Introduction ☆
Hello Tumblr! My name is Morten, I am a 21 year old guy from Denmark. As a twitter refugee, I have no clue what I'm going to post on Tumblr for now, but stick around if you like (人 •͈ᴗ•͈)
I guess I should talk about what kind of guy I am... Well put into simple terms, I'm a guy who adores the wonders of graphic design, which is also my eventual goal of a job. Currently I'm taking my higher exam, so I can attend university next summer. Other than that I'm your average movie n' music enjoyer, but I will talk about that a bit later. I'm also a gamer (insert cool sunglasses emoji here), where some of my favorite games include; Cult of the Lamb, Stanley Parable, Overwatch 2, Portal, Prose & Codes and wordle... If you're interested in more of my gaming addiction, feel free to add me on steam!
Tumblr media
Now onto MOVIES (☆▽☆)
I love watching movies (& tv-series, but I'll get back to that in a sec!), so much so I actually have a letterboxd you should check out...*wink*... If you're genuinely curious about what my favourite movies are, check out this list!
Now with tv-series, I struggle using Serialized, I tried but it doesn't seem like a great fit for me. Therefore, let me list some of my favorite tv-shows instead.
Never Have I Ever (Netflix)
Aggretsuko (Netflix / Sanrio)
Watchmen (HBO)
The Simpsons (Disney+ / FOX)
Strappare lungo i bordi (Netflix)
Abott Elementary (Disney+ / Starz)
Hacks (HBO)
Tumblr media
Playing next: Music! (*ノ・ω・)ノ♫
Gosh, how do I say this without sounding cringe... Music is my life (oh gosh Morten just stop) but jokes aside, I really love music. Sadly / luckily, I'm one of those users who use Apple Music, so befriend me there if you'd like! I also have Spotify, where I sometimes transfer my playlists too. Now, I'm a really huge k-pop fan, like it's so bad my wallet is burning... So let's go through some of my favorite kpop groups! *btw, if you wanna check out my last.fm, feel free to do so now!*
GFRIEND / VIVIZ (Ult GG)
EXO (Ult BG)
Red Velvet
NewJeans
AESPA
Davichi
Anyway! I think that was all I had to say. Stick around if you like, become mutuals with me if you like and PLEASE give me some tips on how to use Tumblr
Xoxo

@soulflysurveys
1 Which would you rather learn more about: Christianity or Rastafari? >> I thought Lane had disappeared because he is just not showing up in the #surveys tag for me anymore. Had to go to his actual blog like a god damn barbarian. Fucking really starting to hate this website. Anyway, I know far more about Christianity than I do about Rastafari at this point in time, so I guess the latter for the sake of variety.
2 When was the last time you cried listening to a song? What song was it & what made you cry? >> Uh.... hmm. I went through my Last.fm scrobble (who invented that fucking word) log to try and jog my memory, and the last possible candidate is on the fifteenth of June, because I have Fundamentally Loathsome by Marilyn Manson scrobbled on that day. And that song is pretty reliable about putting me in my feels, so it’s possible I might have shed a tear then. But I don’t remember.
3 If you have a YouTube account, what do you use it for? >> I just use it for keeping track of my subs and playlists and viewing history. I don’t post on it.
4 How often do you watch interviews with musicians/celebrities? >> Rarely. For example, I’ve watched interviews with Darren Aronofsky because I’m interested in his process (watched a bunch of them after I saw mother! lmao).
5 How often do you read biographies/search up more information about musicians celebrities? >> Not as often as I did in my early twenties. Read a lot of musician bios then.
6 Do you enjoy visiting book stores? What section are you typically drawn to? >> I don’t visit bookstores much anymore (for the obvious pandemic reasons, of course, but also even before that). I read ebooks the most, after all. Also, bookstores are just kind of overwhelming. Too much to look at, too many things to pull at my attention.
7 Is there something about Xanga users that used to frustrate you that no longer does? >> I don’t even remember by now. I haven’t experienced much frustration with tumblr survey takers. tumblr users on a whole, though... well, that’s a whole nother kettle of dicks and I’m not getting into that here.
8 Here’s a typical question, which do you feel is worse: using marijuana or using alcohol? Why? >> I hate this question. Especially because for me it’s very subjective -- sure, alcohol has a caustic and long-term effect on the body, even with moderate usage. It sucks, as a moderate drinker who was a former frequent drinker myself. And marijuana’s dangers are both contextual (depending on method of consumption) and person-dependent; you’re definitely not going to get cirrhosis of the liver or whatever from popping edibles. But personally, if I were to consume more than a couple mg of THC right now, I’d probably go fucking todash. Which is a situation that is dangerous for me, mentally (and possibly physically, like when I threw myself down that flight of stairs that time -- I was fine, fortunately, but like...). Meanwhile, I can drink this beer and not go through that at all. So, you might want to be more specific when you ask me a question like this.
9 Have you ever had any bad experiences while under the influence? >> Yeah, I’d imagine that’s pretty clear from my above answer.
10 The last time you went out to eat, who were you with & where did you go? Did you enjoy yourself/the meal? >> Whew. I’m guessing that was... February? We went to Long Road for the cocktails-and-chocolates event, although that wasn’t exactly going out to eat, per se. I don’t remember the last restaurant we went to for actual food.
11 How would you feel if you had to deal with the police? Would you feel nervous, upset, angry? >> I would feel anxious and restless as fuck, at best. Regardless of the context of the situation, even. I’m a neurodivergent Black American with glaringly clear post-traumatic issues, what else would you expect from me.
12 Have you ever had to deal with the principals at school? For what? >> Well, yeah. Stuff.
13 Have you ever done anything pretty daring/against the law with a police officer around? >> I don’t think so. I mean, in NYC cops are all over the place, so maybe accidentally.
14 Is singing something that you enjoy doing? Do you feel you are a horrible, alright or very good singer? >> It is something I enjoy doing, yes. I am a passable singer, I sing well enough for my own purposes and that’s all that matters.
15 What is something you’ve never done in front of/around your best friend? >> ---
16 Are you looking forward to Halloween?  >> I haven’t thought about it.
17 What is the best spirit day your school has? If you’re graduated, what kinds of spirit days did your school have? >> ---
18 Is there anything other Xanga users still might not know about you? Would you like to share it? >> I don’t know, man. How am I supposed to keep track of that? Also, what people know about me depends less on what I’m sharing and more on what they’re reading and how they’re interpreting it. I can take a million revelatory surveys but if no one reads them, then they still don’t know any more about me than the average person...
19 What was the last song that you listened to on repeat? >> Probably You Ain’t Coming Back by Zeal & Ardor. I listen to songs on repeat so infrequently that that’s probably going to be my answer for a while.
20 Who would you rather meet: Marilyn Manson or Skrillex? If you don’t know who either of them are, would you be interested in making dubstep or any kind of music along those lines? >> I don’t want to meet either one of them. I love Manson’s music, though. Not so interested in Skrillex’s.
21 Do you like to make playlists? What kinds of playlists do you usually make? >> I don’t make playlists (save for the “car” playlist, which is my liked songs with all the metal and hard rock and other stuff that Sparrow wouldn’t like removed. so, like, 250 songs, compared to ~1400 total liked songs...... lol). I just shuffle my liked songs on Spotify.
22 Is there anything that you’re terrified of due to past negative experiences? What is it? >> Of course. I’m not going to list all my triggers here, lmao.
23 When was the last time you had a dream related to something that had happened that day? Can you explain it? >> I don’t remember.
24 How often do you have hot flashes? Are you able to deal with it or does it frustrate you? >> I don’t really have hot flashes, per se. I get hot without environmental triggers sometimes, but that’s usually like... psychosomatic or something. Like, I get really hot and jazzed up when I perceive I’m about to be or currently am in conflict or some other kind of social danger.

