Too many AU ideas to ask, Rebelcaptain Surfer AU

Ok so the very first thing that I associate with surfing is always Surf's Up (2007) and since it is very, very late and I was deeply, deeply obsessed with that movie as a small child we're just gonna go a little bit unhinged and run with that as inspiration.

Are they penguins? Are they people? You decide.

Jyn learned to surf when she was very young from Saw coughbigzcough. She was a prodigy, but gave up surfing and vanished from the island where she grew up after his supposed drowning during a surf competition. She hasn't been back even once - until she turns up without explanation right before the memorial competition, ten years later

Cassian is a lifeguard, and one of the best surfers on the island besides. When Jyn returns she's immediately into him, but she keeps her distance and so does he. She knows she needs to work hard to get back her confidence on a board if she wants the slightest chance of getting into the competition, and he has his own shit to deal with.

They keep their distance, that is, until Cassian arrives to the remote beach he usually has to himself at dawn to find Jyn already there. She hasn't been surfing consistently since she was a teenager, and the water is rough. She's struggling, which makes her angry, which only makes her struggle more. After a particularly nasty spill Cassian ends up having to pull her out of the water and she wants to be even angrier at that but, well... fuck, he's hot. And ok, he did kinda save her life, maybe. And maybe he did have this beach first. She can put up with him. Just for a while.

They have fun together, those next couple of weeks, in and out of the water. They get each other, and neither denies the chemistry between them. But the competition is fast approaching, and they both have their own motives for competing that are far from simple, and those motives might not be entirely compatible...

Okay, in terms of recs, I'm going to star with what I've written and I think my series It's you and me that starts with Hiding in Plain Sight would work. Pining and it starts pre-relationship. You might like one of my earliest fics which is a theater au called Not a Rom Com, Jyn POV.

For your ❤️, I want to admit that I have been out of the Rebelcaptain game for a while, so I am very thankful for the chance to catch up on your recent fics!!! The Michelin/Spy AU wasn't something I'd read before iirc, but boy do I love the concept of Spy!Jyn inadvertently crashing Restaurant Review!Cassian's dinner, what a way to meet!

Jyn took a cautious bite of the lamb before allowing herself a moment to enjoy the flavor. He wasn’t what she’d expected but he’d known the pass phrase. Her contacts weren’t usually so hospitable but they were meeting in a tourist heavy area. The lamb was delicious and everything seemed safe for now, so she had a sip of wine. Every few moments his brow would wrinkle as he considered her as if wanting to ask something but he didn’t. Instead he talked about the food, the sort of light conversation that fit in this restaurant. It clearly wasn’t secure enough for anything more in depth.

It's SO FUN that Cassian accidentally gives her the correct passphrase... and the way you wrote the different POVs was very skillful! Like, Jyn here noting that Cassian keeps talking about the food and interpreting that to mean that the location isn't secure instead of, oops this guy actually is just a food expert... Excellent!!!

I also love the fact that you made Jyn the spy!!! I'm catching up on the other fics for this now. :D

The theme I'm getting is that I like to start a lot in media res, or throw people into the story in the middle with the best hook I can think of. I'm pretty proud of myself that there's nothing too run-on here (because that can be my downfall sometimes).

It was after midnight, he had almost been asleep, but Xiaobao had insisted on pestering A-Fei to go with him tomorrow, and that was the result. There were two naked men in his bed, who had originally done their job very well, as naked men ought to under the circumstances, but instead of snuggling up to their HuaHua and dozing off with him, they were now sitting up, wide awake, and growing louder and louder as they argued.

Dealing with snow is the worst especially when you're not at home. What's your favorite rebelcaptain Hoth trope or fic or art? All the cozy winter vibes to make up for the snow.

Also on Monday, I forgot how to start my car after digging it out of the snow and ended up not getting to work because it took AAA 4 hours plus to arrive. Then they arrived, I sat in my car to test it and started it and went oh god, I pressed the wrong pedal. New car plus first snow of the year somehow made me stupid. Snow is weird, I hope you can get home and cozy.

I just got home and did not, despite everything, freeze solid on the walk from the bus stop! (I was uh. Not dressed to be outside at 10pm in January in Canada). Rather annoyed at the experience but now at least I get to go to bed lol.

Hoth Tropes: I am a simple creature. Huddling for warmth makes me absolutely insane. That's probably my very favourite, in all of its many many variations, but I also really like fics/art where Jyn wears Cassian's jacket!

this is a general ranking but tbh sometimes specific tropes depend on the ship too. for example, I adore royalty AU in general but less for Rebelcaptain because I feel it doesn't suit them as much. I'd still read it, but I'd rank it lower for them specifically. also I'm picky but I can almost always be convinced for the right person and the right execution of the trope. 9 times out of 10, what you do with the trope matters a lot more than the trope itself. there are only a handful of hard nos I refuse to read (love triangle, unrequited love that doesn't ever turn requited, and unhappy ending that doesn't involve death).

It’s only been a few months and he’s found himself a new home that’s felt more comforting than anything he’s known for a very long time. “Do you not believe in it?” “Don’t get him started,” Quynh pleads. “If anything, our Yusuf believes in destiny a little too much.” “It brings us to the people we’re meant to be with,” Yusuf insists, and Nicky is glad for his fervent passion as he defends his belief, given that it melts away some of the despair he’s been carrying.
