“Where is Daimyo by the way?” Valencia looked up from her arm wrestling match with Circe.

“He’s staying with Draco at my place,” the Hero replied, rubbing the back of their neck. “I gave them orders to be in bed by ten, and to not burn my house down…”

“So with that we’re all set, we’re going to hit the taverns, maybe run around Surewould a bit shooting arrows, possibly rob the Rose if we feel like it, because Jaania is annoying me.”

“Ale and arrows? Sounds like an…interesting combination.”

“Oh Circe, where’s your sense of fun? Besides none of us will get *seriously* hurt, we brought Twilly after all!”

“Why is Twilly on Artix’s shoulders?”

“Because I like to feel tall!”

I'm always more interested in talking about things I enjoy than things I don't, so I'm going to work on that.

Ship It

Kord/Lestrad from DragonFable, I'm completely serious and given the time I WILL write about them.

What made you ship it?

The finale of the Dragesvard Rift got me BAD, there was so much going on, but I think it started when Lestrad got hurt saving Kord earlier on, and was cemented when he jumped off the Tytan's back with him.

2. What are your favorite things about the ship?

The GROWTH.

Look, these two are from vastly different backgrounds, both generationally (Kord being much younger) and socially (a dragonslayer and a dragonlord!) but they not only found common ground in trying to help the people of Dragesvard, they challenged each other's views on their ways of life, culminating in a scene where Lestrad symbolically breaks Kord of his assumptions about dragons and dragonlords (the jump scene, breaking the spear) and Kord goes over everything he's learned and drops the spear, metaphorically letting go of his old beliefs.

And I like that Kord talks back to him a lot. Kord's a bit annoying, but I really like that he won't just let Lestrad boss him around.

3. Is there an unpopular opinion you have on your ship?

This ship is so rare and so fraught with troubled circumstance that "I ship it" is an unpopular opinion.

The Hero’s soulally shrugged one shoulder, placing his shield down and leaning on it. “I sometimes come to the material world to see how things are going, so I can update the Hero when they thaw from the ice.”

“You seem so sure that will happen, I’ve heard Jaania is a very powerful mage.”

“And so she is, but I know them. Which brings me back to my first statement; you miss them.”

“I…yeah, I do,” Tomix’s shoulders sagged. “After…after Aspar it felt like I didn’t have many friends left, from an already small bunch to be honest, but to find out that they were gone too… Izaac and Riadne are great, and I am genuinely happy for them both, but the Hero and I… I don’t know how to describe our bond… heh, fire forged feels apt.”

“I know exactly what you mean, they feel the same. One of the benefits of being linked to them. And Tomix, if you need another friend while you’re waiting for them, I can be here.”

“Thanks Aegis. Maybe I’ll go to the surface, check in on the ice crystal.”

“Uh I wouldn’t recommend that, there’s a certain dragon guarding it who might go for your ankles.”

my partner (@asylumdream) said, “so, you’re writing a diamant-sertation“ when i said i was “writing another diamant dissertation“ since talking about engage localisation funnies triggered this conversation.

@successeurdiamant i’m gonna move the convo over here since this might be a long post and i’d rather not clog a post with character dissertations, lmao (any other ppl in the diamant tumblr zone do feel free to add onto this post too, though! the more the merrier!)

“fight by your side“ and “i will lay my life down for you“ both have two distinct feelings and i love them both because of both of the feelings they convey and how they both relate to diamant’s character.

to my personal taste, i really love “i will lay my life down for you“ mainly because it plays on his sense of devotion and how he’s hellbent on giving all of himself to his country, to ending the way, to alear... because he would, and he does. i wouldn’t know about how his character behaves specifically in the jp version (since i don’t speak japanese, and from what it sounds like is that he’s still relatively the same, if not tonally different because of line changes), but we know that he is a perfectionist and holds a lot of guilt based on if you let him or alcryst kill morion.

what kind of brother is he to let his brother fill in for his weakness? what kind of son kills his father? alcryst outright says that it’s a burden that is too heavy for him to bear (so he shall do it instead), but imagine how heavy the other burden is, to be helpless in helping the ones you hold most dear? he’s still his brother’s brother, after all. alcryst also states in ch15 that he’s worried for diamant’s mental state because he keep bottling his emotions.