1 year of my last.fm!
A year ago, on 20th of May 2019, I learned of last.fm from some peeps at a Carly Rae Jepsen Discord I joined because she had released her new album a few days ago and I wanted to discuss it with other fans. I’m a bit of a stats nerd, so it was really exciting seeing, like, analytics of the music I was listening to during the past year, and, now that I’ve hit the first important milestone, I’m doing this post so I can compile my observations!
Content:
General Stats
Month Recaps
Some observations
General Stats:
Total scrobbles (listens) :  33302 (Assuming an average 3 minute song length, this is 1665 hours, which is 69 days of music (nice). However, if we give 8 hours for sleep every day, that’s 104 days of music and sleep, which conveniently matches the duration of a summer vacation. Nice. This is 91 songs a day, AKA around 4.5 hours of music a day.)
Top 15 artists:
Carly Rae Jepsen - 6469 scrobbles (One fifth of all songs listened, around 323.45 total hours, which means around 53 minutes a day)
Ke$ha -  2150 scrobbles (around 107.5 total hours, which means around 17 minutes a day)
Marina & The Diamonds (I am gonna be referring to her as that because we don’t claim L+F) -  1741 scrobbles (around 87 total hours, which means around 14.5 minutes a day)
Taylor Swift - 1620 scrobbles (around 81 total hours, which means around 13.35 minutes a day)
P!nk - 1218 scrobbles (around 61 total hours, which means around 10 minutes a day)
Lorde - 968 scrobbles (around 48.5 total hours, which means around 8 minutes a day)
Tessa Violet - 697 scrobbles (around 35 total hours, which means around 6 minutes a day)
Tove Lo - 692 scrobbles (around 34.5 total hours, which means around 6 minutes 5.8 day)
Britney Spears - 684 scrobbles (around 34.2 total hours, which means around 5.6 minutes a day)
Halsey - 646 scrobbles (around 32 total hours, which means around 5.3 minutes a day)
Charli XCX - 588 scrobbles (around 29.5 total hours, which means around 4.8 minutes a day)
Kim Petras - 577 scrobbles (around 29 total hours, which means around 4.7 minutes a day)
Dua Lipa - 529 scrobbles (around 26.5 total hours, which means around 4.3 minutes a day)
Meghan Trainor - 492 scrobbles (around 24.6 total hours, which means around 4 minutes a day)
Ariana Grande - 485 scrobbles (around 24.25 total hours, which means around 4 minutes a day)
Top 15 albums:
Emotion by Carly Rae Jepsen (1887 scrobbles, AKA around 94 hours)  - Probably my favorite album ever.
Dedicated by Carly Rae Jepsen (1740 scrobbles, AKA around 87 hours) - A chill album that I really like!
Emotion: Side B by Carly Rae Jepsen (923 scrobbles, AKA around 46 hours) - A collection of B-Sides that is better than other people’s main material and its parent album
High Road by Kesha (792 scrobbles, AKA almost 40 hours) - THE PARTY ALBUM OF THE YEAR
Melodrama by Lorde (642 scrobbles, AKA around 32 hours) - Masterpiece
Kiss by Carly Rae Jepsen (642 scrobbles, AKA around 32 hours) - To be fair, all my streams from Kiss have been streams of its good songs, which are, like, 60% of the album
Electra Heart by Marina & The Diamonds (585 scrobbles, AKA around 29 hours) - An amazing concept album
reputation by Taylor Swift (476 scrobbles, AKA almost 24 hours) - I love the energy of this album
Bad Ideas by Tessa Violet (473 scrobbles, AKA 23.5 hours) - Amazing.
FROOT by Marina & The Diamonds (454 scrobbles, AKA around 22.5 hours) - This album really grew on me. It’s almost as good as EH.
The Truth About Love by P!nk (408 scrobbles, AKA around 20.5 hours) - My favorite P!nk album, filled with bops.
Manic by Halsey (407 scrobbles, AKA around 20.5 hours) - It has high highs and very low lows.
Animal by Kesha (396 scrobbles, AKA almost 20 hours) - Incredible
Future Nostalgia by Dua Lipa (373 scrobbles, AKA around 18.5 hours) - Very consistent and very good.
Sunshine Kitty by Tove Lo (358 scrobbles, AKA almost 18 hours) - Filled with bops.
Top 15 tracks:
Happy Not Knowing by Carly Rae Jepsen - Carly’s songs are usually growers for me - I don’t like them immediately, but when they grow on me, I love them passionately for a very long time. Happy Not Knowing was an exception. It was the song that I fell in love with on my first listen of Dedicated. It’s my second favorite on the album, after Too Much, but it turns out that it managed to beat it, even if Too Much has an MV. Good for it. Also, my aro ass can very much relate to the sentiment (even if Carly’s doing this to not hurt herself, I can very much Frankenstein this into an aromantic song, thank you very much) - (294 scrobbles)
Too Much by Carly Rae Jepsen - This song might as well have been called “Carly Rae Jepsen violently comes for Tumblr user @ravenclawer‘s ass”. I adore it, the MV is amazing, and it’s one of my favorite songs ever. - (277 scrobbles)
Your Type by Carly Rae Jepsen - I have called this song a song that can turn an aroace into a girl desperate for love for a period of 4 minutes and I stand by my word. My favorite CRJ song ever. - (251 scrobbles)
Want You In My Room by Carly Rae Jepsen - This song is so fun. - (217 scrobbles)
Let’s Get Lost by Carly Rae Jepsen - Let’s Get Lost is pure joy. I honestly think it’s a perfect pop song, and I could go as far as call it a quintessential Carly song. Like, one of the biggest advantages Carly has over many other artists in my eyes is the fact that her singing is so full of emotion - of joy, sorrow, pity. And this song showcases that well. My face literally lights up every time I hear it. - (206 scrobbles)
I’ll Be Your Girl by Carly Rae Jepsen - One of my faves on Dedicated. I love the pettiness behind it. To be frank, I was sleeping on this song until I saw fanart about it, and that fanart made the song click in my head. - (194 scrobbles)
Cry by Carly Rae Jepsen - This song is incredible. One of my top 3 favorite CRJ songs. I can’t really describe it, but.... it’s Cry. I have literally seen people pray for Dedicated Side B to have a “Cry”. It’s Cry, and that’s enough of an explanation. - (184 scrobbles)
Now That I Found You by Carly Rae Jepsen - It’s fun! I love the MV, it makes me wanna dance! A nice song! I am perplexed over why I have listened so much to it, as I like every single song from #9 to #15 more than it, but hey, data doesn’t lie. Oh shit, it just got to the prechorus, I take it back, it’s amazing. - (179 scrobbles)
Party For One by Carly Rae Jepsen - Jepsies shit on this song, and this angers me. It’s a bop, the music video is iconic, and it’s classic Carly. I love it. - (177 scrobbles)
LA Hallucinations by Carly Rae Jepsen - THE MOST SLEPT ON SONG FROM EMOTION. THE MOMENT WHEN THE “PLANES I’M HOPPING CARDS I’M DROPPING” HITS, MY WIG IS INSTANTLY EVAPORATED AND I DIE ON THE SPOT. - (172 scrobbles)
Run Away With Me by Carly Rae Jepsen - You know, this is also surprising, because I’m one of the three (3) CRJ stans that does not worship this song. Like, it’s amazing, but I can name 10 better song on Emotion only. But still, it’s amazing. LET’S RUN AWAAAYYY I’D RUN AWAY WITH YOUUUUU - (171 scrobbles)
Fever by Carly Rae Jepsen - You have not lived until you have shouted this song at the top of your lungs while biking in the countryside. One of my three favorite songs from CRJ. The live performance is also amazing. - (154 scrobbles)
The One by Carly Rae Jepsen - This song finally fully clicked for me in August, and, Jesus, this song is truly one of her best. IF YOU WANT TO, YOU COULD HOLD ME TIGHT, I DON’T WANNA BE THE ONE - (152 scrobbles)
Cut To The Feeling by Carly Rae Jepsen - It’s Cut To The Feeling, come on, it’s literally one of the best pop, nah, best songs in history. - (150 scrobbles, however, if we count a certain cover, it jumps to #5 with 209 scrobbles)
Making The Most Of The Night by Carly Rae Jepsen - I remember first hearing this song and reading a comment that said “This song is literal pop perfection”. And, you know what? I’m inclined to agree. - (149 scrobbles)
ooookay, so that top 15 is super diverse, so I’m gonna do a second top 15 with the songs that are not from CRJ lol
17. Crush by Tessa Violet - This song is SO GOOD. It’s not special to me or anything, but it’s SO GOOD. - (134 scrobbles)
20. Delicate by Taylor Swift - One of my favorite songs of all time. It’s up there with “Your Type”, “Please Don’t Leave Me” and the others. - (114 scrobbles)
23. Tonight by Kesha - as a user on r/popheads described it: “THE TRASHY HOE ANTHEM OF THE YEAR” - (134 scrobbles)
24. Primadonna by Marina & The Diamonds - My mental state when I drink five cups of Coca Cola in a row and I get too happy about life. - (111 scrobbles)
25. So Hot You’re Hurting My Feelings by Caroline Polachek - I wanted to dislike this song SO HARD, cause she just kept popping in my recommendations, but once I gave in.... a masterpiece. - (110 scrobbles)
27. Stay Over by Tove Lo - What is with me and desperate bops? Amazing, a masterpiece. - (108 scrobbles)
28. Physical by Dua Lipa - LET’S GET PHYSICAL MISS DUA! The MV is a masterpiece. - (108 scrobbles)
30. Supercut by Lorde - One of my favorite songs of all time. A bop, a masterpiece, the moment. - (105 scrobbles)
32. Liability by Lorde - The only song that has ever made me cry. - (100 scrobbles)
33. Talking Body by Tove Lo - A sexy bop. - (100 scrobbles)
38. You Need To Calm Down by Taylor Swift - It’s catchy, I like it - (98 scrobbles)
39. Don’t Start Now by Dua Lipa - DON’T SHOW UP - (97 scrobbles)
45. Convenient by Lo Lo - This song is so bitchy, it captures the exact kind of energy I’m striving towards. Masterpiece. - (89 scrobbles)
46. Between You & Me by Betty Who - A bop I discovered in summer! Amazing! - (87 scrobbles)
48. Green Light by Lorde - I’M WAITING FOR IT! THAT GREEN LIGHT! I WANT IT! - (87 scrobbles)
some fun stats (for me):
Top Artists:
CRJ has more scrobbles than #2, #3, and #4 combined and if she had a couple hundred more, we could add #5 to the equation.
I’m honestly surprised Halsey and Charli XCX even made it to the top 15, considering I don’t think of myself as a fan of them.
Britney at #9 is a welcome surprise.
It’s very curious to me how I have listened more to Meghan Trainor than Ariana Grande
Also, the small gaps after #7 are really funny. Like the gaps in #1 - #6 are in the hundreds, and the gaps in #7 to #15 happen to be something like 15 scrobbles lol
Top Albums:
I didn’t expect Electra Heart that high, but good for her
I am pretty sure I listened to reputation enough to help TS get to #5 of my Top Artists.
Just Emotion’s scrobbles would have been enough to get CRJ to #2
Top Tracks:
40% (6) of the top 15 all-time tracks are from Dedicated, 33% (5) are from Emotion, and the rest 27% (4) are from Emotion Side B (if we count Cut To The Feeling)
60% of the top 10 all time tracks are from Dedicated, 30% are from Emotion and 10% are from Emotion: Side B
Month Recap:
I will be treating the statistics like charts cause it’s fun lol
May 2019:
May 2019 in one sentence: Carly Rae Fucking Jepsen.
Top Artists:
Carly Rae Jepsen (404 scrobbles, AKA around 20 hours, AKA 2 hours a day) - CRJ released her new album a few days before I started my last.fm, so I was obviously listening to her a lot.
Sara Bareilles (65 scrobbles, AKA around 3 hours) - I was just discovering her hit songs.
Ke$ha (36 scrobbles)
Paramore (34 scrobbles)
P!nk (30 scrobbles)
Top Albums:
Dedicated by Carly Rae Jepsen (184 scrobbles, AKA around 9 hours, so probably one listen of the album a day) - It just came out, and I am a slut for CRJ.
Emotion by Carly Rae Jepsen (64 scrobbles, AKA around 3 hours)
Emotion Side B by Carly Rae Jepsen (63 scrobbles)
Kaleidoscope Heart by Sara Bareilles  (29 scrobbles solely from Gotta Get Over You)
Kiss by Carly Rae Jepsen (27 scrobbles)
Top Tracks:
Want You In My Room By Carly Rae Jepsen (37 scrobbles) - You know, I’m kinda surprised it’s on top, since it’s not in my top 3 in Dedicated, but, to be fair, I probably listened to my top 3 a lot in the three days the album was out and I didn’t have last.fm. A bop.
Too Much by Carly Rae Jepsen (33 scrobbles) - My favorite song on the album. Legendary.
Gonna Get Over You by Sara Bareilles (29 scrobbles) - I had forgotten exactly how much of a bop this song was. I discovered it around the time I set up my last.fm.
LA Hallucinations by Carly Rae Jepsen (21 scrobbles) - One of my faves on Emotion. Deserved much better.
The Sound by Carly Rae Jepsen (19 scrobbles) - You know, this is kinda surprising, cause The Sound isn’t one of my faves, but, hey, it’s a bop.
As there were only 10 days of tracking, there is less material. On to the first full month of tracking!
June 2019:
Top Artists:
Carly Rae Jepsen (=) (990 scrobbles, almost 50 hours, so about an hour and 40 minutes a day) - Miss Carly Rae Jepsen continued her dominance over my ears and my heart during June. As she should.
P!nk (+3) (245 scrobbles, around 12 hours) - P!nk was my favorite artist of all time until 2019, and now shares that title with CRJ and Kesha. Dunno what I listened from her during June yet, but she is very much a summer artist.
Kim Petras (+16) (107 scrobbles, around 5 hours) - Kim Petras has bops, and released her debut album in late June, so I listened to quite a bit.
Taylor Swift (+33) (95 scrobbles)
Ke$ha (-2) (90 scrobbles) - Love her
Top Albums: (Carly Rae Jepsen Dominating My Life Part 2)
Emotion by Carly Rae Jepsen (+1) (303 scrobbles, aka 15 hours) - Oh, wow, Emotion managed to outperform Dedicated? Surprising, but, to be fair, this album is timeless and it has so many bops, I adore it.
Dedicated by Carly Rae Jepsen (-1) (230 scrobbles, aka 11.5 hours) - Dedicated is very much a spring album in my eyes, so as summer gets closer and closer, it seems to give some place to Emotion. I remember being really obsessed with Want You In My Room in June.
Emotion Side B (=) by Carly Rae Jepsen (164 scrobbles, aka 8 hours)
Kiss by Carly Rae Jepsen (+2) (63 scrobbles, aka 3 hours)

You Need To Calm Down by Taylor Swift (debut) (41 scrobbles) - I was obsessed with this song when it came out. Don’t know why people don’t like it.
Happy Not Knowing by Carly Rae Jepsen (+1) (36 scrobbles) - The first appearance of what will eventually become my top track of the year.
July 2019:

Crazy Ex-Girlfriend Cast (+8) (119 scrobbles, around 6 hours)
P!nk (-2) (118 scrobbles) - I always listen to P!nk when I’m on a sea vacation, it’s rules. Like, I associate Funhouse with the amusement parks near the sea.
Ke$ha (=) (106 scrobbles, around 5 hours)
Top Albums: (Carly Rae Jepsen Dominating My Life Part 3)
Emotion by Carly Rae Jepsen (=) (229 scrobbles, aka 11.5 hours)

Kiss by Carly Rae Jepsen (-1) (74 scrobbles, around 3.5 hours)
Top Tracks:
In My Bed by Sabrina Carpenter (debut) (41 scrobbles, aka 1.3 times a day) - Wow, Carly has finally been dethroned on one chart! I remember discovering the MV for this song in July and really enjoying it. It’s a bop!

