When Dinosaurs Ruled The Earth
When Dinosaurs Ruled The Earth by Mishafied Rating: Mature Word count: 68k
Dean and Sam are Paleontologists; Castiel is a writer. So none of them are quite sure why Gabriel, Castiel's brother, is inviting them out to get a sneak peek of his newest 'nature theme park'. But their fascination with the creatures that haven't walked the earth in 65 million years quickly turns to terror when a betrayal sends the whole island into turmoil, and when the fences come down, all bets are off.
One of my favorite flavors of fic are those written based on movies. I’ve even reviewed a few for this blog so sharing one of my top fics based on a movie I’ve loved since I was a kid was a lot of fun this week.
That said, I’m thrilled to share When Dinosaurs Ruled The Earth with the blog. Based on the classic movie Jurassic Park, this fic delivers in ways even the movie didn’t. Aside from being endgame Destiel, it also incorporates bigger baddies only seen in sequels and a perfectly replaced cast of Supernatural characters.
Fair warning, if you’ve seen the movie, you know the “minor character death” tag isn’t a joke, a lot of people get eaten by dinosaurs in this fic and there are some pretty graphic descriptions of that happening so… mind your tags. If you don’t mind reading about a few people getting eaten and you like dinosaurs and DeanCas (including Dean carrying Cas bridal style through the jungle), then this is a fic you shouldn’t miss!

50-100K Destiel Fic Recs
Here are some novel length fics for your reading enjoyment :D
The Shape Of Things To Come by spiderglass (61k)
this is a really, really well done post 15x19 fix it fic involving a djinn! I don't want to spoil anything but I absolutely love it :D
tell me about the dream by playedwright (88k)
a post s5 fix it that I didn't know I needed until I read it, but I inhaled in about an hour. there's a whole series (which is still going, I think?) that is equally amazing and just. you have to read it
ascend by quiettewandering (53k)
also a 15x19 fix it that is written amazingly and has all the Wayward Sisters in! the plot is fantastic and of course any fic that gives us the happy ending we deserved is perfect <3
IPAMIS OL OLPRIT by emmbrancsxx0 (56k)
a fic where John has to come back during s14 and he isn't exactly happy with established Dean/Cas... it's just really nicely done, and addresses Dean's daddy issues amazingly.
A Crash Course in Computer Safety by followthattardis (85k)
I've recced this before and I'll probably continue to rec it until the day I die xD it's a spy AU with the fake relationship trope (one of my favourites of all time) and it is just one of the most fast-paced and somehow also adorable fics I have ever read.
C-S-T-L by komodobits (90k)
I don't read a lot of sci-fi but this fic... the worldbuilding is just *mwah* and it's really well written.
When Dinosaurs Ruled The Earth by Mishafied (68k)
a Jurassic Park AU... need I say more? but seriously, the sheer level of detail in this fic (the author clearly knows a hell of a lot about dinosaurs and it really does add something) and the way characters are included is just perfect!
Wild by Castielslostwings (67k)
a human AU where Dean and Cas' plane crashes... the hurt/comfort is written so well, and as the tags say, it definitely has purgatory vibes. also demisexual!Cas!!!
Father Knows Best by DarkHeartInTheSky (81k)
I have to admit... I do love John being an asshole fics. and this one, hoo boy. he really, really has something against Cas. it was written amazingly and I couldn't stop thinking about it for ages after I finished it!
Sleepless in Lawrence, Kansas by PrinceMalice (50k)
a Sleepless in Seattle AU! I absolutely adore cheesy fics that are like those typical romcom movies, and this delivered exactly that. I haven't actually seen Sleepless in Seattle, but I loved the plot as well xD
Forget-Me-Not-Blues by noangelinthegarrison (68k)
to be honest, I can often find the misunderstandings trope quite frustrating, but this fic... it is done absolutely perfectly, has that same cheesy romcom vibe, and the plot is just amazing!! I added Can't Fight This Feeling by REO Speedwagon to all my playlists after reading this as well xD
I hope you enjoy them! As always, thank you to all the brilliant writers for sharing these masterpieces with us. And if you ever want me to make a particular rec list or have a fic you think I would like, let me know!

