I don’t like how the killing curse works. It’s deeply stupid and I hate it so much (insert mandatory fuck turfs statement here )
I present to you a smaller and more reasonable explanation to the killing curse brought to you by my memory of Harry Potter and talking to myself as I play Cookie Run: Kingdom
The killing curse is mentioned to have exactly no symptoms, muggle doctors only finding the signs of the heart stopping entirely. Heart attack. There are no discernible changes to the body or heart itself whatsoever.
The spell also cannot be blocked with simple spells like protego, the only way in the books to counter was under very special circumstances (Harry v Voldemort with the whole expelliarmus thing and Lily sacrificing herself)
So what is the killing curse other than just a straight up insta kill that you can’t really block at all? Is it anything other than an assassins wet dream, or perhaps the fantasy of a child who insists that you couldn’t beat them in a make-believe fight?
My first pitch! Avada kadavra is a simple spell that just stops the heart, the spell holds it in place and doesn’t allow it to beat. This in reality would probably be more than instantaneous, but I love the idea that it’s something so simple. Can you imagine creating a counter spell that just lets the heart continue beating? The most overpowered spell ever should absolutely have the easiest solution.
Second, it’s just giving someone a heart attack. Succinct, but wouldn’t a heart attack take more time? I raise you a spell that just is a really fast acting heart attack. Say you did the same with sectum sempra, cut out the middle man and you make someone instantly have severe blood loss! I love that
Third (and least flushed out idea), maybe just a really precise and targeted wave of energy? I’m not sure what kind, but a pure beam of radiation would totally kill a man. Not plausible given the lack of symptoms, so radiation or even pure force that hostels the heart would be out of the question. So, the boring route, the supernatural. Kind of just a really concentrated amount of magic that is too much for the human heart to handle. Humans are the only species mentioned to only having some members be magical, I like the idea of too much magic making people overdose.
Now I need to think about the morals connected to magic and its relation to inherently dark vs I gently light magic I LOVE THINKING
