I got the Iron Rig DLC and have been playing it for a few hours.

Very early impression: This is best played on a new game rather than one where you've accomplished everything. The new location is easily reached and several items and upgrades make the game much faster.

Also, you have to travel to all the locations as part of the DLC so you might as well do it alongside the main quest.

The best QoL upgrade I've gotten is you can get a trawl net and crab box which gather dredge instead of fish. And they're acquired early in the DLC. So they can give you a very passive means of collecting materials.

If you start a new game, I recommend completing everything in the Marrows at least until you can dredge materials, then head for the iron rig.