I'm so sic and tired of the same hp tropes. Have you read anything weird, cross? Not like, crack, but just off the beaten path? Please, I'm suffering here.
Hmm, well I haven’t had time to read all that much fanfic period lately but here are some that felt kind of… unique to me? Not exactly ‘weird’, just really good and not a trope I read all the time. Also included a few FBaWtFT fics so if those aren’t your cup of tea, just skip past the first four. Hope you enjoy :)
The Cigarette Case by AgentMalkere
Apparently even Gellert Grindelwald isn’t immune to a niffler’s sticky paws.
(In which Newt was not expecting to find Percival Graves in a stolen cigarette case.)
Menagerie by prosodiical
Newt comes to New York with only one purpose in mind: find out what happened to the real Percival Graves.
They’ve tried it the hard way; Theseus has been pressing MACUSA for weeks, but they won’t do anything against the word of Graves himself. Newt’s approach is a last-resort, but he’ll do anything to save the man he loves, and so - he opens his case.
Dearly Beloved by prosodiical
or: Five times Percival Graves said he was married, and one time Tina believed him.
When Director Graves starts elaborating on his supposed husband, the entire department is even more certain he doesn’t exist - an author and a dragon tamer, who’s somehow captured a creature that can kill a hundred wizards at a time? And what sort of name is Newt, anyway?
Tina’s one of them - at least, until Newt Scamander, magizoologist, shows up in New York and lets a Niffler loose. And when he realises Graves has been replaced by an imposter, things only get more complicated from there.
The Graves Identity by Mishafied
He doesn’t remember who he is or how he ended up injured in the middle of the Alaskan wilderness; all he knows is his name is Percival, and he owes his life to the shy, redheaded zoologist who saved him. But unfortunately, just because he doesn’t remember his past doesn’t mean it can’t come back to haunt him.
This is the story of how Percival got his happily ever after, and then had to fight to keep it.
Hogwarts, to welcome you home by gedsparrowhawk (FaceChanger)
“You understand, Professor,” Harry began, after a moment, “that I don’t have my N.E.W.T.s. I don’t even have my O.W.L.s. Between everything I never had a chance the first time around, and then afterwards there didn’t seem to be much point. Hermione argued for it, of course, but I was so tired of Britain. So technically, I am completely unqualified for the position.”
“Quite a way to begin an interview, Mr. Potter,” McGonagall said dryly.
Or, three years after the war, Harry Potter becomes Hogwarts’ newest Defense Against the Dark Arts professor.
The Sum of Their Parts by holdmybeer
For Teddy Lupin, Harry Potter would become a Dark Lord. For Teddy Lupin, Harry Potter would take down the Ministry or die trying. He should have known that Hermione and Ron wouldn’t let him do it alone.
Charlotte the Great and Powerful by Evandar
Her whole life has been about gaining power through struggle and sacrifice and manipulation of the only thing she has going for her (Charlotte’s a terrible person beneath the pretty face and she knows it).
Charlotte wants to be more than the girl from the cupboard and she’s not above using others to gain power.
Gelosaþ in Écnesse by Batsutousai
Caught in the backlash of Voldemort’s Killing Curse, Harry is thrown through time to a world so very different from his own.
The Love of a Good Wizard by SweetSorcery
History of Magic has something to teach after all, and two resourceful students decide that the key to having any future at all lies in the past, and in Tom Riddle’s heart. Assuming he has one.
Influence of Souls by Nia_River
He stared at his journal, a creation into which he had poured his memories and dreams, his heart and … soul. Now, to send it to where it needed to be.
Hell To Raise by Tozette
All Harry knew that day was that his Aunt Petunia had begun to scream. When he came from his cupboard to see what was wrong, he found her sitting pale and distraught on the spotless kitchen tiles. She was gibbering as that evening’s three-kilogram chicken dinner did a rather acrobatic tap-dancing lap of the room, squawked loudly, and then fled through the window and out into the back yard.
—————-
In which Harry Potter animates the dead. Dumbledore disapproves. Other forces… not so much.
Don’t Fuck With Florists (They’ll Fuck You Up) by MayMarlow
Unsatisfied with his post-war life, Harry decides to get to the root of all of his problems when that root was still working at Borgin and Burkes shop in the late 40s. He’s the Master of Death, damn it, he can do what he wants for once in his life.
