The King Of Expressions- Kunal Karan Kapoor's journey on TV in a nutshell!

Be it the stammering and introvert, Varun from ‘Remix’, the cool dude cadet Yudi from ‘ Left right left’ or the confident and smart Mohan Bhatnagar from 'Na bole tum na maine kuch kaha’, actor Kunal Karan Kapoor has proved his versatility time and again by playing diverse roles throughout his career.

Hereby, we celebrate the journey of this talented actor who is currently missed on-screen, as he was last seen in 'Doli Armano Ki’

A Mumbaikar since his birth, Kunal has also been brought-up in the city of dreams. The actor is known for taking unconventional decisions pertaining his life and career. He made his debut in a small role as the nerdy, introvert and stammering young boy, Varun in the hit teen show, 'Remix’ back in 2004. His scenes with actor, Karan Wahi playing Ravnveer were pivotal parts. Though he wasn’t one of the leads, his portrayal of the character got him noticed and won him a lot of appreciation.

Soon after Remix, he starred in the popular youth based military drama show, 'Left Right Left.’ He literally went through a 360 degree transformation from his character of Varun to a cool and carefree dude, Yadhuvansh Sahni aka Yudi. His role was instrumental in the show becoming a grand success and a cult in the following years.

Kunal is known to be a travel freak and synonymously loves photography. He confesses to be amongst those who don’t plan each and everything in life and prefers to take things in the way they are presented.

After a stint in 'Maayka’, Kunal played a negative role for the first time in his career in the show, 'Mann Kee Awaz Pratigya’ which was widely appreciated and won him a lot of appreciation.

Known to take unconventional decisions, not many know, Kunal took a one year sabbatical after Maayka deliberately to explore life and adapt a better perspective on things. In this break, he lived his life on his own terms and traveled a lot along with working with his friend Nikhil Chinnappa in video editing.

A man with simple beliefs and a simple life, Kunal has confessed a secret not everyone knew, that he believes his lucky number is 11.

His breakthrough as a lead actor came with the show, 'Na Bole Tum Na Maine Kuch Kaha’ which made him an overnight sensation in the telly world. His portrayal of Mohan Bhatnagar developing a relationship with a widowed mother of two and their journey was loved by millions. The show was such a huge success that after the end of its first season, it became one of the first shows on Indian television to adopt the season-telecast system and came back with a Season 2 due to its popularity, which was equally successful. It also earned him his first ever Indian Telly Award for Best Actor in a Lead Role in Popular category in 2013 cementing his mark in the big league.

His last stint on television remains to be his role of Shaurya on the show, 'Doli Armano Ki’ which was a treat for his fans as it was his first screen appearance since Na Bole Tum Na Maine Kuch Kaha ended.

The actor is popularly known as the 'King Of Expressions’ where he steals always the show with his expressive portrayal of emotions, and we do not disagree!

It's rare to see sequels of fiction shows on India television, you just got lucky.

* Kunal Karan Kapoor: Talking about sequels, when I came on board I was very vocal of the fact that I would not like to be part of a show that just goes on and on. My wish became a reality, as Na Bole Tum... is one of those rare fiction shows in India that is following the 'season' concept, which is quite popular abroad.

Back in October last year, did you expect the show to go off air and comeback within such a short period?

* KKK: Frankly, the show was not high on TRPs. In the business world, if your show is not doing good with TV ratings then it is obvious that the channel takes the show off air. Interestingly, after this move we realised an important fact about our show - that the show was watched online all over the world. It had good viewership, and that is why the audiences reacted to the decision of the show going off air.

What were you upto during the three month break? Did you think of taking up any other projects?

* KKK: During my break I just went for a long trip. I visited several places in India and abroad. I did not get much time to go through all the offers. And when I came back, I got busy with the preparation of season 2 of Na Bole Tum...

The show has taken a 12-year leap, didn't you have any qualms to essay an older role?

* KKK: I started off as a geeky stammering nerd Varun in Remix, followed up with a jovial army cadet Yaduvansh Sahni (Yudi) in Left Right Left and later played a paan-chewing baddie Angad in Mann Kee Awaaz Pratigya. In my career as a television actor, I feel blessed to have played such diverse roles. Essaying an older role is nothing to feel bad about, instead I am looking at it as an opportunity to flaunt about in my resume.

The story line of season one — of a single mother falling in love with a young crime reporter sounded interesting. What will attract the audience this time?

* KKK: Times have changed. I am not a journalist any more. People will see me as a more matured person running an NGO. That apart, the kids Nanhi and Addu will be seen as grown-ups. Interestingly, Addu will be seen missing. These will be major changes for the show's regular audiences. I am hoping they tune in this time too.

Buzz is you have shot the promos of the show?

* KKK: (Laughs) I didn't shoot the promos. I am an avid traveler. I love visiting places and capturing them on my camera. The footages of my travel were seen by the producers of the show, who loved them so much that they thought of editing it at using it as promos of the show.

