Oh boy, last night’s Oscars were something of a teachable moment. Host, Chris Rock, made a disparaging remark about Jada Pickett Smith’s shaved hair style (due to alopecia): “Looking forward to G.I. Jane 2”. Jada rolled her eyes, but during a commercial break her husband Will Smith appears to have assaulted Chris Rock; Will Smith was certainly, visibly upset. Denzel Washington and Tyler Perry counselled Smith — and here is our teachable moment today — as Washington told Smith: “At your highest moment be careful, because that’s when the Devil comes for you”. Will Smith then went on to win Best Actor for King Richard, a biopic about Richard Williams, father of Venus and Serena Williams, and someone who “was a fierce defender of his family”, as Smith stated in his acceptance speech.
