Summary:
The Hidden Ones encounter a mysterious traveller from Azeroth. Recognising an opportunity to forge new alliances and expand their influence, they appoint Basim Ibn Ishaq, a devoted disciple, as their representative.
In a realm where ancient lore and magic are as tangible as the air he breathes, Basim must rely on his wits, skills, and newfound connections to fulfill his mission and unlock secrets that could change the fate of both worlds.
A Warcraft/Assassin's Creed Mirage crossover fic. Set before the events of Dragonflight and Valhalla.

Anduin nodded. “Speaking of reminders, you might want to reel in before the fish escapes with your lure.”
With a small shake of his head, Basim reached for the rod. “So, what is it about fishing that you enjoy so much?”
“It’s something my father and I used to do,” Anduin began, his voice warm with nostalgia. “When I was younger, he’d take me to the forests outside Stormwind. We’d camp, fish, and he’d teach me how to survive out there. The nobles weren’t exactly thrilled when we’d return to the Keep smelling like fish,” he added with a chuckle, shaking his head. “But those trips are some of my best memories. Just the two of us, far away from courtly duties.”
He hesitated, glancing at Basim. “Did you have moments like that with your father?”
Basim’s expression shifted, a shadow falling across his features. “My father wasn’t much of a fisherman,” he said. “He was an architect. He helped build the Great Mosque in Samarra. It was his pride, but he wasn’t paid for his work. Not a single dirham. We fell into poverty. He lost everything…and then, he lost his life.”
“Life can be terribly unfair,” Anduin said.
Basim shrugged. “When my father was gone, I had to find my own way. I became good at thieving in the markets—food, supplies, whatever I needed to get by. I learned to listen, to watch people. How they moved, how they spoke. Life taught me more about the world than I could have learned any other way. And eventually, it led me to the Hidden Ones.”
Anduin studied him for a moment, the depth of Basim’s resilience settling into his own thoughts. “And now you’re one of their most trusted,” he said. “You’ve climbed higher than anyone could have expected, especially from where you started.”
A faint, bitter chuckle escaped Basim’s lips. “Even now, that part of me hasn’t left. The orphaned boy stealing bread, always looking over his shoulder, always waiting for someone to catch him.”
A/N: As Crossing Shadows concludes, I want to take a moment to express my heartfelt gratitude. This story has been a deeply personal project, inspired by Assassin's Creed Mirage and my enduring love for both Assassin's Creed and World of Warcraft. This fanfic is my love letter to these incredible franchises.
Writing this fanfic hasn't been easy. Blending two intricate lores -- Azeroth’s magic and Isu technology -- was not as fun as I imagined it to be, but it was a challenge I embraced. I can only hope I've done justice to the characters -- Basim, especially.
To my friends, both in the Warcraft roleplaying community and beyond: thank you. You have been my sounding board when I doubted myself, my encouragement when I felt lost and insecure about finishing this story.
Thank you for always being there when I needed someone to iron out plot points, dialogue and characterisations with. And to those who have been with me since the beginning, know that I have kept writing because of you. I cherish every comment, every message and I hope you continue to leave lovely comments on your favourite fanfics on Ao3.
Thank you for embarking on this wild adventure with me. Here's to a great year ahead.