Now That I Found You by Carly Rae Jepsen (+54) / Your Type by Carly Rae Jepsen (+4) / I Did Something Bad by Taylor Swift (debut) (I had just discovered this song, and god, it’s amazing) (33 scrobbles, aka around 1 time a day)

Top Artists:
Carly Rae Jepsen (=) (544 scrobbles, around 27 hours, so about an hour a day) - Third month in a row!

Summer dies and I go back to school.
Top Artists:
Carly Rae Jepsen (=) (398 scrobbles, around 20 hours) - CRJ really said “y’all ain’t taking my spot on the top artists chart”
Marina & The Diamonds (+31) (107 scrobbles, around 5 hours)
Taylor Swift (-1) (103 scrobbles)
P!nk (=) (76 scrobbles) - P!nk is #4 for the third month in a row lol
Britney Spears (+1) (64 scrobbles)
Top Albums:
Dedicated by Carly Rae Jepsen (+2) (141 scrobbles, around 7 hours) - As summer dies down, Dedicated manages to outperform Emotion for the first time since the month of its release. Good for her.
Emotion by Carly Rae Jepsen (-1) (87 scrobbles, aka 4.5 hours)
Electra Heart by Marina & The Diamonds (reenter) (74 scrobbles, aka around 3.6 hours)
Lover by Taylor Swift (=) (36 scrobbles)

Doin’ Time by Lana Del Rey (debut) (31 scrobbles) - This is such a September song, it’s amazing.
Starring Role by Marina & The Diamonds (debut) (29 scrobbles) - This was around the time I realised this song is actually a masterpiece. Fuck me up, Marina.

Obsessed by Mariah Carey (debut) (26 scrobbles) - I discovered the MV on Youtube and it was and still is, a bop.
Happy Not Knowing by Carly Rae Jepsen (-4) (25 scrobbles)

My biggest memories from this month: Discovering Melodrama and Bad Ideas. (Also Body Talk by Robyn)
Top Artists:
Carly Rae Jepsen (=) (420 scrobbles, around 21 hours)

Lorde (debut) (214 scrobbles)
Marina & The Diamonds (-2) (151 scrobbles)
P!nk (-1) (127 scrobbles)
Top Albums:
Melodrama by Lorde (debut) (200 scrobbles AKA around 10 hours) - Carly finally gets kicked out of the first place by a masterpiece of an album. Discovering Melodrama in autumn was a fucking experience. A masterpiece.
Emotion by Carly Rae Jepsen (-1) (196 scrobbles AKA around 10 hours) - It’s amusing to me exactly how close the two are lol
Bad Ideas by Tessa Violet (debut) (100 scrobbles, AKA around 5 hours) - I adore this album.
Turn Off The Light by Kim Petras (debut) (88 scrobbles, AKA around 4.5 hours) - I mean, it’s the Halloween month, you expect me not to listen to it?
Dedicated by Carly Rae Jepsen (-4) (79 scrobbles, AKA around 4 hours)
Top Tracks: In a shocking turn of events, CRJ is completely kicked out of the top 5. Autumn sadness (or, dare I say, melodrama)’s impact.
Graveyard by Halsey (debut) (42 scrobbles) - A bop. I also really liked the summer-autumnish aesthetics in the MV.
Supercut by Lorde (debut) (40 scrobbles) - Masterpiece.
Liability by Lorde (debut) (39 scrobbles) - When I listened to it for the first time, I cried. I never cry.
Do You Miss Me At All by Bridgit Mendler (debut)/ Clementine by Halsey (debut) (Ugh, this and Graveyard’s aesthetics. Me love it.) (35 scrobbles)
Red by Taylor Swift (debut) (34 scrobbles) - An acquaintance had the nerve to say it’s better than Delicate, so I gave it a listen. Spoiler Alert: It’s not, but it’s a good song.
November 2019:
Warm autumn is gone. Seasonal depression.
Top Artists:
Tessa Violet (debut) (256 scrobbles, AKA almost 13 hours) - And so, the artist who has the honor to end CRJ’s 6 month streak at #1 is revealed. I love Tessa. I continued to listen to her album in November, it’s amazing.
Carly Rae Jepsen (-1) (248 scrobbles, AKA around 12.5 hours) - She ain’t giving up without a fight, your honor.