diamant... there’s some (a lot of) brodian stubbornness in there. it’s the sheer devotion, come hell or high water, in sickness and in heath, and all of that- it’s his need to see everything through. what kind of king is he is he does not? he wants peace, and he’ll devote himself to that peace. he wants the one he loves to be safe, so he’ll devote himself to that, too. (this kind of devotion is actually what’s all over alear and marth’s dynamic. there is so much subtextual devotion from one to the other, it hurts. marth was, in fact, the one watching over alear the entire time, after all. but i digress; this is a diamant/dialear post, not a marth/alear post)

the thing is, though, it’s not exactly his life to give, now is it? his life, first and foremost, must prioritise his people above all. he has to be the the pillar of strength and the perfect, flawless diamond that everyone perceives him as. there’s his relationship with ivy and how brodia has hurt elusia over, and over, and over again and how elusians are taught to be scared of brodian armour. he’s the one only one that can make it right. that’s his job as king, after all. his life for his people. always.

in fact, perhaps giving his life to one person, the person he loves most, is a reclamation of his life. he cannot give his life to one person, for his kingdom mandates him to give himself wholly to the greater good. but perhaps, in another life, he could do so without fear of flaw or failure.

as an aside: now’s the perfect time to plug in and propose “shinunoga e-wa“ for diamant and alear’s relationship (i’d talked about it a little here but nothing in depth) because doesn’t “i want you to be my end. if it meant saying goodbye to you, i’d rather die“. fujii kaze has also said that the lyrics are on the old fashioned side, and historically, when “i love you“ gets translated from other languages into japanese, some equivalent similar to “i could die for you“ or “the moon is beautiful because of you“ is used because of the cultural context behind it. (i cannot believe this has come back to grace me with its presence.)

now... after some mulling it over, “i’ll fight by your side“ also carries a similar sort of intimacy... but different. it doesn’t have the same gravity that “i would lay my life on the line for you“ has, but it’s sweeter. softer. understanding that his life is not his to give and thus, he has no right to give it to someone whom of which it does not belong to (ironically, however, he gives his life to the state, but that’s out of duty and not out of emotional intimacy).

but this doesn’t make it bad. no, far from it, actually.

you see... “i’ll fight by your side“ very strongly reminds me of this confession:

“you are the wind at my back, and the sword at my side. together, my love, we shall build a peaceful world, just you and me.“

sound familiar? it’s chrom’s s-support cg dialogue, and i think it conveys the same exact thing that diamant tries to convey in his english s support. chrom has always viewed robin as his equal, and in terns of feh canon, his “other half“ (no, i’m not lying about that. chrobin is practically canon confirmed, especially with its inclusion of chrom and robin as the emblem of bonds). he loves robin- platonically, romantically, or even a secret third thing. friends are not lesser than romantic partners, after all.

but diamant... diamant views alear as close, just as close. maybe not as an equal like chrom and robin (who is he to consider the divine one an equal? he’s just the king of brodia, and alear is the monarch dragon of lythos. they’re god, effectively. to be equal to a god... or to drag a god down to his standing... it doesn’t sit well with him), but definitely with the level of understanding that goes beyond a commander and a subordinate, or a king and a god. they’re friends. they love each other, romantically, platonically, or even a secret third thing.

I'm gonna play stray again so I can have more educated thoughts on it, but the game, aside from its love of humanity being shown in the companions- how humanity thrives even in the darkest times- is answering the question of what is in a legacy.

okay, I know I know, Hamilton is so out of fashion. it has many issues re American history and how Black ppl are treated and I know all of its critiques but let me have this, please.

but like... who tells the stories of humans when they die off, who sows the seeds of a future without the humans? humans had made a mark on history, good and bad. the obvious choice here is "who lives, who dies, who tells your story", but the line that is seldom referred to that I'm thinking of is "what is a legacy? it's planting seeds in a garden you never get to see."

humans might not have been able to see how humanity thrived on. b12 comments that they are the last human consciousness, which then implies that the companions evolved their code after the humans had died.

that is a response to who sees the flowers after the gardener has died. the companions, arguably more human than the humans, that will tend to the plants, just as their forebears had before them.

some miscellaneous osafune + chougi modern au headcanons

i can’t get these seven out of my head. they’re just,,, good. i love them. (i’m not quite alive to write longform fics, but i hope this’ll get me thinking of it for when i’m not dying to classes TT)

koryuu’s hair is stupidly fluffy. you cannot blow dry it, or it will stick up and will become an untamable beast. shokudaikiri has already tried. daihannya has also already tried. fukushima has tried. no one has succeeded.

