Sean took a quiet breath in, attempting to calm himself. It had been a hell of a day and he was just glad to be home. “Y’know those days when the punches just keep coming...?” Being a surgeon was never easy, but some days were just worse than others, and that day had been a perfect example. He walked over to the corner where he kept his alcohol, opening up his favourite bottle of whiskey. “You want a drink...?” Sean asked, looking over his shoulder at her with a small smile as he was relieved to finally be off the clock for the first weekend in a while.

As soon as Luca saw the little honey pot with its cute little pattern in a downtown ceramics shop, he knew just who needed it. Wrapping it carefully in pastel pink and orange tissue paper and placing it in a sage green satin box, Luca dropped off the gift at the door of the sweet girl he’d met just a few days earlier and given a ride home. A simple note tucked into the box read:

Good morning Celia,

I hope this gift makes your day a little sweeter and that our paths will cross again soon.

“I feel the same way about you.” The words left her lips without hesitation. Being with Celia felt so natural, it was like they were meant to be together. “Look”, she smiled softly, bringing two of her fingers to Celia’s chest, right around the area of her heart. Then, when Celia’s eyes were on her hand, she drew an invisible line between Celia and herself, ending it at her own chest. “There’s a chord between our hearts. No one can ever break it.”

As Celia faced Mallory, while each were in their own beds, she smiled to her and found the courage to ask her something. "Will we be friends forever, Malry? Because I want be friends forever. Best friends, because you're my best friend."

“Yes, of course”, she answered without hesitation, but then thought about it a little longer. There was always a chance that they would get separated at some point. What if one of them got adopted? The chance was small, kids above 12 almost never got adopted, but she knew that she would be kicked from the orphanage before Celia. What could she do to ensure their bond would last forever? “I think I know something we can do.”

“Yes!”, Mallory jumped up at the sound of that idea, smiling from ear to ear as she rushed over to her closet and opened it up, pulling out all of her costumes. Some of them were old, some were newer but all of them were colorful. “I have an idea! I will dress up as Alice, and you will be Dorothy!”
