“Hey,” I croak pathetically, my voice stuck in my throat in this most inopportune of moments. We're both silent a moment before I add, “By the way, I may not have said anything earlier but… you look amazing.”

She huffs out a chuckle. “Please, in this thing?” She plucks at her swimsuit. “I mean, if Anita’s is your frame for comparison, then yeah, I get it, but overall? It's pretty plain.”

My gaze flits up her tall body and to my utter embarrassment, she catches it before I can snap my head around. “I like it. Your swimsuit, I mean. It, uh… really brings out the legs of your… legs.”

Note: Chapter 5 of Such Happy Campers is currently sitting at around 23.000 words, and I'd say it's almost (ALMOST) halfway done. Production is running slower this month due to IRL circumstances. But there's finally gonna be some hands-on RO scenes so I'm sure y'all are gonna enjoy that.

Mr. Lane

Mr. Lane is the edgy older brother of my childhood friend.  He is also the closest I would get to a human version of Trent Lane, from my favorite MTV cartoon, Daria. 

Super cool and mischievous, he would sit in the garage during his sister's parties and smoke cigarettes the entire time, while listening to the dope bass pounding out of his SUV trunk stereo speakers, and tonguing his sexy labret piercing.  My senior year of high school, I found myself chain-smoking to Nas beats just to get in some alone time with him. 

After a lengthy discourse on my false consciousness and the esoteric morality of Nietzsche, Mr. Lane asked me where I would apply for college.  I listed off fourteen schools, all plane rides away, to which I had completed applications.  Since age five, all I wanted to do was get far from Fairfield and close to Hollywood. 

He squinted at me, with my manic-panic hair and black leather choker, sighed, and said, “Why are you so dramatic?  You should just come to [redacted] in New York City, where I go.  You can train home anytime you want.  It’s awesome.” 

I applied early decision, the next day.  I never even sent my apps to the other schools.  And then went there.  He was that hot.

My father always jokes that he is relieved that Mr. Lane went to such a great school.  So am I, because at seventeen, I would have followed him into a crack den. 

Years later, I told him he reminded me of Trent.  He yelled and chastised me for comparing him to a cartoon character.  Then one day he watched an episode of Daria and said (smiling), "Wait, I DO look like that guy!  Thanks!"

The door opens just a crack. Anita peers in, eyes wide like a deer in headlights.

"Hey..."

"Hey," she replies very softly. Her throat works.

"What is it?" I ask.

"I was wondering if, uh..." She takes in a deep breath. "I mean, I didn't wanna do it in front of everybody, but I thought... I thought I'd ask if you actually wanted that lap dance."

"Oh my God, really?!" I pause, grimacing and speaking up again at a sane, measured cadence. "Yes, I think so."

"I... yeah, I think I do," I say, my voice low. "Only if... if you feel like it, of course."

I break into a wide smile. "I'd like that. Surprised you're up to it, but I'd like that very much."

I live and breathe for awkward MC, like I don't even focus on the ROs in the romance interactions anymore, I'm just focusing on MC and being like "How is awkward MC gonna mess it up this time?" Like, I genuinely love that little idiot, I just want to watch them stumble through life, and I wholeheartedly think they deserve all the love even though they combust everytime they are near the ROs

(Btw, I love the ROs too (Basil and Reem are my favourites)! I just enjoy awkward MC quite a lot, tho I think that's obvious by now jdkdkkd)

You could either choose to turn into a shy mess (which is what i did with Flo) because come on I'm creating my own personal hell with how oblivious he is. He probably won't even notice 🙈 but it's gonna be so cute.

And a flirty MC with basil because nooo I refuse to shy away from that smug hot.. I mean smug ass. Yes. That. That would just be blood in the water to a shark. I refuse 🙄

The other Stat tho. The one that says you never get your hopes up because it never works out.. im paraphrasing here lol what exactly does tht one mean. Does it close the romance or just makes MC a very sad person?

Hehe ok there might be a lil misunderstanding here. The options are shy, comically awkward and flirty. You described flirty pretty well but I believe you might have gotten things mixed up with the other two.

The awkwardcrush!MC will act flustered around the RO, blurt out embarrassing things, struggle to get their nerves under control and all in all be a cringefail embarrassment, as another ask once aptly put it. (And yes, Flo will be oblivious to this. The others will not, except maybe Anita at first. For what it's worth though, Flo will also be oblivious to the other types of crushes.)

The shycrush!MC will act bashful and soft around the RO, not really speaking up about their feelings/attraction. Not because they're sad or things have gone sideways in the past, but because they're just, well, shy. But they're not a fumbling idiot like the awkwardcrush!MC.

The flirty!MC is neither shy nor awkward, and that explains them pretty well. Always good to meet Basil halfway with this one, like you said. Otherwise, you're blood in the water for him. Anita will turn shy at this, Reem will like it... Flo will be, you guessed it, oblivious.

Since we seem to be doing some RO praise I'd just like to say Reem is so great. The confidence, the banter (the abs...) honestly I was smitten since the first scene. And the chivalrous, protective stuff when romanced? Very much looking forward to that.

Also Flo's chill as hell so y'know good brother-in-law acquired too.

Yay finally some Reem appreciation!! Yeah she knows she's hot. She does. But she still loves to have it acknowledged. Also she's really the most caring one of the ROs I think. Like, she's relentlessly caring, whether or not you romance her. Also, she thinks awkwardcrush!MCs are cute, though flirty and shy work just as well with her. I'm really glad you're looking forward to more from her bc I love writing her. Btw, her route in Chapter 1 was also the first one I wrote. It came pleasantly easy to me (Toilet crawling!!)