though, if it simply air-dries, there is no problem. no one knows why.

speaking of, daihannya has perfect hair. no knows, not snaggles, smooth and silky to the touch... split ends? what are those? he takes great pride in it and his low maintenance hair routine.

shokudaikiri, on the other hand, will hog the bathroom in order to look presentable. he may be banished to another bathroom to take his pretty prep time. no one knows if he gets bedhead except for fuku, but he’s been sworn to secrecy.

fuku’s hair used to be really frizzy before hannya, who was going into cosmetology, told him his hair is actually wavy, not straight like the rest of his brothers. now his hair looks fine, though hannya makes a show of messing with his hair.

kenshin and azuki have a tendency to get cowlicks if they sleep wrong on their pillows. it’s really cute (though kenshin protests because “it’s not grown up enough”).

fuku wishes for kenshin to stay as a kid for a while and not rush to grow up too fast. all of them do, but fuku most of all. seeing him approach things with an earnestness that kids have, that many adults do not... it’s endearing and a little bittersweet.

speaking of chougi: he’s something of a distant cousin, but koryuu sniffed him out and he’s now in all of their group chats. chougi doesn’t hate it, since he has a place of belonging now, even if he is a bit of a pompous brat sometimes.

god forbid there’s drama happening in the main family unit over a group call, though. chougi will be there, with a bag of crunchy snacks and a slurpy drink, on mute, but enjoying the chaos unfold. there is no way he’s gonna miss out on this. no way.

koryuu studies abroad during college. at first, fuku was a little hesitant, since it can be dangerous in a foreign country, but koryuu can handle himself.

azuki’s working to get his teaching certifications to help teach preschoolers. they’re cute, and he’s good with kids. it works in his favour.

kenshin hasn’t figured out what he wants to do yet. he’s only in grade school right now. no one puts pressure on him to pick.

some more osafune modern au headcanons that i neglected to mention before // the osafune sitcom

i’d forgotten i had some other hcs that i wanted to add to that massive post from before, so here, have a few more headcanons. they aren’t as numerous as the first post, but they’re fun thoughts that’ve been kicking around in my brain.

these guys basically live in my brain as a sitcom at any given moment, so these aren’t all headcanons, but more funny thoughts i’ve thought of that would work with this large of a group.

don’t ask anyone about the hair spiders that are left behind in the drain. koryuu is the most forgetful, and also sheds the most, and hannya does try to pick them out, but it’s mostly left to the other four.

there is a jar labled “caused a horrible telephone game” sitting on one of the bookshelf that is filled with dollars and some coins. every so often, someone (usually fuku or mitsu) says something that someone else (usually koryuu or hannya) takes out of context, which gets passed around the group chat.

this usually ends in a massive group call to right the chaos, with the culprit of the misspoken words adding a few dollars to the “caused a horrible telephone game” jar. the feeling of the jar is more along the lines of those posts of dogs with cardboard “shaming” them for some naughty act they’ve done. it’s all in good fun, and if it’s actively distressing, the telephone game won’t actually be played.

when kenshin contributed to the jar, he was so darn proud of himself.

when the jar is too full, the brothers go out for dinner. it’s a fun treat afterwards.

koryuu is a fan of vocaloid. specfically, umetora. he knows all the songs by heart, and he isn’t afraid to show off his merch every so often.

don’t challenge him to a trivia fight. you will lose.

fuku likes sappy love songs. if you sneak around his garden enough, you’ll hear him humming them as he prunes his roses.

he also enjoys 80′s era rock.

My #1 post of 2022

i feel like spy x family, though technically a shounen, was made for or the ppl who grew up watching like early 2000s-2010s anime. think about it.

it hits the generation growing up with the idea of a “perfect family”. it’s the nostalgia of being a child with a stable home, perhaps unattainable in the circumstances we're in now, for a variety of reasons, but primarily "a lack of peace” in the world, internally, or externally. we have to wring this peace with our own two hands. it’s a hard, thankless, and tiring job, to have to do this day after day for a sense of “peace”.

it's through this show that allows the viewer to achieve that peace, if only temporarily though genuinely, just as how the flowers "that we didn't know could be so beautiful" which bloom in the spring are impermanent, and just how the forger’s family dynamic is just for safety. 

it is "until our missions, our killings, do we part."

HELLO I'M SO EXCITED TO TELL YOU the one in my pfp is not an OC though, that's just Karkat Vantas as a trickster. I did in fact draw him! But technically he's not mine, just the design is.

