the thing about arthur and their father is that once they learned of his death he kind of made peace with him while tommy - as always - went the the opposite direction with 'okay. we HAVE to kick that door wide open Now'
#unsatisfied and frustrated ...#there's how fandom constructs the way arthur ostensibly reacts to 'authority' with the idea of 'wanting to please Dad'#and it's not necessarily what i think it is?#not wrong entirely. but what arthur's more occupied with is getting someone to tell him what to do because he doesn't want to make#decisions for himself#but he also only ever applies that mindset to polly and tommy and linda#2/3 are women ... one of them his wife ...#tommy is a dubious case but also tommy is repeatedly characterized as not being like his father but like his mother#and ultimately i don't think their father was that much of an authoritarian#tyrannical in a way for sure but possibly not a strict upholder of hierarchies#at least he never looked beyond very immediate goals and what advantage he could wheedle out of that