Tom Riddle isn’t particularly happy about working at a small, dingy shop for magical artifacts, no matter how interesting those artifacts are. He’s even less happy when an insufferable stranger sets up the most obnoxious flower shop right across the street.
What follows would be a romantic comedy, if it weren’t for politics.
the girl who lived (again) by dirgewithoutmusic
Peeves, though he was nasty about everything else–ickle firsties and orphan girls–got it immediately. For all six years of Harry’s Hogwarts tenure, he dropped water balloons on the heads of anyone who misgendered her.
Professor Binns never quite figured it out, but he didn’t know any student’s name. Nearly Headless Nick gallantly and somewhat awkwardly called her lady and tried to hold open doors for her, despite the fact that he couldn’t open them.
Snape called Harry “Mr. Potter” for all seven years that he was in Harry’s life. Around year three, Ron stopped counting the detentions he got for his increasingly sarcastic responses to this.
Rise Above by Straight_Outta_Hobbiton
For once, Harry has taken advantage of his enormous wealth and used it to talk to a solicitor. He finds out a few things— namely, the fact that his participation in the Triwizard Tournament has rendered him an emancipated minor and the last Lord of the Potters. Being the Lord of the Potters means a lot of things, but most importantly, it means Harry can get the hell outta dodge, and his friends can come along, too.
Thus begins the new life of the Golden Trio. They’re in America, they’re in California, they’re in Berkeley. Let the good times roll.
Harry Potter and the Really Round-About Way of Finding a Horcrux by floweringjudas (manipulant)
One should know better than to involve oneself in Weasley Family Skirmishes, even as a messenger. It always ends badly. …Or really well, depending on your perspective.
A Lightning’s Tale by Riddle_Master_101
Harry Potter is abruptly thrown into a different world upon receiving his letter from Hogwarts. Danger stalks him at every turn, light and dark are locked in a constant, eternal battle, and weaving it all together is this substance called magic…

Destiel
It’s my birthday tomorrow, and to celebrate, I’ve compiled a list of my favourite fics! I’ve read a lot of Destiel fics over the past year, but these are the ones that have stuck with me the most. I’ve not put as much detail in as I usually do because otherwise we would be here forever, but I am begging you to read these fics. They’re all amazing.
Kiss You When It’s Dangerous by zoemathemata (@zoemathemata) on AO3. (57,593 words).
It’s adorable. The plot is fabulous. It’s my all time favourite fic. Please, I am begging you, just read it.
Stand By Me by whelvenwings (@whelvenwings) on AO3. (31,252 words).
The first Destiel fic I ever read, and it’s managed to stay with me this whole time.
Angel’s Wild by LimonadeGaby and riseoftefallenone on AO3. (389,271 words).
The pining is unbearable but it’s all worth it in the end. The ultimate slow burn.
The Tea is Decaf by mnwood (@tomhardysteeth) on AO3. (3,673 words).
Cas is adorable. Eileen is adorable. Everyone is adorable.
a turn of the earth by microcomets on AO3. (95,274 words).
Of course I’ll rec the ultimate John Winchester bashing fic. The plot is so amazing and it is written excellently.
the inexhaustible silence of houses by Askance on AO3. (31,820 words).
This was beautifully written, made me cry, and the ending haunts me to this day.
Forget-Me-Not Blues by noangelsinthegarrison (@aaziraphales) on AO3. (68,689 words).
Jesus Christ, I have not read another fic where these two are such blatant idiots. That being said... I love it. Everything about it is amazing.
the cost of a thing by quiettewandering (@wanderingcas) on AO3. (74,198 words).
So cute! All the angst! My all time favourite trope and absolutely the best take on it!
In All Your Borrowed Finery by vanishingact (@vanishingactblog) on AO3. (67,950 words).
Okay this is adorable and you can’t convince me otherwise. Every time I read a fic with Gabriel in, I miss him just a bit more.
Down Like Water by museaway (@museaway) on AO3. (14,512 words).
I reread this occasionally just to feel something. I literally had to check if I misread the tags like 3 times and I cry every. single. time.
Partnered by K_K_TiBal (@thebloggerbloggerfun) on AO3. (28,112 words).
