So, this week my mom got married. For the first time, I have a real father instead of an idea of a ghost looming over my head with an unknown past. They live in Gulf Shores, AL, while I live in upstate NY about two hours south of Montreal. Major difference, right? The Alabama Heat has always been something that I took for granted. When I got on the plane, it was a whopping 49°, and the trees have already transformed into their naked colors. On the way to see my mother, it was 70° and people were wearing scarves. As I lay on this empty beach, I will always cherish this moment as I lay in sand as my pale skin endures the sun. A new beginning. A new sense of self. A new perception of this world. I usually never where makeup, and right now I am highlighting the accents of my face. Albeit, the lack of color is a depiction of how I feel: invisible and weightless. But I'm still here.
