Shiki's gender actually hasn't been officially revealed (Japanese has no gender specific pronouns) It could very well be that Takaya is planning to pull another Akito with Shiki (especially since the next-gen seem to be carbon copies of their parents) With that being said which gender do you personally think Shigure would do better as a a dad and why?

OH really? I could have sworn I saw that Shiki was confirmed to be male but I guess I was wrong! Thank you for informing me otherwise! 

If Takaya is indeed puling another Akito with Shiki, I do hope that it is simply under the circumstances that Shiki is an androgynous child for their appearance  and/or preference alone and not at the hand of their upbringing. Because not only would that be a major bummer all things considered, it also wouldn’t make sense IMO. To think that Shigure and Akito would raise their child the way Akito was? Not something I want to think about. Not after what Akito went through at the abusive hands of her mother and especially not after the end of the series where it very much appeared that Akito began to embrace her true gender with the help of Shigure’s encouragement. 

BUT ANYWAY 

As far as which gender Shigure would be a better suited dad for, I don’t think it would make all that much difference outside the fact he may be a little bit more over protective as a father to a daughter. Also Shigure having a daughter kind of has my heart specifically for @asweetlittledove‘s headcanon in that post I referenced prior that if Shigure had a daughter he’d be super overprotective of her once she started dating, but would be open to her dating someone that reminded him of Tohru ; v; It’s a sweet concept!

What kind of dad do you think Shigure is in Another?

Good question! 

I’ve got two different directions of thought on this. The reason for that being that Shigure is not a great person. He is selfish, and manipulative, and possessive. I’ve already got iffy thoughts on Akigure and his life with Akito as it is. It’s nearly an anomaly for me in terms of understanding their relationship. So it only makes me wonder how he would treat his child. We don’t know how Shigure grows up to be with Akito, freed from the curse and her bond to anyone but him. I hope to think that he changes and grows to become a healthier person for himself, Akito, and Shiki. 

Direction one: 

An unhealthy Shigure could be a cold and distant father. Perhaps he loves and adores Akito so much that he truly couldn’t love anyone else, even his own child. It’s a sad reality, but one I honestly consider with Shigure because we just don’t know. There’s a possibility out there that Shigure would pull an apposite Akira–never falter the love he has for his wife for another. This is kind of an interesting topic my currently drunk mind is spinning: Shigure ensuring that Akito would always be loved and that she would never end up like her mother, “replaced” by her child. It’s a sick, dark, and sinister scenario. But remember this is all in a FBA where Shigure has not grown much in terms of his obsessive and possessive love for Akito. (Or rather, grown to be far more problematic). 

Direction two: 

He’s an absolutely adoring and doting father to his child. In this scenario, Shigure has become a healthier person, his qualities that were previously toxic and problematic reducing substantially to a more positive influence, state of mind, and state of being. His child came from Akito, a woman he loves relentlessly, so naturally he would love their child tenfold. A lot of my thoughts relate to that of asweetlittledove’s post which I’ve read (and I adore!) where she discusses this exact topic, only more specifically geared toward if Shigure and Akito had a daughter. (so s/o to @asweetlittledove). I absolutely agree in thinking that Shigure would adore his child, albeit a little over-protectively so, but nothing compared to his toxic behavior in the past. 

Shigure would be there for his child and help them learn, but never once would be belittle them. When it came to deep conversations with his child, whether they are asking for advice or appearing that they need it, he would treat them just as he did Tohru, Yuki, and Kyo. (I.E. the laundry folding analogy, and talking to Kyo about interacting with others.) Even if his child were very young, as soon as they were old enough to understand, Shigure would speak to his child like an intellectual equal, expressing words of wisdom the way he has for many of the younger zodiac members throughout the original series. 

(Excuse me for using ‘they,’ as we know that Shiki is a boy. I’m trying to think as generally as possible.) 

I can only hope that what I say here in this second possibility rings of some kind of true. From what I’ve read of FBA Shiki seems to be a very withdrawn child? There is nothing wrong with Shiki being an introverted character. But I hope that is nothing to do with neglect or a problematic upbringing. 

I’ve seen like .2 seconds of Shiki and I already adore him to pieces and I hope Shigure and Akii didn’t fuck that poor child up!!!!
