i just recently found your blog, but i'm already digging into the nytf tag. could you tell me more about the weird bio-tanks? sorry if you've already answered this! i'm really fascinated, biotechnology is sick as hell

You're good, I actually haven't talked about them that much! My tumblr has been kinda dead lately as I've been super busy with the end of the year stuff, but let me give you a little bit of information:

I still haven't given them a formal name and what I call them changes all the time, but I'll just continue to call them biotanks in here. While there are many companies and producers of the biotanks, the most prolific is ATHZoS (Athens Zone of Safety), which got their start making them to grow chicken for human consumption. In fact, ATHZoS grows over 80% of the southeast's chicken by the time NYTF takes place. The tanks themselves cannot speed up growth, but instead allow for a stasis to be held while the creature grows. Creatures can also be growth from egg + sperm as well, and several humans, genetically modified and not, have been incubated and birthed from the biotanks instead of by an actual human. You can also stick a full grown human in there to recover (think medically induced coma). They have a suspension gel and can range in size from like, a small bathtub size to like, big enough to grow a genetically engineered meat cow that's 3x the size of a normal cow

I don't know if that's really as cool as I make them but yeah :)

Royal Georgia and the Zones of Safety [NYTF]

Hello and welcome back! I am Their Majesty, Monarch Piers Hall of the Royal State of Georgia, and I am glad to have you back for the next part of our (brief) series overviewing what the "Royal State of Georgia" is all about! In our last part, we briefly overviewed the Atlanta Zone of Safety, but today we zoom out to look at Royal Georgia as a larger whole. Most of the boundaries of Royal Georgia are similar to pre-Fall Georgia, save for the little "tail" on the bottom being taken by Florida, and the upper right-hand corner being a sort of no-man's land passed between Georgia, North Carolina, and South Carolina. Other that that, most of our present-day borders are the same as those in the past! Within the Royal State of Georgia, there are an assortment of Settlements and Zones. Today, we're going to briefly go over the various Zones within Georgia, although we may go over the 15 other Settlements later on.

What is and what makes a Zone?

Zones are the large settlements (not capital) within the State of Georgia. They receive direct military, financial, and political support from the state government, and get their own representative in the State Council. In order to become a Zone, Settlements (capital S) must apply to state-level government, and meet certain qualifications. There are nine qualifications, and at least six must be met at all times for a Zone to become a Zone

Exist within the pre-Fall state borders (REQUIRED)

Have a population of at least 1 million people

Have constructed borders, like the Perimeter of ATLZoS, although this can just be a chain-link fence

Have a GDP of at least 40 billion RGD (Royal Georgia Dollar)

Have a GDP per capita of at least 40,000 RGD

Have a stable local government (any kind)

Have a food production capacity to support at least 80% of the Zone above starvation level without imports

Have access to a city-sustaining, freshwater source within 10 miles of the Zone (rivers or lakes)

Have a healthcare system capable of supporting the population (REQUIRED)

Zones of Royal Georgia

Atlanta

Acceptance Date: September 19th, 2097 (Founding)

Note: Atlanta is the largest and capital Zone. It used to have a City Council (local government) however it was never reelected after the Atlanta City Council bombing, with many Zone-level duties falling to the monarch instead. This is NOT considered a local government, though.

Dr. Charoen Panya [Not Your Typical Fairytale]

Today, they walked right up to the door and knocked. The metallic clang echoed in the dark. After an awful screech from inside, Dr. Panya opened the door, looking Piers up and down with a judgemental glare. Xe wore the same exact thing Piers had always seen xir in: a blue jacket, a white lab coat, and a medical respirator, covering xir face. (Knight of Dawn, Chapter 3)

Dr. Charoen Panya is the loyal (loner) scientist and medical doctor who serves the Georgia Royal Family. To most, Dr. Panya's past is unknown. Xe was born in the Athens Zone of Safety, about 60 miles away from Atlanta, but almost an entirely different world. Xe grew up with only one of xir parents, Dr. Rune Panya, the head of the biological research department in ATHZoS. Dr. Panya graduated with xir doctorate degree in the biological sciences at 20. At 22, Dr. Panya left Athens for the first time, joining the research team of an up-and-coming geneticist who needed a full time assisstant. Although he wasn't much older, xe hoped to learn from him, before returning to Athens. Xe would never return. Instead, after almost 10 horrible years, xe finally escaped with the then-Queen Adele Hall. In gratitude, and also knowing xe could never return home, xe offered xir services as a medical doctor to the Royal Family. Adele accepted. In general, Dr. Panya is an erratic and unsettling person, often leading people to avoid xir. However, when others are hurt, xe can be compassionate and caring, often fixing Piers' injuries and providing care to Adele in her later days. Despite most people finding xir odd, for valid reasons, many in the Palace trust xir. Currently, Dr. Panya is mentoring (informally) Councilor Marlowe Sidney, guiding them in their research. Xe is diagnosed with schizophrenia, and often suffers from visual and auditory hallucinations, along with paranoid delusions.

✈️ AIRPLANE — does your oc like traveling, or do they consider themselves a more homey person?

Considering my Wbw, it seemed relevant!

Piers HATES travelling. They've not willingly left the ATLZoS area in almost three years. Their last trip was to SAVZoS and the beach with Adele, and even then, Piers had to be dragged along. They've visited all the Zones (including ATHZoS) in their younger years, pre-infection, but they haven't visited them since (except SAVZoS).

Grady on the other hand has a little bit of wonder lust and would love to travel across the world, if she could. She regularly visits the various Royal Guard facilities in the other Zones with Gavin and the other Commanders. Later in Piers' rule, Grady does a lot of the travelling for them.

Hello Athens, and happy Worldbuilding Wednesday! I know you already answered the Prompt, but there's just one small question I wanted to ask you, and since it is worldbuilding related I decided I ought to do it today.

How many people, more or less, live in the kingdom of Georgia? Also, do you have any brought estimates for the other states you've mentioned, like North Carolina or Florida?

GENERALLY, I assume the Georgian population to be somewhere around 20 million. About 5.5 million reside in ATLZoS (I changed the number). There’s only about 800k in ATHZoS while there’s almost 4 million people in MACZoS and just over 3 million in SAVZoS (and it’s currently seeing the most growth). ALBZoS and VALZoS have about 2 million a pop and ROMZoS hovers just above 1 million. This totals to about 16 million within the Zones, with the other 4ish million being residents of the 12 settlements (pre-Zones). Brunswick (hometown of our beloved Mateo) has around 500k people and Gainesville (which we’ll see more of later) has just over 1 million.

Georgia is pretty… average when it comes to population density in this future world? Florida had a significantly larger population initially but it’s only close to ~35 million in NYTF times. North Carolina saw a slightly faster growth rate than Georgia, and sits at about 24 million scattered across 12 Zones and 18 settlements (much smaller in physical size and pop density compared to Georgia’s)