Haze by Tessa Violet (debut) (47 scrobbles)
Back To You by Selena Gomez (debut) (37 scrobbles)
Crush by Tessa Violet (debut) (34 scrobbles)
I feel like my variety of songs I get obsessed with shrinks as winter approaches. Or, you know, those five songs are that good.
December 2019:
*insert mental image of me desperately ignoring my final thesis project*]
Top Artists:
Carly Rae Jepsen (+1) (495 scrobbles, AKA around 25 hours) - Aaaand she’s back :)
Tove Lo (+43) (199 scrobbles, AKA 10 hours) - I think I discovered Sunshine Kitty around December, which was my introduction to Tove Lo after discovering Glad He’s Gone in the summer.
Tessa Violet (-2) (113 scrobbles, AKA around 5.5 hours)
Britney Spears (+1) (98 scrobbles) - It is most amusing to me how she keeps popping up in this chart, when I’ve never fully listened to an album of hers, and she doesn’t appear on the other two charts lol. Love her.
Taylor Swift (+1) (97 scrobbles)
Top Albums:
Dedicated by Carly Rae Jepsen (+4) (174 scrobbles, AKA around 8.5 hours) - Okay, I figured it out: Dedicated is a winter and spring album, Emotion is summer and autumn.
Sunshine Kitty by Tove Lo (debut) (170 scrobbles) - I discovered it that month, a solid album. Stay Over is my fave on it.
Emotion by Carly Rae Jepsen (=) (131 scrobbles)
Bad Ideas by Tessa Violet (-3) (75 scrobbles)
Emotion Side B by Carly Rae Jepsen (+14) (73 scrobbles)
Top Tracks: (wow, this top 5 is both diverse in terms of artists and immaculate in quality)
Happy Not Knowing by Carly Rae Jepsen (+117) (51 scrobbles) - Okay, so I’m pretty sure this is the point in which Happy Not Knowing began to gain on Too Much to eventually overthrow it as my most listened-to song.
Stay Over by Tove Lo (debut) (49 scrobbles) - I was and still am obsessed with this song.
Out Of Touch by Dove Cameron (debut) (41 scrobbles)
Crush by Tessa Violet (+1) (38 scrobbles)
Feeling of Falling by Cheat Codes feat. Kim Petras (debut) / I’m Fakin’ by Sabrina Carpenter (debut) (37 scrobbles)
January 2020:
I was in a trance between the middle of January and the middle of February. Music related things I remember: Listening to Selena Gomez’s singles and Halsey’s Manic in the beginning, being obsessed with Kesha’s new album High Road and Dua Lipa’s Physical at the end.
Top Artists:
Carly Rae Jepsen (=) (753 scrobbles, AKA around a whooping 37 hours, which is the highest scrobble rate since June and July lol)
Ke$ha (+10) (538 scrobbles, AKA 27 hours) - Her new album came out in the end of the month, I think she would have topped the chart if it was in the beginning lol
Halsey (debut) (291 scrobbles, AKA around 14.5 hours) - Her new album came out in the middle of the month. I enjoyed half of it, but that half was amazing.
Tove Lo (-3) (201 scrobbles, AKA around 10 hours)
Taylor Swift (=) (189 scrobbles) - I didn’t realise I listened to her that much lol
Top Albums:
Emotion by Carly Rae Jepsen (+2) (301 scrobbles, AKA around 15 hours) - Emotion and/or Dedicated almost constantly beating new albums every month will never fail to amuse me
Manic by Halsey (debut) (249 scrobbles, AKA around 12.5 hours)
Dedicated by Carly Rae Jepsen (-2) (214 scrobbles, AKA around 10.5 hours)
Animal by Kesha (debut) (128 scrobbles, AKA around 6.5 hours) - OOH, I remember that, I was relistening to Animal to get ready for High Road. A great album.
Emotion Side B by Carly Rae Jepsen (-1) (124 scrobbles, AKA around 12 hours)
Top Tracks: (This entire Top 5 outperforms every single song that has charted in the Top 5 yet, save for Caroline Polachek’s So Hot You’re Hurting My Feelings, which is only outperformed by the Top 2)
Talking Body by Tove Lo (debut) (a WHOOPING 89 scrobbles, which is very close to 6 hours. This has to be a record) - I discovered this song in the beginning of the month, and gods, it makes me feel so empowered and cool. It’s amazing.
Lay All Your Love On Me by ABBA (debut) (Again, a WHOOPING 65 scrobbles, which I think beats every single #1 on the Top Tracks chart yet save for Talking Body) - I discovered this masterpiece on the second day of the new year, and, I don’t know, this song is so fitting for the timeless period in January. I can’t describe it, but it’s amazing.
You Should Be Sad by Halsey (debut) (59 scrobbles) - Such a nice song, I love the MV too.
True Romance by Ashley Tisdale (debut) (58 scrobbles) - I discovered this song along with the top 2 on this chart and it’s amazing, I love it.
Cut To The Feeling by Elijah Mann (debut) (this CRJ cover is probably the best one I’ve heard yet. Amazing) / VIP by Kesha (debut) (54 scrobbles)
February 2020: The trance continues as I do the majority of the work on my thesis project in the last three weeks. As one does.
Top Artists:
Kesha (+1) (663 scrobbles, AKA around 33 hours) - Kesha joins Tessa Violet as the only artists who have managed to dethrone Carly on this chart. (Both of them were riding off the wave of their new albums which I adore)
Carly Rae Jepsen (-1) (564 scrobbles, AKA around 28 hours)
Marina & The Diamonds (+7) (256 scrobbles, AKA around 13 hours) - And so we enter the so called “Marina” period. When I discovered Marina in early 2019, I listened to her constantly from February to April, and then I slowly stopped listening to as much. I resonate most with her during these months.
Meghan Trainor (+2) (166 scrobbles, around 8 hours) - Meghan’s album came out on the 31st of January, along with Kesha’s, and, in a criminal offense to the entirety of the Internet, I am proud to announce I’m a casual Meghan fan. Don’t come at me.
Taylor Swift (=) (157 scrobbles, also third month in a row where she’s #5)
Top Albums:
High Road by Kesha (+6) (549 scrobbles, AKA around 27.5 hours) - High Road joins Melodrama and Bad Ideas as the only albums that have managed to dethrone CRJ’s Emotion and/or Dedicated on this chart. (With a gigantic lead, mind you)
Electra Heart by Marina & The Diamonds (+19) (143 scrobbles, AKA around 7 hours) - Aaaand Marina barely manages to outperform Emotion. Good for her!
Emotion by Carly Rae Jepsen (-2) (142 scrobbles, AKA around 7 hours)
Emotion Side B by Carly Rae Jepsen (+1) (115 scrobbles)
Dedicated by Carly Rae Jepsen (-2) / Treat Myself by Meghan Trainor (debut) (106 scrobbles) - THE WAY Meghan’s album could barely tie CRJ’s third highest album on the chart lol
Top Tracks: We have some insane numbers again due to my self-isolation to work on the thesis project.
Let’s Be Friends by Carly Rae Jepsen (debut) (76 scrobbles) - Y’all can obviously see what a new CRJ song can do to me lol
Physical by Dua Lipa (debut) (64 scrobbles) - It’s a bop with an incredible video!
Tonight by Kesha (+13) (61 scrobbles) - BITCH WE’RE GOING OUT TONIGHT
Kinky (feat. Ke$ha) by Kesha (debut) (58 scrobbles) - Dare I say, iconic.
BFF (feat. Wrabel) by Kesha (debut) (57 scrobbles)
March 2020: I attempt to get my life together and a global pandemic says “bitch you thought”
Top Artists:
Marina & The Diamonds (+2) (627 scrobbles, AKA around 31.5 hours) - Marina’s power over me during “Marina season” is unmatched
Carly Rae Jepsen (=) (477 scrobbles, AKA around 24 hours)
Lo Lo (debut) (222 sctobbles, AKA around 11 hours) - Lo Lo is an indie artist, whose music I discovered during March. She’s amazing, I DM’d her on Instagram to tell her so and she responded!
Dua Lipa (+6) (196 scrobbles, AKA almost 10 hours) - Her album “Future Nostalgia” came out at the end of the month. Amazing.
Conan Gray (debut) (175 scrobbles) - ALERT! ALERT! A MALE HAS APPEARED! The public is shocked. Anyways, his album Kid Krow also came out in the middle of the month - amazing.
Top Albums: (first time CRJ is kicked out of the top 3, and, hell, even the Top 4)
FROOT by Marina & The Diamonds (+8) (236 scrobbles, AKA around 12 hours) - That month, FROOT finally fully clicked for me. An amazing project.
Sweater Collection by Lo Lo (debut) (186 scrobbles, AKA around 9 hours)
Electra Heart by Marina & The Diamonds (-1) (167 scrobbles, AKA around 8.5 hours)
Future Nostalgia by Dua Lipa (debut) (157 scrobbles, AKA around 8 hours)
Emotion by Carly Rae Jepsen (-2) (150 scrobbles, AKA around 7.5 hours)
Top Tracks:
Convenient by Lo Lo (debut) (a WHOOPING 88 SCROBBLES, only 1 scrobbles below Tove Lo’s Talking Body, which currently holds the record of the most scrobbled track in a month) - This song is fucking amazing.
You & Jennifer by Bülow (debut) (I discovered this from one of Conan Gray’s vlogs, they are very relaxing to watch. Amazing) / Can’t Pin Me Down by Marina (65 scrobbles)
Solitaire by Marina (debut) (62 scrobbles) - I can’t believe I used to find this song boring before March.
Yours by Lo Lo (debut) ( (56 scrobbles)
Femmebot (feat. Dorian Electra and Mykki Blanco) by Charli XCX (debut) (50 scrobbles)
April 2020: Bored.
Top Artists:
Carly Rae Jepsen (+1) (212 scrobbles, AKA around 10.5 hours) - The Presiding Angel Of Pop returns to the top for the first time since January. As she should.
Marina & The Diamonds (-1) (194 scrobbles, almost 10 hours)
Kylie Minogue (debut) (176 scrobbles) - I really got into some of her singles, and I also listened to her album Fever. Sadly, it wasn’t good, so the majority of the scrobbles are from the singles.
Dua Lipa (=) (155 scrobbles)
Kesha (+3) (154 scrobbles)
Top Albums:
Future Nostalgia by Dua Lipa (+3) (141 scrobbles, AKA around 7 hours) - A great album, it was also my workout music.
Pure Heroine (Extended) by Lorde (debut) (110 scrobbles, AKA around 5.5 hours) - I discovered this album in April and, Lord (e), it really is as good as Melodrama.
Fever by Kylie Minogue (debut) (85 scrobbles)
Dedicated by Carly Rae Jepsen (+2) (69 scrobbles (ayyy))
Pang by Caroline Polachek (debut) (68 scrobbles) - I really got into some of the songs.
Top Tracks:
Fever by Kylie Minogue (debut) (52 scrobbles)
I Will Always Love You by Dolly Parton (debut) (50 scrobbles) - I discovered this song that month and Jesus, it’s so much better than Whitney’s version.
Levitating by Dua Lipa (debut) (41 scrobbles)
XS by Rina Sawayama (debut) ( (38 scrobbles)
Cool by Dua Lipa (debut) (35 scrobbles)
May 2020: Spring approaches.
Top Artists:
Rina Sawayama (+3) (184 scrobbles, AKA around 9 hours)
Charli XCX (+28) (165 scrobbles, AKA around 8 hours)
Carly Rae Jepsen (-2) (162 scrobbles, AKA around 8 hours)
Kesha (+1) (130 scrobbles, AKA around 6.5 hours)
Lorde (+1) (127 scrobbles, AKA around 6.5 hours)
Top Albums: (this is the first month in which Emotion and Emotion Side B are dropkicked into oblivion out of the Top 40 lol)
Sawayama by Rina Sawayama (+27)  (182 scrobbles, AKA around 9 hours) - Okay, so, after having r/popheads scream at me indirectly and after getting obsessed with XS, I finally gave this a listen and, man, this is such a stellar record.
Dedicated by Carly Rae Jepsen (+2)  (85 scrobbles, AKA around 4 hours) - I discovered Dedicated’s true calling as soundtrack while cooking. Amazing.
Pop 2 by Charli XCX (debut)  (74 scrobbles) - You know, the irony here is that I dislike, like, 60% of the album. Like, these scrobbles are solely from Track 10, Backseat, Out Of My Head and Femmebot.
Pure Heroine (Extended) by Lorde (-2)  (70 scrobbles) - Because it’s spring and we’re in a pandemic and I’m 19 and I’m on fire
WHEN WE ALL FALL ASLEEP, WHERE DO WE GO? by Billie Eilish (debut) (44 scrobbles) - I first listened to this album when it came out and I found it boring. Then, I participated in a rate on r/popheads which made me do a relisten, and this album is actually really solid!
Top Tracks:
Track 10 by Charli XCX (debut)  (48 scrobbles) - I am not a Charli XCX fan. Like, I feel like a big part of her experimental tracks drop the ball. This, however? This is a masterpiece.
Queen Of Disaster by Lana Del Rey (debut)  (42 scrobbles) - I heard this song from Tiktok lol. First unreleased song on the chart!
Bad Friend by Rina Sawayama (debut) (28 scrobbles) - I do not want to comment on the ways miss Sawayama brutally called me out in this song.
Dead Horse by Hayley Williams (debut) (27 scrobbles) - A bop.
XS by Rina Sawayama (-1)  (25 scrobbles)
Some Observations:
Carly Rae Jepsen has spent 9 months on top of the Top Artists chart.
There has been a CRJ album in the Top 5 Albums every single month, with Dedicated only being kicked out in March, and Emotion in April and May.
The only Top Albums yet: Emotion (4 months), Dedicated (3 months), Melodrama (1 month), Bad Ideas (1 month), High Road (1 month), FROOT (1 month), Future Nostalgia (1 month), Sawayama (1 month)
The only male artists that have appeared on the chart are Conan Gray as #5 on the Top Artists chart in March and Elijah Mann on the Top Tracks chart in January as #5
The lowest place CRJ has been kicked to in the Top Artists chart is #3.
The lowest place CRJ has been kicked to in the Top Albums chart is #5.
The songs with the most scrobbles on the monthly Top Tracks Chart: (also, just noticed #1 and #2′s artists have Lo in their names lol)
Talking Body by Tove Lo
 - 89 scrobbles in January (#1). That correlates to around 3 listens a day.
Convenient by Lo Lo
- 88 scrobbles in March (#1)
Let’s Be Friends by Carly Rae Jepsen
 (#1) - 76 scrobbles in February
Lay All Your Love On Me by ABBA
 (#2) - 65 scrobbles in January.
You & Jennifer by Bülow
 and
Can’t Pin Me Down by Marina
 - 65 scrobbles in March, tied for #2 in March
The only artists who have managed to briefly dethrone CRJ on the Top Artists chart: (The longest wait between CRJ’s #1s is two months: she didn’t have the top spot in February and March)
Tessa Violet (after the release of her new album and by 8 scrobbles)
Kesha (after the release of her new album, and with a healthy lead of 99 scrobbles)
Marina & The Diamonds (out of nowhere, and with the biggest gap yet, with 150 scrobbles)
Rina Sawayama (by 20 scrobbles) / Charli XCX (by 3 scrobbles lol)
This was fun, I might edit in some more observations later!

