Fieldwork Activity #1 : Making Telfars Unfamiliar

The history of Telfar

The first Telfar bag was created by self -taught queer black designer Telfar Clemens. Telfar was born and raised in Queens , New York and created his self -named fashion house in 2005. While in high school at New York's P.S. 206, Clemens's teacher wrote monograms for all of their students. The monogram the teacher gave to Clemens later became the brand's signature logo. Clemens won the Vogue Fashion Fund award which led him further into the spotlight. It was very important for the Telfar bag to seen as completely unisex bag that any , and everybody could wear without the labels. In 2014 the first bag was introduced at the Autumn/Winter 2014 runway show , but did not receive a lot of recognition until 2018. For a long period of time queer black people in New York City were ubiquitous supporters of Telfar , that is until celebrities such as Solange, A$AP Ferg, and Kelsey Lu begin to wear the bag publicly. In August of 2020, Telfar introduced the Bag Security Program, a one-day-only online event in which allowed thousands of people to preorder guaranteed bags. During the New York Fashion week Telfar Clemens hosted his first pop-up shop in Brooklyn where thousands of people showed up shutting down traffic for hours. This caused Clemens to host another pop up except this time online. Since the Telfar bag has been launched there has often been conversations about whether it is considered a luxury item or not. Telfar bags typically retail for $200-$500, far less than other highly-desired handbags by the likes of Chanel, Prada. Telfar bags are now one of the most sought after bags in the world.

Manufacturing of Telfar Bags

Telfar bags like most luxury bags are manufactured in China. The logo featured on telfar bags are of a T inside a C, a form of his initials created by one of Telfar’s childhood teachers. Telfar's financial model is unique due to the fact that it is a self financed production. The massive increase in demand, has caused Clemens to have to double the size of the headquarters in Bushwick, Brooklyn, and have leased a 10,000-square-foot warehouse in New Jersey to manage their own fulfillment. To manufacture a Telfar bag factory workers use vegan leather and it features both cross-body straps and handles so it can be worn multiple ways. It contains a 45 degree sticking angle with two types of straps, double top handles and shoulder straps. Every bag contains an additional brand tag that reads "Telfar / EST . 2005, NYC". It comes in a variety of colors and blends fashion and function, and has a decent amount of carrying space.

Impact of Telfar on Me

In the past I would never be caught dead considering myself a purse kind of girl" that is until I discovered Telfar bags. Whenever it came to wearing purses or bags I would avoid it at all cost because it made me feel to girly. When I first ever saw someone with a Telfar bag my initial thought was that it was cute but I would never get one. Fast forward to today and I have now found myself being a collector of these bags. I grew up in a working /middle class household and was not always able to afford designer bags such as Chanel , or Luis Vuitton. As these Telfar bags became more popular I officially decided that I wanted one and once I saw that they were not as expensive as I thought , i never went back. Telfar bags have not only allowed me to express myself but make me feel good anytime I wear it.

Conditions of Factories

There is little to no information on the condition of the factory workers , however Telfar Clemson has stated that there is an exceptional quality of work and flexibility when working with manufacturers.

What are your predictions for NCT for the rest of the year???

I know we're already 2 months in and SM has released their 1Q comeback plan. But it would be interesting to see what you think might happen in NCT this year. Your predictions always seem quite accurate.

This is the one I made in like January, it's definitely not accurate but it'll be fun to see what I get correct l.

My predictions are usually wrong, anon, heh. The new NCT unit will be a Japan based unit not SEA afterall... WayV became the SEA unit in practice...

With SM being on fire, 127 and Dream renewing their contracts (with new terms), Super M coming back (but not this Spring I think, postponed), Taeil enlisting there is too much uncertainty. Look at how aespa's new song was scratched to get rid of LSM's involvement with it.

In the past SM said it will hold auditions for NCT Tokyo. I guess 2 or 4 Japanese trainees will be added to SungTaro+SRB2022. These days bigger groups are more popular with agencies. Probably 2 members, it's easier to get 2 good ones than 4 good ones. Plus, it will make the unit almost 50/50 to promote in Korea as well (4j+3k).

We know there will be a 127 concert in Hong Kong in 2Q-3Q. SM execs signed the deal after like a week of an offer from the promoter. Johhny said he wants a new concert (not Link). And SM wants 20 concerts per artist. 127 will get a tour with Taeil being shown on screen how they did with Hyuk for the Link US leg, I suppose. And new solo/unit numbers.

WayV is promoting as 5 members right now, however I noticed that many articles used 7 member group pictures (and they were not corrected by SM PR team) to announce the album release. One, two, three, four, five, six. WayV has a storyline with members being kidnapped, so it's not hard to explain an absence of someone lore wise.

