Curious Cuddles

Down time between hunts was usually mind-numbing. Intense boredom filled with booze and mundane tasks to occupy your brain was the only thing you had to look forward to. Dean was back east cleaning out a small Men of Letters storage house, which left you and Sam, your boyfriend, alone in the bunker. The first few days were spent christening every room in the bunker several times, but you both eventually drifted towards your own hobbies, leaving Sam in his room reading and you in the library playing on your laptop.

After your twentieth game of solitaire, you leaned back in the seat and groaned, rubbing your sore and strained eyes. Unsure if it was the sleep deprivation or just sheer curiosity, an idea popped in your head. You opened up Google and typed your own name, wanting to see if there was any news stories about your suspected death or any crimes you were possibly linked to.

The only story that came up was a two-decade old article from a science fair you won in your hometown. Braces and bangs was not a flattering look on you, and you quickly closed the article with a shudder. Dean’s name went in next, and didn’t pull anything up aside from the news reports of him dying, which was ditto for Sam’s when you typed his name. Throwing one last Hail Mary, you typed in ‘Sam and Dean’ and clicked search.

The results exploded in your face.

The first link was to Amazon, advertising a series of books named Supernatural by a man named Carver Edlund. There were several other links following that, including fan sites, information about conventions, and even artwork. After procuring one of your fake credit cards, you bought the entire series of books, loaded them on your tablet, and dove in.

Days came and went, and aside from sharing meals with Sam and using the bathroom, your nose was pressed against the screen of the tablet. At first, you assumed these were fictional stories, but the further you read, the more you recognized. You had known some details about the Winchester’s past, but seeing their entire lives mapped out in black and white? It was jarring.

Once the published books ended when Dean went to Hell, you were able to locate unpublished works from the author after a bit of Googling. Those stories ended about a year before you met the brothers, but you had read enough. Their lives were some of the toughest you’d ever read about, and it amazed you how they were still such a close family after all the heartbreak and betrayal they had faced. It also shocked you how they were so willing to let you into their family when you first met them.

Stopping momentarily at the couch in the library for something, you marched down the hallway and into your shared room with Sam, making him look up when the door opened.

“Hey baby,” Sam smiled, but when you didn’t stop walking toward him, he raised a brow. “What are you-”

Holding the soft threadbare blanket in front of you, you pounced, wrapping your arms around Sam and tackling him onto the bed. Your legs immediately wrapped around his waist and you nuzzled your face into where you assumed his chest was. He wiggled slightly and huffed, and you only squeezed tighter.

“Not that I don’t appreciate your cuddles,” Sam’s voice was muffled by the blanket, “but are you okay?”

“I am so sorry, baby, about everything you’ve went through in your life,” you murmured. “I… I read the Supernatural books.”

Sam stiffened at your confession and you felt him take a deep breath. When he didn’t speak right away, you moved your hand in front of you to make sure he was still breathing, satisfied at the thumping of his heart and the movement of his chest under your palm.

“Do you want to talk about it?” Sam asked, managing to wiggle his hands free and wrap them around your waist.

“Can… can I just hold you for a few minutes? Has anyone ever just held you? I mean, besides Dean in one of the many instances you’ve died in his arms,” you narrowed your eyes at the lump of blanket where you assumed Sam’s eyes were, “which by the way, is far too many.”

Sam laughed and pulled you closer to him, shifting so he could tuck your body against his chest, making it feel like he was protecting you from the outside world. You always felt safe in Sam’s arms, and this time was no different, but you playfully growled at him when he settled.

“Hey, I’m supposed to be cuddling you, Sam,” you snarked wiggling your butt and trying to break his iron hold on you. The hunter was strong, though, and you could barely move an inch.

“Do you mind if I take off the blanket? As much as I love feeling you wiggle against me,” Sam playfully squeezed and rutted against you, “I love looking into your Y/E/C eyes while I hold you even more.”

Your heart fluttered and your cheeks heated up at Sam’s words, and you relaxed your hold on him. He leaned back for a moment and pulled the blanket off his head, and you smiled at his mussed hair and squinted eyes. “Hi baby.”