Games Console Forensics
Tumblr media
Forensic Analysis of Games Consoles
Modern video game devices more closely resemble personal computers than their primitive, specialized ancestors.  Today's gaming consoles can store hundreds of gigabytes of data, connect to and browse the Internet, transmit live video and audio conversations, and much more.  Should the device be modified using a 3rd party modification chip or operating system, the capabilities of the device can be expanded even further, even to the point that it is indistinguishable from a normal PC or server (in terms of the data it can store).  Recognizing these advances and capabilities, it is conceivable that these devices could be used to commit or assist in criminal activities, and therefore must be considered viable sources of digital evidence when used in conjunction with Digital Forensics. In today’s average home there exist many potential sources of digital evidence, from the obvious home PCs and mobile phones to the less common ‘pen-drives’ and PDA’s. All have been subject to comprehensive scrutiny from people involved in the legal process and academics since their properties have been shown to have forensic value. So far comparatively little evidence of an investigation into the forensic properties of modern gaming consoles exists, if we consider how they can be utilised in an increasingly ‘PC-like’ manner, this is an area capable of proffering considerable amounts of data with evidentiary value in criminal or civil court proceedings. Computer forensics is a relatively new discipline combining elements of law and computer science to collect and analyse data from computer systems, networks, wireless communications and storage devices in a way that is admissible as evidence in a courtroom.  Gaming consoles now provide the kind of data which can undergo forensic analysis because of the addition of memory (both internal and external) capable of ‘storing’ data beyond mere computer game information. With the addition of storage capabilities beyond simple game data (i.e. hard drives capable of storing music, video, pictures etc.) gaming consoles are able to utilise ‘web’ functionality and therefore will likely generate both ‘persistent’ and ‘volatile data’ with forensic value. With an increasing amount of media functionality gaming consoles are becoming ‘entertainment hubs’ within the average household. The machines most likely to provide usable forensic data are the Xbox360 and PS3 and due to their prevalence in homes (combined sales figures for the UK are around six million units), these are the machines where a pattern of use would be similar to more readily accepted sources of forensic data (i.e. home computers).   Microsoft Xbox 360 This gaming console can support external memory cards for game data and media storage, however, these are infrequently utilised because of small size (both physically and in terms of data capacity). The most commonly used memory for the Xbox360 comes in the form of a detachable hard-drive ranging in size from twenty gigabytes to two-hundred and fifty gigabytes (allowing vast amounts of saved music, videos, photos etc.) and is essential in allowing online functionality on the machine. On an unmodified machine, this online functionality refers to ‘Xbox live’, the online multiplayer gaming and digital media delivery service operated by Microsoft. This service allows users to Download content from Xbox live Log onto and update social networking and media services such as Facebook, Twitter, Zune and Last.fm Add people to ‘friends lists’ for gaming and/or communication Send (unsolicited) text/picture/voice messages to other users Many of the functions performed on the console have a time and date attributed to when the function was performed (or at least when it was last accessed or altered); this could potentially provide corroboration of a defendant’s location at a specified time.  The communication possible through use of the Xbox live messaging system can provide evidence of illegal activity as messages are automatically stored for up to 30 days before deletion from the system, however, all messages sent via Xbox live are retained on Microsoft servers and recoverable on any console the user profile is signed into, therefore any mention of a crime in a text or audio message would potentially be retrievable by a skilled investigator. The functionality of the Xbox360 can be extended by modifying the internals to allow the playing of illegally downloaded software (piracy) or an operating system such as Linux could be installed and allow an Xbox360 to have almost all the functions of a PC (and associated data records of activity) Full access to the Internet (beyond mere Xbox live) E-mail Chat logs Pirated games One important detail to note is that, at least from the outside, a modified console and an unmodified console can look exactly the same. While it is true that some members of the ‘modding’ community opt to apply various case modifications to their consoles, many do not, and therefore the console could be mistaken for a standard device.   Sony PlayStation 3 The PS3 is similar to the Xbox360 in terms of potential forensic viability. Large amounts of digital media can be stored on its hard drive, and the PlayStation Network (similar to Xbox live) allows users to send messages much in the same way as with the Xbox360. There are two key differences between these consoles, firstly, the PS3 has full internet browsing capability ‘straight out of the box’, even an unmodified PS3 would contain more usable data in terms of Internet search history, downloads etc. on both the hard drive and the system ‘data cache’. Secondly, it was possible to install third-party operating systems on the PS3 without any modification to the system to enable it; this is currently in dispute in the US courts as this feature was removed by Sony to help prevent software piracy on the machine. Regardless, installing a second operating system (for whatever purpose) is still possible, now requiring some hard drive modification to enable this function, allowing the PS3 almost all the functionality of a PC.   Motion Control - Move & Kinect In the final months of 2010 new functionality was added to the PS3 (Move) and the Xbox360 (Kinect), ‘Motion Control’. Using cameras and motion tracking software the console is able to interpret user body movement and replicate it ‘in game’. From an evidential point of view, this provides another type of data to be collected from a gaming console, practically this expands the scope of what data stored on these machines can be used for. The cameras are actually used to record the user of the motion control software at certain points of game activity this can be stored, this could be abused and used to send videos of underage children or obscene videos via Xbox live. The videos could also be used to capture suspects involved in criminal activity, with the videos having a date and time attached, the analysis could determine a location, thereby corroborating or disproving the validity of a defendants claim as to their location at the time of an offence.   Nintendo Wii The Nintendo Wii currently boasts higher sales numbers than the Xbox360 and PS3 combined. It is seen as a gaming console for ‘non-gamers’ and has lower technical specifications than both of its competitors, as such it is less of a target for modification, although data with forensic properties can still be extracted from it. The Nintendo Wii can utilize a first-party Opera-based web browser; bookmarks are retained and may be worth noting. The Wii also retains a basic, daily log of system usage, and also keeps a contact list of added friends, as well as the messages those friends have sent.  Also worth noting is that images may be sent over the player messaging system, which is then saved to the system flash storage or to an external SD (memory) card.  As is true of most modern consoles, various distributions of Linux have been ported to the system (Wii Linux), meaning that it could be utilized in the same way as any desktop PC and should be treated as such.   Sony PlayStation Portable (PSP) A portable game device can be defined as a gaming system that is small enough to be carried outside of the home and runs on batteries. While not as powerful as a console, portable game devices have made significant advances in power since their early days, and may now incorporate functions similar to PDAs. The PlayStation Portable may be used to access the Internet, store images and movies, and can be modified to run 3rd party operating systems, therefore forensic data is recoverable from the memory and ‘data cache’.   Nintendo DS / DSi / 3DS All Nintendo DS units can establish ad-hoc wireless connections to other units to utilize a player to player chat program called Pictochat. Pictochat has been used in the past by predators to lure children to them. The DSi incorporates an SD card reader, which may be used to hide illicit materials. The DSi also incorporates a 0.3-megapixel camera which can store images on its internal flash RAM or SD card.
Games Console Forensics in the Real World
For illustration purposes here are a few real-world instances of crimes involving gaming consoles, hopefully illustrating the need to investigate gaming consoles just as thoroughly as more traditional computer forensic targets. An example of gaming consoles being used in the same manner as a PC and providing usable forensic data would be an incident that occurred in August 2010 in the USA whereby an Xbox live user based in Florida was discovered to have been soliciting naked pictures of a 10-year-old boy also using the Xbox live messaging service. Officers recovered the defendants Xbox 360, two computers and a flash drive and discovered sixteen child-pornography images of various boys. Folsom Police Detective Andrew Bates stated that “parents should realize gaming systems like Xbox and PlayStation, when connected to the internet, can be used as other technology, such as a computer or telephone; users can speak to one another, text, or send photos, thus making these systems another potential threat.”   Former Walt Disney World employee arrested on Xbox child porn charges Useful data recoverable from Xbox live is found in this case where a man surrendered himself to police after threatening a witness against him in an on-going criminal investigation, he was charged with tampering with a witness, intimidating a witness and two counts of second-degree harassment.   Milford cops say threat made through Xbox There are documented instances of unsolicited indecent images being sent via Xbox Live and PlayStation Network, here a couple were sent a message from an unknown user account, upon opening it discovered it contained an indecent image of a young boy and immediately contacted the police. An investigation would be able to determine the time and date this image was received and whether or not it was solicited by the user receiving the image by retrieving previous communications.   Couple left sickened over child porn sent to Xbox A PS3 user persuaded an 11-year-old girl to email him nude pictures of herself (which he subsequently forwarded on to contacts in other US states). No other devices were used to commit these offences and would potentially go undiscovered in an ordinary investigation.   PlayStation Sex Crime: Criminal Used Video Game to Get Girl's Naked Pictures Here a man is accused of grooming several young girls over Xbox live; this was uncovered by the discovery of a mobile phone and recovery of Xbox360 data.   Police: Xbox used to lure girls Considering the myriad of ways in which gaming consoles can now provide investigators with usable forensic data it is crucial that the potential rewards of forensic investigation of gaming machines are fully comprehended. It is possible to commit the types of offences typically associated with a PC on a gaming machine and it possible to retrieve data of equal significance from a gaming machine. Therefore correct seizure and investigation into of these devices should have equal priority alongside other digital storage and communication devices. Read the full article