Apart from Na Bole Tum... is there any other show you see yourself doing in the near future? May be a travel show, since you, Kunal, like to travel a lot?

* KKK: Hosting is not my cup of tea. One needs to be well groomed, which I am absolutely not.

The story has moved on — Megha and Mohan, who got married by the end of the first season, have now separated and the former feels animosity towards the hero. "But the driving point is that Nanhi — Megha's daughter from her first marriage who played a crucial role in bringing them together — also dislikes him," explains Kunal Karan Kapoor, who plays Mohan.

Kunal Karan Kapoor, Mohan of Na Bole Tum, adds,"It is amazing to know that we will be shooting for a second season. It is all because of our fans who have showered us with their love and support that we are coming back with a new story. I am looking forward to working on the look and characterization of Mohan in the new set up."

We also spoke to Kunal Karan Kapoor more popularly known as Mohan and he shared his experience with us. "Akanksha and me will do a live coverage of the wedding as Mohan and Megha from Prabhat Leher. The whole shoot was really fun and it was fun to interact with a different unit and different people and I am very happy to have met Surekhaji, I think she's brilliant in what she does." Talking about reuniting with his Megha after a long time he commented, " Ya, its been a while we had met. After Na Bole Tum ended I was out travelling so this shoot brought in a lot of catching up."

Mohan to come face to face with Addu!

Talking about the scene, Kunal Karan Kapoor (Mohan) says, “I had never imagined that Mohan and Addu’s first meeting would shape up this way. It is a very emotional scene and is definitely a high point in the show.”

Kunal goes behind the camera for Na Bole Tum-2!

Na Bole Tum Na Maine Kuchh Kaha is coming back with its second season on 14th January. The eagerly awaited promos of the show have also arrived and have had quite an impact on those who were waiting with bated breath for Season 2. These promos promise a new story, which starts 12 years after you saw your favourite on-screen couple last, but with the same flavour that made you love them.

The latest promo to hit the airwaves reveals Mohan (played by Kunal Karan Kapoor) as he walks through a mountainous road, lost in Megha's thoughts. Well, the promo looks beautiful, and the scenic beauty is almost as exciting as Mohan's comeback.

If you look carefully, you'll notice that the backdrop of this promo is the beautiful mountainous region of Ladakh. But want to know a little secret? The portions that have been shot in Ladakh are shot by Kunal Karan Kapoor himself! Yes, the beautiful shots that you see haven't been shot by a crew, but by the actor himself. Kunal was in Ladakh in November 2012 for a trip, and that's when he decided to shoot something for the second season of the show. And the result is that his efforts were used in his very first promo for Season 2!

Talking about the idea, Kunal said, "I shot these scenes just like that. For the most part, I set up the camera myself, but I also had help in the form of my tourist guide, who I instructed how to handle the camera whenever needed."

Not just that, Kunal has also shot quite a few scenes in Bangkok, Prague and all the other places he visited during his 3 month sabbatical and he hopes to make a video out of it as soon as he can.

Well, Kunal's directorial ambitions are no secret, so it looks like he has taken the first step in that direction with this promo shoot. And if the video is anything to go by, then we're certainly looking forward to his directorial venture!

Nupur Alankar joined Na Bole Tum-2 for Kunal!

Kunal Karan Kapoor aka Mohan aka Vasu of Na Bole Tum-2 has no dearth of fans as he has a steadily increasing number of admirers. But there is one fan that must definitely be close to his heart as she is none other than Nupur Alankar, who plays Ruku’s mother in Na Bole Tum-2.

What is more surprising is that not only Nupur admires Kunal and his acting skills, she also lists him as one of the reasons that she agreed to be a part of the show. We have heard of actors take on shows for meaty roles, or the popularity of the show, but this is certainly a novel reason!

Nupur says, “I took on this role because I wanted to work with this production house but one more reason is that I have always admired Kunal as an actor and have been watching him for a very long time. I wanted to convey this admiration to him personally so I took up this chance of working with him.”

Not just Nupur, but even her family is included in the list of fans of Kunal and his show. Nupur adds, “My mother loves the show and has been watching it for a long time.”

So has Nupur managed to convey this heartfelt compliment to the actor? Nupur replies in the affirmative, saying that she complimented Kunal for his acting when they were shooting together.

We’re sure Kunal must be flattered to hear such praise coming from a veteran actress. In times of reports of actors not getting along on sets, such a mutual admiration society being formed on the Na Bole Tum-2 is indeed a happy exception!

All is Well with Kunal Karan Kapoor!

Fans of the show Na Bole Tum Na Maine Kuch Kaha have been dealt with a double blow recently. Not only is their favourite show going off air on 5th October, but there was also news of the lead actor of the show, Kunal Karan Kapoor being hospitalized.

