Shin Megami Tensei III: Nocturne (2003)
Personality wise, the version of Dante that appears in "Shin Megami Tensei III: Nocturne" seems to be a mix of his Devil May Cry and Devil May Cry 2 incarnations, with the same somber, reserved personality he possessed in the second game while also appearing to have a sense of humor and excitement similar to the first game. This is best expressed in his wry amusement over the irony of a demon hunter being hired by a demon, calling it "the joke of the century."
Even so, Dante goes through with it, intending to see how the ultimate war against God in this chaotic world would eventually play out.
His battles with the Demi-fiend seem to bring out a large amount of enthusiasm from Dante not seen in Devil May Cry 2. In their first fight, Dante takes the time to ask the Demi-fiend if he's "having fun," following it up with an excited "me too." This bears more of a resemblance to his personality in Devil May Cry and even later games, expressing excitement at the conflicts he has.

Featuring Dante From The Devil May Cry Series is a phrase taken from a seal placed on the cover of the European release of the video game Shin Megami Tensei: Lucifer's Call to promote the addition of Dante, the main protagonist from the Devil May Cry series into the game. The addition of the seal on the European release, which wasn't present on the releases of the game elsewhere, became a target of mock by the gaming community due to Dante's rather trivial part in the game's plot.
Origin Shin Megami Tensei: Nocturne marks the third installment in the Megami Tensei series. The original game was only released in Japan in February 2003, but was followed by a director's cut edition a year later in 2004 in January for Japan and October for North-America. The director's cut edition of the game featured an additional ending and included Devil May Cry's Dante as a guest character after Atlus (the creators of Shin Megami Tensei: Nocturne) was allowed to use Dante in the game by Capcom (the creators of the Devil May Cry series). It would however take until July 2005 before the game was released in Europe, where it was published by British video game publisher Ghostlight. The European version of the game was renamed to Shin Megami Tensei: Lucifer's Call and used a different cover which also promoted the inclusion of Dante.

Ahead of Shin Megami Tensei III Nocturne HD Remaster’s release on PlayStation 4 and Switch next month, publisher Sega has provided the internet with a beautifully high-resolution version of the “Featuring Dante from the Devil May Cry series” sticker from the PlayStation 2 original’s box art in North America. The graphic has inexplicably been used in memes ever since, most recently in conjunction with other absurd internet humor like Big Chungus.
“The dev team initially thought it was a crazy idea to pursue a crossover across two different publishers,” Nocturne director Kazuyuki Yamai explained on the PlayStation blog. “However, they were also captivated by the idea of the two characters’ encountering one another and their ensuing battle. So they brought the proposal to Capcom, and the rest is history!”
Like the more popular Persona series spin-offs, Nocturne focuses on befriending and enslaving a bevy of supernatural entities known collectively as Demons. These potential party members are pulled liberally from worldwide mythology and religion; it’s possible in Nocturne, for example, to build a team that includes not only Devil May Cry anti-hero Dante but also the popular West Virginian cryptid Mothman and the Abrahamic archangel Gabriel.
While I would normally be all, “Silence, brand,” about something like this, I’m also a sucker for high-res recreations of artwork that’s hard to find otherwise. Sega is smart to embrace the Dante meme from a marketing perspective (ugh, sorry, just writing that phrase makes me sick to my stomach) but, more importantly, it’s good to have these sorts of historical artifacts readily available for archiving purposes.