I've actually drawn him like three times but this is my favorite iteration.

OKAY OC TIME

I'll start with my homestuck OCs. These aren't all of them, just most of them. I still have some highbloods to draw.

Pommeh Granit and Pemlow Matahr (originally Pomelo Tomato) are a couple of minor characters in an old fic of mine that's been bouncing around forever. Pommeh doesn't get much if any screentime but in another world he'd be some highblood's sugarbaby, sweet to their face and an absolute terror to anyone else. Pemlow is much nicer, and the tattoos on his shoulder are meant to be symbolic of the system he grew up in (as he's not an Alternian troll, he's from a colony world.)

All the yellowbloods (Hanyak Tayana, Kimchi Spanch, Javila Kanyao and Praspa Tradam) are also background characters from various unfinished fics that I sometimes give their own lives anyway. Hanyak and Praspa are roommates, and very toxic for each other. Kimchi is the only thing keeping them from killing each other. Javila is just there for the ride, and to provide narcotics.

Maeleo is actually my first fantroll! He went through a bunch of redesigns though. I think someone once said he looks like a pokemon trainer? I think I might lean into that lol. Champion Fiduspawn player.

Tassit, Sazaly, and Lasusa are also some older characters who've gone through some redesigns (Lasusa the least, she's always been scrungly). The three of them are from the same fic as Pommeh and Pemlow, as maintenance crew (Tassit) and medical crew (Sazaly and Lasusa.) Hareer used to be a Beforus troll but then I made them an Alternian bounty hunter.

Yadmir is a smuggler who runs both cargo and people off locked down planets like Alternia. He only shows up in a couple scenes in one of my more recent (unfinished) fics but I think he's kind of charming, in a slimy way.

Claris is just horrible and I'm pretty sure she eats people. Like not even grubs, straight up people.

I also have Lilnas Rodey and Candra Somvar, both of which I need to actually draw myself at some point. There's more than these but... yeah, still no refs.

DragonFable OCs!

I still need to draw most of them. But here's the ones I've already drawn.

Dave, a fan-child for Notha and Remthalas, cloned mostly from Rem's DNA but with a little Notha in there for variety. He's a menace and I love him. @oddeyesight and @valorousowl (as @justanothalyehr) are partially responsible.

Duroc, Elemental Spirit of Vivacity. He's a hedonist and a bacon-aligned spirit, and I mostly made him because I thought it'd be funny.

Somnarine, another abyssal elf. He's an old friend of Rem's who was away when the other abyssal elves got taken out by Kathool. Lots of headcanons involved in both his design and backstory. His skirt isn't actually that short, he ties it with his belt when he's on land. Right now he's traveling among other water elf settlements to try and gather as much of his people's history together as he can. Very much a lover not a fighter, and needs rescuing *often.* (Kind of a simplified sketch, will do better eventually.)

I've only recently gotten back into DF though so again, more OCs, not that many refs.

Puella Magi OCs!

I have. A lot of witches. Which I will not list, because I mostly use them for RP, and they die pretty quickly lol.

But here are some of my magical girls!

Chiyako Watanabe, my first Puella Magi OC. Rich girl, very polite and sweet on the first few meetings, but actually really intense and even a little violent. Has a pretty fragile ego, and a tendency to not ask for help until it's too late.

Tsukiko Usada, 18 or 19 years old, living on her own, and actually really shy and nervous around everyone. Has an interest in idol culture and fashion, but doesn't think she'll get anywhere with it, mostly because she's trans and still needs to get over her own internalized issues. (Her outfit was originally just blue but then I did the trans flag palette as a joke and thought it looked much cuter.)

This one's much rougher due to the situation around the image; a few people from the RP + myself wanted to make a manga but it didn't really get off the ground. Olivia here was one of the main cast; she's really cold and bitter outwardly but actually kind of a crybaby. Also half-Belgian, hence the name.

I have one more, but she still doesn't have any art; will hopefully get around to that sometime.

Non-fandom OCs!

Surprisingly, this Madoka-looking girl is for an original project that I've been pinging around in my head for a few months. Miko Sugihara, an unlucky magical girl who works for the Yakuza due to them holding her mascot critter hostage.

Knoell here is... something. He was abducted by Krampus and transformed into what he is now. Really I made him for smut.

Nikolai here is basically my self-insert! I do not own any of this outfit in real life, alas.
