okay spill. rotisserie chicken esswulf tag. who is who usually i can TELL
The perfect thing about esswulf is that they both do the biting. Wulf is more aggressive, but Essek has the sharper teeth. In this particular case, I think Essek is the rotisserie chicken, because Wulf is about the brutality, while Essek is more precise. Essek doesn't black out and destroy, he plans and executes.

HTTYD Choose Your Own Adventure - Part 7
Final part of the CYOA story! Thank you to all who participated! I wanted to keep this one short and not drag it out. It was an interesting experiment. I don't think I'll be doing this type of story again, as it was quite easy to feel burnt out from it, especially when the number of votes outnumbered the number of people who actually interacted with the post by leaving a like or reblogging. I know there are a lot of lurkers here on tumblr, but it can become discouraging. Again, thank you to those who liked and reblogged. I will be posting this on ao3 so it won't get lost.
Warnings: lady whump, setting of broken bones
“We gonna do anything about her, uh, broken bones?” Ruffnut asked.
“Yeah, wouldn’t want to jostle those while flying if they’re not set,” Tuffnut put in.
Hiccup nodded, seeing their point. He licked his lips, looking back at Astrid, who seemed to be regaining consciousness. She let out a small groaning noise.
Hiccup placed a gentle hand on her face. “Hey, hey,” he said softly. “You’re gonna be okay.”
“Hiccup?” Her eyes flitted open, took a while to focus on his face. She looked around to see Ruffnut and Tuffnut. “What’s going on? I thought we were--”
“Battle’s over,” Hiccup told her before she could panic about that. “You were hurt. Do you remember?”
Astrid looked down at the blood on herself. She didn’t really seem to be registering what was going on, only that she hurt.
“Oh.”
“It’s okay.” Hiccup wiped some of her wet hair from her eyes. “We won.” He nodded to Ruffnut. “Ruff and I just have to set some bones you broke, okay?”
“Okay.” Astrid didn’t seem too fazed by this, but Hiccup was trying not to be concerned by that. This was Astrid they were talking about. Of course she wasn’t showing much emotion about being hurt.
“Ruff, get her something to bite on,” Hiccup said.
Ruffnut nodded, and scampered away to find a stick. She came back with one, brushing it off a little before offering it to Astrid. Astrid didn’t complain. She just opened her mouth and accepted the stick.
“You want me to hold your hand?” Tuffnut asked.
Astrid glared at him.
“Okay, okay! Was just offering!”
Hiccup and Ruffnut began their work. They had to probe around the injuries first to see where exactly the break was. Hiccup had been taught how to set bones by Fishlegs, as everyone else on the Edge had, but he was nervous. He’d only done it once before, when Snotlout had broken his arm from a fall.
Astrid hissed and whimpered, biting down on the stick.
“I’m sorry, Astrid. I know. Okay, Ruff, hold her arm just like that. Okay, good.” Hiccup glanced at Astrid’s face. Her skin was ashen, and her eyes were closed, head tilted away. “Astrid, we’re gonna do it on the count of three.”
Astrid didn’t respond, just breathing heavily through her nose. Hiccup met Ruffnut’s gaze. It was clear that she was nervous as well.
“One… two… three!”
There was a snapping sound, and Astrid bit down on the stick hard. She didn’t scream, just groaned instead. Hiccup was glad for that, really. He didn’t want to hear Astrid scream in pain from something that was his doing.
Once the bone was set, they quickly wrapped it in bandages and moved on to the next. They’d have to fashion her a sling, but dealing with her leg was the next priority.
They had to pull off her spiked leather skirt and carefully pull down her leggings to get a look at the wound on her leg. Astrid really didn’t seem to care about her partial nudity at the moment, and no one commented on it.
This one would be harder, by the looks of it. The break seemed to be above her knee. The bones there were incredibly tough and might not set as easily.