New songs for Ten as a soloist and units in summer?

Hendery needs Lucas to be in a Unit... WW is no rapper and he has his Chinese tv series to promote himself. Ten&YY click, so their duo is natural. Adding Hendery might not be organic. Out of all neos Hendery is the most misfortunate.

A Japanese full album for 127 after Tae's solo but before Taeil's enlistment. 2Q then.

Seulgi's album sold better than WayV. Key had a repack. Onew is releasing a full solo album. Kai will have his 3d EP. Soloist are in vogue nowadays. Another NCT solo in 4Q? (Mark? Ten?)

NCT2023 has to happen because a new NCT unit is to be launched and Lucas somehow brought back. Plus U albums and singles are doing very well. Look at Beautiful, 50mln views. MAW and Boss are the two most viewed MVs, BDS will reach 100mln soon.

WayV mini in summer, a full album in winter? Dream and 127 full albums as usual Summer-Autumn.

Converted from an abandoned dock, Futian Mangrove Ecological Park is the first city park run by a NPO in China. The bordering estuary provides habitat for fish, shrimp and crab; In this area, you can find mudskipper and black-faced spoonbill. The Outdoor Classroom co-built by Nature Explore Classrooms is an ideal place for pre-school kids to have fun while learning about nature.

Honey Park is an example of sponge city with an ecological water system. It is garnished with flowers throughout the year. You can enjoy the view of a 100,000 square meters' lychee orchard or observe aquatic plants and insects by the lake, bringing you fun experiences of childhood.

Fairy Lake Botanical Garden is a scientific research site. This natural oxygen bar comprises of nearly 12,000 species of plants. You can find China's rare plants like Alsophila spinulosa, Camellia nitidissima, etc. You can meander through cycads, shade plants, cactus and succulent plants. Besides, you can enjoy birds, flowers and butterflies in the kingdom of plants .

Known for lotus in summer and bald cypress in winter, Honghu Park hosts a big lotus festival each June with 120,000 square meters of lotus. Tanglang Mountain is covered by greens, where you can find rare plants such as Alsophila spinulosa, Aquilaria sinensis, as well as traces of wild mammals such as Asian leopard cat, small Indian civet, and masked palm civet. Several trails will lead you to the peak where you can enjoy a splendid sunset.

The tallest mountain in Shenzhen, Wutong Mountain greets you with stream, waterfalls, and abundant green. Trekking along the stream, you will meet butterflies, dragonflies, and damselflies in the air, and Hong Kong newt and frogs in the water; in spring, the blooming Rhododendron moulmainense flowers all over the mountain will fill you with joy.

Qiniang Mountain, formed by volcanic eruption, contains a variety of rock types. You could explore remains of ancient volcanoes, as well as visit the only geographic museum in Shenzhen. The verdant forest nurtures a rich eco-system which makes it perfect for excursions.

城中村农民房改造的日式青年公寓。钢结构屋顶立体空间承载着400多个具有雨水吸纳功能的种植箱，扩展了屋顶绿化空间，还为公寓居民新增了休闲花园，提升了社区环境的宜居性。每周开放时间为周二与周四（14:00-16:00）。

位置：深圳市福田区岗厦村东三坊204号

Gangxia 1980 is a Japanese style youth apartment complex transformed from an old village house. The metal structure on the roof contains 400 planter boxes which collect rainwater. The rooftop serves as a green space for the building’s residents while also improving the overall environment of the neighborhood. It opens on Tuesday and Thursday from 14:00-16:00.

杨梅坑的海岸线享誉深圳，沿海公路移步换景，是单车骑行的极佳目的地。丰富的潮间带可以观察海洋生物，如沙虫、寄居蟹、海葵等。杨梅坑也有可登山溯溪的小径，可以品尝农家新鲜海味的餐厅。

位置：深圳市龙岗区杨梅坑新东路海滨浴场旁

Yangmeikeng coastline is of dazzling beauty, biking along it will bring you radiant views. The intertidal zone is habitat to creatures such as sandworms, hermit crabs and sea anemones. You can also trek along the stream and taste fresh seafood here.

入选《国家地理杂志》中国十大最美丽的徒步路线之一。除了浪花沙滩，还有独特的礁石海岸线，沿途可见露兜树、草海桐等滨海植物；西涌天文台还可以让你瞭望浩瀚星空。

位置：深圳市龙岗区东涌旅游区内东涌沙滩

It is listed as one of the ten most beautiful hiking trails in China by the National Geographic. Besides pristine water and soft beach, you will see rugged rocks and seaside trees. You can also look into stars in the Observatory of Xichong.
