jiwon wanted to see the avatar movie so i said O Kay because if i see it then people cant bitch at me for complaining about it aithout having seen it and we went to watch it and when we came out i really tried to not start complaining right away but i did start complaining after a little and not even like complaining just saying "wow it's crazy how racist it was for them to take the tattoos of the maori people and slap them on aliens for fun or whatever also why did his sons speak with accents and not his daughters and also why was The Chosen One who can Connect to the Heart of the Planet the result of a white woman's immaculate conception" yknow normal stuff and he just kind of listened and went "mmhmm. Mmhmm." and then he said something about he and his friends wondering about how political correctness has become so prevalent in american films and i was like. How. Where. and then i talked for a long time and asked him what he thought political correctness was and how a film being deeply offensive to native americans and other indigenous peoples is any different from koreans getting angry about the use of the rising sun flag in japanese media and long story short glad we went to see it bc i think he came to understand something about why things matter even if they dont concern koreans and that when i comment on these things its not purely to be a hater its because it fucking matters and ignoring when directors/studios/anyone does these kinds of things in their art it makes it easier for people to trivialize the real problems real people face under the current systems.