But, Hiccup and Ruffnut did it. They knew when they felt the bone move into place with a cracking noise. Astrid screamed this time, biting down on the stick so hard it began to splinter. Hiccup was quick to remove it from her mouth once they were done. Ruffnut was working on bandaging her leg.
“You okay?” Hiccup asked Astrid.
“Don’t ask stupid questions, Hiccup!” Astrid gasped out, looking down at Ruffnut’s work. It was hurried and a little messy, so Hiccup leaned down to help.
“Tuffnut, how’s the bleeding?”
“Uh…” Tuffnut pulled the cloth back from the wound, looking at it. Blood was still trickling from the gash.
“Yeah, well just bandage that nice and tight,” Hiccup decided. “Astrid, you…?”
He’d been going to ask her if she was up for flying, (probably another stupid question), but she had her eyes closed, was slipping back into unconscious. Maybe that was for the best.
Feeling shaken, but glad that they’d stabilized Astrid’s injuries, Hiccup wiped sweat from his brow.
“We ready to head back?”
Ruffnut and Tuffnut just nodded. They would all be glad to be going home.

‘You think this isn’t some kind of shock for me too?! Hiccup, I am old, I have seen a lot in my time, but I have never, ever seen anything like this.’ Lips parting momentarily, she shook her head, looking back up to Hiccup. ‘I apologize, I shouldn’t have been so harsh. I do believe you, Hiccup, and I believe you have that girls best interests at heart. You get her back home, okay?’
“I know that, m’ not stupid.” She was just surprised that he was actually following those rules; at home, people didn’t care about all that. “But does it have to be her? I don’t like her, she’s scary, she doesn’t talk, and it hurt really bad when she put that stuff on it…”
“It doesn’t? That’s what I always thought… that’s what people at home told me…” She nodded, squeezing his hand. “I know. Thank you Hiccup, no one has ever helped me like this before…”
“How soon? I don’t wanna wait that long… It would’ve felt better right now if she didn’t put that stuff on it or touch it…”
“I- Really? You don’t have t’ do that anymore… you’re probably upset ‘cause I made you carry me back and I got scared of Toothless…”
She gave a small sigh, but reluctantly picked up the fork and took a bite.
That made her uncomfortable, and she shifted awkwardly in her seat, avoiding Hiccups gaze. “I’m not supposed to tell anyone,” she replied, a small bit of shame shining through in her voice.
Hiccup looked down, knowing Gothi was right, it was unheard of, what was going on with Danny, however this switch was made.
"Thank you, Gothi. I'm sorry, too, I should've brought her here right away. I'll get her home, keep her safe."
Hiccup shook his head. "Stupid? You're far from it, actually... And, no, Gothi gave me instructions for either Astrid or my mom to change your bandaging once a day, whoever you're more comfortable with. Now, I know you're not ready to meet my mom yet, so will you be alright with Astrid?"
Hiccup shook his head again, speaking gently. "No, not with something that severe." His expression fell, hearing no one had ever helped her that way before. She was only seven. How heartless were these hunters, to not administer medical help to children? "I'm sorry to hear that, you should have received more help, long before now, but...I'm glad I can help."
"The sooner you drink that tea," he said, pointing to the steaming mug in front of her, "the faster you'll feel better. The salves and creams she put on your back will help those burns to heal faster, so I know they hurt, but the other applications shouldn't as much, since it'll be doing its job."
"What? Why would I be upset?" Actually, if he wasn't so worried about her health, he'd have enjoyed it. He couldn't wait to walk around, carrying Zephyr on his back through the village. "I readily offered to carry you, and I should've eased you more into meeting Toothless, went a little slower. Your reaction was understandable. Danny, you have no need to apologize."
Oh. He should've realized... She could get in a lot of trouble if she told him, and he didn't want that.
"Hm. Okay, how about this? Is... whatever caused this, something that has been taken care of, where it won't happen to you again, or...or is it a normal occurrence?"
