Publisher Aurora Punks and developer Pixadome have announced turn-based horror adventure game It’s Dark Inside. It will launch in Early Access for PC via Steam in 2023.
Here is an overview of the game, via its Steam page:
About
It’s Dark Inside is a turn-and-tile-based, horror adventure where you play as a Mother setting out to save her child by killing a horrific God from the inside. Carefully plan out your every move in this game, for every action will be met with wrath from the creatures that lurk inside.
A Horrifying, Yet Captivating Environment
The body of a god may be made up of organic, living tissue just like our own—but what happens inside of it is far from usual.
Your quest will take you on a journey through the God’s different organs, allowing you to explore unique biomes on your journey towards freedom.
Who Can You Trust?
You are not the first to enter the body of this God. As you progress through the insides you will meet some who are sympathetic to your quest and some who will see your mission as a threat to their very existence.
Face the hidden danger of other people, and form unlikely bonds with characters that will evolve throughout your journey.
Tactical, Turn-Based Combat
It’s Dark Inside features a rotating directional weapon system. Choosing which weapon you’ll use on a given turn—and which direction it’s facing—will determine which tiles your strikes affect.
Every step and action you take will end your turn and allow the creatures birthed from within, Godspawn—to take their actions.
Carefully plan out your moves, as every step could make you another corpse inside the God.

1993 Space Machine
by Aurora Punks
Genre: Shooter
Pitch: A previously unreleased space shooter, developed in 1993 for Amiga PCs and updated in 2020.
My expectations: I've heard of this one! I don't know if it's well regarded, and I didn't even know it was a retro space shooter until a moment ago, but I am aware of this game's existence! That's the first time this has happened since I started this project.
Review:
Tumblr media
Space Commanders, a blatant Space Invaders clone for DOS, might have been the first video game I ever played. Shoot bad guys. Don’t get shot. I’m sure I didn’t play with any strategy for finesse, but even my baby brain could follow the chain of laser-collision-explosion. I have always liked the shoot-them-up genre, but as games expanded and diversified, simple arcade fare lost its mainstream foothold. What brought in massive profits at a quarter per play made less sense as an $80 dollar Super Nintendo cartridge. Space shooters became a niche interest for hardcore fans, who demanded faster, denser, more brutal challenges that mere humans like me found unplayable and unappealing.
Tumblr media
I don’t expect genre enthusiasts to agree when I say 1993 Space Machine is about as good as it gets. It’s slow. It’s forgiving. The most dangerous force on the screen at any given time is your own ship. I played through the whole thing (excluding the ridiculous secret boss, which does feel modern) in one sitting, and I can see myself doing it again just to see what it’s like with a different weapons loadout. It’s generic and dated, and that’s exactly how I like it.
+ An approachable, straight-forward, by-the-numbers space shooter. + Novice difficulty offered enough action and tricky traps to keep me on my toes while still letting me feel powerful. Harder difficulties are there for those who need them, but I'm quite happy with my infinite lives, thank you. + Amiga as heck, with modern touches. + Defeated enemies drop crystals, which can be spent on new ships and weapons, to better blow up enemies and get more crystals. It's an addictive and well-balanced loop that encourages risky moves. I want to play again just to experiment with the equipment I didn't see the first time. Oh, and the game supports up to four players at once, all fighting over the same crystals, which seems like a fun way to ruin friendships.
– Some backgrounds are a bit too busy, making it difficult to see tiny, incoming bullets. – Playing with a controller allows movement at any angle, but the speed is fixed—understandable, but not ideal when tiny movements are the difference between life and death. Keyboard players are locked to eight directions. Good luck. – "Trial Version" is permanently displayed in the corner of the screen. The developers are aware of this and say it's a bug. It's really tiny, and it doesn't affect the game in any way, but it's weird, and it bothered me. – The secret final boss is absurd.

I don't know why exactly but that last post got me curious: Saw blogs, what music do you listen to? One of my favorite things about the franchise is the soundtrack so it feels appropiate to ask

I spent half of my stream designing my dream jacket if I ever committed to trying to be punk! Specifically for my new OC, Aurora Green, an Invisible Woman. No plans to use her but gosh she makes me happy

love the bands that you know two songs by and are content with those songs until you stumble upon a third song et cetera et cetera; you don't go looking for more because the two you've heard are the best thing you've ever heard and you will learn a third if the fates allow it

The Books We Read In 2023
2023 was a fruitful year for book reading. Here’s the list of books (in no particular order) we had a chance to read and review this year. A HARDCORE HEARTDavid Gamage (Earth Island Books) “A Hardcore Heart: Adventures In A DIY Scene” is an exceptional book that offers a brilliant, descriptive, and entertaining glimpse into the UKHC scene of the 1990s. David Gamage’s knowledge and personal…