This is so fucking cute. The artwork is gorgeous. And, now I ship Jody and Donna. All round win.
Black Swans by omphalos and Wolfling on AO3. (66,455 words).
Okay so maybe this is more Sabriel than Destiel, but it was written amazingly and the plot was phenomenal!
this is a good thing, dean (prayer is a sign of faith) by cascountsdeansfreckles on AO3. (529 words).
The one time Cas can’t hear his prayers... I had to include a 15x18 fic in here somewhere, and this one set me off.
Purgatory, director’s cut by runsinthefamily on AO3. (23,722 words).
This was beautiful. It felt hypnotic, almost like poetry, and I absolutely cried at the end.
The House on the Ocean Road by coffeeandcas (@coffeeandcas) on AO3. (111,351 words).
This was gorgeous! Dean and Cas as parents was adorable, and Jimmy was such a fucking icon I don’t even know where to start. Also, not the weirdest past Cas ship I’ve ever seen (but it’s up there).
Broadway Musical by Griftings on AO3. (12,453 words).
The King and Queen of the crack fics. I adore the ‘did you fuck the Michael sword’ vibes and the formatting just makes everything so much funnier.
How Many Slams In An Old Screen Door [podfic] by Tenoko1 (@tenoko1) on AO3. (1hr 50mins).
Before we were shoved back into lockdown, I used to listen to podfics on the way to/from school, and this has to be my all time favourite so far. The asexual representation was fantastic, the plot was hilarious, and (as always) it was read beautifully.
When Charlie Met Cas by riseofthefallenone on AO3. (24,666 words).
This has to be thee funniest fic ever written. I don’t make the rules.
Boneless Wings by PallasPerilous (@pallasperilous) on AO3. (4,333 words).
The art is gorgeous (I’d literally just finished watching Pan’s Labyrinth which was terrifying) and it was such a brilliant parody of all the other wing fics out there (not that I don’t love them too!)
Grace by july_19th_club (@july-19th-club) on AO3. (5,164 words).
This was gorgeous and now I really want to see it filmed! It is so much better than the ending we got. I would say the author should work for them, but... frankly, they deserve better.
It Started With a Fanfic Competition by Tenoko1 (@tenoko1) on AO3. (124,487 words).
This was written beautifully. It was so wholesome, not afraid to call the characters out on their usual bullshit, and has genuinely more character development than the entire 15 year long show.
Serendipity by whelvenwings (@whelvenwings) on AO3. (23,891 words).
I absolutely adored every character in this (and thoroughly enjoyed guessing who was going to show up next!) and the plot was fabulous!
The Mute!Cas ‘verse by Princess_Aleera on AO3. (148,656 words).
Oh man. I wasn’t sure at first, but this is now maybe my favourite universe out there. The fluff was unbelievably fluffy, the angst was quality pain, and that’s without mentioning the fact the end had me ugly sobbing. On Christmas Eve.
When Dinosaurs Ruled The Earth by Mishafied on AO3. (68,926 words).
Oh my lord, what about this isn’t amazing? The casting was fabulous, the amount of research was obvious and really paid off, and I mean... Jurassic Park AU! It made me desperate to rewatch the films, too.
The Passion of the Christ (and his angelic ex-boyfriend) by Bzzee (@clarafordahwin) on AO3. (4,972 words).
I am going straight to Hell, and it is because of this fic right here. That being said, this is top quality crack and I’ve sent it to everyone I know just for the trip (two of them had never watched SPN. One asked me if Jesus was actually in it).
You Can Keep Holding On by NorthernSparrow on AO3. (352,388 words).
I won’t spoil it, but one of the best plot twists of all time! The exploration of Dean & Cas’ relationship, the detail put into the lore, the foreshadowing... amazing.
Apres by imogenbynight (@imogenbynight) on AO3. (24,045 words).
This was so adorable - Cas and Dean deserved a holiday in France!
I hope you enjoyed them! I’ve really been struck - especially over quarantine - with appreciation for all the writers out there who are giving us this professional quality content for free. I genuinely don’t know what I’d do without you, which is why I’ve done my best to hunt you down and tag you so you can take my love! There are a hundred other fics that I could have included on here as well, or ones that I’ve read since making this list. Thank you all so much for giving us these wonderful stories!
