I woke alone, I remember nothing – the beast was gone – I must have been knocked out – the beast? I remember no beast, what horrible creature was that? Then listen to their horror and their attempts to explain what they had seen. Hell-beast, devil-spawn, the awe-full face of evil. What if someone had seen him change, what if they knew that he was the hell-beast? Even if they didn’t, could he stand there before them and know how badly he had managed the battle? They had come so close to disaster. To death. Harry would be so disappointed in him. No glory, no honour, no salvation, no cure, no nobility, no deliverance. Only his faults, his failings.