The New Eldorado: Video Streaming and Streaming Video Content Production
Tumblr media
This newish technology, which provides a continuous stream of data, is awesome for many reasons. From the consumer's perspective, it implies saving time since one does not have to download a file first, and then consume it. Also, members of the public do not have to manage vast quantities of data and space on their computer's hard drive or external disks anymore, since there is no data to download and save as such. From the content producers' perspective, streaming also offers great opportunities: with internet videos and webcasts of live events, there is no file to download, therefore it is hard for most users to save content and distribute it illegally.
Streaming is a relatively recent development, because broadband connection had to run fast enough to show the data in real time. If there is an interruption due to congestion on the internet, for example, the audio or video will drop out or the screen will go blank. To minimise the problem, computers store a "buffer" of data that has already been received. If there is a drop-out, the buffer goes down for a while but the video is not interrupted. Streaming has become very common thanks to the popularity of internet radio stations and various audio and video on-demand services, including Spotify, Soundcloud, Last.fm, YouTube and the BBC's iPlayer. While streaming initially made its mark in the music sector, with music streaming revenues generating $3.3 billion at the end of 2014[1], streaming is currently making phenomenal headway in the video distribution and consumption space.
The video streaming market today: beyond distribution and into content creation
Video streaming: the technical bit
Video streaming technology has come a long way: the most influential group, of course, are the streaming technology providers themselves, who choose which technologies and services to integrate into their platforms. These include Apple, which provides QuickTime as well as the HTML5-based technology to reach iOS devices; Adobe with Flash; and Microsoft with Windows Media and Silverlight. In the early days of streaming, the most relevant playback platforms were Windows and Macintosh computers.
While Apple and Microsoft still hold tremendous leverage, computer platforms tend to be more open than mobile devices, while the latter comprise the fastest growing segment of streaming media viewers. Because Apple owns both a very popular platform (iDevices) and operating system (iOS), it retains absolute power to control standards adopted by Apple devices. Other mobile influencers tend to be split between hardware vendors - like LG, Samsung, Motorola, Nokia and HTC - and mobile operating system providers like Google (Android) and Microsoft (Windows Phone).
Streaming media delivery providers such as online video platforms ("OVPs") (which are productized-services that enable users to upload, convert, store and play back video content on the internet, often via a structured, scalable solution that can be monetized) and such as user-generated-content sites ("UGC sites"), also influence streaming technology adoption. For example, though Microsoft introduced Silverlight in 2007, it wasn't supported by any OVP until 2010, stunting its adoption. In contrast, OVPs like Brightcove and Kaltura, and UGC sites such as YouTube and Vimeo were among the first to support the iPad and HTML5, accelerating their adoption.
While there are dozens of providers in both markets, the key OVPs include Brightcove, Kaltura, Ooyala, Sorenson Media, Powerstream and ClickstreamTV, while the most notable UGC sites are YouTube, Vimeo, DailyMotion, Viddler and Metacafe. On the video live-streaming front as well, technology has made significant strides. Specialised OVPs such as Ustream and Livestream offer instant broadcasting of user-generated live videos with a live chat window running alongside the video player, giving users an opportunity to not only watch events as they unfold but comment on them, too[2].
YouTube made a video live streaming service available to its users too. And now, the icing on the cake: video streaming distributors and providers. The description of this whole ecosystem of video streaming would, indeed, not be complete without mentioning the providers of on-demand internet streaming media also called streaming video on-demand services ("SVoD services"). From 2011, the press began blogging about the most popular streaming media services that would bring high-quality commercial content streamed to the TV sets, smartphones and computers of the masses[3].
Netflix, Amazon Video on Demand (now rebranded Amazon Instant Video and Amazon Prime), Hulu Plus and Vudu came out on top ("SVoD providers").
Replicating the successful business model of music streaming in the video streaming sphere: it's all about scale, baby
SVoD providers have it so good: not only can they benefit from the great strides made by streaming media technology since the mid-noughties, but they can also educate themselves faster thanks to, and avoid the pitfalls which threatened, their predecessors, i.e. streaming music on demand providers such as Spotify, Deezer, Pandora, Rdio, Grooveshark and Beats (the "SMoD providers").
While SMoD providers typically charge USD4.99 per month for an access plan to their services, and up to USDD9.99 per month for a premium plan, SVoD providers start their monthly subscription plans at USD7.99 with a maximum price of USD11.99 per month for SVoD services on up to 4 screens per household. Fearless Netflix even got a lot of flak, in April 2014, for hiking up its new subscriber fees globally by USD1 to USD2 a month[4]. If we quickly do the maths, we can forecast that there is more money to be made in SVoD services, than in SMoD services, provided that these services are scaled up.
And scaled up they are: on 23 April 2014, Amazon announced a licensing agreement that gives Amazon Prime members exclusive access to highly-sought after HBO's library of original content, hence undoubtedly increasing the appeal of becoming an Amazon Prime's subscriber. On 24 April 2014, competitor Netflix announced that it had contracted with three small cable companies to provide subscribers access to its content via TiVo DVRs, while on 28 April 2014 it announced a deal with Verizon to provide Netflix subscribers high-speed online access to streaming content, the second such deal Netflix has made with an Internet service provider ("ISP").
As the technology industry - and to a degree the entertainment sector - function very much on a "winner take all" economic model, streaming content is an evolving battlefield teeming with opportunities and risks, in which companies assert their dominance and grow their market share. There are some clear winners, in the SVoD services' sector, such as Netflix which, in the first quarter of 2014, added 2.25 million streaming subscribers in the US and a total of 4 million worldwide. It now has 35.7 million US subscribers and more than 48 million globally, in line with its long-term goal of 60 to 90 million domestic subscribers. It all makes sense from the consumer's standpoint too: streaming is converting the most valuable downloaders (of music and video content) into subscribers and in doing so is reducing their monthly spending from USD20 or USD30 to USD9.99 on average.
By the end of 2014, music streaming revenues accounted for USD 3.3 billion, up 37% from 2013. In comparison, online and TV-based video streaming services combined to pull in a revenue of USD 7.34 billion in 2013, a figure that PriceWaterhouseCoopers ("PwC") says will rise to USD 11.47 billion in 2016, before reaching USD 17.03 billion in 2018. That rise will be driven primarily by subscription video services such as Netflix and Hulu, PwC says, rather than by through-TV subscriptions.
The leap into content creation and production
What is interesting is that SVoD providers are going beyond what SMoD providers have ever done: they are entering the content production sphere, in order to enrich their catalogues and offerings; to expand their networks of, and reach to, high-powered executives, producers and movie-stars as well as to assert their newly-acquired status and clout. Online streaming video services such as Netflix and Hulu will make more money per year than the US movie box office by 2017, according to a new report release by PwC.
The report projects that streaming services will be the biggest contributor to the American filmed entertainment industry in four years, as the revenue generated by TV and subscription video on-demand providers reaches almost $14 billion, $1.6 billion more than the amount earned from the traditional cinema box office. Therefore, SVoD providers have, and will keep on having, a lot of disposable cash to invest.
How to better invest this available income than in producing high-quality video content, to enrich one's catalogue and products offering? The main area streaming services will have an impact on the traditional box office, the PwC report says, is in release dates. At the moment, most movies are given months in theaters before they slowly make their way to streaming services. PwC says the strength of companies such as Netflix is expected to put pressure on the industry to make this transition faster, offering filmed entertainment to consumers earlier.
More importantly, SVoD providers keep on expanding their content inventories. Netflix already has USD 7.1 billion in existing obligations for original and licensed content, and it recently contracted for an original Spanish-language series; a new series from Mitch Hurwitz (the creator of much-loved Arrested Development); a third season of House of Cards and a final season of AMC's The Killing. Indeed, the economic returns of House of Cards, the test case, were as successful as the critical reviews. Netflix's new strategy fortified its existing revenue model-acquiring and retaining subscribers-and even opened up new revenue streams such as content licensing or even a branded channel with traditional distributors. Netflix spent roughly USD 100 million to produce the first season of House of Cards plus additional marketing investments, including advertising buys for primetime TV spots and high-profile billboards. If House of Cards brought in half a million new Netflix subscribers, with the same average life span as current subscribers (an estimated 25 months), the show would have just about broken even in two years. The real test was the lifetime value of these new customers.
What if many or most turned out to be opportunistic viewers who ended up canceling their subscriptions a few months after watching House of Cards? Then the breakeven opportunity looked vastly different. For example, if the average customer life span was closer to four months, then Netflix would have needed more than three million new subscribers for the project to breakeven-essentially, a 43 percent increase over its current average acquisition rate. Needless to say, this debate is now closed and, in addition to its string of series, very successful Netflix has brokered many recent theatrical deals - it plans to release the sequel to Ang Lee's Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon day-and-date online and in Inmax theatres, and has struck an exclusive four-picture deal with Adam Sandler - which have supposedly enraged many in the business.
Speaking at a keynote in Cannes's MIPCOM in November 2014, Netflix chief content officer Ted Sarandos insisted that the company was only looking to modernize a theatrical distribution model that "is pretty antiquated for the on-demand audiences we are looking to serve". Netflix, he said, is not looking to kill windowing but rather to "restore choice and options" for viewers by moving to day-and-date releases. Not only that, but Sarandos said Netflix would be expanding into more niche genres, including the financing of documentaries and art-house films. Hence, the marketing stunt with teaming up with mega movie star Leonardo di Caprio on the release of documentary Virunga focusing on the fight against poaching endangered gorillas in the Democratic Republic of Congo. The documentary was released simultaneously on Netflix and in theaters in New York and Los Angeles on 7 November 2014. Amazon Prime's tally in content creation and production is also impressive, most notably thanks to its decision to engage Woody Allen to write and direct a series for its SVoD services in January 2015 and its competitive force in TV by landing two Golden Globe trophies for best comedy for its critically praised Transparent and actor for series star Jeffrey Tambor also in January 2015.
So the future is more than bright, for SVoD providers, but what are the threats to their growing supremacy and market share?
A sorry state of affair for SVoD providers and traditional video distributors: counterfeiting in the video streaming market
A tentative expansion to international territories? A false alarm
Initially, the major threat to the rise and scaling up of SVoD services worldwide came from the reluctance, by several European countries to accommodate and "psychologically adapt" to the business model offered by the likes of Netflix.
The French, in particular, were a headache: In the own words of then French Minister of Culture Aurelie Filipetti, "(the French) are absolutely not going to close the door to (Netflix), but they need to get used to the differences with the French market and how they can participate constructively." France has some of the world's toughest rules for protecting its home-grown film and music industries, and none of these will make it easy for a foreign service like Netflix to make a serious dent in the market. The company, which eventually started offering SVoD services in France around November 2014, faces higher taxes than it is used to, including 20 percent VAT, as well as obligatory investment quotas from its profits. Indeed, SVoD services based in France with annual earnings of more than 10 million euros are required to hand over 15 percent of their revenues to the European film industry and 12 percent to French filmmakers.
Meanwhile, France insists that 40 percent of mainstream broadcasters' content must be in French, while existing SVoD providers - including Canal Plus' "Infinity" and Wild Bunch's "Filmo TV" - are currently forced to wait 36 months after a film's cinema release before they can stream that content online. These rules - the so-called "Cultural Exception" - mean that France retains a healthy film and music industry despite fierce competition from the Anglo-Saxon world. And while some commentators have said this model is outdated as ever-increasing numbers of people get their audiovisual entertainment online rather than from more traditional TV and radio media, France is nevertheless continuing to do all it can to protect its homegrown industries.
As mentioned above, despite these hurdles, Netflix eventually started offering SVoD services in France, the toughest foreign market to enter as of yet, during the fourth quarter of 2014. At MIPCOM 2014, Netflix chief content officer Sarandos went on record for saying that viewer behaviour, in Germany and France, was "on par with our successful launches elsewhere in the world" and that Netflix prison dramedy 'Orange is the new black' was the most watched show on the SVoD service in all of the six new European territories. Sarandos added that the viewing mix in Europe - about 70 percent television series and 30 percent feature films - was also similar to that on Netflix services around the world. Therefore, the major threat to SVoD providers, and their more traditional video distributors, lies elsewhere.
The culprits: illegal video streaming programs and providers
While the illegal downloading of music has decreased compared to previous measurements (about a quarter of people who use music streaming services still download music illegally, compared to 32 percent in September 2014), 35 percent of people who use SVoD services are still downloading movies and TV series illegally. This is according to the study Trends in Digital Entertainment, from January 2015, which is conducted by GfK and appears once per quarter. Some illegal SVoD providers are alive and kicking such as Time4popcorn. They offer SVoD services to members of the public, on the internet, without having paid proper and agreed licensing royalties to the owners of the rights in the video content which is being streamed on their channels.
One of these illegal SVoD providers was Aereo.com, which filed for Chapter 11 reorganization proceedings in November 2014. In June 2014, the US Federal Supreme Court handed down a decision in ABC v Aereo. Aereo, a TV-over-the-internet service, had introduced a disruptive business model, using thousands of very small antennas stored in a warehouse, to live stream broadcast signals which they had encoded into packets, directly into the home of users. It was sued by the broadcasters (originally including 21st Century Fox, CBS, NBC and ABC) for infringement of their copyright in public performance. Aereo defended its actions claiming that all it did was to provide a device to watch a programme that was already available. The Supreme Court decided in favor of the broadcasters, ruling that Aereo and its cloud-based technology was too similar to a traditional cable company to say that its service did not infringe. The failed watch-TV-on-the-Internet startup Aereo.com may come back though, since TiVo bought its trademarks, domain names and customer list at auction, for the bargain price of USD1 million in March 2015. TiVo could be looking into offering an Aereo-like service but one that is licensed by TV networks[5].
During the AIPPI Congress in September 2014, Elizabeth Valentina, Vice President Content Protection for Fox Entertainment Group, (speaking on her own behalf as Fox was still litigating the case), pointed out that Aereo's business model involved the streaming of broadcast content obtained without permission, authorisation or license, and for which service Aereo were charging their subscribers. This business model was harming that of the broadcasters and content owners, by devaluing their content, interfering with exclusive deals for content to be delivered over the internet and to mobile devices, as well as diverting eyeballs from TV advertising revenue. It was a harm clearly recognised by Judge Nathan at first instance, in the broadcasters' motion for a preliminary injunction. During the same congress, Sanna Wolk (Associate Professor at University of Uppsala, Sweden and co-chair of AIPPI's copyright committee) compared the US position with that adopted in the EU where the CJEU in March 2013 ruled that online near-live streaming by the UK Company, TV Catchup, was an unauthorised "communication to the public" within the meaning of Article 3(1) of Directive 2001/29 (InfoSoc Directive) and therefore an actionable infringement of copyright. The CJEU concluded that as TV Catchup was making the works in the original "terrestrial" TV broadcast available over the internet, and hence using different technical means to retransmit the broadcast, this retransmission was a "communication" within the meaning of the Article 3(1). Furthermore in the circumstances the court did not have to consider whether communication was to a "new public", as the new transmission required an individual and separate authorisation from the copyright owners. While full-blown litigation seems the obvious and mostly-used response to copyright infringement and counterfeiting in video streaming services, it is debatable as to whether an ardent battle against streaming video piracy is worth it. Indeed, drawing on the experience from the inconclusive fight, led by the music industry, against illegal downloads of music tracks offered by peer-to-peer websites in the early noughties, it may be worth biting the bullet and exploring non-legal avenues to this endemic and crippling infringement.
For example, Popcorn Time, dubbed the "Netflix for pirates" was recently on the run. Time4Popcorn.eu, one of the most popular iterations of the illegal movie site, has had its URL suspended by European regulators in October 2014, effectively turning off the lights for a site that had attracted millions of users in just a few months.
The European ID Registry knocked Time4Popcorn.eu offline due to suspicion that the page was registered with inaccurate administrator contact details. The site's developers, rather than provide accurate contact information, simply relocated to Time4Popcorn.com. With more and more court decisions forcing ISPs to block access to certain websites in the territories that they cover, the best legal approach seems to request an injunction, in key territories, for ISPs to block end users access to the websites of illegal SVoD providers.
What's in the stars for video streaming players and traditional feature film and sitcom producers?
In the short term, I think that traditional players in the TV and film industries, including Hollywood major studios, are going to start feeling the pain, as revenues are derailed by the economic and creative successes of legal and illegal SVoD providers alike. As a result, traditional feature film and TV series producers will have to up their game, focusing their financial and creative efforts on solely "block-buster" material projects. It is going to become even more difficult for independent and young directors and producers to finance their content creation processes, in the future.
In the long term, there will be a leap towards more high-quality content being produced (with stronger plots, bankable stars and exceedingly talented writers, directors and actors included in the content creation mix) by both traditional and SVoD content providers: Darwinism will be in the works, with the survival of only the fittest. Major film studios and distributors will have to adapt or die because video streaming is here to stay and will eventually scale up even more due to easier accessibility and affordability on major consumers' territories, better wifi connections (in particular, due to the generalisation of optical fibre), a wider spectrum of devices on which to watch and stream videos (smartphones, tablets, PCs, TV screens, etc.) and changing habits towards culture consumption (such as, the reluctance to pay to watch movies, an inability to stay in front of a movie screen for around 2 hours for younger generations of consumers and the growth of cocooning).
All in all, the advent of SVoD services and the choice in various SVoD providers is a boon for consumers, as they are spoiled for choice in order to consume only high-quality content; will be able to avoid watching tiring and mandatory advertisements which are crippling TV shows, especially on US TV channels; and will be more in control over the devices on which they wish to consume TV series and feature film content.
The law and its actors (i.e. lawyers, judges, legislators) should accompany this change in consumption habits and video market offering, by being flexible and pragmatic, while protecting, enforcing and defending the streamcomplet  rights of content owners and creators to stimulate the creation and production of the highest quality content in a competitive environment.

