Awegust Week 2: Inspiration
so, I should have done this awhile back but I guess I’mma binge post, anyway.
tbh, I read more fanfic than actual books and many of the writing styles from the writers inspire me. they’re not writeblr related, however, they mean a lot to me bc they make my Sambucky fandom experiences bearable. <3
the following are: @siancore, @glittercake, @pianistwriter80, and @honestlyfrance, bc they write characters with love and respect towards them, which is important to me. especially regarding Sam Wilson, bc he’s often mistreated and underused. ✨
as for writeblr: ok, tbh, i semi-joined last year and binged all the works of the ppl I followed. they write with such passion and dedication towards their works, and their willingness to share their stuff encouraged me to be active on writeblr more. like thanks for making this place bearable.
the following are: @klywrites, (ok, fam you are one of the first few ppl I followed in here, and yes, I believe in the time you’ll actually accomplish what u wanna do.) , @ardawyn, @fuyugomori, and @kosmosian-quills! there’s a lot but these ppl who were like teh first few I followed in my foray into writeblr. ✨
yeh, that’s it! these writers are the best in their class and I appreciate their presence in the community bc of who they are. and i like getting to see glimpses of their personality outside of the writer too. 💙💙💙

AWEGUST WEEK TWO: Inspiration!
Who inspired you to pursue writing or art the way you have? How? Have they given certain advice, or is there something about their style? Create a post tagging them, and explain what aspects you’ve learned from them the most!
BONUS: Any specific pieces that inspired you? Link to them and show us!
Example under the cut!
I used to worry that when I spent time writing out long winded descriptions, it was always going to be too drawn out, boring. @ardawyn has absolutely mastered her use of imagery, tone and word choice in her own descriptions, and the times I’ve been absolutely bedazzled by her work so easily shows that skill can really transform a piece of description to a portal into a fictional world!
One of my favourites of her writing excerpts that clearly shows this, check out this emotional excerpt~

Inspiration

I have always created things ever since I can remember. I started reading before I was even in school, so that was probably part of the inspiration to start writing. I promptly became obsessed with creating my own universe, which resulted in me turning into a chronic maladaptive daydreamer.
I get a lot of current inspiration from my moodboards, music, reading other's works (published or otherwise), videogames, and my daydreaming.
Any and all fanfiction writers always inspire. I have been reading fanfiction ever since I got my hands on the internet, and they have always made me want to write my own stuff. I am constantly astounded by the work they put out. I have been meaning to sit down and read @little-lightning-lavellan's Dueteragony, because I am liking what I am seeing. (¬‿¬)
I am also inspired by the way @kg-willie writes. Her flow is immaculate and I aspire to gain control of my words like she has. @mel-writes-with-her-dragons has created so many good wips, I can't even keep track, and I love the way she names characters. It inspires me to create more. And last, but not least, @writing-is-a-martial-art posts amazing writing advice that really helps me keep going.

i’m not gonna lie like 85% of my current writing is MASSIVELY inspired by joan tierney’s ( @/filmnoirsbian ) writing. it’s gorgeous. it’s so good. everything she writes is just. wow. wow! her style and subject matter never fail to SLAP. just reading pieces by her makes me want to write, and her style is something that--while not exactly something i want to emulate (bc everyone’s style is unique and i don’t think it suits me to write it) but it’s ... very close. maggie stiefvater, tamsyn muir, terry pratchett (thud! and reaper man), patricia a mckillip (specifically her riddlemaster trilogy), and sam sykes are also Up There though, mostly in terms of style and inspiration!
favored filmnoirsbian writing:
why are you haunted: a survey
conversation w/ a snared fox at the edge of a field
interview w/ the machine woman
conversation between the ghost + the chariot (made me cry which is actually VERY hard)
trauma + the things we convince ourselves to survive
how to build a table
how to draw a circle

So, most of my inspiration comes from video games, with a dash of Shounen/Shoujo anime and superhero comics. I was always very embarrassed in school to be the only person who wasn’t rattling off books and famous authors as their faves ^^; Probably the most important piece of media involved with my actual style and the way I prefer to write would be my favorite game, Final Fantasy 6. Pretty much every fictional thing I plan to write has large casts where everyone gets a voice, where there’s multiple points of view, and where each personal narrative intertwines eventually. I’m very character oriented in my writing and reading because of this game. Also, the subject matter is pretty on brand for me. Rebellion against a corrupt government, found family, non-human creatures, said non-human creatures having more humanity at times than the humans. Also, most importantly, an interesting and dynamic female lead!!!!!!!!!!!! Terra is actually one of the bigger influences on one of the main characters in Cynical Chaos, Damali.
Here’s one of my favorite scenes from Final Fantasy 6 if you’d like to check it out!