But we have some good news for all you worried people. Kunal Karan Kapoor is out of the hospital and well on the way to recovery.The Na Bole Tum...actor had a very difficult time shooting for the last few episodes of the show. He was unwell during the shoot of the last Ganpati sequence that was being shot on 27th September but he still continued shooting as the last few episodes needed to be wrapped up. When his condition worsened, he was admitted to the hospital where he was diagnosed with dengue. He had tweeted on 30th September, "Tweeting from a hospital bed..." and "Viral fever...was glad at least this wld mean rest but the damned needle jus doesn't let one sleep..."

After a round of treatment, he was discharged from the hospital on the 4th of October. And we can tell you that Mohan, aka, Kunal is much better now, though he is still sick and weak from dengue fever.

When we contacted Kunal, he said, "I'm feeling better though I'm still weak. I didn't like being at the hospital so I'm back home." But true to his self, he won't let a little thing like illness get in the way of his life. The actor and self-confessed travel enthusiast has already made plans to travel abroad as soon as he gets back on his feet. We're not surprised, are you?

His plans are proof enough that though Kunal Karan Kapoor gave his fans a scare with the news of him being sick, is now better and raring to enjoy his well deserved break. We wish him a speedy recovery!

My faves I love Goa. My perfect day in Goa would be sitting by my favourite beach or waking up as late as possible, having breakfast, swimming, having a delicious lunch, tea/coffee by the beach, followed by a swim or canoeing. I love Palolem.

I have been there so many times that locals there know me now. They greet me saying, ‘Oh you are back!’ I have been to Manali, Shimla, Nainital, Dehradun and now Kathmandu. I love the tranquility of the mountains. Going back, I recollect living in a `100 a day kind of hotel in Manali.

Kathmandu calling I loved the recent shoot of my show at Kathmandu. It’s a pretty hill town with clean air. Manokamana Temple and the Swayambhu Temple were worth visiting. Manokamana Temple has a steep cable ride and considering that I love heights, I enjoyed myself.

The whole of Kathmandu can be seen from the Swayambhu Temple. I wish I could visit Pokhara, Annapurna and Mustang. The Patan Darbar Square is also beautiful.

How it began. As a kid, he used to loiter around Mahesh Bhatt’s Vishesh Films office. “I was in class seven then and one day Bhattsaab told me, show me how angry you can get. He then told me to get in touch with Shrishti Arya for a film called Angaarey which she and her brother Goldie Behl were producing and Bhatt saab was directing. I was supposed to play the younger role of Akshay Kumar. But because of my height, I couldn’t do it. Years later when Shrishti was casting for Remix, I got in touch with her again. That’s how I began acting.” After this Goa trip, Kunal has plans to go for an all-India tour on his newly-bought Royal Enfield bike. “In Mumbai, there are too many restrictions and no time, with the bike at least on the highway you can break free.”

“Main andar a sakta hoon? Kapde to nahin badal rahi ho?” Sanjana? Hello? Kia so gayi kia?” Aur jab koyi awaaz nahin aayi to Vicky ne darwaza khola aur ussko ek pal ka waqt nahin mila ke achaanak teen chaar aadmiyon ne ussko zor se pakar kar andar khincha aur bahot hi jaldi ekaat ghunsse usske sar par maarte huwe ussko ek kursi se iss tarah se bandha aur phir uss kursi ko kamre ki khirki ke bar se bandh diya….

Vicky hakbaka gaya tha aur usski awaaz bhi nahin nikal raha tha uss waqt. Ekdum achanak yakayak sab kuch huwa ke usske samajh mein kuch nahin aya ke kia ho raha hai, ussko sab kuch ek sapna jeisa laga. Tab ghaur karne ke bad ussne dekha ke unn mein se ek ne sanjana ko apne bahon mein liye usska munh dabaaye huwe baitha hai bed par aur unn mein se ek Sanjana ke baalon se khel raha tha usski gale par apna jeeb pherte huwe aur Vicky ko shaitaani nazron se dekhte huwe….

Phir khel shuru huwa unn pancho ka. Sab ke haath mein ek chaku tha aur sab ne kaha ke agar ek bhi awaaz nikala kissi ne to woh chaku ko Sanjana ya usske bhai ke gale ke aar paar hoga….. sab ne milkar Sanjana ka rape kiya Vicky ke enkhon ke saamne…. Vicky uss kursi se nikalne ki aur apni behen ko churaane ke liye machalta raha, tarapta raha magar kuch nahin kar paaya… unn logon ne ek ek karke Sanjana ke kapde utare, aur ahiste ahiste Sanjana ke jism ko nanga kiya…. Vicky ko apni enkhon ko bandh karna pada jab Sanjana nangi huwi to…. Vicky ek jal bin machli ki tarah phadphada raha tha tarap raha usske enkhon se ensoo jharr jharr beh rahe the….. Sanjana chilla rahi thi, aur unn logon ne music system ko chalu kar diya high volume se taake Sanjana ki awaaz baahar na jaaye aur ghar ke sabhi darwazon aur khirkiyon ko achchi tarah se lock kar diya……