some good stuff in here. like the compatibility metric a la last.fm. #applemusic via MacRumors: Mac News and Rumors - All Stories Graphic designer Álvaro Pabesio shared his vision for an updated, enhanced Apple Music on Behance earlier today, and it's an impressively detailed look at UI tweaks and changes that Apple could make to fix a few user gripes with its streaming music app. As you look at Pabesio's designs, remember that this is a concept and in no way indicates or confirms what we'll see with Apple Music in iOS 12 later this year. To start off, Pabesio revamped the Library tab, removing the vertical list for Playlists, Artists, Albums, and Songs, and introducing a horizontal tab bar that you can scroll through. With more space afforded from this change, new daily suggestions pop up right in Library for playlists, stations, artists, and personal mixes the app thinks you'll like. Pabesio nixed "For You" completely by introducing features from this tab into other parts of the app, so the second tab is now Browse. Here you can perform the usual artist and album searches, and find the latest songs and new releases, but Pabesio added in a few details to truly expand browsing on Apple Music. More information is now displayed on the screen at once, thanks to the reduction of the current app's large image banner carousel and the same horizontal scrolling bar from Pabesio's Library tab. Pabesio highlights a much smaller new album/song carousel at the top of his concept, "Trending now" tracks, and places your personal mixes on this page as well. In the graphic designer's imagining of Apple Music, you can provide even more granular feedback into mood playlists by filling out a prompt, like "I'm [happy] and feeling like [going out]." Pabesio's description says depending on your response Apple Music will take into account the music in your Library, the mood you chose, and find "up to 5 hours of selected music" for you to listen to. One of Pabesio's biggest overhauls is a new "Social" tab, taking the rudimentary features Apple added in iOS 11 last September and greatly expanding upon them. When you open the tab you see a similar horizontal tab bar like the one found in Library, and it houses Stats, Friends, Rankings, and more. Apple Music can now show your plays broken down weekly, monthly, yearly, and all time, and even lets you know if you did above or below average in terms of music listening each week. Each user's page now shows their song play counts, following and follower counts, and when you visit someone it'll provide a taste comparison graph, similar to music social network Last.fm. Underneath that, Apple Music profiles now show individually played songs, instead of just displaying the latest albums or playlists the user listened to. These can still be seen too, however, with even more displayed on profiles like playlists, top artists, custom playlists, and more. For Apple's curated playlists, these also show follower counts, as well as up and down arrows to show when songs change position on charted playlists. All of these ideas extend to official artist pages as well. Expanding even further on the social features is a new group playlist ability, so you can create public or private playlists with up to 50 friends. Pabesio also notes tiny fixes like "relevant notifications," a "revamped album view," and the return of double-tapping artwork to love a song. Overall, Pabesio's Apple Music concept is an interesting look into ideas that Apple could incorporate into the Music app down the line, and there's much more to check out on his Behance page, including his tweaks to Apple Music on Mac. We should be hearing about any updates coming to Apple Music very soon, with the reveal of iOS 12 and much more at WWDC just two weeks away.

Lesson 4: Types of Social Media
Tumblr media
Despite popular belief, not all social media platforms are created equal.
Social media is first and foremost a tool for building relationships. Marketers should seek to develop these channels as early as possible and engage with customers regularly. When choosing their social media outlets, companies should consider factors such as their audience demographics and how each platform type can enhance or diminish their marketing message. Companies should also be aware that like any relationship, a successful bond with their customers via social media takes time to cultivate.
Here’s our list of 10 types of social media and what they’re used for:
1. Social Network (Examples - Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn)
Its purpose is to  provide general information, to engage with a wide range of customers. It is best for most companies, particularly those that “hard sell” products and events.
Social networking sites are some of the most pervasive on the internet. Encompassing such sites as Facebook and Twitter, these platforms are excellent for companies that want to share their information on a single convenient social media platform. For example, companies can communicate event details, announcements or information about promotions and other timely topics. Companies can also participate in digital customer service and respond to general discussion posts. Depending on the specific site, social networking platforms provide ample opportunities to interact with customers in real time.
The downside of social networking sites is their almost continual maintenance. In addition, their content may not always be seen by a wide audience. Because social networking platforms are so interactive, marketers should feel comfortable with audiences clicking through to a company’s main website at slower-than-average rates.
Tumblr media
2. Bookmarking and content curation networks ( Examples - Pinterest and Flipboard)
Its purpose is to provide a designated platform for audiences to tag, collect and recommend websites and web content. Best for industries that rely heavily on word of mouth for new business.
Bookmarking sites allow audiences to identify and rate content from around the web. With these platforms, users can search for content based on their interests and find relevant content tagged by others.
Companies can use bookmarking sites to share content such as company-written articles or customer testimonials. They can also use these particular platforms to present relevant information about their field, positioning themselves as experts. When companies prove they can stay on top of their industry’s pulse, they improve their reputation and encourage potential customers to further engage in their social media presence.
3. Media sharing networks (Examples - Instagram, Youtube and Snapchat)
Its purpose is to share  visual content. Best for industries that rely heavily on this content.
A. Image sharing - Image sharing and messaging sites allow businesses to disseminate visual content to their audiences. Because visual content is particularly easy to digest and share, industries that may fare well with image sharing sites include exercise, fashion, beauty, photography, travel and food. These sites are particularly useful if a company wants to advertise its products without trying to hard-push sales. Users can comment on images and share them without pressure, so they can gain interest naturally. Companies seeking to use image sharing platforms should take special care to use high-quality images.
B. Video Sharing - Video content is highly popular among consumers. Thus, it’s a prime way for companies to improve or maintain their web presence. Video is excellent for organizations that want to educate their audiences, demonstrate products, share interesting visual experiences or produce creative assets. Companies can also take advantage of vloggers, who are often paid in exchange for placing company products in their videos.Websites such as YouTube make it exceptionally easy to get content onto the web. However, the massive amount of video content available can make it difficult for users to see that content.
4. Discussion forums (Examples - reddit, Quora and Digg)
Its purpose is to engage in conversation with other internet users about products, topics, etc. Best for companies seeking to engage with customers on the “ground floor.” Social community and discussion sites allow businesses to gain insight into the minds of their customers and build relationships with them over longer periods of time. These sites, made up of forums, allow users to discuss topics (such as a company’s product) in a communal setting. When companies use these platforms, they must keep in mind that offering a direct sales pitch won’t help them win customers. Marketing managers must instead follow the guidelines of the community, only respond to questions about their company or product (never initiate) and take the integrity of the community to heart. Doing so builds trust between the company and community members and can ultimately lead to a longer-term connection.Marketing managers have many options to choose from when deciding on the social media platforms that fit their companies. There is no one right answer. It’s certainly not required to use all available platforms. Instead, companies should look carefully at what they do and what their audiences want, then build a campaign that speaks directly to the unique characteristics and needs of their customers.
Tumblr media
5.  Consumer review networks (Examples - Yelp, Zomato and TripAdvisor)
Its purpose is to find, review, and share information about brands, products, and services, as well as restaurants, travel destinations, and more.  Positive reviews bring social proof to your claims. Handled well, you can resolve issues with unhappy customers.
6. Blogging and publishing networks (Examples -  WordPress, Tumblr, Medium)
Its purpose is to publish, discover, and comment on content online.  Content marketing can be a highly effective way to engage with your audience, build your brand, and generate leads and sales.
7. Social shopping networks (Examples -  Polyvore, Etsy, Fancy)
Its purpose is to spot trends, follow brands, share great finds, and make purchases. For business, brands can build awareness, increase engagement, and sell products via new channels.
8. Interest-based networks (Examples: Goodreads, Houzz, Last.fm)
Its purpose is to connect with others around a shared interest or hobby. For business,  if there’s a network devoted to the kind of products or services you provide, these networks can be a great place to engage with your audience and build brand awareness.
Tumblr media
9. ‘Sharing economy’ networks (Examples: Airbnb, Uber, Taskrabbit)
Its purpose is to  advertise, find, share, buy, sell, and trade products and services between peers. For business, if you happen to offer the kind of products or services traded here, these networks can be another channel for bringing in business. (For example, if you operate a bed-and-breakfast, Airbnb could help you find customers.)
10. Anonymous social networks (Examples: Whisper, Ask.fm, After School)
Its purpose is to  gossip, vent, snoop, and sometimes bully. For business,  they almost certainly can’t. Steer clear.
Final Word
There is no better marketing strategy for eCommerce than social media advertising. No other avenue can deliver consistent, scalable, quality leads and customers from day one that can supplement any promotional marketing.
Choose your platform. Run your campaign. Get results.

