La sublevación cultural y la escuela de Frankfurt

«La sociedad está viviendo un proceso de cambios profundos y estos no son “anecdóticos” o “improvisados”, pues tienen una base ideológica precisa y determinada para gestarlos desde una plataforma “revolucionaria” fuertemente inspirada por Gramsci»: Palabras del padre Francisco José Astaburuaga.

Y mucha razón tiene. Una cantidad de los cambios que vemos vienen de un libreto escrito hace muchos años por gente como el famoso comunista italiano y por filósofos alemanes de la escuela de Frankfurt, entre otros, muy bien descritos por Cristian Rodrigo Iturralde en su libro «El inicio de la nueva izquierda y de la escuela de Frankfurt». Ahí caben Marcuse, Adorno, Benjamin, Fromm y no hay que olvidarse de Sartre. Ese guion elaborado y refinado a lo largo del siglo XX deriva en lo que se llama el nuevo marxismo o marxismo cultural, o si se quiere, la nueva izquierda.

 Habiendo tomado conciencia de que la antigua dialéctica materialista, clasista, no funcionó, pues los ejemplos nefandos de la Unión Soviética y la China de Mao dejaron de resultar atractivos, se ingeniaron una forma de revivir y redirigir el marxismo añejo.

 Descubrieron que la revolución más eficaz es la del pensamiento y la fueron realizando gradualmente, subvirtiendo todas las esferas de la cultura. Se enquistaron en las universidades estadounidenses y luego en las nuestras. En su estrategia contracultural han utilizado a las minorías sexuales, los temas de racismo, indigenismo, feminismo y otros para recobrar la popularidad perdida.

 Conscientes de que los trabajadores de Occidente fueron mejorando paulatinamente su situación económica y no estaban ya interesados en el marxismo ortodoxo, se ingeniaron el marxismo cultural, creando un descontento hacía las estructuras existentes y la demonización de todo lo que no sea de «izquierda». El descontento y el odio son sus banderas de lucha, que esgrimen hasta el hartazgo.

 Se declara entonces la guerra contra la familia, la religión, la tradición, las jerarquías, etc., con las consecuencias que hoy vemos. Proponen una revolución cultural que a la postre se haga con el poder. Quieren instalar un nuevo orden moral y cultural y erradicar todo lo que nazca del cristianismo o de la filosofía clásica. Es por tanto un ataque directo a la Biblia y su ideario.

 Pretenden erradicar de la sociedad los principios cristianos y librarse de lo que consideran las ataduras judeocristianas. Lo hacen con eslóganes propagandísticos, ninguneando a los rivales y tildándolos de fascistas, retrógrados y otras etiquetas. Se establecen como dueños absolutos de la verdad y ganan fácilmente a la juventud ingenua.

 in embargo, como todo comunista, son solo oportunistas. Se valen de los conflictos y los agudizan para promover su programa. Poco les interesa el bienestar de la gente. Lo que buscan es generar odio, rechazo y a la larga hacerse con el poder. Una vez afincados allí, ejercen una hegemonía total.

 Bien hacemos en mantener los ojos y los oídos abiertos a esta penetración cultural y estar en guardia contra ella, rechazarla, concientizando a nuestros jóvenes de esta estrategia y reafirmando nuestros valores claramente expresados por Jesús en el Evangelio.

Pushing Dramaturgy

A hell of a lot can happen in the time you await the results of a pregnancy test. PUSH is the story  of a woman staring down the barrel of motherhood, torn between her own ambivalence and an  uncontrollable urge to push. 

Award-winning Popelei have burst out of isolation and onto our screens with their darkly comic  theatre production, reimagined for film after its preview at VAULT Festival 2020. Fusing theatre,  movement and dance the company have embraced this new medium, collaborating with  cinematographer Jack Offord. With blistering honesty, exhilarating choreography, and one  extremely knocked-up performer this is an engaging, expressive performance...a show that  captures the blizzard of feelings parents have for their as-yet-unborn children (The Guardian). 

And for the first predictable question: what was the inspiration for your show?

PUSH kind of snuck up on us. Our 2019 show, 100 Years, explored maternal lineage across a century of history and two continents. We were in the rehearsal room, thinking about taking 100 Years further, when we found ourselves asking - what happens if we let go of this epic lens and instead look at a much more condensed moment of motherhood? So with PUSH we’re at the complete other end of the spectrum, exploring just three minutes in time as one woman awaits the results of her pregnancy test.

How far does it fit within your usual work, and do you have a particular dramaturgical approach to creating a production?

 Our last three stage productions have all been one-person shows, so that’s a thread that runs through our work. There is something inherently good about the direct and playful relationship you can have between audience and performer in a one-person show.  We’re  open to different forms and have a very fluid, collaborative practice. We tend to design the process and the dramaturgical approach around the ideas behind each show and the people involved - rather than work to a strict structure.

 PUSH is Popelei’s first film production. Our crew included film and theatre specialists,

which really helped with developing a way of working that honoured the energy and theatricality of the original production.  As well as revisiting digital in the future, we are keen to build on the momentum of our 2020 Women in Lockdown project: a series of 25 original monologues curated from an open call for new work, supported by the Popelei Seed Commission.

 Do you see your work within any particular tradition? Tamsin trained at LeCoq in Paris, and European physical theatre is certainly an influence. Right now, we’re mostly excited to be part of the very current movement of female-led and feminist work in the UK.

