The Sheepdogs & Larkin Poe@E-Werk, Köln, 23.10.2023

Trotz der üblichen Querelen mit der Deutschen Bahn, die einen fast wieder zur Umkehr ermutigt haben, schaffte ich es dann doch mit einer Stunde Verspätung zu den kanadischen Sheepdogs, ohne sehr viel verpasst zu haben. Glücklicherweise, denn diese Band lohnt sich wirklich. Auch stylingtechnisch fühlt man sich zurück in den frühen 70ern. Genialer Southern Rock, den das Publikum sichtlich genoss. Das haben die beiden authentischen Mädels aus Tennessee (ganz ursprünglich, sonst Georgia) natürlich gleich weitergetrieben. Hätte mir zwar ein geileres Coverstück als "Crocodile Rock" inmitten der Akustikeinlage gewünscht, aber auch mit den sonstigen, eigenen Kompositionen war genug Spaßfaktor abgedeckt. Kein Wunder, dass die Tour fast voll ausverkauft ist und man kaum Karten bekommt. Hätte mir nur ein wenig mehr Spielzeit für The Sheepdogs gewünscht.

POWERWOLF's latest studio album, "Wake Up The Wicked", came out in July via Napalm Records. The highly anticipated follow-up to the extremely successful "Call Of The Wild" (2021) was once again produced by Joost Van Den Broek at Sandlane Recording Facilities and marks a new benchmark and undisputed career highlight for the band. The new album is hard, surprising and full of variety. While staying true to their established, loved sound, POWERWOLF go one step further and showcase a different facet of their deft musical and technical skills. This is evident, for example, on the outstanding single "1589", which is based on a true story from the 16th century.

20 years after their formation in 2004, POWERWOLF are expanding their repertoire with the highest quality and adding many future live hits to their extraordinary discography. "Wake Up The Wicked" is yet another statement cementing the status of the band as a leading force in the world of heavy metal.

The first single from "Wake Up The Wicked", "1589" tells the story of Peter Stump, who lived near Cologne, Germany in the 16th century and is known today as the Werewolf Of Bedburg. After being defamed as a werewolf, the farmer confessed to several murders under torture and was cruelly executed on October 31, 1589. This morbid story has fascinated people all over the world ever since and has been picked up by National Geographic, among others.

For the video for "1589", POWERWOLF traveled to England to stage Stump's fate in the dark woods in a cinematic way. With carefully selected locations, countless actors and crew members, and impressive special effects, it marks the most elaborate music video production in the band's history to date.

[Video] Jonathan Jeremiah mit Video zu "Early Warning Sign"

Jonathan Jeremiah legt das Video zum Song "Early Warning Sign" nach! Die charmante Klavierballade bricht dabei mit reduzierter Begleitung aus dem ansonsten eher groß aufgezogenen Album "Horsepower For The Streets" aus, das im vergangenen Herbst über [PIAS] Recordings Germany erschien. Besonders der leicht spürspare Hall wirkt bei diesem intimen Track besonders stimmig - recorded wurde das fünfte Album des Briten nämlich gemeinsam mit einem 20-köpfigen Streichorchester in einer Amsterdamer Kirche.   Für das Video begleitet die Kamera den Songwriter jedoch bei einer Session ganz allein am Piano, während sich die majestätischen Streicher und nostalgischen Harmonien immer mehr unter die Tasten und die warme Bariton-Stimme mischen. Auch wenn die Welt um ihn herum in Flammen lodert und Jonathan mit dem Rücken zur Wand zur Wand steht, verschwendet der Songwriter keine Zeit mehr, fest entschlossen für seine Liebe zu kämpfen. "I met Jeff Buckley one time, on July 8, 1995 in Cologne, Germany, where he had a show in the Club section of the E-Werk. We had an 45 minutes interview in the afternoon before the show, and I was talking with someone, who really impressed me: a quiet, shy human being, on the search for....?

On the other side I have rarely seen such an explosive rock show, like Jeff's gig some hours later. When he laid on the floor, hitting in the feedbacking strings of his guitar, I thought I'd met someone else for interview. It took me some time to understand that Jeff Buckley was kinda universe as an artist. Here are some pictures, I shot after our interview."-Lothar Trampert via FB
