for @lilstinky, who requested Data visiting his mother, this is set after Nemesis, and I think it’s comics or books canon that Data’s memories / personality was given to B4?? anyway, that’s the canon this is set in…

Dr. Juliana Tainor lived in a small house on a hill. Data beamed down at the far end of the long drive and took in the scenery as he walked. A field of grass similar to wheat covered the hill and reminded him of Van Gogh’s famous painting.

It had been a long time since he had last visited. Before, she had been living in an apartment in one of the larger cities on Atrea IV, near to the university where she worked. When Data had visited her there, they’d taken long walks around the campus and he’d met a number of her colleagues. Juliana had told him later how delighted and amused she’d been to introduce him as her son.

It had… pleased him as well. He’d never imagined what it might be like to have a mother, but now that he had one, he found it to be a positive experience. It was an experience he knew could not last forever, but he hoped to take advantage of what time he had.

Unfortunately, he had some news for Juliana that might affect their relationship negatively.

“Maybe you shouldn’t tell her,” Geordi had joked before Data left for Atrea IV. “I mean, you definitely should tell her, but…”

Data knew what he meant.

Juliana looked older than she had the last time he’d visited, but Data didn’t say anything, just let her kiss his cheek.

“I’m so glad you could find some time to visit your old mother,” Juliana said with a wink, leading Data through the house toward the kitchen.

“I have been busy and recent circumstances –“

“Yes, yes, I know, and you’ll have to tell me all about it in a moment. Now, where did I put that…. aha!” She picked up a sweater from where it hung on the back of a chair and put it on. “Now come along, dear, I’ve made some tea.”

Data offered her his arm and she took it. They walked out into the back garden where a tea set waited on a small table by a couple of wooden chairs. Juliana took the one with a cushion on it. “Didn’t think you’d need one,” she said as they sat.

Once she had poured their tea, Juliana took a sip and sighed with satisfaction. Then she set her cup down and faced Data. “Now. I expect you kept a back-up copy, or several, in case of accident, so the real question I have is where did you get the body?”

Data blinked. But of course he should have known she would hear at least rumors of what had happened to him. And she was smart and always very direct. (Sometimes he imagined he’d gotten his own directness from her.)

“We found one of my brothers. He was in pieces and had been left there for us to find and put together. After I… died, Geordi found a copy I had made of my programming and he uploaded it into my brother’s body.” Data paused. He found he didn’t want to see Juliana’s expression and so looked out across the garden. “He died so that I could live again.”

There was a moment of silence where Juliana composed herself, perhaps, Data still was reluctant to face her. “None of your brothers… functioned, save Lore. None of them lived. I can’t imagine where someone could have found one of them or how much work they must have put into getting him running again. Still, I am… sorry that he’s gone.”

“I thought I should be the one to tell you,” said Data.

Juliana patted his hand, and he turned to look at her. She had a sad smile on her face. “Thank you.”

They looked at the garden and drank their tea, and later that evening they played some duets. Juliana played the viola as perfectly as ever. Data never told her why. And so she lived out the rest of her days in peace.

I might stop with the dragon lore and just continue doing fun character things on a headworld blog. 

like im gonna keep playing the game cause I like having dragon effigies for characters, and also there’s a few pairings where someone else owns one of the characters- I’m still jazzed about those and still wanna do content with em with other people. but everything else that’s more a solo chee deal, i might as well just, from here on out, just continue with them as purely headworld characters.

so like dragon lore isn’t going away, but it’s mostly gonna exist for a few characters I’m using to play with other people, and it’ll basically stop moving (in dragon universe) for all the other characters. 

headworld mode, very little story stuff will change because I’d already done so much worldbuilding for it. just gotta remove dragons haha. The only house that really affects is Atreas (but its easily fixed) and Talonclasp (will need a lot more retooling because their whole thing was hoarding transformation magic)

Okay let me tell you what I got so far:

Trying to translate the Deah Note story into my headworld is super difficult, because the basic universe rules don't match and the concept of "supernatural cause of death" is nonsensical in Atrea. I have to concentrate on other aspects and try to find something that works for me and I want the whole "worldwide known detective catches worldwide known murderer" to be the background. SO.

L (a raven, as ravens are one of the smartest, most civilised, human-like creatures in Atrea) is an internationally known detective going after a mysterious mass murderer Kira that also got international attention due to the weirdness of his crimes (not supernatural but so strange and always connected to riddles and puzzles and it seems like the murders are supernatural but it all has a logical explanation). Light could be a deer of some kind, as you absolutely wouldn't expect a gentle and pretty critter like a deer to be a criminal.

Wammy's is still not an orphanage but also not a school for highly gifted kids but instead a school for kids with behavioural problems. The weirdos go there, so to say. The whole thing is set in a pre-industrial, maybe early industrial, era and I don't think governmental funding of exceptionally intelligent people is not a thing yet.

I have this image in mind of young Matt and Mello eagerly waiting in the early misty cold mornings before school for the news guy to arrive in their town to see who Kiras next victims were and to solve the puzzle around the latest murders before anybody else -- god can someone draw me that