What are you hoping that the audience will experience?

 The same invigorating frenzy of feelings that you get from a live show.

 How have you found the challenge of creating a production online? Has it been positive or negative and have there been any surprises?

 Reimagining the stage show of PUSH as a film - that can be accessed digitally at Edfringe - has been hugely positive. It gave us an opportunity to build new collaborations with an insanely clever team of Bristol-based filmmakers, including cinematographer Jack Offord, and really dig into the risks and opportunities of a very different medium. We filmed PUSH in one long and continuous take, in a bid to capture the liveness of Tamsin Hurtado Clarke’s performance, and the energy needed from Tamsin and from every single member of the crew to complete this was a big challenge and a massive adrenaline rush.

 I have always asked about the role of theatre in public debate, but this now seems even more relevant. In the current landscape, what does theatre or performance have to give to the public sphere?

During all this instability and upheaval, hopefully theatre remains one of the more solid spaces in which to connect with each other and, as importantly, ourselves.

PUSH was written in response to the difficulty faced as a woman in her 30s trying to separate  your own life choices from the sense of a biological ticking clock, and the eternal question of  whether to try to become a parent. It was created out of a desire to see the seemingly  mundane moments of a woman’s life portrayed and explored on a grander scale. Here, the  three-minute panic of waiting for the results of a pregnancy test transforms into a full-scale  existential crisis, pulling in physical theatre and dance to express the broad range of complicated  emotions.  

Director Scarlett Plouviez comments, figuring out if, how and when to have a baby has never  been easy. The last year has complicated this even further for many - dating in a time of social  distancing, cancelled fertility appointments, money problems, moving back in with your parents,  the climate crisis...the list goes on. PUSH doesn’t pretend to have an answer to any of this, but  instead holds a mirror up to what it can feel like to experience a sliding-doors moment in your  life, looking down at a pregnancy test and wondering what it is exactly that you want. 

Popelei is an ongoing collaboration between writer-performer Tamsin Hurtado Clarke and  writer-director Scarlett Plouviez, seeking to make performances that are authentic, energetic and hopeful, reflecting the world as they experience it and want it to be. PUSH features an  original soundtrack by a regular Popelei collaborator, the renowned Chilean film and stage  composer Santiago Jara Astaburuaga.

Choyün - Brotes de la Tierra (corto animado Mapuche)

“Choyün – Brotes de la Tierra” muestra la historia de una familia mapuche que lucha por preservar su cultura y formas de vida, amenazadas por la explotación forestal y la industria extractiva. Tres generaciones de mujeres – abuela, madre y nieta – defienden su principal riqueza: la vida en armonía con la naturaleza… Sur de Chile, en la región de la Araucanía, en medio de montañas y bosques milenarios amenazados por la explotación forestal, una familia mapuche lucha por preservar su cultura y sus formas de vida. Tres generaciones de mujeres indígenas, se encontrarán en una cruzada por defender la naturaleza en la grave crisis socioambiental que viven.

Sebastián Pinto y Rosario López, son los responsables de este trabajo, y quienes han realizado un significativo trabajo de estudio y documentación para plasmar en este corto animado la realidad del pueblo mapuche. Un trabajo lleno de sensibilidad que rezuma honradez y verdad.

Sebastián Pinto es comunicador multimedia con experiencia en animación digital y efectos especiales. Se ha especializado en proyectos audiovisuales y teatrales que ponen un énfasis en experimentar con lenguajes interdisciplinarios como son la animación, el cine y el teatro. Destaca su trabajo con la compañía Teatrocinema (Ex la Troppa) y con las productoras Delight Lab y Cábala. Como director, realizó el cortometraje animado “Selk’Nam”, ganador de una mención honrosa en el festival Ojo de Pescado 2014, Valparaíso.

Rosario López es documentalista, dibujante y realizadora audiovisual con 16 años de experiencia en la realización de destacados proyectos audiovisuales para televisión, cine y multiplataformas. Dedicada al desarrollo de producciones latinoamericanas centradas en ciencia, educación, historia social y cultura, su interés está en acercar temas complejos a través de un lenguaje cercano. Ganadora del Premio “Pobre el que no cambia de mirada” de la Fundación para la superación de la pobreza en 2010 por la serie documental “El lugar más bonito del mundo” dirigida por Andrés Wood.

El pasado colonial sigue siendo el conflicto del presente. “Choyün – Brotes de la Tierra”, una imperdible aportación para salvar la naturaleza y respetar la cultura de los pueblos.

Although the transcriptional regulation of gene expression by the clock machinery is well described, the role of the clock in the regulation of post-transcriptional processes, including splicing, remains poorly understood. In the present work, we investigated the putative interplay between the circadian clock and splicing in a cancer context. For this, we applied a computational pipeline to identify oscillating genes and alternatively spliced transcripts in time-course high-throughput data sets from normal cells and tissues, and cancer cell lines. We investigated the temporal phenotype of clock-controlled genes and splicing factors, and evaluated their impact in alternative splice patterns in the Hodgkin Lymphoma cell line HD-MY-Z. Our data points to a connection between clock-controlled genes and splicing factors, which correlates with temporal alternative splicing in several genes in the HD-MY-Z cell line. These include the genes DPYD, SS18, VIPR1 and IRF4, involved in metabolism, cell cycle, apoptosis and proliferation.