My 2016 “Wrapped”??
Wow, I only posted on my blog two times in the last year, pathetic (haha). Recently, to be honest, I’m guilty of completely forgetting about this for a time. With that said, it doesn’t mean I haven’t been listening to music. It just means I haven’t been listening to any new artists or bands; remaining true to the whole concept of this blog.
Anyways, last year Spotify killed it with its My Year in Music (you can travel back in time to an earlier post where I posted about my 2015 year in music based on Spotify and Last.fm statistics). This year nobody is really happy about Spotify’s 2016 Wrapped website and their complimentary decision of: your “Wrapped” year of 2016, delivered via Emails. I too am in the same vote. I have no idea what they were thinking. Seriously, what made them think this was a good idea? #SuperFail (haha). At least Spotify allows you to connect your Last.fm account. Regardless, I love my listening stats and this year will be no different.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Last year Spotify started things off with the first track I listened to for 2015. However, this year using Last.fm: the first track i listened to was an acoustic version of “Crazy” by A Skylit Drive.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Spotify was kind enough to include how many times I even listened to my top artist... last year. Yep, but, thanks to Last.fm:
Rihanna (181 Scrobbles)
Problem (154)
50 Cent (145)
Young Buck (102) M.I.A. (122)
3 Doors Down (108)
*Yeah, you read that correctly Young Buck has six less scrobbles than 3 Doors Down because Young Buck should be replaced with M.I.A. with 122 scrobbles.*
1) I scrobbled Rihanna 315 times (since 2011) including one time this year. Which means I scrobbled her the most in 2016 compared to the last five years. Most of those scrobbles were in the months of February and March with 64 scrobbles and 43 scrobbles respectively. I believe I started listening to her discography but, never finished until last year. Now I’m all caught up. 2) I scrobbled Problem a fair amount the last two years (before 2016) but in 2016 I decided to listen to his discography which is the reason he placed so high on my top artist chart. More than half of those scrobbles took place in April with 90 scrobbles; more specifically April 14th with 84 scrobbles. I have a total of 283 scrobbles for Problem including one from this year. 3) Wow, here is an artist you won’t see on most people’s top charts. I listened to 50 Cent 325 times including two times this year. I scrobbled him the most last year with 20 more scrobbles compared to the year 2013. 50 Cent released a particular track titled “I’m the Man” in December 2015 and I scrobbled it throughout the following year of 2016. That is a damn good song and it deserves a special shout out. 4) For the 4th top artist let’s talk about the correct artist that should be represented: M.I.A.. So, I have a total of 144 scrobbles from her and you can guess which year most of those scrobbles took place. I listened to her discography in April within three days; more specifically April 11th – 13th with a total of 58 scrobbles. Then later on in the year she released AIM in September which I was hyped about since I heard her track “Borders” another song worthy of a special shout out. 5) Finally, we have 3 Doors Down. I wonder how my cousin would react to this. I scrobbled 3 Doors Down 205 times (none this year… so far). I’m starting to see a pattern here, All my top artist seem to be ones that I’ve listened to their discographies during the year of. It makes complete sense though because it’s an extension of scrobbles from a singular artist. Like a huge boost, with no other scrobbles from other bands or artists. And honestly, sometimes it can be just a little overwhelming. Anyhow, the majority of scrobbles took place in February, specifically on the 6th and 7th with a total of 65 scrobbles.
*No top albums from Spotify.*
Tumblr media Tumblr media
*Last year Spotify had top 5. Now I’m blessed with only top 3. To top it off, according to Last.fm the only track in the right spot is “Cry” by Carly Rae Jepsen but, instead of crossing things out I’ll just talk about what you see.*
“Cry” by Carly Rae Jepsen (13 Scrobbles)
“Love on the Brain” by Rihanna (5)
“Poison & Wine” by The Civil Wars (7)
1) “All That” by Carly Rae Jepsen was my top track of the year 2015 and yet another Carly Rae track tops my yearly charts. The song is actually from the E•MO•TION: Side B EP so it’s no wonder I would love it so much. This individual track didn’t get much praise critically but, it definitely stuck out on a personal level. The first time I heard it I listened to it an additional 3 more times. 2) After I first heard this track I scrobbled it and additional 2 times adjacently with another track from the same album: “Kiss it Better.” By the end of the year, “Kiss it Better” had the same amount of scrobbles as “Love on the Brain.” 3) I really love “Poison & Wine” and scrobbled it a total of 16 times (since 2011). With seven nearly being half of the total. I actually listened to it three times on April 23rd.

Top 5 Genres: *According to Spotify*
Pop Rap
Pop Punk
Screamo
Metalcore
Rap
The first three genres showed up on my top five back in 2015.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Alright, so that’s curtesy of Spotify. Now I want to split this post with similar statistics based off Last.fm and do some comparisons:
*Keep in mind that these statistics represent Jan. 1st – Dec. 1st because… Last.fm.*
Tumblr media
I moused over September so you could see the total amount of scrobbles for that month (3,505). Coincidentally, that was the same month I posted about Whitney Peyton. I scrobbled an average of 113 songs a day that month. On September 19th I scrobbled 250 songs. That average 45 scrobbles per day hasn’t changed ever. I scrobble more songs than that multiple times daily but, it still never changes.
Tumblr media
*There’s a tooltip near “98th Percentile” that states: “You listened to more artists than 98% of other Last.fm users.*
My Top 15 of 2016:
Tumblr media
In 2015 The Game made my Top 5 artist with 182 scrobbles, mostly because I listened to all the albums that weren’t previously available when I listened to his discography back in 2012. I also mentioned that he dominated my entire listening history and that still remains true with 741 scrobbles. Papoose was my number one scrobbled artist in 2015. Last year, I only scrobbled him 62 times. Messy Marv and 2Pac did make the top 50 and Duffy barely made top 100. 36 Crazyfist, Young Buck and 40 Glocc are among the list of artist where I listened to their whole discography last year.
Tumblr media
*Tooltip: “You listened to more albums than 99% of other Last.fm users.”*
My Top 15 albums of 2016:
Tumblr media
Carly Rae Jepsen’s E•MO•TION was my number one scrobbled album with 61 scrobbles in 2015. Last year, it barely made the top 15 with 30 scrobbles. The E•MO•TION: Side B EP was actually 16th with 29 scrobbles; tying with Santigold’s 99¢, She is We’s War, and Creed’s With Arms Wide Open: A Retrospective. In 2015 Lana Del Rey’s Honeymoon was top 2 and AWOLNATION’s Megalithic Symphony was top 3, neither made the top 100 last year. Dead Sara’s Pleasure to Meet You made top 4 and last year it was top 3 with 36 scrobbles. I like Dead Sara and I love that album, I’ve already listened to it once in full this year. Duffy was also on the top 5, she made top 4 last year with 35 scrobbles. I also love Duffy, glad to see her at the top again. :) Dead Sara and Duffy almost matched the same amount of scrobbles as they did in 2015. B.o.B’s Elements album reminds me of when I first started listening to him and his early mixtapes before I made an account with Last.fm and Spotify was nonexistent. AWOLNATION did make the top 10 with a new album and it is really good.

My Top 15 Tracks of 2016:
Tumblr media
None of the songs from the top 5 in 2015 made the top 15 last year. Meaning last year’s top 5 is completely fresh. However, Carly Rae Jepsen Dominates 2015 and 2016. Earlier I mentioned how 50 Cent’s “I’m the Man” was a good track and it made my top 3 last year. The Judds’ “Cry Myself to Sleep” is a really good song too, I remember how that song would just pop into my head and with the ease of Spotify I can searched it and played it. I believe that this has happened more than once for this exact song, at least twice. I scrobbled it three times in July and at least once the following months. Another song I scrobbled three times in July was The Word Alive’s “Battle Royale.” It is a good song, but I think this one just got lucky based on Spotify RNG and was played more often than usual or something; I also like it enough not to skip it. Chief Keef’s “Hate Bein’ Sober” made top 4 in 2015 from the album Finally Rich. “Hallelujah” is another song from that album that made top 10 last year. Demi Lovato keeps improving and maturing beautifully in a musical way. I hella love her song “Body Say” it’s so sexy, I mean is there really any other word to describe it? If she keeps making songs like that I would anticipate her next album as much as I did Carly Rae Jepsen’s album. In fact, now that I think about it, I really want her to make an album that evolves around that song. Finally, the other song I mentioned that was worthy of a shout out: M.I.A.’s “Borders,” the controversy from the result of the music video and her response made the song that much more great. Not to mention the current situations in politics at the moment, this song just seems to address that not just currently, but in general.
Tumblr media
*I tried to mouse over the highest amount while also showing that it is obviously the highest.*
This is one of the most unique statistics available. Apparently, I scrobbled the most music at the stroke of midnight (haha) with a total of 793 scrobbles from 12:00AM to 1:00AM.
Tumblr media
No mouse over tooltips pop up this time but, this is also another distinctive statistic because of the way it is presented, as a pie chart. What makes this unique is clear proof that I like all genres and apparently almost equally. However, if we combine Rock and Post-Hardcore and Hip-Hop and Rap together, it looks like I favored the Hip-Hop and Rap genres more last year.
Tumblr media
Fridays are my preferred day to listen to music with a total of 2,774 scrobbles last year. This actually doesn’t surprise me because Spotify releases new music every Friday. There are other websites I could go to listen to new music daily but, I love Spotify and it’s so simple because it automatically scrobbles to Last.fm.
Tumblr media
Look what we have here, proof that I haven’t been discovering new music. 98° is nothing new; I was listening to them in the 90’s along with all the other Pop R&B sensations. All those new albums were from artist I’ve already heard before and they released new music last year. Same goes for New tracks.
Tumblr media
Here is more proof that I scrobble a single artist listening to their full discography back to back. See how the dates for problem and his album Mollywood 3: The Relapse are on the same day. I just checked, that album does have 37 total tracks (not including short skits that I choose not to scrobble). Also, remember earlier in this post when I mentioned that I scrobbled "Cry" four times?
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
August 27, 2016 was actually a Saturday, if you were expecting a Friday so was I. Digging a little deeper, Whitney Peyton and AWOLNATION took up the majority of the 2,792 scrobbles during this 19 day listening spree. I scrobbled an average of 139 scrobbles a day during this streak. I wanted to avoid posting the Listening History graphs because when you look at them they don’t represent accurate dates but, when you click on them they do take you to the correct days. (For instance, the 19 days took place between Sep. 7th – Sep. 25th and the graph says Sep. 6th – Sep. 24th, but if I click on Sep. 6th it will actually take me to Sep. 7th and 7th will take me to the 8th and so on.) By the way Sep. 18th Sep. 19th has exactly 250 scrobbles. And that’s 2016... “Wrapped.”
My Top Songs of 2016:
Song Choice: Carly Rae Jepsen – Cry
youtube
*Unofficial (Fan-Made) Music Video*
Explanation for Song Choice:
Just like in 2015, Carly Rae Jepsen has earned another special recognition on my blog with another chosen song choice. It’s interesting how my #1 song of 2016 is by the same artist from 2015 and the E•MO•TION: Side B EP; the complimentary side B of the album of the year of 2015. I really like this song because it’s E•MO•TIONAL (hehe), atmospheric, calm, sensual, and beautiful; probably even a little relative. Songs like this really make me want to experience it in a concert setting surrounded by strangers who possibly feel the same way.