“There she is,” Sam murmured, wrapping a strong arm around your waist and pulling you up the bed so your heads were resting on your respective pillows. He pressed a kiss to your nose and tucked a strand of hair behind your ear.

His eyes never left your own, and you melted into his touch. Sam had a way of looking into your eyes that made you feel weak in the knees and want to do anything for him. Those starburst hazel eyes saw straight through to your soul, and you could only see the love he has for you reflected back.

With a bashful smile, you buried your nose into his chest wiggled closer to him, feeling the warmth from his body and arms around you seep deep into your bones. Nothing could compare to how you felt in Sam’s arms, and you immediately relaxed.

Sam’s voice broke the silence a few minutes later. “So where should I start?”

“Did your dad really give you a forty-five when you were afraid as a kid?”

“Yeah,” Sam chuckled, “but you should have seen the machete he got me when I turned five.”

1. Pens or pencils?

Exclusively mechanical pencils. I had a conversation with my heathen of a tutor today who insists that pens are the way to go. How do you live with yourself and your scribbles, Erik? Erasers are a necessity. 

2. Have you ever drawn your OC’s?

I have! Bennie, Amalie, the Nephilim, and various Dragon Age OC’s can be found in my art tag and on my sideblog, @wishing-on-pixie-dust-angel . I’ve done and Lilith too, but nothing that I’ve posted.

3. Does your writing ever make you cry?

You’d think it would considering how I treat my precious children, but I can honestly say the only times I’ve cried is over perpetually blank documents, so that’s not really writing.

4. If your muse was a person, what would they look like?

My muse is a shapeshifter. Yesterday, he was Nathaniel from Awakenings. Currently, she has taken the form of my canon Shepard and I am ignoring her.

5. Which of your pieces would you choose to be remembered for?

Ideally? My original WIP, tentatively titled Matchmaker. Realistically, people seem to recognize my username from either All is Fair or I’d Do Anything.

6. How much have you written or worked on your WIP today?

None. Today has been exclusivley class and editing.

7. Have you ever based a piece (or part of a piece) off of a dream?

Daydreams, sure.

8. Do you prefer silence, a little noise, or a lot of noise when you’re writing?

Noise, tbh. I blast my music when I need to focus.

9. Do you have any routines before you sit down to write?

“I wasn’t seeing things,” she suddenly said, not turning towards me, “but i guess it doesn’t matter. Once you drop me off you can forget everything I’ve ever said, just like you want too. But can we please just... pretend like our time together doesn’t have a countdown?”

I slowed the car down to a stop on the highway, “what do you mean?”

She turned to me, jaw set, eyes a light. A tight coil formed in my belly when her eyes met mine, “I’m not afraid of the future, of the thought that in a few days i won’t ever see your face outside of my memories again. I’m not afraid of loving you while you’re just a ghost at the edge of my vision. Fuck, Colt, I’m not afraid because more than anything i want good memories, i want-“

She stopped suddenly, her breathing ragged, mine matching. She grabbed the back of my head and dragged me towards her, i gave little resistance as her lips met mine in a bruising tempest, her fingers tangling in my hair. Her lips moved against mine like waves crashing against wave and i reciprocated with everything i had in me. It was a wild, reckless abandon that tugged at us, screaming of wild flowers and torrential downpours, lightning and rapidly rising tides, hurricane winds ripping through trees and homemade blackberry pie. Her lips tasted like hope and optimism, like sunshine and saltwater as the tears that streamed down my face collided with her flaming, morning dew skin. It was everything I’d ever imagined but so, so much more that everything I’d imagined before was a parody of the moment i was now fully living.

But what if she did do something crazy and it turned out this wasn’t a dream? Because, yeah, having hot, dreamy sex with one of her favorite music gods would probably be the best decision of her life, so long as she woke up and never ever had to look him in the eye again.

She glanced at him sidelong. “If I told you I was totally interested in banging you on the library’s welcome desk, what would you say?”

There was a clatter and a sharp bark of sound as someone dropped an electric guitar, but it wasn’t enough to cover up Aidan’s spluttering and wild laughter. “Buy me dinner first, Sparky. You’re hot but I’m not that easy.”

And Dream Aidan totally would have whisked her clothes off in one swift movement, so this was obviously reality.

Disappointing, embarrassing reality.
