begins to farm on Witchwood land, and the magical strength of her crop is enough to awaken the minds of the Nighthawks who eat it.

After centuries, Ezekiel has no memory of the human he once was. But even as a bird, he craves the same thing he has always wanted - power.

you’re absolutely right for liking love songs and mako, those are favorites of mine as well :)

right now, i’m going absolutely feral over sunscreen (but i CANNOT find any guitar tabs for it T^T) and where tf did i park my car (that one’s great if you’re looking for a 5 minute song with mostly guitar solos and just a nice rock feel), and i also love victim from the album they did with audiotree (that one also SCREAMS murder drones to me but it’s just cause i’m insane)!

there’s also existential crisis pt. 1 which is surprisingly jazzy and ends abruptly with some nice alto and tenor sax, and i’m liking silhouette a lot too.

OH AND UTAH (I JUST THINK IT’S REALLY PRETTY (I’M A ROMANTIC))
